I was excited to try this place out as I just moved across the street last week. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Ordered the Nachos with Carne Asada. The total came out to $23. The whole thing had as much Carne Asada on it as stuffed Street Taco. There were a lot of chips, but the nachos were not layered. Once I got past the top layer, there were few of any toppings that made their way down. The cheese was heavy handed on top, which turned into a congealed nightmare as it cooled. The cherry on top is that the refried beans were on the very bottom, as in under the chips?! When I go to a Mexican restaurant for the first time; I always order their nachos. In my experience nachos are a good indicator of what the rest of the food will be like. I mean, if you mess up nachos... Sorry Rosita's. I thought we were going to have a long, fruitful relationship. Unfortunately, you're just a one nacho stand.

Google
The 1st and arguably still the best Tex-Mex in Tempe. The menu features a wide variety of authentic fare larger portioned sizzling fajitas to bowls of savory menudo. If you can't find what you're looking for there's the create a plate option. There's a full service, so visited that some seats are showing a bit of wear. Topping off your dining experience is the friendly waitstaff serving endless chips with their signature salsa recipes.

I met a friend at Rosita’s Fine Mexican Food in Tempe for lunch. We live on opposite ends of town, so this is a good place for us to meet in the middle. We were seated quickly and presented with chips and salsa to snack on while our meal was being prepared. I ordered Chicken Enchiladas and a glass of Pepsi. My friend ordered Spinach Enchiladas and a glass of water. The total, including tax and tip was $49.30. The food was prepared quickly and was hot and delicious. The meal was filling and we definitely did not walk away hungry. There’s a good chance that I will try this restaurant again.

I grew up eating at Rosita's in Mesa, and I am so glad that it still has fine Mexican food. This was my first time at this location in Tempe, but it will not be my last. We were warmly greeted by the staff and given tons of time to look over the menu. While we checked out the menu, we munched on their amazing chunky salsa and spicy salsa that was a little less chunky but had tons of flavor. I ordered the pick two items and got the spinach enchilada and beef taco with refried beans, and my mom did the build your burrito bowl with fajita chicken. Everything was amazing! Seasoned and cooked so well. Both dishes were simple and delicious. Neither one did not need anything added! Our waitress frequently checked on us with a smile and got us everything we needed. We truly felt welcomed! Again, I'm so glad that we made the choice to come back to Rosita's after so many years of being away! The quality of their food has not changed and their prices are still really good--just $30 for both our meals and we took food home! I will be back when I am in the area.

Google
Crowded and noisy; close seating. The salsa was too hot, not palatable for children. Everything had too much onion. The chicken was rubbery and had a bland taste. The spinach quest was really good as well as the chips. They don't use hamburger meat in any beef dishes. The chicken tacos weren't what we expected. There was only 1 waitress, and she was frazzled.

Great place for authentic Mexican food. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly at this location. The food servers are proficient and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant for fine food.

I know this is never been an upscale cantina but wow how bad can it be? I sat at the bar thank you for not allowing smoke which I fully expected like the old days. The bartender gave me the worst service I might have ever got. It felt like she was trying to be horrible. Sorry I ordered water but you serve Pepsi products so I didn’t hve a choice. Last time I tried tea and it tasted like toilet water clearly wasn’t fresh. The salsa comes in a plastic Togo container? The real issue was the food. Who ever made my food also put no effort into caring. The taco was over fried and the meat dried out kind of like jerky. I ordered chicken but got beef. But my server never came back so I couldn’t even ask for my proper order. The girl who brought my food as nice. No refills so I asked the bus boy and he said sure but never returned My tamale was so hot that all the sauce evaporated. Everything was terrible. But thankfully the salsa was fresh and I didn’t get food poisoning. I don’t know how this place stays open? One last note the bartender was even more rude to the table next to me. She was not rude to me just ignored me completely. I actually felt bad for the girls at that table

Yelp
I frequent Cornish Pasty on University a bunch but had never gone to Rositas. I went today for Cinco De Mayo's as a plan C truth be told. However, immediately we were greeted with fantastic service despite showing up an hour before closing (I know I'm sorry). However, our server Shanya made our entire experience. She was the best, kindest, waitress I've had in a while. The food was good but Shanya was great!! Will be returning just for her. She was a vibe

