All of 2019’s D.C. Restaurant Closures | Eater DC

"I was surprised that Rosemary’s Thyme in Dupont Circle — known for pastas, pizzas, Mediterranean dishes like Turkish kebabs, and a tree‑lined patio popular for al fresco brunch — closed after nearly 18 years; the owner described the closure as sudden and hinted at making changes in their business life." - Eater Staff

Rosemary’s Thyme Bistro Closes in Prime Dupont Circle Space With Patio | Eater DC

"I learned that the trusty Dupont Circle bistro Rosemary’s Thyme has closed after nearly 18 years under the same management; it served pastas, pizzas, and daily happy hour alongside Mediterranean dishes including fish, Turkish kebabs, and flatbreads, and a tree-lined patio was a popular spot for al fresco brunching. The owner confirmed the “fast” closure in an email, writing, “I will do some other location or always want to go culinary school i don’t know yet. All I know time has come to make some changes in my business life,” and also promised that “good local people” will be replacing the restaurant." - Tierney Plumb

The food was perfectly balanced in flavor, and the staff were both quick and courteous—an excellent experience overall!

Stopped in for Dinner. Started with the Socuk. Ended with the Classic White Pizza, add mushrooms. Good vibes, great service. Would do again!

Google
First time dining in. Kristine is an asset to the restaurant. We ordered cheese pizza and seafood pappardelle, coming with the complimentary bread. We like the meal tonight and be back for sure!

Google
A hidden gem, everything was excellent! We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, and I’m so glad we did. The Adana kebab was the best I’ve had in the U.S. (and I truly say that without exaggeration). The flavor, texture, and spice balance were just perfect. The pizza was also a pleasant surprise, rich, flavorful, and definitely worth trying. If we hadn’t walked in randomly, we never would have known such delicious Turkish food was being served here. I think the only downside is that the restaurant doesn’t promote itself enough. Highly recommended a place worth discovering!

Google
The food came out super hot! The wraps are homemade and delicious. Highly recommend. The brunch had a very diverse menu with options for all palettes. The eggs were cooked perfectly (which nowadays is hard to come across!) Overall, this was a great dining experience for my family! However, attention to the women’s bathroom could be improved.

Erica V.

Google
First time here. Ordered 4 appetizers which were perfect portions for 2 people. The eggplant was excellent. Calamari wasn’t what I expected as “sauté” but sauce was tasty. Restaurant is very loud so difficult to have conversation in normal speaking tone.

I recently dined at Rosemary’s Thyme Bistro and it was an absolute delight! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are super friendly and attentive. We ordered a mix of appetizers (the hummus and borek were amazing) and everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. For the main course, I had the branzino, and it was perfectly cooked with a light lemony sauce. My friend tried the spicy chicken pasta, and it was just as good, big portions and full of flavor. This place really has a great mix of Mediterranean dishes, and you can tell everything is made with care. It’s cozy, casual, and perfect for a night out with friends or family. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
The coke is addictive (pun intended), tastes like it's fresh. Chicken and lamb are tender, the veggies are grilled to greatness 😋. I was not a fan of the rice nor beans but it may be a personal preference. They have creme brulee on the dessert menu, huge fan, please try it. Very nice staff.

Yelp
This is one of our local places that we just don't seem to get back to as often as we should. Yeah, that's gonna' change. Usually, we get the sigara burek (turkish cheesestick), someone gets a cheese pide (like a long, small cheese pizza), and I get the beef doner (turkish gyro). All are solid, never going to disappoint meals. I was going to get the doner again until I saw the buffalo chicken pizza. I thought it had disappeared from the menu. (It may have come back some time ago, but, like I said not as often as we should.) It was so worth getting. Wasn't in a wings mood (heresy I know), so this pizza hit just the right spot. The brick oven crust had a delightful chew and was just right between thin and hand-tossed. The sauce was a buffalo sauce with a bit of bite covered in mozzarella with blue cheese crumbles and crunchy celery. It was SO good. Now, I've gotta' try the buffalo burger to see how that stacks up against the pizza.

Yelp
Very chill atmosphere and great brunch menu. The servers attentive but not pushy. Will definitely return again

Yelp
Picked up take out on Saturday around 6; the line was out the door and the restaurant was packed. This is a local favorite. Is it my favorite? Not really but will I be back? Yeah! It's so close to me and my workplace loves to order from here. We tried the penne pasta salad and chicken shish. Chicken shish is not my favorite shish/ kabob in the area. I wasn't a fan of the cacik (yogurt-y tart) sauce. I liked the penne pasta salad. It's balsamic over mixed greens, chicken and pasta. I would get that again. I'm told the wraps are good.

