Nashville Dining Experts Name Their Best Meals of 2021 | Eater Nashville

"Run by husband-and-wife chefs Andy Hayes and Beth Owens in Hendersonville, Rosie Food+Wine is doing beautiful work; a spring tasting I had included grilled octopus on potato purée with pimentón and Spanish olive oil, ricotta-stuffed ravioli with green ramp pesto surrounded by asparagus tips and English peas, maple-sumac–glazed pork belly with beets, sugar snaps and strawberries, and a strawberry budino — a thoughtful, well-executed menu of bright, composed dishes." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Shorts ribs, Brussels sprouts, crispy polenta, butter lettuce salad, and Parillada Del Mar were delicious. The Pavlova was too crispy. I like it crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Table are very close together. You can definitely hear conversations on both sides of you.

This was our other choice for our anniversary dinner but we chose another, so a few days later the kids were buys with sports or whatever and we got to go on a whim as we were down the street. We did not have reservations (it would have been past 9 for dinner, so no thank you), but we were able to walk in and find a seat at the bar. The service was great and spot on. The decor, noise level and everything about this place is top notch. We had the lower bar seats right next to the kitchen window and watching the staff work together and get food out was nothing short of a well balanced symphony. My wife had the Ricotta Gnocchi with sherry glazed Brussel Sprouts and I had the Pork Chops and all of it was incredible. We will definitely be back, as I heard they update and change their menu here and there for new market items.

Rosie Food & Wine is one of our favorite local restaurants! We had dinner there last night and had a great experience. It was busy, but that did not affect our experience. Our server was very attentive, nice, and helpful with the menu. Our food was delicious, and we loved every item that he recommended! I highly recommend Rosie Food & Wine, and I look forward to dining here again!

Vibe: a "trendy" nicely decorated place that takes reservations but also can walk in. Service: Zero complaints. LOVED our waiter. So attentive but not in an annoying way. Sadly I forgot his name. Food: Everything we had I'd come back for. Love that they make the gnocchi  in house. The menu does change, but we had smoked trout dip, gnocchi Mac & cheese (very rich), beef short rib gnocchi (I wish they had bread for me to soak up the broth with. Get the full size as it's not too big), and King salmon. All of the drinks were good, just a preference thing: Sarah Smile (if you like sweet, this is your drink); Bat out of hell (you'll taste the absinthe); More than a Feeling requested it with vodka and although it has a lot of flavors going on, it somehow works and nothing is over powering.; War Pigs (the smoked maple is fairly light in the taste). Shown in pictures is the trout dip and the More than a Feeling drink.

Google
Always a fantastic meal at Rosie. We were a party of 8 and had many of our favorites. Started with shishito peppers and salads. We had braised lamb gnocchi, black fettuccine, spicy rigatoni and butternut squash ravioli. Very creative cocktails and delicious menu. Purple rain and Passion of the spice were 2 favorite cocktails. Great wine list too. Peanut butter pie to round out the evening. Worth the drive from south Nashville every time!

Google
Drinks were excellent, food was amazing! Waitress was great, attentive. Only problem I had was it being so loud,( which I'm assuming is from the building echo)but once a couple of tables left, it corrected. Also our table was extremely out of level, even after a triple folded menu. After all that..... I'd return without a doubt, it's that good

Google
It is always a good time at a table full of fun friends, but the food at tonight's dinner was incredible. We started with a smoked trout dip for the table, and it was exceptional. Each couple shared salads, and they were delicious. We recommend the following entrees: salmon, quail, red grouper, blueberry lasagna, and spicy rigatoni. We recommend the following desserts: lemon dessert, rice pudding, and dark chocolate mousse. There was an excellent wine selection and beverages for every flavor. I did wish there were a few more non-alcoholic mocktail selections for those not imbibing.

Sonya S.

Google
Edited to add text and pic after another visit I ate the heirloom tomato and peach panzanella too fast to even think about getting a picture. I had already started scarfing down the blueberry lasagna when I remembered to pause. There wasn’t a crumb left by the end! Who knew these food combinations could be so amazing?! These paired with the wine flight were perfection! Had I had any room for dessert, the peach pavlova would have been my choice.

