The Best Restaurants in Santa Rosa | Eater SF

"Perhaps best known for its no-corkage policy, this restaurant dedicated to pizza, wine, and piadini invites guests to explore an extensive list by creating wine flights of their choosing. While chatting with your server about your selections, your Castelvetrano olive and Caggiano sausage-topped pizza, its crust made with Caputo double-zero flour, spends its minute inside the 800-degree Mugnaini oven, emerging blistered and glistening. The mozzarella and burrata are made in-house and gluten-free options are available. Don’t miss the balsamic roasted fig pizza with caramelized onions and mozzarella — the juicy fruit’s moment in the sun will end soon." - Christina Mueller

Our first time here. What an unexpected surprise. Food was delicious. Fun family place to dine. Christina was awesome with some great food recommendations. Must try the fried chicken and I’m not even a fried chicken person. So good.

I'll be back. Everything was delicious. The apple dessert was particularly outstanding. Pizza pictured was the moto guzzi. Intense flavor, very savory. We had the vermintino which is a very dry delicious white. Friendly service with nice lighting and things to look at.

I'm blown away by the service we receive here. The servers are attentive, and the food is delicious. My husband loves to order a margarita pizza with raw prosciutto, I love the polenta and risotto, my kids love the pizza and we all love the fried chicken <3 🍗

Eric Murinko

Google
I had the margarita pizza and Caesar salad. Both were amazing. Service was great and atmosphere was nice. They had made some extra corn ribs and so I had the luck of trying them as well. Super good. Will head back when I come back to Santa Rosa again.

Busy spot with good service and good pizza and many other choices. The soft polenta with pork belly is a nice plate to start with as a shared appetizer.

Kelliann Reginato

Google
Delicious, and service and meal were perfectly times. We shared the corn gazpacho style soup and the chopped salad piadine - both were light and refreshing but left us full and satisfied.

Jill Schaeffer

Google
So quaint. Service is friendly and the food comes hot and quick. They use a brick oven for their pizzas and I think they do an amazing job getting the food out with wonderful quality.

Google
Wonderful food and atmosphere. As soon as you step inside, you'd have no idea you were in a strip mall. Simple but wonderful decore'. Open and airy, yet still intimate. I've been here a number of times but today I've decided to leave a review. My son and I are on a mission to visit every pizza restaurant in Santa Rosa. Last night Rosso's was due for our visit. We arrived at 5:30 and found the place mostly empty. We sat at the long bar where there was seating for probably 15. Soccer was on the TV, but upon request, the bartender switch to game 1 of the World Series (come on, I had to ask for that?) The menu was a simple one-page piece of paper with food on one side, beverages on the other. I like this because some places give you a book where you have to flip through pages of menu items, and crumbs fall from it onto your table or lap. My son had a simple cheese pizza, and I ordered a small wedge salad and an appetizer of calamari. Wedge was delicious. Not the typical wedge but it's too difficult to explain. Check photos if you want to see it. Calamari was fresh and not chewy or over battered. My son prefers a pizza more in the style of Round Table, but I thought it was really good. A bit thinner than he's used to but more in the style you'd expect in Italy.

Yelp
Amazing GF pizza! Had a very nice dinner in a great resturant. We will definitely be back and look forward to next time!!

Yelp
I stumbled upon this establishment through this app and decided to give it a try. Since my first dining experience here, I have returned countless times to enjoy the wonderful food with family and also because of the thoughtful and kind service our party receives. We have yet to find something here that we don't enjoy. All of the appetizers are amazing and suggest if anything, start with the quattro of carne with the pizzetta.

Yelp
Great pizza and service. I love a thin crust that is bubbly and chewy around the edges and this place nails it. The service is great and you can bring your own bottle of wine with no corkage fee! I'd definitely recommend this place if you're into the pizza crust like me.