Yelp
My team ordered dinner from Rosemary Thyme Bistro during a late night work session. I got the lamb burger which was really good. My side was chips but when I got the food the chips were a little stiff. The burger was well seasoned and juicy. I'm a fan.
google avatar

Arpreet K.

Yelp
Food was amazing! I ordered the chicken Alfredo and it was perfect! I ordered gluten free pasta as I'm gluten free and loved how the pasta tasted. The customer service is great, food came out quickly.

Yelp
Not great, not terrible. More than likely will not return. The seafood pappardelle pasta was meh.

Yelp
Cute little Mediterranean restaurant in a local shopping center. They serve a great variety of different Mediterranean dishes, and have such a welcoming inside to the restaurant. The calamari was our big winner. They don't deep-fry it but rather sauté it and serve it with their own calamari sauce. Absolutely delicious. One of the best calamari dishes we've ever had. They have a decent kebab combination plate - not the best we've ever had, but still pretty good lamb and chicken kabobs. Service was efficient. Parking was easy in the big lot outside. A good choice for dinner.

Yelp
My daughters and I ended up here last night by default and were so pleased with our experience! The staff was friendly and attentive and the food came out fast- which was very appreciated after a long day! The food was delicious! They had pizzas which had great, authentic crust and interesting & yummy toppings. I had a "rollo" which is their version of a wrap and it was fresh & flavorful! Overall, fantastic option for anyone in the area!

Yelp
Great place with great workers. Pides and pizza are outstanding. Chicken sish kepab is one of the best.

Yelp
We had a lovely family luncheon today, thank you! If you haven't tried this local eatery, then check out this very nice restaurant. They have a special oven which makes fabulous fresh flatbreads and pizza crusts. The ingredients used here are top quality...everything is homemade right down to the salad dressings. Fresh vegetables and salad greens. The Cesar salad dressing is yummy. Complimentary fresh home baked bread and dip. Fish is always a good choice here. Pide is a house specialty not to be missed. Soups are always fresh and homemade. Lovely aborio-style short grained rice as a side with the shish is yummy. The veggies are FRESH and not frozen.

Yelp
Wonderful ambience, love the food! Ordered the Chicken Shish last time and it was delicious. The home made pastas are also stellar. It's a very nice family owned restaurant with great staff. Our server Julian was really friendly and charming! The manager also knows his wines haha. Great place for a mediterranean experience!

Yelp
We have enjoyed this place and they've been consistently good for decades! I've always had delicious food here. Love their bread! Try their soups!

Yelp
Very good food and service in a comfortable setting where you can talk to friends without loud music. The entrees are very flavorful with good portions. I had chicken shish that was moist and flavorful. My wife had shrimp that she said were delicious. The salads that came with the entrees were just the right size. The baklava was the best I have had in a few years. Wonderful local restaurant with great food and service and fair prices.

Yelp
Noticed lots of local people goes there so my husband and I wanted to give it a try. It was during weekdays evening. Very nice and cozy vibe. Intimate and date night place for sure. We were there early dinner so we were seated right away but so many people were coming in to meet with their friends and or came in with families or lovers. They had lots of to-go orders especially pizza. We didn't get the memo though so we ordered different things. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My husband absolutely loved the salad and pasta. The protein in each dishes were unbelievably juicy. All ingredients were super fresh. The server was very attentive. Overall ambiance is not too quiet but not too loud. It was perfect to enjoy food and time with people you love. We loved the first experience. I want to recommend this place to other Yelpers :)

Yelp
I visited Rosemary's Thyme Bistro on a Sunday late afternoon with a friend to try their brunch menu. I was searching for non-chain places near the Centreville/Clifton area that has a brunch menu and this restaurant is one of those places. I had dinner at this place a few months before and I liked my experience. I enjoyed a cup of brewed coffee while waiting for my friend. As soon as my friend arrived, we were served freshly-baked complimentary bread with this delicious olive oil dip. I was unsure of what to order so I asked my server and she recommended that I try the Brunch Spinach Borek, which is a Turkish pastry with feta cheese and spinach while my friend decided to order their Chicken Salad. Let me say that the servings of both our orders are very delicious and really really generous that we had to take the rest of our food home. Our server was amazing and was quite attentive to us. The prices of the dishes are reasonable as well. I'd love to try their lunch and the rest of their dinner menu on my next visit.

Yelp
We've been to Rosemary's Thyme twice in the last few months and thoroughly enjoyed it! The service was quite good; I was especially impressed with the thoughtfulness of our most recent waitress. My husband liked his mushroom soup very much and the Caesar salad was quite good: crisp lettuce, well dressed, and very tasty. We all enjoyed the pizza. It was terrific! They even have a wood burning pizza oven. We're not in Clifton very often, but we'll be happy to return to Rosemary's when we are.

