Montreal’s Best Portuguese Chicken Spots | Eater Montreal

"A Plateau landmark, Coco Rico is the city’s oldest Portuguese chicken purveyor, still going strong over a half-century after founder Francisco Pedro Castanheira jumpstarted the Montreal obsession. Here, amber-skinned chickens rotate whole in the front window (rather than split and grilled over charcoal as at most other spots), with oven-roasted potatoes serving as the perfect accompaniment." - Valerie Silva

Google
An absolutely insane amount of food for a small price. Enough to feed an army. The family meal gets you a full chicken (ours was a little dry), one of their salads (we picked chickpea + feta - delicious!), and probably 20 pounds of fries (!!) I would suggest their roasted potatoes which I took as a side and they were to die for. Overall $32 can get you enough food for easily 6 people.

Google
The best place to experience the authentic taste of barbecued pork, lamb, or chicken. A cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and, most importantly, the warm and welcoming attitude of the Portuguese owner made our day. Don’t forget to try their famous Portuguese dessert, pastel de nata, which is arguably the best you can find in Montreal. Highly recommended!

Google
I know this place has a lot of food on the menu but the only thing we tried were the Pastel de Nata. Wow Delicious and they could definitely compete with the one we ate in Portugal. Highly recommended!

Google
This is a staple on the Main for decades. This place has been producing some of the best ribs, rotisserie chicken, sausage, roasted potatoes as well as sides such as their amazing Cole slaws and salads. This is a restaurant that’s not about eating in with table service and such. It’s mostly about take out and having a quick bite at the stool counter while people line up to order food. The displays show enticing yummy food while you wait to be served and by the time it’s your time to order, you now want a little of everything! I have had everything here, but I have to say that one absolute MUST is their Nata pastry. These are made fresh and usually still warm in their display leaving the pastry crust light and flaky and the filling (an egg custard like filling) smooth and creamy. I doubt you can only eat one - I certainly can’t. So to the food. Ribs: large and meaty pork ribs are perfectly cooked and seasoned. Chicken: rotisserie is fantastic juicy and skin nicely crisp. Their chicken sandwich is near perfection for a simple light fluffy fresh bun filled with fresh chicken, allowing the chicken to be the star of the meal and it was fantastic. Roasted potatoes: perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly such that they are creamy inside and slightly crisp on the outside. Sausage: not overtly hot nor spicy, however as you begin to swallow you can feel a low warm heat develop and it’s just right. They are cooked well such that the casing is nice and snappy crisp. It’s a very densely packed sausage and very firm. Roasted lamb and pork: scrumptious.

Google
Wonderful Family Business with a heartwarming atmosphere. The owner is absolutely amazing! Pastel de Nata- best in town, poutain (very large portions)- wonderful! It's perfect for a quick dinner, they offer chicken and salads on the side, also portugeese bread. 10/10!

Google
Oldest Portuguese chicken in Montreal and still the best. Chicken has so much flavor and crisp skin that's amazing . Don't forget the potatoes and the ribs were unreal. Also the rolls are huge and light

Google
Great Portuguese fast food. I've been going there for 35 years. It's the same good roasting chicken dripping on the potatoes you see roasting in the oven machines. Everything is delicious and they have the best natas. I always take a sandwich, I ask to add a red pepper and some smashed roasted potatoes with the sauce et épices.

Google
I don't know what the history of this place is but it has the marks of a restaurant with tenure. Typical rotisserie menu featuring sandwiches and BBQ plates. Obviously the star of the show here is the meat, but they also have the best Portugese style roast potatoes I've had in Montreal. I love the texture of those balls of goodness, my favourite form of potato after the unbeatable french fry. Slim seating options so takeaway is likely a common option. Prices are good for these times especially for quality, freshly cooked food like this.

Yelp
We ordered through Ubereats. The potatoes were delicious and the stars of the meal, but it's never a good sign when the restaurant's staple isn't the standout. Chicken was dry and really needed some more seasoning or at least more salt. French fries were ok, salad was fine, macaroni salad was sad, noodles were over cooked and the dressing was too sweet for me. I was disappointed that they didn't include utensils for a family meal. Pasteis de nata were fine, too much vanilla. Overall, it was ok.

Yelp
Stopped here with a friend to pickup some of their famous Roasted Chicken. Smaller spot with counter service and High top tables. He recalls coming here before going out for a good and hearty meal on the cheap. We ordered a whole roasted chicken with a side of roasted potatoes and cole slaw. Chicken was seasoned and roasted perfectly and had a slight spicy kick to it. Sides were both excellent-especially since I'm not big on Cole Slaw and enjoyed it. They do have Poutine as well Roasted Pork and Portuguese Sausage. Also saw they offer the famous Pasteis de Nata for dessert -next time. Simple and reasonably priced. We will be back!