Yelp
LT & Mrs. ., USN Ret. @gmail.com -0489 September 3, 2025 General Manager/Owner Rosita's 960 West University Drive Tempe, AZ 85281 Dear General Manager/Owner, My wife and I extend our heartfelt thanks to our server, Sarle G., and the entire team at Rosita's for an exceptional dining experience on September 3, 2025, at Table 7 (Order 54). Traveling from North Phoenix, we consistently find the outstanding service and food at Rosita's well worth the 21.6-mile journey. We were particularly impressed by Sarle G.'s remarkable attention to detail. Despite our last visit being over two and a half months ago, she remembered our preferences, including our fondness for your fresh chips and salsa. This level of care reflects the dedication of your staff and the family-oriented culture of your business, which sets Rosita's apart from national chains. Sarle G.'s kindness, professionalism, and enthusiasm for her role were evident, making our experience truly memorable. The warmth and attentiveness of your team extend beyond Sarle G. We've consistently encountered kind and enthusiastic staff during the lunch shift, including today: Manager Maria, Brandy & Charlle; all of whom demonstrate genuine care for their guests. The team's engagement--greeting guests warmly, remembering preferences, and sparking friendly conversations--creates a welcoming atmosphere that we deeply appreciate. Additionally, the cleanliness of your establishment is noteworthy. The spotless condition of the restaurant reminded me of the meticulously scrubbed decks of a Navy ship from my service 40 years ago. The exceptional food, prepared by your talented chef, further elevated our experience. We also commend Manager Maria for her visible dedication, consistently overseeing the restaurant to ensure a high standard of service. When we arrived we found MARIA with a mop & bucket making sure that the business was spotless. The contributions of Brandy, Charlle, and Maria during our visit today further enhanced our meal, making it truly outstanding. Rosita's has become one of our favorite dining destinations in the Tempe area, not only for its superior food but also for the exceptional service that keeps us returning. We never revisit establishments with subpar service, but Rosita's consistently exceeds our expectations. Other personnel encountered on past trips: Caden, Bredon, Depaul, Sara, Alexis, Brian, and another Brian Thank you again for a wonderful experience. We look forward to our next visit. Respectfully,

Yelp
Food was good just not great. The chunky salsa was great! Our server was attentive. The only thing that lost a star is the prices are a little high for an older, little run down restaurant. The ambiance is just ok.

Yelp
Food was good. Third time here. Not sure if cook was ready to cook . This time food didn't taste authentic .The taste was food service pre made. Was decorative for Christmas.

Yelp
This is a nice, quiet spot serving up some fine Mexican food. There's a lot to choose from and I got myself a mini Mexican pizza with deep fried ice cream. The deep fried part of the ice cream isn't all that special as it's primarily them putting a small layer of Oreo crumbles all over a very huge ball of vanilla ice cream. My crony got a green chile beef dinner. Our whole order came out to $42.05 (includes tax and tip). The complimentary chips and salsa were nice, but I've had better. The Mexican pizza itself was fairly novel. Service was professional and convivial. Overall, an above average experience.

Yelp
I would love to give them 5 stars because we've been coming here for decades. It's been a while since we've been here and the place is showing its age. Service was decent. I give a full 5 stars to their plentiful chips, salsa, and hot sauce. And my chicken flautas with guacamole and the spinach enchiladas are still the best. But we were disappointed with the black beans, fideo, and Mexican pizza. It was still good to be back!

Yelp
I had dinner here last week. I ordered the green machaca torta. I eventually also got the free chips with two kinds of salsa. All in all, it was a pretty uninspiring meal. The food just wasn't that good. Satisfactory if you're in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Service was awesome but they sat us in a busted booth...those enchilada sauce is 100% canned sauce and their tortillas are paper thin and disgusting!! Would never eat there again!!!!

Yelp
Located on University in Tempe. This is a great Mexican restaurant. Service was great and their food was excellent. An old Mexico feel.

Yelp
Oh my word this is some of the best Mexican food ever!! The tamale and the chicken chimichangas were absolutely amazing with authentic taste!!
google avatar

Yelp
So so food. Neither good nor bad. Just middle of the road Mexican food. I had the shredded beef enchiladas with rice and beans. So so.

Sally B.

Yelp
First off, the chunky salsa, was as I was taught to make and super delicious! Our hostess suggested street tacos, I followed her recommendation- especially so I could use both salsas, again so delicious. Washed it down with a skinny marg, where I could actually taste the tequila.

Yelp
Good filling food for our big group after the zoo. Service was fast and friendly. Location was clean and authentic.

Yelp
Really love this local spot! As a transplant from Vegas, this place totally scratches the itch for family style Mexican food. Good food, good salsa and chips at the table, homey atmosphere, nice servers. Just far enough up the road from ASU to get away from the "college feel." Everything is delicious! I'm partial to the arroz con pollo.

Yelp
I have been going here for 22 years!!!! I love both stores but my favorite is Hardy & University!!! Charlie & everyone else is so nice & always come up for a hug or handshake!!!!! Yelp
I like a lot of things about Rosita's. Their rice and beans were delicious. I ordered the lunch special with 2 tacos and rice and beans. I got the chicken tacos and I really wish I hadn't. The chicken, while flavorful, was mushy. I really truly did not enjoy that. The taco shells were delicious and crunchy. I would definitely try beef tacos if I went back. Atmosphere is great. Service was great. Rice and beans (and chips) were great. Just... don't get the chicken.

