Fantastic community. No longer a safe place for women. In early 2023, I sought refuge at Rose Haven after I was terrorized in my home by one of the plumbers that was hired to work on my building. For close to a year I: -attended a weekly support group -accessed acupuncture, naturopathic and other medical care -received meals and community support I'm grateful for the services provided during this time of need. However, all kinds of men are allowed entrance to Rose Haven. It was awful to stop in for community only to watch other women/my friends in fear. I often avoided whole areas of the center. The below photos show the tour of 9 men led by Rose Haven's Advocacy & Operations Director during service. The second, taken while trapped in the back of their shop. The men on tour were asking to "peek in" while a different masculine appearing individual who had just been inside was violently melting down directly outside. I was terrified. Days later, I was fed quickly, then ushered out of the Christmas party by support staff. The violent individual was allowed re-entry and the behavior of that individual made the center unsafe for all inside. As a result, he party was closed down early. Fantastic community. No longer a safe place for women.

It was all Thursday morning flower lady had dropped a whole trunk load of flowers off. Guest used to get flowers. I go on Thursday for flowers they make us happy smile. There beautiful. Over the months we don’t get any flowers at all.we don't even see them. Financial fair is a rodeo. I live 10 minute walk. When I rounded the corner I was in shock 😲. People camped there over night. I wasn't to far back. I arrived at 530 am to 17 th person. I appreciate all you do for us. Can we please have flowers back. I personally adore flowers. Kat.

Security guy is a straight creep pointing his phone camera directly at people waiting in line.then redirects me into wrong door asking me if Im a volunteer when Im 2nd in line for possible intake and hed seen that probably took a picture of it too. Causing confusion and frustration with others lining up at the wrong door. People who work there look mad and annoyed like they dont want to be there. Coming from womens shelter I would expect mere trauma informed employees including security he gets paid to be on the phone acting like a creep.

I came here twice and won’t be coming back. My son has severe autism and adhd and a lot of the women and volunteers in the children’s playing area kept glaring at my son and i made me so uncomfortable. There were a few very nice volunteers i spoke with that were wondeful. But the younger volunteers in the children’s are sitting down kept giving my son and mean glares. I signed up for resources and was in the first 10 women to sign up and they said a second time they couldn’t help me even though i came early and was in the first ten to sign up. i traveled over an hour by bus to get here before they opened and feels like it was a waste of time now. I won’t be back because how uncomfortable i felt with all the glares my special needs son and I received and the fact i came early and still was denied resources we really needed.

This place is a really nice church. They help women out with a lot of things. As you can see in my pictures are really concerned about this corona. They're taken all cautious. The church also has church also. They take donations.

I love Rose Haven. I began accessing services there after leaving a very abusive relationship. I was able to find myself after accessing a safe space and also mental health services. I had to stop going when my dog Honey passed, as I had so many memories of how loved he was there and how sweet all the ladies were with him. I truly felt like I was in a safe haven there. I was able to heal and laugh and finally connect with other woman who had also been broken. I just am so so thankful for this space. I am now in recovery, I am going to start a healing business and all because I was able to heal. And be surrounded by lovely woman. I am just so thankful for this Non-profit. It changed my life 🥰😘😍🌹🌹🌹🌹

Rose haven is a life saver. They helped me no questions asked before I registered with them. I caught head lice from jeans place and needed lice shampoo cuz I had no money to buy it. They promptly gave me lice shampoo so I could get rid of lice. And they got me a new bag cuz mine was torn, falling apart. It's nice that they have place like this for females. I am on run from male abuser so I can't go to homeless feeds etc... that my abuser might show up at and I know many females can relate to this. One thing I would suggest is a table with long row of plug ins so more people can charge devices. I seen the charger on the floor but one girl swooped in and hogged the whole thing. Some clients are rude or act wild but there's some nice ones too. Rose haven is run very well and I like how they watch and protect the line. I felt safe. Very different from potluck in the park where no one is being monitored, drugs are being sold in line, and you feel like you're gonna be jumped. Suggestion: add bologna sandwich to snack bags. And pass them out more often, some folks can't get ebt at all. But thank you guys for being there on my journey as homeless in portland. You rock!