Yelp
This is a counter-serve restaurant with limited indoor counter seating with stools, and a small terrasse for outdoor dining during the warmer months. I really enjoyed the terrasse here because of all the painted street art on the neighbouring buildings. *Chicken: We ordered a half chicken to go. It came in a bag and wasn't cut up, so you have to be adventurous and be okay using your hands. It was SO JUICY, and the marinade was just right, not overly salty, and not lacking in flavor. *Pork poutine: So this poutine is topped not with pulled pork / BBQ pork, but it seemed more like marinated roast pork. It made for a nicely balanced take on poutine, to contrast with the salty gravy and squeaky cheese curds. *Pastel de nata: These come out at a nice temperature, straight from the warmer. The pastry puff crust is thick yet light and crumbly at the same time. The custard is really well balanced, not overly sweet or heavy, and made the tart really easy to eat. Keep in mind there's a small discount if you order six. I haven't eaten at any of Montreal's other Portuguese rotisserie chicken places but I can say that Coco Rico definitely hits right.
google avatar

Jennie C.

Yelp
Cute place to grab a quick bite! Friendly staff and quick service. I really enjoyed the potatoes, it was garlicky, flavorful, and hearty. The poutine was a poutine and I didn't think it was anything special. We also got the chicken sandwich which I found a little too dry - I think it would be really good with extra sauce!
google avatar

Angie S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my last meal in Montreal this morning. The chicken was tender and the taste was just right. Not bland, not too flavorful. The Nata tastes very close to Nata Manteigaria, the one I had in Portugal. Nata is a must try! The lady at the cashier is the nicest. Will definitely come back here!
google avatar

Charles D.

Yelp
This place has the best Montreal has to offer imo. I kept coming back for the chicken rotisserie trio sandwich. The nata for dessert is a must. Get one or 6. The sides, it's different than I'm used to... several choices of coleslaw... which I didn't ever want any. But the roasted potatoes were crispy and amazing. I'm going to east here again should I ever return.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
Zero stars.I ordered roast potatoes and chicken sandwich. What I got ended my loving the food from here.My whole order came "COLD" and the chicken sandwich was slyly filled with "BOILED CHICKEN SKIN" instead of chicken meat Boiled chicken skin is disgusting I got sick. Really "CHEAP" service by this restaurant.I was a loyal patron now "NO MORE".!!! At this restaurant order with extreme caution and prejudice!

Yelp
best chicken sandwiches evaaaaaa. very nolstalgic about this place. guy working there accidentally let me skip the line which was great. vibe is always very friendly but like does it even matter because all I can think about when I'm there is gimme sandwich. I think mat liked it but honestly it doesn't matter because we will be returning no matter what. coco rico is my love language. coco rico is love. coco rico is life. epic. wow. -paloma

Yelp
Great chicken! Rotisserie, perfectly cooked, that and potatoes or fries, with some side salads is what they do, and they do it well. Right next to Swartz's deli with their line out the door. Sure Swartz is a Montreal spot, but I pick coco chicken every time. Perfectly seasoned. They rotisserie their chicken over the potatoes, so can't recommend to roasted potatoes enough. Fast, efficient and polite staff keep the line moving.

Yelp
This hole in the wall right next to the famous smoked meat shop is a sleeper hit. We were in a heavily Portuguese neighborhood so why not try the food? Order at the counter, collect your food, and park yourself at a table i side or outside. They have meat options like ribs, slow roasted pork, and roasted chicken. They may have had sandwiches too, don't remember. The side choices are. A bit limited. They have cole slaw, roasted potatoes, and salad (you choose which kind, here they have variety). They roast their potatoes underneath the chicken so they are basted with the chicken drippings, which makes for a flavor explosion, even for non potato fanatics, like myself. We opted for a family combo. Note the take out price is lower than the dine in price. You are offered mild or spicy sauce to eat your meal with. I recommend you take some! The chicken was succulent and the food reminds me of the latino food cafeterias back home with the roasted chicken. They also have a traditional Portuguese dessert called pastel de nata. It's kind of like a crustless mini custard. I was not expecting too much from it, because custards don't excite me, and it was not much to look at, but damnnnn, I had to hold back from buying more to take home. Exquisite!

Yelp
This place is located just north of Schwartz's deli. If you don't want to wait in line you can just come here. I ordered the quarter chicken leg with roasted potatoes and macaroni salad. The quarter chicken was small. It had good flavor and wasn't overcooked. They use the rotatory method of cooking instead of charcoal here. The potatoes were a let down. The outside was hard and the inside soft. I had Portuguese small round potatoes at other place and it was so much better.
google avatar

Danan R.