Yelp
Food and service are excellent. Our go to, to unwind after a long week of work. The bartender is amazing, his drinks are a home run every time. The only downside is that the dining area is very open, and people's voices tend to echo through the place making it very noisy.
google avatar

Marianne K.

Yelp
Food was fabulous! We enjoyed the steelhead trout and spicy ziti. Can't wait to go back and try some of their other entrees.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Food was incredible! Cooked perfect! Loved that they had half portion options! My watermelon cocktail was delish and strong! Perfect girls night spot! Def will be back! Service was friendly

Yelp
Visited last month for my mom's birthday, and I can't tell you how much I love this place! The decor is a perfect mix of cute and modern. But heads up, it gets packed so RSVP if you can! We kicked things off with a few drinks--my mom had their margarita, while I opted for a lavender and lemon mocktail. Even in winter, it was so refreshing and delicious! For our appetizer, we had the burrata, which was fresh and creamy as always. Loved the touch of seeds on top, adding just the right amount of texture to the dish. Their menu changes within the seasons -for references, we went during the winter-. For our mains, we shared a few dishes, the broccoli risotto and the duck fettuccine--everything was perfectly cooked and flavorful. And of course, what's a birthday without dessert? We ordered their cheesecake, and oh my god--chef's kiss! Absolutely yummy. Such a gem to have in Hendersonville! Can't wait to go back

Yelp
So great. My wife and I moved to Hendersonville from Oklahoma 2 weeks ago. Instead of going g to downtown Nashville, we decided to drive 5 minutes from our home and hit up Rosie. And I'm so glad we did. The restaurant itself is comfortable upscale. While the ambiance was really nice, we never felt out of place with our normal Saturday attire. But the food?? Wow! I ordered there out and my wife had the chicken. Both dishes were out of this world. The quality of the food and the preparation made it feel like we needed to be celebrating a holiday. Mine came with the best spaghetti squash I had ever eaten while my wife's included broccolini. I am not one to clean my plate especially with today's portions, but this plate was super clean. The portions are perfect. Enough without being too little or too much. We will be back regularly to this gem.

PJ A.

Yelp
Wow experience for sure. When I walked in I asked if I had a reservation. I did not, in fact, I had no idea I needed one. I was seated quickly and greeted by Stephanie. She was very knowledgeable about the menu items. I was pleasantly surprised that she even suggested the half portion option of my entree. I chose Spaghetti Bolognese and added a side of the gnocchi Mac and cheese! Perfect portions . I was craving the gnocchi and it did not disappoint! Definitely will bring friends here for a nice dinner
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
Food and drinks were delicious and our server was great! Make sure you make a reservation even mid week. I hear they have a great trout dip!

Anne Clair H.

Yelp
My husband and I love Rosie for date night. It's a great cozy spot, the staff is so warm and knowledgeable and the food is consistently good every time we come here. Last night we started with the octopus. Unreal. I had two half pastas (Black Fettuccine and Saffron Risotto.) The Fettuccine was so delicious. So savory and rich but not heavy. The Saffron Risotto was a great mix of textures with the soft lamb and the marcona almonds. My husband got the Quail Fideos. Wow. That stole the show and I may sneak back for another round of that! Things we come back for are the gnocchi Mac side, Brussel Sprouts side and the Coal Roasted Shrimp app. Thanks for a great night!

Yelp
I wasn't sure if it would be hard to get into this place so I showed up right after opening at 4:00. No problem getting 2 seats at the bar. The wine flight was good, and heavy pours for $15 for 3 wines. The trout dip was yummy and had the perfect amount of bread with it. The spicy rigatoni 10/10, it was so flavorful. The short rib gnocchi was my second favorite, the flavors together were incredible. The black fettucine was a 2/10. The sauce on it was just not it, it splashed everywhere, the lobster pieces on it were rubbery, and the flavor was like leather. I would not order that dish again and I'm glad I only had a half order. I will be back to try more things because it was very good! Service was quick as well. Perfect for a date night or with a group of friends.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! The service is phenomenal with great recommendations. Our dinner and appetizers were excellent. Thank you for a wonderful experience each of the tunes I have been here.

