"Rose La Moon is a casual spot for Thai food and desserts in Berkeley that’s mostly meant for takeout. The menu consists of a few hawker-stall style snacks like a Hat Yai fried chicken, a few noodle dishes like a pad see ew, and desserts like sticky rice in banana leaf with taro.  " - ricky rodriguez

Google
Best, most authentic, passion-made Thai restaurant with huge dessert menu in the East Bay! Been here 4 times and tried maybe 20% of their really thoughtfully curated menu. The owners and staff are all so enthusiastic about their creations and made me feel like I am their most welcomed guest always. Their food and EXTENSIVE dessert menu are both excellent. As good for quick lunch break on a work day as chilling on the weekend with friends and family. The seating and layout are okay but I think hey are making the best use of their space already.

Google
Such a great spot for really authentic and delicious Thai food!! We loved everything we ordered and the flavors were spot on — tasted just like it would if we were in Thailand. Must try’s include their pork skewers and the moo tod (fried pork), but honestly you can’t go wrong here. Don’t leave without trying the dessert too, they have some really unique Thai desserts that you can’t find at other Thai spots in the US. The staff are also so lovely and sweet. So thankful for this new spot that tastes and feels just like home ❤️🇹🇭

Google
Service was amazing and the food felt like i was in Thailand again! You definitely need to get the pork noodles and the pandan lemongrass tea. The cakes are also not too sweet and really fluffy.

Rose La Moon is truly a one-of-a-kind Thai restaurant that shines with its exceptional food and outstanding customer service. The staff’s enthusiasm for sharing their menu and deep knowledge of authentic Thai cuisine creates a warm, inviting, and informative dining experience. From the perfectly crispy Hat Yai Fried Chicken to the delightful desserts, each dish reflects their commitment to premium ingredients and impeccable preparation. The flavors are extraordinary, and you can trust that every item on the menu will surpass expectations. Highly recommended dishes and drinks include: • Hat Yai Fried Chicken (an absolute must-have) • Grilled Skewers with Jaew Sauce • Pad Kee Mao • Sweet Corn Salad • Hor Mok with Jasmine Rice • Iced Butterfly Pea Tea • Iced Lemongrass-Pandan Tea • Mini Orange Cake A meal at Rose La Moon is guaranteed to be memorable—don’t miss out!

Google
The food was delicious and the service was exceptional! The chicken skewers were incredibly juicy and flavorful, and the salad rolls were very fresh. The sauces complemented the dishes perfectly, very authentic flavors. We also had a Thai iced tea and a pandan tea, both very tasty. The owner was super friendly and gave us samples of a taro dessert. We'll definitely have to come back for dessert and full meals sometime! Edit: came back again and they gave me a sample of a corn dessert, super delicious!

If you’re after real Thai food, this place hits the spot. The dishes are packed with flavor, nice and spicy, just how they should be if you want the real deal. The owner was super friendly, taking time to chat about the menu and what makes it special. It’s got a laid-back vibe with a self-service setup—order from the display, easy and quick. The Thai Fried Absolutely killer. The pork was a bit salty, but still tasty. Prices are fair, and it’s a solid choice if you’re missing that real Thai taste. The sauce they put with the rice is super delicious.

The fresh spring rolls were the best I’ve ever tasted! The co-owner Shine was super welcoming and friendly. Clearly he is a passionate foodie and enthusiastically explained the different dishes and desserts and offered a free sample. I really enjoyed my first visit and plan to return soon! Highly recommend!! New Thai flavors not available anywhere else…

Google
Everything was flavored well and balanced perfectly. Packed with umami and not too salty! Fast casual Thai food that is /actually/ good can be hard to come by, but this place does it well! The owners are so sweet and their desserts are really good too. For food, I recommend the Pad Krapow! The texture of Pad Kee Mao was really tasty. I wish I got it mire spicy, but overall very flavorful. For dessert, my favorite was the coconut cake and sticky rice with Thai custard. So delicious! I'll definitely come back :)

Ani T.

Yelp
Delicious and more unique Thai experience! Moo Tod with Jaew Sauce was delicious fried pork with some good crispy crunch and spices. Paired well with Sweet Corn Salad. For dessert I got corn coconut pudding which was interesting combination of salted soft coconut pudding with a more jelly corn base. Im craving it right now! I was scouting for some new interesting eats in Berkeley when I came across Rose La Moon. The menu is very unique and piqued my interest. One of the co-owners was there and he excitedly walked me through the menu and passionately talked about his favorite dishes while I waited for my order. I got my order to go, so I dont remember what seating was like.