Evelyn S.

Yelp
One of our favorite local restaurants. Very tasty comfort foods. Particularly recommend: Mediterranean Pide, Salmon pizza, the shishes, kebabs, and Hunkar Begendi.

Hee K.

Yelp
Ehhhhh service. Okay food. It was my first time trying the place and again, just okay food. Three servers were present but barely got service. Asked for lemons and the waitress thought it'd be a great idea to pick up the lemon with her lovely BARE HANDS and give them to us. Yep, she picked one up first, decided to put it back and just grabbed another lemon with, again, her lovely BARE HANDS. Just great. Probably won't be going back. Especially due to the extra special lemons. ;)

Cynthia R.

Yelp
The food is good. The service is awful. The waitress' aren't friendly and they look miserable. Female bartender is great but don't ask for a drink with the manager. The vibe is just so down. I've been a handful of times and it's always dead inside. This place has so much potential.

Yelp
This was a very hard review to write. Right now its a 3.5. But I do recommend giving it a try. They do some cool and unique things here but have a couple of misses. Of the 4 dishes served 2 were great and 2 were so so. The menu has some cool things on it that need to be explored. The tortilla was actually hand made and I never saw that before. The Thai wrap was a miss but the veggie was a hit. The Thai was sauce failed. The chicken Sammy with veggies was loved. We sat outside and the server knew we wanted to hang out and did not pressure us. Extensive menu and good prices. Food was fresh. I will come back and update review.

Yelp
Local joint, with good relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for beer or wine. When I am here I go for the penne pasta chicken salad or grilled shrimp dish, which are very good. Good family restaurants with menu for kids as well. They use to have live violin players on the weekends, but not sure if they still do. However, good food with friendly staff restaurant you will enjoy.

Yelp
Do you ever eat a meal that seemed good enough at the time, but over time it starts to grow on you and tempt you in your dreams? That's how I felt about the lahmacun (ground lamb pizza) at this place. I met a friend here for lunch one day. I brought my baby and sat in a booth. They were accommodating and baby friendly. The server was helpful and fast. I have gotten gyros here before which are good enough but pretty basic, but I decided to branch out and get lahmacun. I'm a pizza traditionalist--I need tomato sauce, cheese, etc. This pizza was not like that, but it was so delicious in spite of that fact! We also got dessert--delicious baklava with ice cream. If the prices were a little lower, I'd be here all the time.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant on and off while I'm between living in Texas and coming back here for vacation. I have been coming here since high school (that was 2014 for me) and the one dish I always stick to is the alfredo. This is where my obsession started! Their brunch options are also good. My boyfriend got their pancakes with cajun sausage with eggs and home fries. In the past, I would also get steak and eggs; standard but yummy. The only thing stopping me from giving it a full five star review is I'm finding the quality of the food has declined. Another dish I like there is the Crawfish Saffron. I had it recently and it did not taste the same. It was more bland and the price didn't really justify the taste. I feel as though it's due to COVID-19 and dining in does not bode well with me unless the outdoor dining space is empty. I would still recommend this place to everyone for food!
google avatar

Victoria K.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and the food and service is consistently good! They're locally owned and a real Clifton staple. I love their pides, appetizers, wraps and their fresh baked bread. On a recent visit I tried their bbq sandwich and was not disappointed- huge portion and well seasoned. I chose the homemade pasta salad as the side and it was also flavorful with perfectly cooked al dente pasta. With a great price point and nice portions, I'm a proud regular.

Yelp
My Ladies and I were visiting the D.C. area when we stopped in here for Brunch (10-20-18). I LOVE Eggs Benedict but I did not want as much salt that morning so I had the Florentine instead. It was just as good! The tomato has tons of flavor! There was plenty of Hollandaise sauce; and I love Hollandaise sauce so there is rarely enough! The potatoes were flavorful without being greasy! I dipped them in my sauce to make them even better! Oh, and I get my eggs hard so the yolk does not run all over everything! MOST SINCERELY!
google avatar

Shivani G.

Yelp
I made a reservation for 11am brunch on a Saturday, but didn't need to because the place was surprisingly empty. I say surprisingly because I had an excellent meal and enjoyed the ambience. I ordered a breakfast pide and me oh my I was full for most of the rest of the day and I didn't even finish it! The pide was delicious and made my heart happy. The prices are fairly reasonable for what you get too. This is a fun place with interesting food. Highly recommend if you are looking for something different. Come hungry!