Yelp
Hands down a fantastic choice for a group dinner with family and friends. We met our friends for dinner, and they had no problems seating our giant party of adults and kids. I had the Moto guzzi pizza with spicy sausage, swiss chard, smoked gouda and and caramelized onions. Stunning and delicious! A must-have! Bonus: they give kids a little chunk of dough in order to make their own appetizer. This was so fun (and distracting for our kids), and frankly very educational. Parent-approved!!! Our friend's daughter made an impressive braided bread that she saw on Bake-Off. Wow!

Yelp
Really, I gave it one star in 2018? This experience was night-n-day different than that. We arrived with a reservation for eight. The manager, sorry I do not remember your name, advised us that it was not on the reservation list. Oops, it was busy in there! He said he would take care of us. He noticed we had brought some red wine to have with our meal and without asking, he opened up a bottle from the bar and poured us each a glass of wine without charge. Well that set the mood from disappointed to WOW. GREAT customer service. We were seated after a brief wait and the server, Adrian took care of us. We ordered Burrata, Cindy's Pollo salad and Calamari Fritti. All the appetizers were great but since there were eight of us, we only had a taste each. I wanted more. We also ordered an appetizer Pesto pizza with house ricotta + pistachio + lemon oil + basil. That was the star of the show. Great texture with a burst of flavors. The pesto wasn't overwhelming but shined through with the lemon and pistachio adding some contrast and flavor. Sorry I did not get a picture of it, it went really fast and I was hungry. Most of us ordered the fried chicken and it was great! The chicken was crunch and tender with great fried chicken flavor and complemented by the pancetta glaze. Who doesn't like a bacon like flavor on anything. The potato's that accompanied it were a nice flavor addition as it was smooth and flavorful with just the right amount of green onion. One in our party ordered a wrap and she loved it. I did not taste it but she was taking it home with her. Another member ordered the FUNGHI DI LIMONE Pizza and they loved it as well. I did not taste this either but they said they would order it again. We finished off with a dessert, I am sorry to say I do not remember the name of it. It was great flavor with chocolate, cream and nuts. I only was able to have one bite. Next time I will get my own. It was a great night, great atmosphere, great food and great service from Adrian and the manager.

Yelp
I know change comes with time but change for some isn't always good. Sadly, the changes here reflect new chef and new focus for diners. They used to do the fried chicken and calamari with rice flour so it was Gluten Free. It's been like that for well over a decade, a real treasure for those of us with intolerances to feel just a bit normal when ordering off the regular menu and having options. I found out last night this is no longer the case. I was so shocked and disappointed that we left. I really do understand that different chefs will have different focal points but it's just such a loss for diners like me with already limited options. So this is an FYI. I guess to weigh out the info, they now do dessert which was never an option before. Sigh...

Yelp
Whenever I am in a chill mood to linger & zone out pretending I like football (I don't really care what's on the screen as long as I can relax) I always long for Rosso's. The pizzas are fine, salads are even better (Cappo & the Caesar!) but what keeps me coming back is the service! The owner is usually bustling about and the young man behind the bar is very knowledgeable and passionate about Italian wines. He will gladly answer any questions and offer tastes and suggestions without pretense. I could easily hang around for hours people watching, fake sports watching, munching, sipping & reading. This is a great neighborhood and family friendly spot. It would also be a fun place for a date or to catch up with a friend. I enjoy it as a solo diner.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. We really need to come here more often. Went to lunch with some friends today we had the mushroom pizza which was very special and quite fabulous and then the meat pizza. Two of their green salads everything was really really good wide variety of wine choices small beer list but all in all excellent will be back soon

Karen S.

