Roseville Theatre Arts Academy

This little theatre is amazing. We just love the staff, the interns and the shows. My eldest daughter started in the 'little ones' program when she was 4 years old and just completed her 6th performance. I have seen her confidence blossom and she 'directs' her sister in her own plays at home. My youngest (now 4) has a physical disability and just completed her first performance. The staff did not hesitate to include her. From making sure she had accessible seats to ensuring she could get on and off the stage safely. I couldn't be happier with the inclusivity at RTAA.

Attended the Craig Shoemaker comedy show last Friday night. It is a very unique and well maintained old style theatre with period dated seats and amenities. They have a bar with assorted drinks and snacks to enjoy prior to the show and the City has provided lots of spirited staff to host the open area in and around the bar and with your seating as well. Pretty well done and reasonably priced. Excellent close-by 7 story parking garage for easy access to the theater venue. Safe and clean - no bums and drunks or graffiti around.

I love this theater. Years ago, my daughter played in several children's plays here. She loved the experience. A lot of hard work goes in these plays! Now I take my 9yr old granddaughter to watch the plays. I'm hoping she gets the acting bug! The theater teaches so many social skills and boosts confidence.

This is a great theater academy for all ages. My kids really enjoy the workshops, but they have production opportunities for all ages and experience.

Roseville Theatre Arts Academy was recommended to me by a good friend of ours. She new that our girls were filled with so much character and sass. They said "try it at least once and see if the girls like it". Well, it's been two years and my girls love it. The girls rave on how awesome all the directors are. They are so inspired by them. This is just the type of environment I want my girls to be in. They love the singing, acting and their scripts. Most of all they love when family and friends come out to watch their performances. They are all too cute!

Our family came for a family-friendly show, discovered the summer camps and community show opportunities for kids, and 'stayed' for the incredibly supportive environment in which the kids are taught to give their all and believe in themselves and each other. This place is an incredible resource for our community and truly a labor of love by the staff and volunteers who make it possible.

Such a gem of a place! I took one of my gfs here to see a show and we had such a blast! We had no idea it was a children’s theatre and really enjoyed seeing all the children perform. They were all so talented and enthusiastic. I loved the set and the costumes. It really was such a wholesome experience and I can’t wait to continue supporting the theatre and attending more shows in the future.

Great theater program and amazing staff. Glad to support a great local small business. Great scenery while you wait for your actors and actresses.

This was a very nice Theatre. My nieces had a performance here. They have street parking and a free parking garage right next to the theater. I bought my ticket online and got to pick out my seat. I don't recommend the seat I got. It's at the very top next to a wall. I thought it would be more open. They did have a snack bar. The theater was very clean and the staff were really nice.

What a fun community theater with excellent productions! Our son came here on a field trip and to our surprise could not stop talking about the play he saw. So we came to a matinee showing of The Wizard of Oz a couple months later, and he loved that as well!! We now plan to go every month when they have a production! Super cute theater with a great community feel- no bad seat in the house! They have a snack bar at intermission. What a fantastically talented group of hard working people in our community. We look forward to supporting. Bravo!

While driving through Roseville, my daughter and I noticed a poster for Tarzan the Musicsal. We bought tickets for Sunday's maintee, and had lunch nearby before hand. The theatre had parking behind and it was well attended. The theatre was similar to a movie theatre, from the 80's. She was impressed by the production having been involved with children's theatre in the past.

My son had a field trip to the Roseville theater I signed up to help out and enjoy the field trip with my son! I had never been to the Roseville theater before it was pretty nice to check it out. I love older buildings, so walking into this building was exciting for me to look at everything, the decor that older feel ! The play we watch was called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day! The play was excellent. The performance was beyond good all the kids loved it . I really enjoyed also . The singing and the acting was very good for a small theater in Roseville. They are very talented. On the way out I seen that they have more plays coming like a SpongeBob musical .I would definitely want to come back with my other son and my husband to check it out. I seen that they had a snack bar. It was not open at the time of the field trip but I'm assuming it is for regular plays so that would be nice to check out. . Overall, it was a fun time. My son had never been to a theater or seen a play before, so it was fun to experience that with him.! I would like to come back and enjoy with the rest of my family and try out the food. They have their maybe grab a glass of wine and watch something. Everyone there is very talented. I enjoyed it.