Dana P.

Yelp
I have held off on ordering from Rosemary's Thyme Bistro for nearly a year since moving to Clifton and it was because the overarching review for the restaurant isn't at least a 4 star, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Tortilla Soup, which as a dish is one of my favorites. One complaint from others was that it was kind of like tomato soup, but it was unique and different. It doesn't have chunks of chicken or vegetables, but it was tasty. I also enjoyed the house made bread, which is clearly Rosemary Thyme flavored with olive oil. I ordered a small Agean Salad with Grilled Chicken with the Feta Dressing. It was huge for a small salad, with fresh lettuce, lots of cheese, roasted pecans and dates. I would recommend giving this place a try for yourself.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Sadly, today's service & food (usually quick & delicious) was slow and barely edible. After we were seated, it took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive & over 35 minutes for our food to arrive. My son had bacon with wax paper still on it, my andouille sausage was over cooked, and my lemonade was only partly filled. It will be a while before I return.
google avatar

Monica U.

Yelp
My husband and I stumbled upon this place while we were running early morning errands. We decided to get breakfast here & the food was delicious! I got the smoked salmon and it was heavenly. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Charmaine C.

Yelp
The grilled shrimp with angel hair pasta and mixed vegetables was delicious! The shrimp was cooked perfectly (not over cooked like many places) with the right amount of smoky flavor. The layout of the restaurant was kinda a weird... lots of open spaces in the middle.

T B.

Yelp
Will be saying "ciao" to that other Italian place in Centreville. Our party had 3 different homemade pastas at Rosemary's and all were raving about the quality and flavor. Well done.
google avatar

Nilsu G.

Yelp
A true Mediterranean/Italian spot that you should try. Having tried a number of the items on the menu, our go-tos have become the shish kebab (cop shish) appetizer, which resembles a sizzling beef fajita, the Turkish pizza aka Lahmacun, salads, and the Turkish manti dumplings (tried boiled and pan fried). The raviolis have a distinct sauce. Pizzas are also very crispy and have fresh ingredients. Must try if you are in the area, for a humble, unassuming experience in a strip mall, with good smells and good food.

Yelp
I came here with my family on a Monday night and it wasn't too busy but there were some customers. Serena was our server and she was really great! She was super sweet and helpful. The food didn't take too long and they have a variety of things on their menu from burgers to pasta. Everything sounded really good but I opted for the pasta bolognese. The pasta was really good and it's a huge plate of food. My mom got the eggplant parm and my sister got the chicken pasta salad. They both really enjoyed their meals as well. My sisters chicken pasta salad was really delicious, I stole a few bites from her. They give a hearty amount for everything here which is nice. We also got the creme brûlée for dessert and it was amazing! I wish they had tiramisu though because we were craving that. Oh well! Next time I definitely wanna try one of their burgers. Really great place with great ambience.

Christina W.

Yelp
Fabulous! Crawfish Saffron. Just delicious! Service was fantastic, very attentive. Delicious desserts.
google avatar

Gayle M.

Yelp
I have been coming here for 15-20 years--I am never disappointed. Soups are homemade and delicious as are the salads. I have tried the shish. Delicious. I love the home made breads that accompany their meals. The wraps are delicious. It's one of my favorite places to eat. Last but not all least, the staff is always friendly and helpful

H M.

Yelp
I just finished dinner here and it was a great experience! Excellent service, amazing theme and background music. I had the gyro wrap and sucuk; both were just perfectly cooked and flavorful. Bravo to the chef. I will be returning here regularly from now on.

Tarannum A.

Yelp
One of my fav restaurants!! Let's start with the house bread and the "good stuff" served with the bread is so good (I think it's olive oil with eggplant) best ever. Next, the best tortilla soup I have ever had and I always order that as a side to the chick shish (our order every time we come here). We also order the blacked shrimp pizza which is good. The last but not least something that is a fav always, is the Alfredo pasta with shrimp and I ask for Cajun style(makes it so much better, if you like a little spice to your pasta) and it's so delicious, one thing I would like to say is sometimes there can be a very small clump of pasta stuck together that is undercooked bc it's stuck together but no biggie bc this is delicious.

Yelp
Great servers and foods! It was very delicious, the place was very clean, everybody was wearing their masks! Prices are good.