Yelp
I have been to Rosie's a few times and I feel like it gets better every time I go. The service is always amazing. Everyone is attentive and takes great care of us. We have never had an issue of needing a drink or looking everywhere for our server. Starters: Grilled Shrimp al Ajillo - The shrimp is huge and the taste is so fresh. The crostini is amazing and perfectly crisp. We can eat this all day! Entrees: Halibut - I am addicted. This is the meal that has me coming back over and over again. It's is perfectly seared with a nice crust. It's full of flavor, but not overpowering... you can still taste the fish. Honestly, just order this. You will not be disappointed! Spaghetti Bolognese- Great portion size. The taste of the fresh noodles is the star of the show. The sauce is also amazing. This is just a simple amazing dish done extremely well! The restaurant is always clean, dimly lit and very inviting. Somehow we always get sat at the same exact table and we love it at this point.

Yelp
There's a reason you have to reserve a table days ahead of time on weekends. The food and service are top notch, and it's a great atmosphere!

Hannah S.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Hendersonville and maybe even Nashville too! The food is amazing. The ambiance is so cute. It can get a little bit loud sometimes, but it is so worth it. The service has also been phenomenal. We have had Alexa every time we've been and she's the best! Highly recommend the butter lettuce salad, the Rosie chicken, and the flank steak. You've also got to try the blueberry lasagne! But I have loved everything on the menu so far that I've tried

Evan L.

Yelp
We celebrated Valentine's Day here last night, and it was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The menu was so intriguing that we each ordered something from the appetizer, pasta, and dessert sections. Everything was absolutely delicious, especially the croquetas, risotto, and cheesecake. From time to time, Chef Andy would come around to check on us, and he would even tell us a little history about the food we had chosen. It was probably the best dining experience I have ever had.
google avatar

Cindy B.

Yelp
Rosie's is one of the most loved restaurants in the Hendersonville area. Their menu is amazing, and the staff is very helpful. Make a reservation in this quaint restaurant and treat yourself; you won't be disappointed.

Osamu D.

Yelp
The ambiance is ok, but the food was good. I've been a couple times and can say they have great desserts, and definitely try the blueberry lasagna.
google avatar

Yelp
This was the best Italian meal I've had in this part of town. Everything is made in house and well prepared. Nicely presented. We had a full meal with appetizer, pasta and desert. I had the fettuccine. The chorizo adds spice to the sauce but it overwhelms the shrimp and lobster. I would get this dish with just chorizo. Particularly liked the trout dip appetizer. The spiced pear pavlova was nice finish. I had chosen a rioja for the meal and it was a nice pairing. As to the atmosphere, there is no demarkation between the bar the dining area. If the bar gets crowded, individuals back up into the tables. Definite downer, so it may be necessary to refuse a table. Others have noted the lack of sound deadening paterials in the space and I does get loud. The staff follows the trend of not being uniformed, it works but you may wonder why a particular person is coming to your table.

Marcus B.

Yelp
Absolutely above and beyond our expectations in every way! Yes we made a reservation and were seated almost immediately upon arrival on a Friday night 10 mins prior to our actual reservation. This isn't the type place you wear a ball cap too! Our hostess was knowledgeable with great recommendations on both food and drinks. We will definitely return! Clean environment and restroom's with a professional kitchen and staff!
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
Food was fantastic. Drinks were amazingly prepared. Ambiance was calm, more intimate. It's packed so reservations are suggested. Even for the bar dining, we had to wait about 30 minutes, but was able to sit in comfy chairs and have a cocktail while waiting. The bartender (forgot his name, but he looks like Tyler Labine) was the best! If I lived here, this would be a place I put in the rotation. I was impressed

Paul B.