Yelp
This place is delicious. No frills, mom and pop store with the BEST mango sticky rice. A little stingy with their sauces but GENEROUS with their soft, abundant toilet paper. I kid you not, don't take it for granted

jonathan g.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food! The chicken skewers with sticky rice. Simple and phenomenal! Family owned, such nice owners and staff. A must try!

Paul A.

Yelp
Affordable and delicious! Food is made with such care and attention! The staff are great and it really feels like they're trying to show love through their food. Ambiance is simple. Don't sleep on this one!!

Yelp
Rose La Moon opened where Quince was. 4ish table dine-in area. Order on kiosk near counter. No paper menu. Very inconvenient. Associate standing by with suggestions.. Ordered. Paid. Food arrived within 10 minutes. Offerings: hawker street food, chef's specials, salads, wok entrees, sauces & sides, desserts, specialty cakes, specialty beverages. Sips: iced lemongrass-pandan tea (4.50) -slight lemongrass flava, subtle hint of pandan. Touts antioxidant benefits. Very sugary. Hype? Bites: hat yai quarter leg fried chicken with sweet & sour sauce (10.95) -leg quarter supposedly marinated, fried, served with shallots. Chicken meat moist, not juicy. No flava tasted. Sweet & sour sauce a distraction In hindsight, adding s/s sauce too quickly a mistake. Fried chicken itself needs to be savored before adding sauce. Moo Manao salad (13.95) -poached pork pieces served over fresh sliced garlic, broccoli, cabbage, basil leaves with spicy green chile lime sauce, lime squeezes. -mixed it all up. Pork bland, tasteless. Lime & chilis overpowdered by strong garlic presence. *ate this later. Time may have diluted potency of all tastes except for garlic. Passed on desserts. Quantity best shared with friends. 4 stars: fresh ingredients. Nice presentation. Taste test disappointing...affects value...after digesting owner's response....seeing a misread on my part of the complex nature of their cooking regiment. A revisit is warranted..owner gracious to explain their methodology...

Yelp
Lovely service, fragrant fried chicken and a Thai tea dessert reminiscent of the feather-light Chinese bakery cakes. Food that punches above its small cafe weight.

Yelp
I found this hidden gem while on a walk at work. I have since been back several times. The owners go above and beyond to answer my questions and help me try new things. The corn salad was so incredibly fresh and delicious. But the Pandam cake is truly a game changer. I will be dreaming about that dessert for the rest of my life, I swear. I love light fluffy cake and if there was a word beyond love- that's how I feel about cream, so this hits all of my marks. I love this place! Go support a local small business! Check them out.

Elaine W.

Yelp
You must come and try these desserts! The cakes in particular are SO fluffy and in true Asian dessert fashion, not too sweet. The coconut puddings are simply wonderful - the coconut on top is slightly salted and contrasts well with whatever flavor is underneath - taro, purple rice, or sweet corn. The savory food options look super delicious and I would love to try. Everything is reasonably priced and the owner (?) is incredibly sweet and helpful. So happy with this addition to the neighborhood!

Norases V.

Yelp
best coconut cake! look chup (mungbean heart bites) is amazing as well. A (the owner) specializes in Thai desserts. If you want something lighter, go for coconut jelly! yenta for fried rice is good for kids! papaya salad is fresh and refeshing, crunchy papaya.

Yelp
My wife and I discovered this place while walking to East Bay Nursery a couple of weeks ago. We had just eaten, but the menu was intriguing and the owners we chatted with were extremely friendly so I told them we'd be back in and boy am I glad I decided to. Everything was phenomenal. I started with the fried chicken, pork skewers and a lemongrass pandan tea. They were so good that I decided to also order the Pad Kra Pao. The chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy and came with a yummy sweet Thai chili sauce. The pork skewers melted in my mouth and were packed full of flavor. The owner also saw me eyeing the desserts when I came in and was kind enough to give me a sample of a coconut and tapioca ball that was warm and chewy and not too sweet. Super friendly service and great food. I'll definitely be back.

Chaya B.

Yelp
Tried it for the first time for take out for my birthday. The cute desserts made it seem festive. Food was delicious, drinks were good, and so were the desserts. Really loved the chicken skewers! I can't wait to try it again!

Daniel L.

Yelp
Had a delicious lunch and the staff were extremely friendly. And the food was really fresh and flavorful. Great hidden gem on San Pablo.

Tiffany S.

Yelp
The food was excellent, as was the service-- I'll be back! I had the fried chicken, it was crispy and juicy, great flavor.

Karen N.

Yelp
I am big fans of their desserts! Their pandan cake, Thai tea cake, coconut jelly, mango and sticky rice! As a neighbor down the block, this is a welcomed business to have in my hood. My favorite food item to get is the green bean salad... the dressing is fish sauce and lime juice good!