Yelp
It's my absolute favorite pizza joint. I am so sad to learn of their closure. Please reconsider, Kevin! We need your delicious pizza, and great atmosphere in Santa Rosa.
google avatar

Yelp
The pizza was excellent. We shared one that had guanciale (pork/bacon) with leeks. Very good. This pizza is the chewy Italian kind, which I love. Their Caesar salad was bland. No croutons or anything either -- just lettuce, some pregrated cheese, and dressing. Their dressing really needed some more anchovy or salt or garlic. Their wine selection was good, but pricey considering the whole area is surrounded by wine. The service was good. They let us sit outside with my dog. They have about 4-5 tables outside in a covered area, so even if it was raining? Great spot. Overall, I'd go back for the pizza for sure.

Yelp
What happened? Haven't been here in years. It used to be sooooo good. No more daily specials. No more bread with meals, ceasar lettuce e was so wet that the dressing didn't stick so barely any flavor. Bucatini and meatballs. Meatballs were good flavor but the buccatini was only 1 cup smLl portion and smothered in sauce that was just ok. No fresh ground pepper or fresh shaved cheese offered. Had to request water No one ever asked me how my food was. $72 dollars latter for 6oz wine, ceasar and pasta. Mediocor at best.

Yelp
Haven't been to Rosso's in years but it was once again well worth it. Went last night for "locals night" but didn't have the prix fixe menu but ordered off the regular menu though did take advantage of the half price wines on Tuesday local's night. Four of us shared the excellent Calamari. Caesar Salad was very good and the Bolognese recommended by our very hard working server (she seemed to be the only one) was excellent. Wife enjoyed the Meatball and Bucatini Pasta dish while the other couple loved their pizzas; one got the Funghi Di Limone, the other got Guanciale + Porri. The pizzas are actually large enough to share. Service was friendly and faster than expected with the somewhat tight staffing but we had a great time in the very nice space. Windows are very very dark walking up so it is actually hard to tell they are even open so it is smart for them to have a "today's special" sandwich board outside. Easy parking is a plus. Value is very good for a quality sit down restaurant in Santa Rosa.

Yelp
Had mixed feeling based on some of the reviews on service level but so happy we made our way out here. We sat at the bar because this place is popping! We were happy with that and the service was great. We ordered Classic Margarita Pizza, Polenta and Brussels sprouts. All were spot on. The polenta had incredible flavors and the most memorable dish of the three. The pizza was very good. The cheese was a less melted then other margarita pizzas I've had but still good flavors. The food came out quickly, the bartender/host was attentive and nice. Im definitely going back to try other dishes because they nailed these ones!
google avatar

Yelp
Been here before with our close friends, 'high end' Italian - lots of veggies and stuff for people who like that. Not my thing as much. That said, came back with the wife and ordered meatballs and the fried chicken. Meatball app is very good; chicken meal was excellent. Waitress was attentive and friendly. A high end Italian joint.

Sara S.

Yelp
Sad to see it go It was our go to restaurant in Santa Rosa always good food and service!
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
A great value for the quality of their take out! It's been the only quality wood fired pizza available in Santa Rosa for years. Now Napoli has arrived I'm sure there's a little competition, but the other dishes here are crave-able, Cindy's Pollo Salad, The fried Chicken etc.
google avatar

Hazel J.

Yelp
They changed the dough and the sauce.... And not for the better. The margherita was not good The pollo salad was great though - 5 stars. Sad that I have to find a new place for pizza
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! I cannot believe I have not reviewed it. I've gotten this delicious crab pasta (which is seasonal, but absolutely a favorite of mine), my last experience was the fried chicken, with a nice honey sauce and mashed potato's. Also NOTE... no corkage! How many places can tell you that! An open kitchen and great ambiance, I love this place. And their wood fired pizza is delicious!
google avatar

Nathan T.

Yelp
Bryce and the team at Rosso's are top notch. Excellent service, delicious food in a cool, laid back atmosphere! I highly recommend. The Pepperoni Pizza and the Scallop Risotto are mouth watering!!

Tulsi P.

Yelp
Joel!!! He was amazing from the jump from seating us in 10 mins during a busy time to coming to joke. The atmosphere in the restaurant is so amazing everyone is laughing and smiling. Love the energy will definitely be back for Joel and his team! Thank you.

