We stayed at Rothay Manor from July 10 to 15 and can honestly say it was one of the most wonderful hotel experiences we’ve had anywhere in the UK.||From the moment we arrived, the setting was idyllic. Peaceful, elegant, and tucked perfectly into the Lake District landscape. The decor throughout the property is beautiful. Thoughtful design choices in the common areas, restaurant, and even the bathrooms create an atmosphere of warmth and sophistication.||Our room (the pavilion junior suite with balcony) was beautiful: spacious, thoughtfully laid out, with a truly comfortable bed and a large, modern bathroom. It was a lovely place to unwind after a day out exploring. The only real drawback was the lack of air conditioning, which became noticeable during the hotter days. On particularly warm afternoons and evenings, the room could feel uncomfortably stuffy. A cooling solution of some kind would have made a meaningful difference.||We were especially touched to find a happy anniversary card waiting for us in our room upon arrival. When we dined in the restaurant that evening, another card, this one signed by the entire team, was thoughtfully placed at our table. A truly lovely gesture that made our celebration feel even more special.||The food was exceptional, and the care and creativity of the kitchen team was evident in every dish. The Sunday Lunch, our only hiccup during the stay, was handled immediately and graciously. That kind of responsiveness speaks volumes about the level of service at Rothay Manor.||One of our favorite touches was the dinner experience. Each evening began with drinks on the patio, where we were invited to relax, enjoy the view, and place our order with the staff before being shown to our table. It was a truly delightful way to ease into dinner. After the meal, we loved being able to return outside for post-dinner drinks under the evening sky. It made each night feel indulgent and unhurried in the best way. On rainy evenings, they have two beautiful lounges for after-dinner drinks too.||Speaking of service, every member of staff we encountered was warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. They remembered our drinks each night and made them exactly how we liked them, which was a small but meaningful detail that set Rothay Manor apart. On our final evening, Isaac even took the time to tell us what a pleasure it had been to serve us, knowing he wouldn’t see us the next day because he would be enjoying a well-earned day off. That kind of thoughtfulness left a lasting impression. Other standout staff included Craig, Pauline, Sarah, Tom, Sam, Seb, Joe, Alex, and others whose names we may have sadly missed (we're so sorry) but who all contributed to the exceptional experience.||Another reason Rothay Manor now tops our list of favorite hotels is that it is dog friendly. While we know this may not be for everyone, we were beyond thrilled to be surrounded by dogs throughout the property, including in the dining room. We had to leave our dog back in the USA for this trip, so the canine additions made the entire experience feel even more joyful and relaxed, and added an extra layer of charm to our stay. The hotel also has a lovely boot room, perfect for washing muddy paws after a long hike and for borrowing wellies when the weather turns.||If we had just one wish, it would be for a small spa and pool to make this already exceptional hotel the perfect spot. Even so, we left relaxed, well-fed, and eager to return.||It is a hotel we would, without reservation, recommend to anyone planning a trip to the Lake District.