Yelp
1. Ambiance: This is such a cute mom and pops restaurant. It is cozy and classy with nude booths and mahogany colored chairs and tables. The restaurant has beautiful murals on the wall and the setting makes you feel right at home. 2. Food: My friend and I ordered the Chicken Iskende and Adana Kebab. The Adana Kebab was phenomenal. The meat was so tender and was perfectly seared. I highly recommend this dish. The Chicken Iskende was decent. It had bread pieces and chicken all topped by a massive bed of tomato sauce. The bread became soggy and did not taste that great. Also, a note that each dish comes with either salad or soup. 3. Service: I'm uncertain of the name of our server, but she was very nice and helpful. She did great checking on us and made sure our table was doing okay. 4. Costs: The Chicken Iskende costs $20.95 and the Adana Kebab was $15.95. The portion is quite large; however, I thought the costs were a little too expensive for the dishes. Furthermore, the Chicken Iskende should not cost that much as there were more sauce on that dish than chicken and bread combined. 5. Overall Experience: I had a great experience here and thought the food was good. I would definitely be back and try other items, but I hope that they would consider reducing their costs to fit the setting and food portion. Side Notes: N/A

Yelp
I'm so happy I finally got around to trying this spot out! They have a diverse menu, so it was difficult to choose a dish. I ended up ordering the chicken gyro lunch special. Before the meal came out, we were served delicious bread with oil and olive tapenade. I also received the Mediterranean salad which accompanied the meal I chose. Fresh and delicious! The serving portion is very generous, so I boxed up the other half. Our server was very kind and hard working. I didn't catch her name. I will definitely need to return a couple times to try out more dishes on the menu! I especially want to try out the dinner menu.

Binta B.

Yelp
Always love the food here, it's been a favorite of mine for 10 years. Try the rollas, pizzas, and seafood. The baklava is the best you will EVER have.
google avatar

Josephine M.

Yelp
RTB is always a good option for breakfast/brunch. That is the only time I can comment on, since I haven't been for lunch or dinner. The complimentary bread is really good and it comes with olive oil / dip. Last time I got the Tortilla Espanola and I added spinach and feta. It was good and you can always count on this dish being served hot. Everything else I've had here is pretty good. Service has been consistently good with only a few problems here and there. Last time I was there the service was great. Wish they would have more hot sauce choices - they only have sriracha and Tabasco. If you're in the area, it's a place to check out for sure.

Diane S.

Yelp
Service is TERRIBLE. Taking our order took a very long time but we excused that since we could tell they were busy although they seemed to have enough staff. But our food never came even after asking twice about it. We paid for our drinks and left. Wanted to tell the manager why but he saw us coming over and took off towards the back. Coward. This is the second time that service took a very long time. We will never return. Food isn't worth the frustration.

Yelp
I usually give reviews if I have actually enjoyed the restaurant and this one really deserved it. First off I love the aesthetics of the restaurant a great spot to have some brunch with friends or have a family dinner. When it comes to the food I think it checked off all the boxes for me the chicken sandwich I ordered wasn't dry and very flavorful they also offer variety of sides with your dish which I really liked definitely be returning with friends!
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
I don't usually write good reviews however, I came here the other night with my family and I and we had a server who was spectacular and her name was isabella. She was very young however very mature and my family loved her. Being around my age she was very respectful and made us feel very welcomed and will definitely be back. If you come in definitely ask for her because she is very joyful and happy and makes you really feel like you are apart of the family. I would really want her to move up in the industry if she could and will definitely recommended this place not only for the food but for the service. My family and I go to a lot of restaurants and the server has a big impact on our meal. To say the least Isabella was top notch. Will be returning for sure!

Mahir Z.

Yelp
This is a really nice place! The table was kind of sticky and not well-cleaned. But other than that everything was great. Price, servers and the treatment were amazing. The house was full, another indication that the place is a nice restaurant. All meat is halal -- another reason to be a loyalist. Plenty of parking outside and we didn't wait a lot despite being Friday night.

Tammi G.

Yelp
Catered our final pool social with over 150 wraps - AWESOME! Ready to go when we showed up and tasted amazing!

Yelp
So pleased to have stopped in to Rosemary's Thyme Bistro for lunch today. The food was delicious and our server, Jordan was incredible. We tried the Mediterranean pide on which we added grilled chicken and Rolla vegetable with chicken. We ordered practically every part of the meal on the side and Jordan was beyond accommodating every single part of the meal on the side. She did so with a smile and genuinely did not seem even remotely put out by our requests. Our food was amazing which I ALMOST never say but what really impressed me was the top of the line service from Kristen (the assistant manager) and Jordan. Well done!

Anne M.

Yelp
The best brunch around! I come here almost every weekend for their delicious coffee and breakfast menu (that they only serve on weekends.) The staff is super friendly and I love supporting a restaurant that has been in business for 25+ years. Just delicious, give it a try! (Especially the pancake platter, it's my go-to!)
