Texas Bars Want to Prove They Can Reopen Right Now | Eater Austin

"As part of TBNA’s coordinated “soft open” on May 15, I note that Rose Room is participating in a staff-only demonstration of safe-reopening protocols: window boards removed, no public drink service, and DJs or live music encouraged. The venue will adhere to TBNA’s proposed protocols—spaced seating instead of open standing areas, additional door staff to enforce distancing, single-use cups and plates, mandatory staff masks, and supervised hand-sanitizer use—to support the case that bars should be allowed to reopen; The Union Venture co-owner Darren Van Delden said he believes the industry can create safer environments but cannot fully control patrons’ behavior outside the space." - Nadia Chaudhury

Rose Room was SO MUCH FUN Friday night. Our cocktail waitress Ashley was sweet & attentive, and DJ XCEL played all the best tunes. We danced 2 hours straight! Fun vibes, cool decor, highly recommend.

Shhhhhhh... Garden City's best kept secret. Hidden in the GCH somewhere.... Amazing staff and drinks. Cool setting. Hard to find. Go see the hotel front desk and tell them you want to have a new experience and tell the Barsnobs sent ya! A very cool speakeasy bar. You will have a fun time. Great music, it gets packed out after 10pm so get there early.

My girlfriends and I had the most amazing night at the Rose Room! We danced the whole time to DJXel who played exactly the music we needed. We couldn’t sit it was so good! How have I not gone before? Ashley was the Best server!!! Dressed chic like the space itself and so fun to be around. She made the night. German and John were also great and had fun personalities. Can’t wait to go back this month.

Went to the Rose Room at the Garden City Hotel with some friends on Friday and had a great time. They took us down in a golf cart to a secret entrance and we walked into a really cool speakeasy. The place was very busy and the music was pumping. We tried the specialty cocktails our server Ashley recommended and they were great. We also had some cheese and charcuterie plate that was delicious and they even had a popcorn machine in the back. Very cool place. I will definitely be returning soon

Google
High end speakeasy bar that's a tiny bit of an effort to get to. Interesting spot for sure. If you love speakeasy's then it's definitely the place for you. I loved the decor, the layout and the drinks.

Google
I visited the Rose room with some girlfriends last weekend and I would go back in a heartbeat. The bar was so edgy and the drinks were amazing! The bartenders Ashley and Sam were extremely personable and made the experience so memorable. I plan on going back this weekend and bringing some more friends. excited to say we found our new favorite spot.

Speakeasy meets the Secret Garden. Cool vibe and EXCELLENT service from the moment you arrive and are driven to the “secret” doorway. You just gotta do it!

Google
The perfect spot to either start your night, end your night, or just spend all night at. My husband and I checked this place out for our anniversary, and it was the absolute highlight of our night. The staff was fun and bubbly, the music was perfect for us millennials, and it was the perfect volume to still be able to have a conversation. The drinks were delicious, ESPECIALLY the zombie. I loved the psuedo-speak-easy vibes, and will definitely be returning the next time we're in town.

Yelp
It's a true speakeasy! Def pricey but it is so cute in there. It is on the smaller side but a great spot for a nightcap

Yelp
During our check in, we were told there was a speakeasy on site. After our event one Saturday night, we decided to check it out. It's as described by others... if you're staying on site, it's worth checking out but I wouldn't make a special trip for it. We were starving and glad to see some apps on the menu, however, nothing super appealing after you've had a few drinks. We got the shrimp cocktail (3 pieces) and a small charcuterie board. Together this was over $50 before tip and overpriced. I think options are limited because they don't have a kitchen nearby.

Yelp
We attended a 40th Birthday Party in the Rose Room. The coolest spot to have a private party. Love the vibe and the drinks are amazing. The food was buffet style and passed hors d'oeuvres. The bartenders and staff are friendly and attentive. Highly enjoyed the event and can't wait to go back! Well done GCH!

Yelp
Maybe this place is better when the weather is warmer or maybe the drinks are better if there were different bartenders and maybe just maybe I could really try to say some positive about this place, but I can't. So you show up to the entrance of the Garden City hotel and a man takes you in golf cart to the back of the hotel ,down a steep commercial driveway where the trucks unload and there is a door with a speaker above it, howling sounds of a wolf ! The inside decor is decent and price wasn't an issue, some people complain about this ,when you go out anywhere nice in Long Island, or the city or anywhere, you gonna have to pay, if that's a problem, then you should just stay home, so besides, the fact that it's expensive, the drinks were absolutely horrible. Tried two different ones and one was worse than the other, I really felt bad for the bartender because she put a lot of time doing her Mixology, she was a sweetheart but the place is a gimmick and you should only go so you can tell your loser friends that you were there lol, that's basically the only reason.

Amourelle C.

Yelp
The staff was lovely as always, especially John, Brian, and Germain. They made me feel welcome and catered to. I was pleasantly to see a DJ the other night. There aren't many places in the area that offer that kind of feature and ambiance. Xcel was wonderful

Yelp
Amazing service and amazing place. This type of vibe isn't anywhere else in Long Island. City energy and fun. The Bartenders Kiki, Peter, and Francis are awesome! Amazing music as well.

Yelp
Place has a cool feel to it from the ride over to entry. It was however, a bit loud for what should be modeled after a speakeasy. Almost like loud club music. Hard to speak to bartender due to that. Other thing to consider, all fruits, veggies etc are left right in front of you, uncovered. Should be covered or away from public. Lastly, the cocktails are lacking. You give them a base liquid and say sweet/spicy/smokey/fruity and they should be able to draw up something different. I asked twice. First got a smokey old fashioned, fine. Then ask for another smokey drink...was given a Manhattan. They need to be able to come up with more unique cocktails to keep business flowing. Nice bartenders though!