Susanna K.

Yelp
Came for Sunday lunch. Parked on the street. We ordered the pork dry noodles and papaya salad. Very considerate menu where you can make adjustment like spiciness, no peanuts, no lime, etc. After we paid, we sat down and food was served to us. Flavor was authentic and refreshing. Satisfied my Thai craving.

Kimberly V.

Yelp
YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE! The food was beyond outstanding. The family vibes were strong and made me feel like I was a part of it. The service was quick and fresh and the owners even checked in on us. I have literally no words to express how amazingly wonderful the food and the drinks and the whole experience was at this gem of a restaurant. On second thought, maybe I will just keep it all to myself...

Yelp
Delicious food, amazing desserts and impeccable hospitality. Definitely recommend this place to all

Soo K.

Yelp
First time here and customer service is phenomenal!! The guy at the front gave me a sample of their taro dessert which was really yummy. It was slightly sweet (perfect for Asian taste buds) creamy from taro and lightly salted. I'll definitely be coming back :) **FOOD REVIEW** I am a Thai food fanatic and honestly my mind was blown trying their special salmon with green sauce!! The salmon is cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth. The combination of the coconut milk + sauce is outstanding. I paired it with their papaya salad and it's amazing!! My boyfriend got the krapow and it was very flavorful as well. I wished that we had ordered more off the menu and they had more items as the menu is limited.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Stopped by today after reading so many great things about this restaurant. I'm a simple eater-- mainly chicken and veggies. Owner/manager recommended their Pad See Ew, as it is different there than other Thai restaurants. He was right! Best Pad See Ew I have EVER had! I'll be going back to try several other dishes. Tried the Green Seafood sauce, and Shine was right-- not fishy at all. Not the coziest environment, (just very simple and no frills) so I'll probably get take-out. Looking forward to trying the desserts as well! Thank you Shine. :-)

Nancy D.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this shop by luck when I was taking a leap to cross the bridge on a Saturday. But it was well worth it to find this gem in the Bay. This is the real deal authentic Thai good good you can't find once you get back into the States from Thailand. The staff have true Thai hospitality and take pride in their food and desserts. It's "not too sweet" as is the complaint for those who are sick of Americanized Thai food. My only wish is that they use real dishes when dining in but that won't deter me from continuing to support this spot. This place reminds me of the many reasons why the Bay is still so great. Don't miss out and tell all your friends. This spot has to stay open forever!

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Great new Thai restaurant in North Berkeley! The owner was very nice and stepped me through their menu and focus on authenticity. Loved the yellow curry and fried chicken. Next time I'll try the Drunken Noodles and one of the desserts! Give this place a try.

Aiden Y.

Yelp
Excellent, authentic thai food, especially the pork skewers, hat yai fried chicken, and larb. I highly recommend the iced butterfly pea tea, it's refreshing w/ the lime in it. Their desserts are amazing. We got the Bua loi, which is a warm, light, sweet coconut soup w/ fresh coconut pieces and yummy tapioca. The owner is really nice and provides all the info you need to make good decisions on what to get depending on your palate.

LT L.

Yelp
Great food and staff. Incredible and uncommon dessert options. Loved the fried pork, noodle dishes.

Krista V.

Yelp
I am thai myself and can guarantee the authenticity of the food! My mother and I go here pretty often and the food is always consistently great. The employees are very kind and patient. I mistakenly ordered the wrong drink and the waiter kindly made me a new one. I highly recommend their pork skewers, it reminds me of thailand so much. They're combo comes with skewers, sticky rice and a corn salad that is to die for. Their menu selection is quite unique, it is difficult to find a thai restaurant that has so many thai desserts. They also have the traditional thai tea, many thai restaurants only have the american thai tea never the traditional way with sweeten condensed milk.

Misato O.

Yelp
This is my favorite Thai place!! I eat Thai food maybe 4 times a week but I am in love with this place. I had Pad Kapow Basil over Jasmine Rice and my bf had Thai Pork "Dry" Noodle Soup and they were both good. I think the taste was very authentic. The owner of the Spartans was super nice too! He let us try their dessert, fish oil sauce, and Lemmon glass beverage.

M L.

Yelp
We accidentally discovered this amazing, new Thai restaurant after picking up our daughter from school today. The place we tried to go to was closed, but it was a fortunate accident that we ended up at Rose La Moon. No other way to describe it other than it felt like visiting someone's family house party where all the food was cooked by everyone's favorite aunt who always does all the cooking. You can tell this is a labor of love of the owners' (who are super friendly) who told us their vision was to cook all the food they missed from Thailand. If I could give 6 stars, I would! Truly one of Berkeley's shining stars, and my current favorite restaurant. Tip: Chat up the owner, Shine, and he might hook you up with some samples of their amazing Thai desserts!

