I visited Rose Street Café for breakfast and ordered a Scottish breakfast with gluten-free toast and no haggis or sausage due to allergies. I was told the potato scone was gluten-free as well.
When the plate arrived, it still had haggis on it. The staff suggested simply removing it and having me keep the same plate, which is absolutely unacceptable for anyone with allergies. I requested a new plate, and it took about 20 minutes to arrive.
When the replacement finally came, it was missing key items—including the eggs that were supposed to be included—and I never received the gluten-free potato scone I had been told would come with the meal. No water was ever offered during the entire experience, which added to the overall feeling of inattentive service.
The waitress did give a 10% discount for the hassle, which I appreciated, but it didn’t make up for the repeated mistakes. If a restaurant advertises that they can accommodate gluten-free guests, they should be able to do so confidently and safely. Unfortunately, this café clearly has difficulty with that.
Between the slow service and the lack of care around allergens, I wouldn’t recommend Rose Street Café for anyone with dietary restrictions or anyone on a schedule.