Yelp
Sat outside! It was all perfect! The food, service, wine. Pasta bolognese was fantastic! The service all around me was flawless! I'm coming back tomorrow night!
google avatar

Jamie P.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic little place. Don't let the location in a small strip mall deter you. We had the blueberry lasagna (ask your server for deets-I was skeptical until he explained it) and the filet of ribeye. Both were exquisite. Finished off our meal with a wonderful cheesecake. Our server was attentive and very helpful with recommendations. I would recommend making reservations as the place is small. It can also get a little loud, but it won't stop us from coming back!
google avatar

Steve E.

Yelp
I almost want to keep this a secret. Best food in all of Hendersonville and surrounding cities. The service is great and the bar tenders know their craft. The dress code is that of a high end steakhouse, but my wife and I have gone in sweatshirts. Really friendly atmosphere. Make sure to get a reservation. If none available, try the full service bar.
google avatar

Paige M.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere! It's nice to have somewhere to have good wine in Hendersonville !
google avatar

Tracy G.

Yelp
The food and wine are excellent. I highly recommend the blueberry lasagna. The wine flights are amazing and the service is always great!!

Yelp
Super amazing place, the lighting is very romantic. Our server was very kind and helpful. I can not wait to go back and this be my every weekend kind of spot. Chile's as an appetizer was good, oh and best wine so far.
google avatar

Kyle K.

Yelp
Favorite date night spot! Love the environment at the bar. Best cocktail, dishes to share and the steaks here are always amazing.

Tracy W.

Yelp
I always have an amazing time at Rosie's! Food always hits the spot. And service is great. Wine recommendations is always good. Got introduced to my favorite wine there.

Yelp
Lisa is 6 for 6 with her guidance. Anybody needing help finding anything in the Nashville area should be so lucky to have her as a friend. Now for the review. Lisa suggested a round of appetizers including: Burrata, wonderful potatoes with flavor explosion build in, crispy brussle sprouts that make the weirdly funky veggie into a crunchy yummifing snack, and finally the whitefish spread was creamy and delicious with smokey punch. Spread was served with homemade crusty bread for dipping. Mains: I had the short rib on amazing mashed and holy moly, it was delicious . Can't miss with this dish. Trust your fellow yelper on this. Even Lisa agreed! Homemade blueberry lasagna with beschamel was order by all 3 lovely ladies including Lisa, Debbie, and Marla. Although it's not my thing, they all cleaned their plates which tells me it was Worth It! Others enjoyed pastas and such which went down like white on rice. Everyone was raving and we even had the corner round table which makes this yelper a happy camper. When In the Nashville burbs, don't miss this awesome place.

Yelp
This was my first visit here and the whole family came. It was nice but very loud. If they had sound absorbing panels that would help a lot. It is kid friendly. Air conditioning was broken but it wasn't bad. The food had flavor. If you have food allergies call ahead and see if they'll accommodate you. Not many vegan options. I had a peach salad (very small, 4 bits and gone), the only other dish I could have was a spaghetti dish. They cut the spaghetti so it was difficult to eat and it had a lot of liquid. Maybe it was supposed to be soup but I was given a fork not spoon. Also, my pasta was half as much as other folks pasta dishes. I went away hungry. But everyone else was able to share bits if they're dishes and seemed to enjoy them. I'm glad. Maybe I'll give it another try in the fall. Oh and parking is full.

Yelp
Had a reservation but the diners before us weren't leaving, so we sat at the lower bar area while waiting. We decided to stay and eat there. The atmosphere is cute - our first time there and it was open and nice but not too loud. The manager was so nice and attentive welcoming us as first timers. Bartended Ryan was also super nice and never made us feel rushed. I like Sauv by the glass and they didn't have much but that's ok. I just didn't want to order a bottle to drink alone. For dinner we shared the Brussels sprouts which were amazing ( tasted fried but super flavorful) and I ordered blueberry lasagna and he ordered the short ribs. Blueberry lasagna was filled with meaty mushrooms and cheese. I loved it and pretty much polished it off. BF are ally enjoyed his short ribs that were cooked perfectly. We would def go back! ( not inexpensive so maybe once a month for the budget conscious!)
google avatar

Reyn R.