Yelp
This place has been a staple in my family and friends lives! We have celebrated many different occasions here and the food, drinks and service never cease to amaze us! Thank you Rosso!
google avatar

Yelp
The best pizza I have ever had. Literally! Gluten free. I can taste the freshness of the ingredients used - absolutely spectacular. Amazing service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
This pizza place is delicious, and the ambiance is great too. The flavors of the wood-fired crust are delicate and the texture of fluffy Neapolitan crust is delightful. They have an excellent assortment of toppings, and the salads and sides I've tried are all delicious as well. They have indoor seating and a little outside in the back too that was like a hidden creekside alley with bushes and lots of fresh air. This is one of my top pizza places in town and always enjoy coming back.

Yelp
15 Nov 2021 Great food and service in a lively atmosphere. When you need pizza on a Monday, Russo has you covered. Shout out to our server and the kitchen for letting us modify almost every dish we ordered. They nailed it! By the numbers: Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Value 5/5 Cesar salad (sub arugula) - Excellent. Anchovies are a classy touch.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
I can always count on Rosso for superb pizza, their salads and service. Ambience is quite nice. Especially dining on the back patio on a nice day. Great selection of wines.
google avatar

Yelp
Just wasn't impressed. We thought that seeing 4 full stars and reading the reviews would make this place a no brainer. We sat towards the back of the restaurant and all we heard was the waiters/bus boys complaining about how bad their tips were. Maybe if the restaurant doesn't charge almost 5% fee for whatever they need it for.. they would get better tips. Most people deduct that fee from the tip. Why do we have to pay extra for what the employer should be paying .The chicken was way too sweet, not a lot of pasta options . Oh well. Onto the next restaurant
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
Great service, great food. The bbq chicken, pineapple pizza, fried chicken, and pollo salad were excellent. Love there's bottle service charge.
google avatar

Yelp
Brought the family out here for a birthday. I liked this place a lot because its a bit more casual and kid friendly. If youre craving some Italian food, this place is a good spot but if you have had GOOD Italian food (like my family) you might not enjoy it. The food was good but everyone in the group said they weren't "crazy" about the food. We ordered pizzas (the margherita was my favorite) but they were all super soggy... and this was right when we got them. I give the service a 7/10. She always seemed like she was in a hurry even though there was barely anyone in the restaurant. And she was a little standoffish. I honestly wouldn't come back here but I appreciate the experience
google avatar

Gary J.

Yelp
Server was spot on - as first timers he suggested Caesar Salad, Margarita pizza with a Chardonnay. Great, fast service never feeling rushed. We'll be back for the fried chicken with polenta. Looked amazing. The ambiance is perfect as a neighborhood/community staple.

Kevin K.

Yelp
It was not very good, the chicken was crap, really no flavor and over priced We deducted the four-point 5% from the tip that's crap as well. Pay your employees and you won't have to do that.
google avatar

Michel A.

Yelp
Made a reservation and were seated very close to promised time. We shared a Quattro Burrata to start. My dining companion went with a Capo Piadini, and I went with the pasta Frutti di Mare. A combination of seafood in a tomato cream sauce served over capellini pasta. A delicious dish. I would return just for this dish. To finish, we shared the oreo cookie Zeppole Italian doughnuts. We got a 250 ml glass of Turley Juvenile Zinfandel and a 250 ml glass of Davis Family Pinot Noir. Everything was beautifully plated and delicious.

Yelp
Pizza Favolosa! Saturday night dinner with friends and the vote was Pizza! When you walk into Rosso it welcomes and greets you with Italian charm. It's hosts plenty of booths and tables and provides a full view of the kitchen. You are able to see the magic of pizza in the making. Great choice for groups! The food is created from locally sourced fresh, organic, seasonal ingredients. The impressive Tuscan wood-burning oven gives you the true Neapolitan style of crisp delicious wood fired pizza. Nothing beats the aroma of a freshly baked pizza right from a wood-fired pizza oven. So good! The wine bar also boast's a large selection of wines that are perfect to pair with all of the pizza and pasta selections. Staff: Welcoming and attentive. Note: Outside seating is available. Recommended: Make a reservation.