Yelp
great speak easy vibes in the rose room at garden city hotel. such unique drinks and fantastic bartending staff cannot wait to attend again and celebrate

Yelp
We came easter weekend. Things were slow so they CDC would be closing early that night. The staff was friendly. The drinks, though expensive, were strong and tasty. The best part was probably the music. The DJ was excellent. I'll come back to experience the Rose room when it's more poppin.

Yelp
A fun experience! If you go to the main Hotel entrance of the Garden City Hotel a white Escalade Shows up and drives you around the back to the "secret location" then you "sneak" through the back door!! Once inside it has a very sultry vibe. Comfy sofas or small tables, I had the signature Mon Cheri it comes with the wolf logo on top and was yummy. Although we had had dinner already and I wasn't hungry, a few pretzels or some peanuts go along nicely with a drink. They offer nothing ( don't have it can't buy it ) again I wasn't hungry but I need a bite of something just to have with my drink. Drinks were pricey (specialty cocktails $18-$22) but a fun experience for DRINKS ONLY they have No food at all.

Juliana F.

Yelp
Awesome people, vibe, and cocktails! Had a great experience here after a wedding and everyone we were with enjoyed it as well!

Yelp
This place is entirely strange. Found out after our visit that it *may* be a good location to pick up another couple for the over 60 set. Vibe is lounge like. The trip down to the back of the hotel to gain entry makes it feel clandestine. But that was where the mystery ended. Not saying I wouldn't go back. But it wouldn't be the top of my list.

Yelp
After our delicious dinner at Red Salt Room, my boyfriend and I stopped at The Rose Room for some drinks. I had the "Last Word" and it was vey pleasant and my bf had a well served Guinness. The ambience was sexy, the space was very cool.

Yelp
This place is great! Came in from lower manhattan and I was impressed! Speakeasy in Garden city was top notch. Brian our bartender was nothing bu spectacular making amazing drinks with such care . If you appreciate quality craft cocktails and understand their worth come here! Also scotch flights as per my brother in law were also superb . I will definitely come back and hope to see Brian as my bartender !

Yelp
One star because they had cool red chairs. If you like rude inept staff then this is the place for you. Our waitress was rude and dismissive. The drinks were overpriced and lacking. The bar wasn't crowded, yet we were made to feel like we were bothering the staff. If you go to the Garden City Hotel, I think it's rational to expect better service and a well dressed staff, even if you go down to the speakeasy. This felt more like a dive bar in Queens.

David S.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. You pull up at the hotel. There are 14 people waiting. They are all Lost and disgruntled. They tell you to go into front, you do. Then they tell you 49 minutes. It's totally empty. You give them money to make it happen quicker. Then you go through this nonsense way to to this shitty dark and empty bar. They made you wait 35 minutes to get into a bar with 3 people inside. What a fucking joke. Never again. We lasted 4 minutes and left

Yelp
Can't believe the reviews are so bad for this place! We came here on Valentine's Day while staying at the hotel and loved it. It really takes you to a different world with the location and atmosphere a true secret speakeasy. Whoever was there on Valentine's Day the staff was beyond amazing it was empty so we talked to the bar tenders and they were so cool and really great service. Drinks are pricey but they're not well drinks they're great cocktails. Don't let the bad reviews keep you away.

Bernie H.

Yelp
Cool concept, but expensive drinks. The thing that costs them two start is you can't go there if you don't have a cell phone. How silly is that? Your out with your gal treating her for her birthday so you don't bring a cell phone, you want to just concentrate on her. Well don't plan on going to the Rose Room, you can't get in without a cell phone. Now you've got a blown plan and ruined the night with your gal! Somebody didn't think this one all the way through. Hopefully they get some adults to run the place before it runs into the ground.

Yelp
Thanks for bringing the NYC underground vibe to the heart of Long Island! This place is special and a true departure from the normal store front lounges that are in the area. Secretive and sheik is all I can say and the wolf cart ride from the hotel lobby to the subterranean venue is so much fun! Definitely coming back for live music on Saturday nights and will be booking a private birthday party for my wife or myself this year. Try the bees knees it was my favorite for sure but the cocktail list made it truly hard to decide as they were all so inviting. The best part was when we decided to comeback next week and book a room for a staycation before the holiday craziness begins!

Yelp
Loved the vibe here!!! The bartenders are clearly very experienced. Nice selection of cocktails and live music was a great addition to the night. Great for date night or for groups! Will definitely be back

Robert S.

Yelp
What a great, cool and hidden gem of a bar!! I was told by the front desk staff to check it out! Also a cool concept of being driven to this bar and the decor was amazing!! The drink section was great! i will definitely come back and tell my friends about The Rose Room

Jay C.

Yelp
I think they had the right idea when they first dreamed this up but they failed miserably. First of all to pay $20 for a drink on Long Island you really better blow me away. While the drinks were fine they were not anything to write home about. The decor is not bad but they have these VERY bright lights you turn on if you want a waitress. What a way to kill the mood if you are enjoying the soft lighting. On top of all of that anyone who goes to the restaurants at the hotel is told "hey have you heard about our new speakeasy? I can get you on the list" this leads business, I understand. but you are trying to create a vibe with a place like this and when people who would not otherwise go to a place like this start showing up in droves it becomes apparent that this is not such a "COOL" place. sorry folks it is so close to being a home run because I'm dying for this type of place in long island. Though, for the reasons I mentioned I'll never go back again. tyty, jaycee

Yelp
Experience is really cool- highly recommended if your going on a romantic date or even trying to impress a friend visiting. Cocktails were good - the menu can use 1 or 2 more unique drinks hence the 4 stars. Most drinks were ones that you could have anywhere - minus the Negroni. Service was great and live music was fantastic.
