Alexandria Wine Bar Is Now Focused on Imported Bubbly - Eater DC

"Grape + Bean has a flagship location in Old Town Alexandria and a satellite location at 2 E. Walnut Street, Alexandria, Va. The flagship location has been partly transformed into Brut, while the satellite location remains unaffected by the changes." - Warren Rojas

I’ve been going to Grape + Bean since they opened their first location in Old Town. I love the coffee ☕️ - specifically the oat milk latte - from Rosemont, just like I do at Grape + Bean. All the baristas are friendly and make a mean cup, especially Tyler! I only wish there were vegan🌱 food options for breakfast and lunch. In fact, I’d love to share some ideas with your team!

The set up is ideal, the street is quiet for sitting outdoors and inside is comfortable. We only went for charcuterie and wine, so my review is based on that solely. My Temprinello was great, and they were out of the wine my wife chose. The young man working made a suggested substitution, but I think he needs more work in that area because they wine she chose and the wine he recommended are not comparable. The charcuterie was okay, but honestly there were only 3 thin sloves of each meat we chose and the bread that accompanied the charcuterie was way to think and hard, it was not very conducive to eating charcuterie.

I loved my 1pm french toast breakfast here. The french toast was the perfect consistency and tasted delicious. I sat on the patio with my dog. The very pleasant waitress gave her a dog treat and chatted with me as I was otherwise sitting alone. I loved the corner location and the ample street parking. The prices were fantastic! $10 dish and $3 coffee is the cheapest I’ve seen anywhere in a long time.

We stopped by late one afternoon for some drinks and an appetizer. Our server was great—friendly and attentive. He was an Alexandria/neighborhood native and also knew the place when it was an Asian corner market. He let us sample our drinks before committing to full pours, which was nice, as my wife’s first Rosé did not appeal to her tastes. I liked the Maine IPA. The deviled eggs were tasty and attractive (sorry, I forgot to take a pre-eating photo). I believe they had Dijon mustard in the filling and were served on a dollop of coarse-ground mustard with capers on top. I was disappointed to read the bad reviews (based principally on service), as we had the opposite experience. I hope people will give it another shot.

I don’t normally write reviews, especially negative ones, but this place was pretty terrible. Service was slow to start despite only two tables being occupied. We waited about 10-15 minutes before the waiter came over and it was only after we went back in to check if he had forgotten about us. I ordered the brisket sandwich, which was actually inedible. I tried biting into it but it was so fatty and cold, I simply couldn’t. The cheese on top was barely melted and felt waxy. I tried using a knife and fork to cut it but even that wouldn’t go through. The waiter offered to bring me something else and I chose the breakfast bagel sandwich. It felt like it had been microwaved, and only had two tiny pieces of bacon in it. Overall pretty bad experience and food

Super friendly folks running this little Cafe in town. We had a blast visiting. The white latte was a bit too sweet for my friend. But overall it was a good experience.

I live nearby and have given this place a shot many times now out of convenience, but it’s just not good. The iced coffee/lattes are perhaps the worst I have ever experienced. Service is normally pretty terrible. I wish it was better because the location and set up is great!!

I want to love this place so much. I live in the neighborhood and it would be so nice if it felt more welcoming or had better offerings. Baked goods in the mornings taste stale and are overpriced, service isn’t friendly, there’s no stroller or wheelchair-friendly entrance, the whole place smells like caustic cleaning spray, and the checkout computer auto-defaults to providing a tip, so unless you're paying close attention you’re stuck with that extra add-on just for buying a croissant. I will give them kudos for extending their hours from what they used to be. Can’t tell you the number of times I used to walk by for a glass of wine only to find them closed. ** I came back and changed this to a 1 star review. I thought maybe I'd been too harsh, so I gave it another shot and the service was even worse than before- and I was the only customer there, so it wasn't due to busy-ness. To top it off, the computer no longer tells you your total, and the workers don't verbally provide it- they just tell you to swipe your card. So you have to proactively ask how much you're being charged. Please, please get new management at this place. If it were nice, I would spend a fortune here.

Yelp
The sign outside still says Grape and Bean, but as of June 2024 they've transitions to Rosemont Cellar. That said, it doesn't seem a lot has changed, and that's a good thing because this location has been doing things great for a while now. I came for breakfast and got a breakfast sandwich and coffee. The barista seemed to know his customers well since he was joking with a few of them. So 'local hangout vibe' - check. My meal was good, even if he forgot to ask if I was staying or this was to-go. So initially he gave me everything to-go but gave me a real plate when I asked for one. I perused the wines selection and discovered there's not as much Virginia wine as their used to be. Hopefully that might just be because the current inventory was low. I'll have to come back to see if they've changed their options. Overall, it a nice visit and worth a repeat, especially for lunch and/or a glass of wine.