Yelp
This was one of our favorite finds in Montreal - while we were waiting in line for Schwartz's too! We saw asign and a few folks walk out with the custard tarts boxes and decided to venture in after chowing down on our brisket sandwiches next door. Because, ya know, the best way to cure a food coma from meats and fries is to eat dessert. The service was fast and very friendly and the tarts superb. They are fluffier than Ma Poule's and have a crisper crust and thicker filling. I always prefer a fluffier and thicker custard because that's the best part (at least for me) so this was the perfect tart for me. We went back and got a 6 pack for $13.50 which came in a nice vertcial cannister. Definitely stop by if you are in the area for the tarts!

Yelp
Very good chicken sandwiches, super tasty and tender. Not dry... They give a crap ton of potatoes. Too much honestly.

Yelp
Every time we drive by st laurent it's always late after 10 pm and we always miss their opening hours by a mere 5-10 min lol however last night We got lucky and managed to leave dtown earlier!! Yaaay !!! We decided to stop by before our way back home and pick up dinner for the house. We went with their Family Pack for 24.99$ It's a pretty great deal .. we got the full Portuguese Chicken came with a large salad , a large bag of fries when I say large it wasn't a small tiny Mcdonalds large it was a huge Mega xtra large ... and Portuguese tarts for Dessert Service was awesome and pleasant we ordered and it was fresh and ready in 5min tops It was a huge line up but it moves insanely quick. The food: ok the chicken was not The best but it was super inexpensive and I definitely had to give it a try.. It wasn't the best Portuguese chicken I've had quite a bit dry but still good. The fries came in a massive bag a lil bitter to my liking but still smelled amazing and fresh! Salad was fresh but not much inside just mixed green lettuce and carrot julienne slices. Overall, if you're looking to fill your belly up quickly and you're on a budget this place is definitely worth to check out as we had a feast and still have some leftovers ... I definitely recommend this place !

Yelp
Everyone has their favourite places in town for Portuguese chicken. We decided to give Coco Rico a shot after picking up some groceries. It's next door to Schwartz's. The menu is up behind the counter: roasted potato, roasted chicken, pork ribs, chicken wings, sandwiches, super plate specials and combos. - Spicy half chicken ($6.29) - we were making dinner at home so we grabbed half a chicken as our protein. Wasn't spicy at all but it sure was greasy. Meat was dry and overcooked. Sadly, this wasn't close to real Portuguese chicken. - 2x Natas ($1.50 each) - always need to try the natas. These weren't flaky or creamy. Instead, it was almost too sweet. Not up to par. Don't get how this place is so highly rated. Put the extra effort in and walk/BIXI to the other Portuguese places on rue Rachel. You'll be much more satisfied.

Yelp
Terrific sandwich, bomb potatoes, chicken on point, macaroni salad to die for. Man working counter immediately understood my need for spicy food and loaded 'er up good. Got a coke and I'd reccomend it. 5/5 A++=

Yelp
We were in the area and wanted to have a quick light lunch. Coco Rico fit the bill. there was no crazy line up like there is outside of Schwartz so this is a great alternative if you're starving and don't want to wait in line next door. We ordered at the counter the 1/4 Chicken combo for only $8.95. Since we were two they simply took half a chicken and cut it in half and give each one of us the quarter...one of us got the breast the other one of us got the leg. So we have a choice of their little round potatoes or french fries. The little potatoes are nicely seasoned and tasty. The fries are on the greasy or side. They offer a small salad alongside the chicken. You can request for extra sauce on your chicken and it comes in a small little plastic container. The chicken is not as flavorful as Portuguese chicken from Romados but is acceptable especially for the price. It's also not as well roasted but again is still ok. There's not that much room in the restaurant so you sit along the counter on the opposite wall. This is more a quick bite/takeout place then a sit down and dine place.

Jacky Eats Mtl ..

Yelp
1 Flew Over the Coco's Nest. In the heart of The Plateau, Coco Rico is another great Portuguese chicken joint. Parking is not happening. Service was helpful & Jacky loves it when the staff recommends their best. On the menu: Jacky had the "Rotisserary" chicken with fries & a pork sandwich. The chicken had a crispy outside & an oh so juicy inside! The pork was moist & the fries had a nice crunch & kick to them. It was all delish! Price is good; there's some bang for that cluck! The decor is dated but Jacky don't care & nor should you. Just go and ask for the bird. Follow @JackyEatsMTL

Yelp
chickennnnnnnn. I ordered the sandwhich trio and it was delicious. Juicy and flavourful chicken. I was a newbie to this place so I didn't realize you could customize the sandwich, it was still really good! Potatoes were ok and the macaroni salad was great! I love the way this place smells when you walk through the door. ughguhgu so heavenly. Get you order to go because you can eat outside when it's pretty and warm.