Nancy D.

Yelp
They don't know how to make a mix drink twice I tried 2 different one had to send back and the carnitas were dry and salty I wouldn't go back your ad said homemade tortillas not true

Yelp
Lived in AZ for decades but left almost 30 years ago. Recently back visiting and wanted to experience the Mexican cuisine of my youth. Rosita's fit the bill perfectly. From the cheese crisp appetizer the collection of very fresh and tasty salsas to the main course of stacked shredded beef enchiladas. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
I feel like everything about this place is mid. Service, food, drinks. I'd say the only thing that seems authentic is the ambiance. Def has a. Old school Mexican vibe but everything else doesn't match.
google avatar

Yelp
This is an old school mexican restaurant not far from the airport. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Our drink order was taken and I thought I would try their prickly pear margarita. The cocktail was delivered in a reasonable amount of time and it was very tasty. I think it's my new favorite margarita flavor. For dinner I ordered a cup of albondigas, and two enchiladas (chicken and cheese) with a chile relleno. The albindogas came pretty quickly and it was packed with chicken, veggies, and even the broth was very tasty. A very nice start. My entree came next and in a reasonable amount of time. The rice was very good, beans a little watered down but still flavorful, the chicken enchilada was really dry but the cheese enchilada was delicious. The chile relleno was flavorful but was way to wet and kinda just fell apart. A very good experience here but I think some refinements are in order.

Yelp
First time here and I really enjoyed it! Everyone in our party of 4 loved their food. Very tasty. Super friendly staff and waitress. Nice atmosphere and good sized portions. We'll definitely be back when we come to visit our son at ASU.

Yelp
So this is our second time here. Came back because the first time was pretty good all the way around. This second time disappointment at every level. Service, food, cleanliness, prices. I will not be going back.

Yelp
Coming from out-of-town, I had a craving for authentic Mexican Food. Rosita's is perfect! The food was prepared as I hoped - delicious! The portions are generous (I had a burro for the first time ever - phew! so filling). The ambiance is sweet.

Yelp
I called ahead, to ask about their Mole. I don't like it spicy, I like it on the sweeter side. Well it was spicy! Not a happy patron!!

Yelp
Great walk down memory lane from when I was a student at ASU. Food great. The day we were here the restaurant smelled like there was a problem in the restroom. We v still enjoyed the food.

Yelp
Went to this place way back in the 90s. Decided to give it another try. It's nice inside with an older dark decor. I thought the chips were ok but both hot and mild salsas weren't too good. The mild was tasteless and the hot wasn't hot but salty. Ordered the combo fajitas meal which had both beef and chicken and rice and beans. Also it came with little cups of sour cream, pico, and guacamole. The food was ok but was salty. This place is decent but not awesome. Prices were reasonable. Staff was very friendly. Might be back in another 30 yrs or so. Lol

Kevin ..

Yelp
Food was good. Not the best but good The restaurant seemed a bit tired. Staff was friendly.
google avatar

Marie D.

Yelp
We've eaten several times here and enjoy the consistency. I usually get the horchata and a bowl of albondigas. Whereas my bf will get the hamburger and fries. It's always a hit and we love the baskets of chips and salsa. Service is good as they try to hustle even when they're busy

Deja B.

Yelp
I took my mom here for her 74th birthday because it's her favorite. We normally go to the one in Phoenix, which is by far entirely better. However, the Tempe location was a horrible experience, especially for my mother's birthday. The host was in a bad mood, the rice was bone dry maybe dryer, the server was nowhere to be found and didn't even ask us how our meal was during or after everything, the corn tortillas were stale and chef seemed a bit frugal with the sauce. It's unfortunate that with a name and reputation like this place we will never return. I left a $2.00 tip and honestly the server was lucky to get that.
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
Had just returned from Mexico and was looking for delicious mole. Settled on Rositas! Service was good, chips were warm, food was fresh and plentiful. Mole was a little salty. I realize there are different types of mole, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. Still a great experience, will just grab something else next time!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place, amazing food, very nice service. We loved Rosita's and we'll definitely come back! Five stars!

Yelp
I had just gotten off of a very long flight from Boston. I was tired but know since I was in Phoenix I wanted a little Mexican food. Rosita's did not disappoint. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by a happy smiling young lady. She promptly got me a seat and immediately I got a basket of chips and salsa! Perfect starter! Then not more that a couple minutes went by when a wonderful young man by the name of "flow", Damien was at my table with a menu and asked what I would like to drink. Jokingly I asked for a pitcher of Mountain Dew, and bingo, out he came with a glass and a pitcher. He asked if I was ready to order and I asked him what he recommended. I can't remember the name of the dish because, seriously, I'm still in awe of how delicious it was! Damien, "Flow", thank you for the recommendation. I will be back and be bringing some friends!!