I've been doing shows since I was about 11, and it's amazing! I was very into theater as a younger kid, but never had anywhere I could do it except perform little plays at school with my friends! The work shops are super fun, when you start out younger you usually have less lines, but they do give the kid fun songs and lines to do! The directors are usually very fun and include everyone! The interns are probably one of the best parts for me, as it's easy to make friends with them, and they help out a lot. The guest artists are also very supportive and fun, every youth shows i've been in, i've always been best friends with the guest artists. The other categories are also very fun, YBP and Masters! Those are a lot of fun, no matter your role! I've also watched a couple shows here, and their a bunch of fun!

Fantastic production! Looking forward to attending future shows. Adorable theater and everyone was friendly. The bathrooms were clean. Concessions had few treats and beverages. Definitely eat before you go! Such a funny and entertaining evening plus parking is free!

I was very disappointed over a decade ago when I first auditioned here when they were holding auditions for Les Miserables, a show I adore with my hearts desire and have been wanting to do forever. It didn't turn out that way, because the director played favoritism and wanted their actors in the show, instead of someone like me. Since then, I've scoffed at this place, due to my disappointing experience and will never return. I cannot in the life of me recommend this theater to anyone.

We have gone to several plays. I normally buy the tickets and take all 6 of my grandkids if they are available to go. We have tickets for Footloose this weekend, I am looking forward to it!

Saw the SpongeBob musical with my family and it was a terrific performance, we had great seats and no problems with view. The seats are a bit narrow and uncomfortable but overall it was a terrific experience.

This is an amazing community theater with so many great programs for young children to participate in and build confidence. The adult performances are great too

Update of nine hundred seventy seven of updated comments September 13, 2021. Previous has twenty one votes. Yesterday there are two of us. We saw Freaky Friday The Musical. This seems be a teaching theater. Even our usher, she was maybe ten years old, she showed us to our seats B 104 and B 106. The cast members are various ages. Some played one character. Some such as the one that played the Reverend, he played three different characters. There is a small snack bar but we did not buy anything. What a fun theater. I wish all the employees best of luck. I wish all the cast members best of luck. I wish all the volunteers best of luck.

We enrolled our 10 year old daughter there in March for the play "The Sweet Saga of Hannah Sue" at the cost of almost $300. So we paid, then the first day they went over the play but didn't assign roles. Jennifer Vaughn was the program director. The roles were assigned at the next session the following week. (No refunds after the first class by the way). The second week, out of about 50 actors the theatre assigned our daughter the least amount of words ( since they consider her saying , "Yah!" 7 times 7 speaking lines) as though she is not capable of learning well structured discernible lines. Even then the first and second graders had more well constructed lines put together. We were stunned. What surprised us even more was the fact that the program director, Jennifer, and the executive director, Megan Lewis, failed to see the optics of assigning the worst role to the ONLY black kid when we brought this to their attention. Deep down, we hope this was not overt, but rather unconscious bias (Not that it makes it ok). Anyway, we went back and forth with them via email to no avail. We decided we didn't want our daughter exposed to this kind of environment and therefore requested a refund. Megan promptly referred us to their refund policy. At that point we told them to consider that $300 to our contribution to the arts. We pulled our daughter out, and we will never use them again. The selection and role assignment are VERY subjective. I wouldn't recommend this place, especially if you have a black, or minority child. They'll end up with wallflower parts. We wanted the theatre to see the incident as a teachable moment so that all kids are given the same opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive but their reaction was defensiveness.