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner al fresco on a Wednesday evening. Our waiter was excellent, kind and knew the menu. We enjoyed the trout dip, Brussels sprouts, pasta and short ribs and wine. We finished it all off with a dark chocolate mouse that was also delicious. All our plates were flavorful and delicious. I LOVE THAT THEY HAVE NO TVS! Just a nice clean, modern space with a bar and dining. Looking forward to our next dining experience.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Awesome experience and meal. Food each dish was served with good timing, hot and delicious. Service was great, prices were reasonable. A little noisy but the service and meal made up for the noise.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Great service. Food was fantastic and very fresh. Small venue. Reservations are suggested on the weekends. You could always try for a spot at the bar. Small happy hour with beer, wine, 1 snack from 4-6pm.
google avatar

Denise H.

Yelp
The food was exquisite. I had the boneless ribeye steak and it was cooked to perfection. My friend had the grilled chicken dinner and the chicken was amazing and moist. The only issue we had was with the hostess that asked if we had reservations and we didn't. She said there would be an 11/2 hour wait to get a table unless we wanted to dine on the patio. Our other option was to dine at the bar. We really felt she didn't want us there because there was an abundance of empty tables at 5pm. We chose to sit at the bar and dine The bartender was very attentive and took care of us right away. The atmosphere of the room was warm and serene. We will definitely be going back with or without reservations.

Kj L.

Yelp
We had a group of 6 from 6 states and all agreed this was simply a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious and creative and the service impeccable. Highly recommend. 5+ stars! I hope you come back!

Joni K.

Yelp
The food at Rosie is always great. I love that they have octopus on the menu, and though it sounds strange, the blueberry lasagna is amazing. The restaurant is a little dark for my taste, and the tables too cramped. It feels like I'm sharing a meal with my neighbors. Maybe people from bigger cities are OK with that. I'm not very comfortable with it. The servers are well-trained, attentive and helpful.

Hannah W.

Yelp
My new favorite restaurant in Hendersonville! Every dish we tried was spot on!! So many unique pairings that I would've never put together. We ordered a few appetizers and shared small portions of the pasta. It was the perfect amount of food for two. I already have my next reservation.
google avatar

Isabelle M.

Yelp
So glad to find a unique restaurant amongst all the chains in Hendersonville... and a great one at that! The food and service are wonderful -- it's become super popping so even on a weeknight you might be better off making a reservation so you get a table!
google avatar

Drew M.

Yelp
My newly-found go-to in Hendersonville. Stumbled across this place accidentally while getting a haircut next door, lol. - Atmosphere - casual, comfortable & clean - Service - has been exceptional both visits - Food - delicious. I enjoyed the spicy rigatoni so much I ordered it both times I especially appreciate the fact their pasta entrees are available in two sizes. Nothing but good things to say about Rosie!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
I've been here a number of times and have always had a very good experience. I really like the food options. They always come out the perfect temperature and very tasty. The servers are very knowledgeable and attentive. Not a big fan of the ambience but the meal and service make up for it.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Poor quality food. Over priced. Poor service. Will not return, ever. Disappointed as we need high end choices in Hendersonville.
google avatar

Elizabeth N.

Yelp
Updated review: visited again and won't be back. Got the black fettucini again and it somehow lost its delicious squid flavor, there was no shrimp, and the chorizo was not chorizo at all, it was lightly seasoned ground beef. The spaghetti is disappointing, and the cheesecake has a very weird super dry cake layer.
google avatar

K G.

Yelp
Just when you thought this place couldn't get any better...the patio is now open! Unique and delicious craft cocktails, a wide variety of menus items that are well made, all in house, and change often. Never get bored with the offerings here. Service is the best around. So happy to have this level of dining experience in our small town.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
The food is very good but the table and chairs for 2 are sooooooooooooo uncomfortable. Literally my back hurt all day the next day from them and I'm not an old person. Invest in something comfy for parties of 2..I won't go back inside bc of that unless I have a party of 3 bc they seem strict about where you sit.