Yelp
Best margaritas ever! Me and my husbands favorite spot these days. Server was so nice and friendly had a great experience.
google avatar

Hayley C.

Yelp
My go to mexican spot! The staff is amazing, friendly, and attentive! The skinny margaritas are amazing! some of my go to dishes include the street tacos (which are discounted on tuesdays), the pozole, enchiladas, and normal tacos! this place is my absolute favorite. i highly recommend to any one!
google avatar

Jesse P.

Yelp
So the review is on the Steak Fajitas only. The service and their hot salsa is very good. I was craving Fajitas and went ahead and ordered, truly expecting nothing to write home about. What I received was maybe 4 ounces of pre cooked frozen beef strips that were sauteed with about a pound of bell peppers, onions and tomatoes! Very disheartening to receive this and for them to actually call these Fajitas. Bottom Line Don't order the beef fajitas if you've ever had really good ones and have high expectations. I'll be back but will definitely not order steak fajitas again!
google avatar

Lea M.

Yelp
AMAZING POZOLE! Finally found a good one, super happy & excited. Great quick service (to go order)--I did have to wait on the phone a little to make my order initially but after that it was good service throughout. I ordered their largest order of pozole, which honestly only fed me but I was really hungry. So I would suggest going larger if you're ordering it. I thought the price was great for the amount & chips and salsa (one of my favorite salsas now) was thrown in. Of course all the fixings for pozole were included too--although make sure to ask for a tortilla if you want one. Can't wait to try more from this place!
google avatar

Brooke C.

Yelp
The food was very underwhelming. I ordered the steak fajitas, which were very over cooked and lacked flavor. The service was fast and attentive but nothing special. The environment was what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Music and decor were nice but did not make up for the unimpressive food.

Yelp
Did you know there's a wonderful Mexican food restaurant in Tempe called Rosita's?! It's located on University and Hardy in a little strip mall. The restaurant is cute and is decorated with plants, flowers, and Hispanic flare. There is plenty of seating with choices of tables or booths. We have never had a bad server at Rosita's. The waiters are great and the food comes out hot and speedy fast. Rosita's is great for big groups. There are two rooms that we have used in the past for work celebrations. The menu at Rosita's is for EVERYONE. There's a variety of food choices for meat eaters, those who are gluten free, and those who are vegetarians. When I go to Rosita's I always order the hard shell shredded beef tacos with rice. Chips and salsa are always served. They have two different salsas you can ask for. They also have bean dip you can order. A couple of tips: Rosita's has a Taco Tuesday and they have a punch card you can punch every time you order a meal. After your 6th punch you get a free meal!

Glenn R.

Yelp
Nice little restaurant in a small strip mall. Good ambiance. I sat at the small bar and ate there. I had the Cadillac Margarita which was tasty and not too tart. For dinner I had the Carnitas plate. Possibly the tastiest carnitas I've ever had. It came with rice and beans which were average. I substituted corn for a huge flour tortilla. Nice wait staff as well.
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
I've been to Rosita's a few times. Definitely has a Mexican feel to the place! The food is better than most Mexican places. This time, I tried the Tortas. WOW! Why haven't I tried this before? Even though I was slightly hungry, I wanted to devour the whole thing. Definitely ordering this if I go back again.
google avatar

Deedee L.

Yelp
Food is awesome!!! Will be back rolled tacos beans and rice!! Yummy Love the decor as well

Joe B.

Yelp
Having visited this place in the past it is time to find another Mexican go to. Our server was indifferent throughout our visit. The food was OK although it took 45 minutes to receive our food. We were told our food was coming twice during the delay. Refill of salsa and chips during our long wait didn't happen. No apologies for the long wait. Server mixed up our orders and we had to point it out to her. We ended up swapping plates as we could not wait any longer. When it came time for the check not a mention a party gratuity before presenting the individual checks for tip. Ambiance of older dark interior. A table and seating in the corner used for storage of items and plants. Not appetizing. Need to navigate the parking lot with people hanging out. Management clearly not paying attention to what is happening at this location.

Yelp
We loved our dinner here. Exactly what we were looking for this evening. Nothing fancy; very satisfying. Our waiter, Ron, was fantastic. His service was fantastic but also his recommendations were spot on. Highly recommend the Carne Picada (thanks, Ron!). We will be back. This place deserves far more stars than it has. It's simple, but a gem. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Nice little Mexican Restaurant in Tempe, Az. Good food, nice service and affordable. Happy to have this place close by!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. Cool old school vibe inside. Happy Hour until 7:00 is solid. Reasonably priced food. Think a cross between Taco Bell and Chi Chi's. I think that sums it up.