Saw Peter Pan on Sept. 22 and it was fabulous. Very talented actors, singers and dancers. Really enjoyed the show! Looking forward to attending more plays!

This is such a wonderful community space!!!! We loved our visit and can't wait to go to another show. The kids really give it there all in this space. A super friendly way to introduce a younger kid to the theater experience. Fun family-friendly shoes that everyone young and old can enjoy. While I can't speak for the lessons or workshops here, I can't wait to return with my kiddo who fell in love with theater at the Charlie Brown Christmas Carol production!

This is a great jewel in Roseville's crown. I enjoyed performing arts while growing up and having the ability to bring my young son to performances here and see everything anew through his eyes is a feeling I didnt expect. He quietly sits in awe through performances (no small task for him) and races out afterwards to meet and take pictures with the performers (he calls characters). The performances are high quality and are deserving of our support.

What a great place! It can be a little tricky to find parking but not a big deal. Our daughter started theatre here a few months ago and loves attending every week. Reasonable tuition and good location. Very friendly staff - Jennifer, Colton, Topeka, Jake and Michael. The theatre itself is clean and charming. Loved the live music at the show. Professional and organized. Great snack bar with lots of options at intermission!

I've always loved Roseville Theatre Arts Academy! I'll continue to volunteer here as long as I live in Roseville!

I highly recommend RTAA not just for their amazing shows and beautiful theater, but for their incredible staff. If you have a child age four or older who loves to sing and dance, bring them to a show and then then sign them up for a workshop! The skills they learn will stay with them for life, they'll make amazing friends and as a parent it's so fun to watch.

My child is in the little ones group. Practice is one day a week for an hour. The last 15 minutes parents/family are allowed to go back in and watch what the kids have been working on. The challenging thing is I don't feel like the group that worked with our kids really enjoy working with children. There were many eye rolls and snarky comments anytime anyone would ask a question about literally anything. I don't think it is right to not answer questions and rudely reply it is all in the pamphlet we gave you in the beginning or online. It is unprofessional and simply unkind. Especially, when people are here for the first time with questions about tech week. It is unfortunate that what could have been all around a beautiful experience has been tarnished by sulky behavior. I have heard many other parents, including after last nights performance, saying that their kids will never be enrolled here again because of these factors. Hope change can come about and this issues can be corrected.

This is a great place for family fun both as a patron and an actor. The staff is amazing Jennifer, Michelle and Colton. Always helpful and smiling. The kids that act are really amazing and love the staff and learn a lot. Great camps and programs for the kids and they have a wide variety of great shows year round. Drowsy Chaperone coming soon and it's amazing. Get your tickets at the Theatre and online from the website. You will not regret bringing your kids or seeing the show yourself. Great community opportunities and fun await! And get some yummy treats from the snack bar too.

I have nothing against an old theater with charm. I love The Crest. This place, however, is in desperate need of renovations. Everything about it felt rundown. The seats, the stage, the lighting, the foyer -- everything. It was like being transported back in time, and not in a good, nostalgic-sort-of-way. You know how theaters give name plaques on the seats to top donators? Well, note to Roseville Theatre, you did it wrong! Instead of cutting out a little place for each plaque to lie flush within the top of each armrest (as every other theater does), they just screwed each plaque right on top of the armrest, and didn't even use flat screws. In effect, they ruined every armrest with plaques that not only jut out from the wood, but also have screws jutting out of them. Basically, you have to hold your arms in your lap if you don't like metal poking into your skin. This is uncomfortable during a long performance. Really, really uncomfortable. Parking is very limited, but old Roseville does have a free parking garage nearby. On the plus side, the view was from our lower-level seats was decent. Maybe a good performance helps balance out the rundown theater. I saw a cringe-worthy performance -- the kind that gives you secondhand embarrassment for the actors and director -- so I couldn't say.