Toni M.

Yelp
Tonight I had some of the coconut corn pudding for dessert. It was as wonderful as I anticipated and it took considerable will power not to eat the whole thing, but I didn't. Shine said some people do, but I like to eat some, along w/ fruit for dessert. I can see another container of this in my future!

Chau T.

Yelp
The savory food was really good, with dishes that aren't available in a lot of Thai places. They have a larger variety of sauces you do need to pick out and sometimes pay for, but the "seafood sauce" was super yum. The desserts are very lightly sweet; this is a dessert place tailor made for me! I bought three desserts so I could take some home. They're also really nice here, I wanna go all the time. I would, if I lived closer!

Jason D.

Yelp
This place needs some love. I live around the corner (they took over the Quince Cafe spot) but didn't realize it had already been open for 8 weeks. What a waste of 8 weeks that I haven't already tried it. It was so great! I love Thai food, but hate that most restaurants are carbon copies of each other and end up serving really watered down Americanized versions of Thai food (google culinary deplomacy of thailand to see why). Not true for Rose La Moon. The menu is varied, with a ton of street food options and beautiful desserts I've never seen before that I can't wait to try. The service is stellar, with the owner(?) chatting with me and my daughter the whole time about his restaurant, his upbringing, which menu items to try. It was a really pleasant experience. I got the fried chicken, which was super crispy without tons of breading. The skin was so good. The pork skewers were super tasty. And I loved the corn fritters. You can modify the spice level (so my daughter would eat it), but they gave me a few amazing side sauces so I could up the spice on my own. Definitely coming back, a wonderful addition to the neighborhood.

Dan T.

Yelp
Not your typical Thai restaurant: This is a family-owned spot that prides itself in being unapologetically authentic with their dishes. As you peruse through the menu on the self-order kiosk, you will be engulfed in the salivating aromas of the kitchen, making you want to try everything on their menu. The Thai street food options will alter your perception of Thai cuisine, and you will wonder why it took so long for a place like this to pop up in the Bay Area. And somehow, they manage to find the time to curate a fine selection of exotic Thai desserts as well?? I came here only a few weeks after they opened, and was so impressed by the quality and flavor of the food. You can tell that the owners put a lot of heart into this place. Excited to see what they have in store for the future!

John L.

Yelp
Amazing flavors, service, portions, and prices make Rose La Moon one of my top picks for Thai food and desserts, not just in Berkeley but anywhere. Pros: + interesting and varied dishes + distinctive and authentic flavors + great portion sizes Cons: - parking may be difficult (but that's more the city's fault) Restaurants come and go but every now and then you find a place that serves *JUST* the right flavor and Rose La Moon hits all the keys to a great experience. From savory dishes to sweet desserts, there is an amazing variety of tastes and textures to satisfy any craving for Thai Food. A small but varied menu gives you tons of choices but the fried chicken in particular should be one of the highlights for you. Desserts are made with quality ingredients and the icings and textures are unparalleled. Combine that with reasonable prices and amazing service, and you've got an unparalleled experience. Make no mistake, this is a Thai eatery, but this is not just typical Thai food. The flavors and sauces are hand made and custom balanced to reflect the chefs' tastes and preferences, and I think you'll like those a lot. Check it out ASAP!

Loretta L.

Yelp
Best authentic thai in Berkeley. Clean kitchen, great quality food. Intricate flavors. Reasonably priced. 3 tables only go for the take away. Lovely kind Thai service.

Lucy C.

Yelp
Delicious: seasoned perfectly and not too sweet like many other Thai places. Had pork skewers, pad kee mao with shrimp, and the green corn dessert, all exceeded expectations. Will definitely be ba

Amanda Y.

Yelp
Food is excellent! We had grilled pork with sticky rice, crispy pork belly with chinese broccoli. They were so delicious! It reminds me of the times when I ate in Thailand. This is the taste of real Thai food you would eat in Thailand. They also have traditional Thai desserts. It was really yummy! Staff members are really nice and friendly. They brought plates for us to share the food too. Ambiance is cozy and cute. Highly recommend this place!

Tetyana G.

Yelp
Amazing food! We got grilled pork skewers, fried chicken, chicken larb, and warm coconut pudding with tapioca. Everything was so flavourful and delicious! The ambiance was nice too and the owners were very friendly and helped us choose items from the menu. Highly recommend this lovely place for lunch or getting snacks and desserts. They have a variety of cakes for sale too. Can't wait to come back and try other items from their menu!