Yelp
Hallelujah! Fine dining comes to Hendersonville, at long last. After traveling to Tuscany a couple months ago, I can attest that the food and wine here are LEGIT. My husband and I tried three glasses of wine; the Primitivo by Calx, the Super Tuscan by Ventisei, and the Pecorino by Simone Capecci. They were all outstanding. The Pecorino had an almost briny taste, it would have paired beautifully with raw oysters. I drank it with the linguini and clams, and it was perfect! We shared a caesar salad to start. It had shaved parmesan atop fresh romaine, not the junky kind you would find in the grocery store. Fresh tomatoes and croutons. The dressing was incredible. They graciously made spaghetti and meatballs for our toddler. I was a little offended by how intensely he ate it and exclaimed "yummy in my tummy" when he has NEVER done that for anything I've made him at home. Hmph. Seriously, I have never seen this kid eat anything so fast and furiously- he ferociously wiped his face between mouthfuls and sighed with joy. I tasted it, and I can affirm that it was delicious. I had the the linguini with clams, which was ever so fresh and delightful. The pasta was thin, it was different than the linguini I'm used to seeing. The herbs were on point and I ate every last bite. My husband had the spaghetti bolognese. It came with a big scoop of fresh ricotta on top. He devoured it, but I managed to get a bite and I would definitely order it in the future. Finally, we ordered the chocolate pudding cake for our son. He didn't let me have any. Judging by how quiet he got while eating it, I would say it was delicious. The interior is classy, clean, and modern. The service was absolutely impeccable. Our server, Seth, was super knowledgeable about the food and the wine and he was attentive and friendly. It was the level of service you would expect from a fine restaurant in a major city. The chef was the former chef at Moto in the Gulch. He is so gifted! I'm so pleasantly shocked to have this amazing restaurant in Hendersonville, I can't believe our luck. We will be regulars!

Yelp
An unexpected pleasure in an otherwise banal strip mall sprawl, Rosie weaves a convincing spell of food, atmosphere and service with few distractions. The cocktails are creative and well-balanced, and the wine list has a few well-chosen surprises that compliment some of the rich dishes on the menu. Their menu changes frequently, reflecting seasonal ingredients and a focus on ingredient freshness, a practice I heartily endorse. We were blessed to be there on an evening when they were serving their famous short rib ragu, grilled octopus and foi gras small plates, and a wonderful truffle risotto. This is creative, thoughtful food, expertly prepared. The only detracting factors for the entire meal were the presence of the connective tissue in the foi gras, which was otherwise immaculate, and the distracted service at the bar - the presence of attractive young ladies there caused our barkeep to miss our order. Even that made us smile, though. So, not flawless, but closer than I'd ever expected to get in Hendersonville! Highly recommended.

Crystal W.

Yelp
Honestly a very nice restaurant but a little overpriced for the menu. Drinks were good but also very expensive.
google avatar

Paige W.

Yelp
Fantastic but limited food options yet very delicious especially Beef Shortribs and Blue Lasagna! Great service, very attentive! Cozy, candlelight ambiance, no kids so that was a nice break for me, a mother of 3.
google avatar

Glenn W.

Yelp
outstanding food! good atmosphere and excellent cocktails. I have never been disappointed here. I however would be remised if I didn't provide some feedback that would renhance the dining experience. Owners, could we please warm this place up with some window treatments or draperies? Create an ambiance that's more low light elegance. Heavy drapery over the plate glass windows would also help sound dampen the place so it's not echoing like an empty garage. Nothing ruins the experience here than the bright fluorescent glow from play it again sports. I have no desire to window shop handmedown golf bags while enjoying a $200+ meal. The goal should be once you walk in, to not feel like you are still in a strip mall. I love the food, the space should be equally as comforting to enhance the entire dining experience.