Most local Rosevillians remember the Magic Circle Theater which was in the Roseville Theater on Vernon Street for over 20 years. In December of 2010 Magic Circle (which had changed it's name to Civic Theater West) ceased operations having run out of options financially. Shortly after they closed, a few employees form that organization decided to start their own program and were able to get back into the Roseville Theater. The new theater company calls itself the Roseville Theater Arts Academy (RTAA). RTAA has a number of programs including workshop shows for elementary and middle school aged kids, Master's productions for high-schoolers and they put on adult shows from time to time (I don't mean "adult" in the provocative sense...but that adult actors are in the shows). The primary focus of RTAA is education and instruction of children...they call themselves a children's theater. They also recently opened up an academy style school offering dance, vocal and acting lessons given by professionals. I have personally been involved with the theater for over 10 years and I'm impressed by the quality of the productions and education they provide. They offer a unique theatrical experience and education for youth. Each child is given a speaking part, and there are no auditions for the workshop shows. They believe in letting each student have a moment to shine, something we rarely see in a world of fierce competition. It's amazing the results they achieve without putting pressure to perform or keep your spot on stage. The instructors are very welcoming and soon even children who I might describe as "socially awkward" have found a home and friendship in the theater. The environment is so positive and uplifting...it's really a unique educational experience. Lastly, their programs are inexpensive to attend or participate in. As a non-profit, I know they are committed to keeping costs as low as possible while maintaining top notch instruction. I regularly attend shows at RTAA and when my children are old enough they will be on stage as well!

Amazing theatre with fantastic talent! My son just finished a two week long camp and loved every minute. They ended the camp with their own show and it was one of the best children's shows I've seen in a long time. Michelle, Jennifer and Colton are all fantastic with the kids and my son has learned so much the past two weeks. I highly recommend your child to take any of their camps or join any of their workshops. Love them!!!

Every other weekend I take care a Roseville resident who is mentally and physically handicapped. We try to find things for him to do out in the community. Today we went to see a production of School House Rock. It was low keyed and amazingly well done. We had a blast! Looking forward to Les Miserables in March.

The best youth theatre production company, with the lowest tuition and no mandatory parent hours. The parents help because they want to be there. RTAA appreciates their volunteers. Every show is amazing. LIVE music and professional from the start. The children do not peek out the the curtain or wave to their parents during a performance. The main stage shows are Broadway quality at a fraction of the price. Free parking. Every age is respected and guided toward the next level. Although only bottled water is allowed inside the theatre, it helps keep this 1920's landmark clean and beautiful.

I enjoyed myself at the RTAA last night with a production of Rumors by Neil Simon. I had not been here in years. They have an active group of actors who present various plays and musicals during the year. the theater used to be a movie house many years ago on Vernon Street. They have a café inside too and they do serve wine. The theater is beautifully restored and updated. without losing its old time flavor. the play is self was very enjoyable and the actors were able to be heard throughout. I will be going to more productions in the future. Its wonderful to have a group like this in Roseville. Parking if on the street of in the back lot or right down the block in covered lighted parking area. It was all good!!

REVIEW: Wednesday has a new love interest in Roseville Theatre Arts Academy's production of "The Addams Family." Well-choreographed and well-rehearsed dances, witty lyrics and dialogue introduce the audience to Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandma, Uncle Fester, Lurch the butler and a ghostly chorus of deceased ancestors. Despite being broken up by a plethora of irksome 80s-style video interview sequences which make the play a little too long, "The Addams Family" is thoroughly entertaining and fun for all. Three thumbs up!

Went to see Elf today with my three children (ages 5,9,11) and it was wonderful!! Very entertaining for the children. Everything was easy and quick ( tickets, parking, snack bar). We will definitely be back!! Thanks for providing such a fun and affordable place for families.

Another successful experience with my daughter for Annie. The vocals are still the most impressive. The only con is the parking and snack bar.. We gave up waiting to get a snack because it took too long, unfortunately.