Jessica V.

Yelp
Moo Tod, Papaya Salad, and Tom Yum were all great! Very friendly and fast service too.

Rita C.

Yelp
Don't sleep on this place. The savory menu items are great, but my favorites are the desserts made of mung beans, eggs, and syrup. The staff have been friendly and helpful every single time we've gone. It's not a "basic" Thai place--it's better.

Panini P.

Yelp
Our new favorite spot for Thai food. Fried Chicken, Moo Tod, Corn Fritters, and Hor Mok - all delicious! Was just two of us for dinner so will be returning with friends soon so we can order that, plus more, more, more. We liked the casual atmosphere and enjoyed chatting with the owner. Tip: Hours say open till 7pm, but kitchen closes at 6:45p. Mom and pop operation so don't walk in at 6:58p expecting to order.

Orawan S.

Yelp
Would love to try this place because I'm a Thai desserts lover and not disappointed. Luckily with our big group, we could tried many items on the menu. Started with Iced Lemongrass-Pandan Tea is a must!! Chicken Grilled Skewers is very authentic Thai style and we love it. Papaya Salad, Fried Marinated Pork, Had Yai Fried Chicken are perfect pairing with sticky rice. All the dessert is perfect taste, not too sweet and I like that. Service was amazing and attentive. This is a tiny shop that has just a few tables. You can order at the counter or kiosk machine and street parking only. Recommended!!

Tammy I.

Yelp
Had lunch today at this Thai place in Berkeley. They serve authentic Thai foods and desserts that hard to find in the area. Price is reasonable. Foods are so delicious tastes just like Thailand. Highly recommend if you like authentic taste.

Michelle A.

Yelp
All the food was amazing especially some of the hard-to-find Thai desserts. My favorite is "Bua Loy" which is chewy mochi-like balls in warm coconut milk. I've only ever seen that in Thailand. Extensive and innovative menu. We enjoyed talking with the owners, Shine and A, and look forward to retuning to work our way through the menu. Great service and hospitality too.

J L.

Yelp
Incredible and special Thai food, with lots of abilities to modify, and fantastic service!

Carol L.

Yelp
What a wonderful gem to stumble upon! Recently opened in the last 3 mos. Immediately greeted by the wonderful and informative male, assuming is the owner/chef/overall mastermind. They take pride in their authenticity while striving to further expose individuals to the non-generic Thai dishes/desserts. I absolutely love pandan and knew had to get the lemongrass pandan drink -- let me tell you; it will blow your socks off. Refreshing, sweet, and beautiful color I might add. Chicken skewers were grilled to the utmost perfection. Ground chicken kapow -- so glad to finally have ground meat as some places would use thinly sliced meats instead. I get mild spice as I know Thai institutions take their spices seriously. As for the dessert, I'll have to update this once I take a bite later. As of for now, I will savor my time with these delightful pieces. Certainly will be back as there is hype about their fried chicken ;) PS street parking only; they do not own the parking lot in the back.

Perry K.

Yelp
What a great little hole in the wall! We ordered the fried chicken; the crunchy texture and savory flavor totally brought me back to my visit to Thailand. The ice coffee was strong and not too sweet. The Pad Kee Mao had a nice underlining spiciness and was well balanced. You won't regret ordering their coconut cake, if you like desserts. It had a wonderfully strong coconut flavor and had lots of pieces of coconut in the layers.

Jessica T.

Yelp
Rose La Moon is a new must visit in Berkeley. The food is excellent with a welcoming vibe. We ordered Pad Kee Mao noodles, Fried Chicken with Sticky Rice, Thai Ice Coffee, and a Young Coconut Cake. Everything was delicious. You're not going to find flavor this authentic outside of Thailand. The coconut cake was amazing. It tastes even better than it looks.

a g.

Yelp
OMG how has this restaurant been open and I'm just finding out now. It is fantastic. The fried chicken is so good and not overpriced like that other thai restaurant that has many locations and just opened on Shattuck. Corn fritters were delicious. I can't wait to try all of the desserts that I've never heard of. I hope they do catering because I would love to get them to cater my next birthday party. Tell everyone about this place!!!

Josue M.

Yelp
Great food, ambience, service and very quick with our food. Everything was really great, especially the dessert!

Lucy Z.

Yelp
One of the best thai food places I've eaten at. We were looking for food before leaving Berkeley on a day trip and were just able to come here before they closed. We got the Pad Thai with Shrimp, a fried pork belly dish, and their fried chicken. Everything was well seasoned and cooked to a T. Staff were also really nice and welcoming. Will definitely come back here when we're in the area!