Yelp
The staff at Rose Haven provides an invaluable service to women and their children going through hard times. They provide a safe haven, as many have escaped violent situations, and envelope them in kindness, give them a calm and safe place to stay, provide meals and clothing. While I've never had a need to use their services, I choose Rose Haven for my donations of new and barely worn clothing. While on a health journey myself, I have gone down several sizes and have brought bags and bags of practically new clothes - leggings, summer pants and t-shirts, winter coats, sweaters, brand new bras and panties, shoes, sneakers, and hygiene items to this shelter knowing these items will help women get their basic needs met, which is the first step in helping them transform their lives.

Yelp
Rose Haven't supports houseless or underserved women and children. Whether it be breakfast, lunch, showers, washers & dryers, or quick medical aid, THEY ARE MINDFUL & EFFECTIVE. They provide classes or coaching about finances, emotion health, crocheting, sewing, companionship and essentials like clothes, coats, flashlights, tents, blankets. These "necessities" are donated by many - like my husband & I -- to lift these folks from desperate straits. GIVE MINDFULLY and support this amazing organization, please.

Yelp
I SEEM to be followed every time I go in there!? Not sure why? Its VERY invasive and a violation of my privacy!! I have never done anything, threatening behavior and or otherwise engaged in ANY non-acceptable behavior, according to their rules, that could possibly justify this! Also the woman who sits at the front desk(and who also follows me around) can be inexplicably rude! NOT a good first impression esp for folks in/dealing with difficult mental health challenges, are houseless and or tired and stressed from living outdoors! She seems to be irritated with them and or just not accepting of the type of people who frequent Rose Haven! It would be FAR better for that first contact (w a staff person), to be a positive one!!

Yelp
Never in all of my life did I imagine I would ever end up homeless. Never in all of my life, even through raising three children and moving here to Oregon did I ever consider that you don't have to be a bad person to end up with no house. There are some women that are pretty rough off here. Technically, we all are, but some are really hard to look at, yet these angels at Rosehaven serve us all equally with humility and love, and christlike gentleness just like God called us to do. the staff are truly trying to help us and they do the work that nobody else is willing to do. And gracefully, I was so humbled and moved. My gratitude is so great please donate to them because they help so many women. Often in homelessness it means everything just to have one person care about your safety and comfort. There's not hardly anyone to safely trust. Thank you Lord, these women save my life by letting me in and caring about me. Truly saints of compassion and mercy doing the golden commandment of the Lord. They serve A LOT of women and therefore are cooking large pans of food. It doesn't matter what the ingredients are, the warmth of the food and the safety of walls that cannot easily be penetrated are PRICELESS. Literally I started to cry in gratitude and relief and thought wow, my grief bubbles up immediately after my basic survival need is met even for a few minutes. Being a trauma survivor of violence, I was not uncomfortable at all really, only in my head about the grief. But inside everyone is welcoming, calm, sincere, kind, dedicated and loving. A warm and supportive family is how I felt. Such a blessing to be able to shower and put on clean clothing especially during "that time" if you understand. The nurse checked out a couple concerns and she was so much kinder than emergency room nurses who are visibly disgusted. That doesn't happen here. Please donate to Rosehaven. From Seattle to Crescent City, these were the first people to help me. Absolute angels.

Yelp
This is not my real name. But lemme say that being trans and thousands of miles away from home that unfortunately means I was homeless. I'm educated but I don't get work. And I been homeless in other cities. This place is the best sanctuary for women I seen. Especially before the pandemic kicked us all back outside. C'est la vie. But clean showers, and hot meals, plus clothes if you need it, toiletries, etc. Very helpful staff. Everyone there is so kind though seriously. So get help here ladies if you need it and keep donating to them if you're a supporter of the wonderful work they do for community because without this place life in Portland for houseless women would be unbearable.