What a history, what a lot of work, what talent!!!! I love this theatre! The people are so enthusiastic at what they are doing. So many of the kids that grew up here have gone on to do movies and Broadway. Talent flows corner to corner The place runs on volunteer power so if ya don't like what ya see, stop whining and get in there and make a difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely LOVE this theater! It has primo performances, personable people, and pleasurable presence. Can't wait for the next performance!

RTAA is a great place to go see community theatre. My family and I have seen a handful of shows and they have all been very entertaining. They were well rehearsed and the actors are professional. The theatre itself is very comfortable and they sell yummy snacks at intermission. We always look forward to what show is coming next. Give them a try, they are so much fun!

My daughter's been involved with RTAA (and its previous names--all under the loving and professional supervision of overall "Mom" and musical director Jennifer Vaughn, acting coach/teacher/director Michelle Raskey and dance instructor/choreographer Stephen Hatcher) for nearly 7 years--she's 13 now. She loves it as a "youth" (what they call the 7-14 year olds), and she loves it as a new teenager. They have a great master's program for teenagers. The master's program takes everything up several notches--the kids have to audition, and they get professional-level coaching for voice, dance and acting. The program also has a very strong culture of love, support and acceptance among the cast. It's beautiful to see the older youth grow up and turn around to mentor the younger ones. Michelle Raskey's annual Shakespeare workshops are amazing. They're a great opportunity for students who want to learn the classics and get professional-level teaching in Shakespeare and acting, and who may not like to sing and dance in the other musical theater shows. Oh, and they have a very fun "show choir" for adults! I can't say enough about what RTAA means to our daughter and our family.

I took my kids here today to the show Princess and the Pea. It said it was for ages 3-6 and my kids are ages 3-7. We were excepting a play with a story line and many actors. This was not the case their was four actors in the play and it was all improv so it was hard to follow the story and understand what was going on. The characters all spoke extremely fast. My kids were disappointed and it was not really holding their attention. Most of the jokes were for the adults. I did like that they got the kids up and dancing and particapting in the play. They also asked for volunteers to come up on stage and help. There was a quick intermission to get cookies however we were second to last in line and the kids werent able to finish theirs. Im am glad there are still places like this to go to it just was not at all what we were expecting. It was also 10$ a person I thought this was way over priced for this show. We probably wont be going back.

Will sell you drinks and food that you can't even bring into the theater. Lame! But it is a cool old theater doing neat plays! The tickets are afforable and the talent is huge! It's a must for a humble, fun date night!

One of the places that makes Roseville special. Amazing staff, great programs for the kids and wonderful productions. Roseville also has the nicest and coolest community theater venue in the region.

Average performances. It's clean and more kid oriented. A lot of the same people over and over.

This amazing theatre has been through so much, reinvented itself many times and never ceases to amaze me with the quality performances. I enjoy taking my family to see the wide range of shows This Roseville Theatre provides. The volunteers are committed to helping with all aspects it seems. It is truly a magnificent theatre rich in its history, not to be missed!!!

To start things off I have always enjoyed RTAA and continue to adore the productions and staff everytime I enter those glass doors. I have been in several productions all put on beautifully by the casts. As well as seeing many masters, treehouses, and mainstage all put on amazingly! I think people should definetly come see shows because of the actors talent of bringing them alive. However, being in the shows is different. My experiences during my last show in the dressing room, with my cast, were not pleasant. I am shocked that these actors behave in such childish "drama" and cannot belive that these young adults are getting away with such things. I really wish there was an adult/parent monitoring backstage I think that would help a lot. Also, favortism is a big issue and I will not stand for it. I have dealt with it several times and it is not fun to be around and to watch. I seen many talented actors working very hard to get several parts but then later see being played by some one who has been kissing up to the director. Otherwise, keep up the fabulous work and cannot wait to come back to see another production.