Luda F.

Yelp
Went back for the salad and was disappointed again. We tried the pie again too but it was uninspired and the crust was leathery and tough. This place started out so good and what happened to it I don't know but I'm done with it now.

Yelp
I LOVE this restaurant. Great quality, rich flavors, fun flavors, solid wines, cool and respectable staff (at least at work,)

Matthew H.

Yelp
Good food, reasonable prices, gluten free options, and friendly staff. I eat here often when I'm in Santa Rosa

Jeremy H.

Yelp
Everything was amazing! They were out of one of their cocktails, so they made me a Lemon Sparkling Cocktail. I cannot replicate this amazing tasting beverage. Hoping they see this and let me know what's in it. Would highly recommend visiting!

Andrew D.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in around 6:30pm on Tuesday Jan 28 to get some take out and have a drink while we waited. The bartender was rude and unhelpful when we asked about a couple of the take out items. We ordered a glass of wine each and he brought them without saying a word, no thank you or anything. While we waited the bartender had a loud, almost yelling, conversation with another customer. After 15 minutes, we noticed that a box of food had been placed on a nearby table, went over and looked at it, and found out it was our order. The bartender never said anything and did not bring the order to us. His behavior ruined the experience and I will turn around and walk out if he is there when I go again.

Yelp
This has been a favorite for my wife and I for many years. It's a perfect spot for a casual "fancy" date night. My wife has celiac (gluten-free) and they have a great, fresh gf pizza dough. I'm partial to the red sauce pizzas, but they are all excellent. We also always get the Caesar salad, extra chili sauce (not sure what it is actually called). And last time we went, we brought our four year old daughter. They have a nice kids menu and are very kid friendly. They even brought out a ball of dough for her to make her own "breadstick". She really enjoyed rolling it out and "making pizza" herself.

Belén L.

Yelp
Very bad gluten free pizza. Not worth the money. The crust was hard like an over cooked rice wafer. Pretty sad and annoying for $70 for two 12 inch pizzas. Many places do this well. I encourage you to learn from others- Sonoma Pizza in Forestville is one of them.

David B.

Yelp
This place is awesome! My family keeps going back again and again because of the amazing food and service. Tonight I had the pot roast and polenta which was really tasty without being too heavy and my husband tried the bolognese which was fantastic. Our boys got to make pizza at the table will we sipped our wine. They enjoyed their pasta and pizza as well. I can't recommend this place enough!!!
google avatar

Karen F.

Yelp
So I met an old friend today for lunch and sat out on the porch. Service was excellent and the food too. I'm such a huge Caesar salad fan, and I absolutely loved theirs. It even had a dollop of hot sauce on it which really made it tasty. Not to mention the fresh sliced anchovies. Margarita pizza was super good with some tasty basil on top. Only negative was they had a pipe bust and it stunk a bit which drew the flies in. I've been wanting to try this place for years and now that I have, I'll be back. Price point to portions was great. It was a really enjoyable time.
google avatar

Heather E.

Yelp
I really want to like this place because it's within walking distance but after 4 attempts, I'm going to have to call it quits. The service has been mediocre each time. I've tried pizzas, pasta, and a salad. In my opinion, the pizza doesn't have an authentic Neapolitan crust. It doesn't have that chew to it that a good pizza has. The Capo salad was terribly bland and came with a lemon vinaigrette that was more like a lemon syrup, much too sweet to be a vinaigrette. The Parmesan cheese was waxy and lacked flavor and texture. I'm really not sure what they did to the artichokes but they were not very tasty. I've never tried the fried chicken but it's been raved about by people I'm typically with when I have eaten there so 3 stars for that and the well chilled Prosecco. Lastly, please turn down the music so people can actually converse at their table.