Yelp
Clients have told me that Rosehaven is the most respectful toward them. You can drop items off for individuals if you knew their last name. You can also leave clothing and shoes for the general population. So pleased that we have a place like this for people living outside.

Yelp
What an amazing organization. If you have time to volunteer this is a great place to do it. They have helped so many women and children over the years with dedicated staff, volunteers and amazing fundraisers.

Yelp
This is by far the best volunteer experience I have ever had. I have a 30 year volunteer resume and Rose Haven is truly the most feminist activity you could participate in. I donated to Rose Haven and even created events to raise money for them before I crossed over to the really fun stuff and worked in the day shelter serving lunch, helping in the boutique, and finally teaching a class. The volunteer coordinator is Jessica is so organised, and passionate about what she is doing it is truly inspiring, she has time for everyone in need. Heather is such an inspired visionary and an on task class planner it is so great to work with her. Liz is so positively engaged with everyone and everything she is doing you want to keep coming back, her heart is huge. Katie is the most diligent net worker and fundraiser all the while able to be present with anyone in need. Rebekah has such a deep and constant empathy and understanding of what these women are going through. Anika greets everyone at the front entrance with so much light, acceptance, and love the tone of the day is set in such a lovely way. Leigh makes sure the women that come through Rose Haven know they matter with food is not only organic but healthy by making sure it is balanced with options for everyone. Avi greets everyone with a warm smile, plenty of time and a big ear. Christine is an empathetic and present person. Jaye has a special ability to honor clients with her unique ability to listen and understand. Rose Haven sets a high tone of respect for every woman that comes through the door. The clients are so amazing, intelligent, strong, solid, intuitive, caring, kind, collaborative, evolved. I never leave an experience volunteering feeling anything but deeply moved, impressed and inspired.

Yelp
Amazing resource for women and children who need a little help getting back on their feet. A hot meal, some clothes, hygiene kit and a caring group of women to support in a time of need.

Merrideth C.

Yelp
Disrespectful towards mothers, hazardous for children - told to go sign in for clothes, and then go outside and wait for volunteer to call me in to get clothes because my child was crying, not allowed to sit and wait inside. Told to share food i bought for us. Immature, cold, distant staff. Staff stop arguments by kicking out victim, letting bully stay. Main room cold, cramped. Bathroom wait times are ridiculous. Smoking on patio, and ramp. Staff seem untrained. Rules are constantly changing. Clients treated disrespectfully, like undisciplined children, not adults. Staff talk like they have to own and control everything and everyone. Power trips. Too much arguing, fighting put-downs and intimidation and abuse between staff and clients and among clients. They dont announce available services until the day of or on the last day (Friday) before, no time to prepare. They do not have a listing of available resources. They pick and choose who gets help.

Yelp
Don't bother. Stay downtown. Rose Haven moved to this location nearly seven years ago and is very inaccessible to the homeless/low income population it serves being at least two miles away from downtown shelters for women. It's actual space is very cramped, being inside a church basement and nothing is done and excuses are made to find a bigger service location. This can play havoc on an overstressed client. The attitude demonstrated by the senior staff is surly and jaded and at times abusive. When complaints are made to the director there is no resolution and one has to wonder as case workers and other staff move on to different positions how they are faring with their new employers as the bad habits in personal relationships fostered here will stay with them. A social worker/ case worker should not look at two women having a dispute and say "Ladies. DEAL!" A volunteer coordinator who has difficulty interacting with clients should not scream at a client telling them they are being very rude and disrespectful....screaming...insulting...and then the next interaction loudly mock that client in the hallway in front of the director. When serious problems such as this are brought to the director nothing is done with excuse being made that the director "needs" these people. Rose Haven doesn't need workers like this, in other cities staff like this would be fired on the spot after exhibiting nasty behavior like this. On top of this the service extending to the clients aren't worth the trek made to this remote location.