Yelp
Not a happy customer with this new happy-hour-margarita-pizza-only menu. Owner's decision. My family and I left after having drinks and realizing the margarita was the only choice of pizza for the next 2+ hours. I observed another party leaving the restaurant for this same reason and spoke to them outside in the parking lot. Please make this decision to only have one type of pizza at a pizzeria for happy hour make sense?! Lol

Bobby R.

Yelp
Love the food, the ambiance, the people who work there. They truly make a fantastic pizza. Thin crust, great flavor combinations- classics as well as creative. We've been taking our kids here for years for their fried chicken. Every new kid we've had try the chicken falls in love with it as well. All of the food is delicious, we all especially love their salads. It's great to support a local business as well!
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
Our work dinner "party " was here last year and I really enjoyed the food. I was looking forward to having it again and introducing it to my husband and daughter. However, we just left from there unhappy. We got there at 2:50pm and left at 3:05pm. The gentleman in the front greeted us and told us to sit ourselves. We did. He came almost immediately to remove the extra utensils we didn't need. Then we patiently waited to be offered drinks but no one came. There were only 2 parties there, plus a guy at the bar, so I don't understand why we were being ignored. We probably won't be going back...
google avatar

Darrell L.

Yelp
Very busy on a Wednesday night. Service was a little slow. Also, I did not appreciate the 4% surcharge for covering "employee mandates". I understand the margins for profitability. But that is a cost of doing business. Food was good. Noisy atmosphere.

Michael S.

Yelp
We visited Rosso when it first opened years ago and had a good experience sitting at the bar and enjoying the pizza we had heard so much about. Today we stopped in for lunch. There were a few tables out front and not knowing whether we would have service outside, we went inside to check. He responded with, "what do you want to do"? This was said with an obnoxious tone and a sour face. We ended up sitting outside and he brought out silverware and water. Not a word. The place was practically empty. I'm sorry, but to be honest this guy looked like he could have walked out of a pool hall at 2:00 in the morning. We wondered who would have hired this guy to help customers at their place of business. I ordered the Cesar salad and asked for some chicken added which they did. The chicken was warm, smoked and shredded. Weird. Cesar salad dressing is distinctive and simple to make. I have no idea what was in it but there was nothing "Cesar" about it. It was tasteless. Then on top of that they sprinkled some quite strong hot sauce in one corner of the salad. The norm for them here evidently but our mistake since I guess we missed the description on the menu. With something unusual like this on an otherwise traditional salad you'd think the customer could be at least warned. I've never had such a glum, uninterested, unwelcoming waiter. The only time he showed any cheer at all was just before bringing out the check. Ha! We got through the experience but of course we'll not be going back. I'll say it again......Who hired this guy??

Michele M.

Yelp
Hadn't been to Rosso Pizzeria since the pandemic when I had a couple not wonderful experiences, so thought I'd give it another try. So glad I did! Adrian, our server, was perfect; was there when we needed him and not when we didn't. Found out while looking at the wine menu that all wine is 50% off on Tuesdays! Split the Capo salad and Funghi di Limone pizza with my companion. Food arrived in a short amount of time, perfect amount, great service and everything tasted great! Highly recommend, especially on Tuesday when wines are 50% off!

Yelp
We're in town for a few days and wanted to get a nice thin crust pizza for dinner. I looked at so many places and reviews that it was hard to decide. So pleased we decided on Rosso! Ordered a OLIVA + SALSICCIA pizza to go and it was ready promptly. The crust was thin but chewy and perfect. I'm not sure of everything on our pizza but it was so flavorful and we both loved it. Next time we'll order more food as they have allot of options on their menu. Definitely recommend and we look forward to enjoying their food on our next visit.