Yelp
After having been a bunch of times over the years, I really just want to raise them up to a five on five and specifically point out that for half a century their family has maintained such a high level of consistency - which really speaks to their legacy. With such challenging times these days, it may be even more important to recognize this and give them the praise deserved. If you are wondering if or what I ate, I had a classic chicken sandwich, with a vinegar pickle and some wings and all were exemplary. It's really amazing how every day, you can count on there offerings to be spot on. Keep up the good work and hopefully for a long time to come. Plus, hopefully there will be CFL football to watch after grabbing a bite there in the near future. Thanks again for caring that quality and value mean a lot.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
We we're actually going to the place next door and stumbled on this one! So glad we did! It was better than the other place we still got food at! The portions were very good and the food was very fresh! We got a 1/4 chicken and rib plate with potatoes and Mac salad. Delish! The one plate was enough to fill me and husband up! I do recommend the potatoes. You can get fries anywhere ! Try it out! There was a constant line but they moved through the people quickly. highly recommend for visitors if you want something different and good!
google avatar

Eddyc C.

Yelp
We came here around 8:00pm for a quick dinner. I wanted the 1/4 chicken dinner with roasted potatoes. They didn't have dark meat so I settled for white meat. The chicken was good but this time it wasn't as good as I had it in the past. Maybe the chicken spent a bit too much time under the heat lamp. Although being a bit dry it was still good. The potatoes were good as always.
google avatar

Johnny F.

Yelp
The chicken was tasteless and rather dry.... the pastel de nata are made of just flour, no eggs whatsoever... at least the customer service has improved
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
Don't know why this place is so highly rated... Between my friends and I, I had a chance to try their chicken and pork. Both meats were dry - the chicken was definitely not authentic portuguese, and the pork chop must have been sitting on a stove all day because the bottom of it had been completely blackened and the whole thing was as dry as leather. It's a shame because the potatoes were some of the best I've had!

Abhishek G.

Yelp
Coco Rico is an excellent joint for Portuguese Chicken and I am one of their loyal customers. Sadly, I was disappointed with my recent visit on May 09, 2021. We went there in the afternoon with an allowance of 4 customers inside the store due to COVID19. This is a good thing. While I was deciding on the order with my wife, there was another Caucasian couple at the cash. So, in total there were 4 people inside. Suddenly, a lady staff from behind the counter in a heavy French accent asked my wife to leave the store to accommodate a customer from outside. (THIS IS A PROBLEM). My wife stepped out and I finished the order in about 5-6 minutes and left the store. Canada has NO rules to separate couples inside the store as long as the customers are following the rules of COVID19. The manager should train their staff to focus on their customers inside the store and keep the process smooth just like other businesses. Most customers like to follow rules and they should not be harshly treated or kicked out from the store to get more customers. This is not business but a sense of insecurity. I have posted my reviews on other platforms and have got NO REPLY from Coco Rico's management as yet. Let us protect us from the impact of possible racism. I am a Food Enthusiast. Follow me on Instagram @abbiethegourmand. Thank you.

Yelp
The star of the show here is the Roasted Chicken.....The place is mostly a take out joint, but there is a counter where you can sit and enjoy your meal. Dozens of roasted chickens are always being cooked in their two large rotisserie machines and they look great.. We had a quarter plate with potatoes and salad....the meat was moist and well seasoned...tasty with a nice spicy kick to it....The potatoes were tender and not too salty... They also have ribs but everyone we saw was having the chicken...so we decided to give the poulet a try....it was a good choice !
google avatar

Yasmin A.

Yelp
Omg omg! This place is amazingly good, like the chicken is so juicy and so delicious. The roasted potatoes balls are so yummy. This met my acceptations like seriously, I like there fries that taste like chips. There sandwich's are the bomb. And there sauce I love it. I highly recommend this place can't wait to try more.
google avatar

Shirley S.

Yelp
Perfect for late night eats, especially when you don't feel like waiting for Schwartz again lol. Very quick service, and everyone is super nice which makes it so pleasant :) the inside is not that clean but for the price, you can't complain... Got the chicken sandwich and poutine (new addition to the menu!)! the chicken was dry, but the poutine was great. Starchy cajun fries swimming in artery clogging gravy topped with chewy cheese gold. The nata (egg tart) was a little stale but delicious nevertheless!

Yelp
During this pandemic I have to set a tone when I wake up, what is my intention for the day? I decided to walk to St Laurent St and have a little side walk picnic with take out food. So many choices, Schwartz's , The Main and Portuguese chicken which is Coco Rico. All next door neighbours plus a bonus, Bill Bouquet ice cream to seal the deal on a hot scorching day. You can smell the food oozing in the air from this Rotisserie as you walk by so I entered. Prices are really reasonable! I had a chicken dinner plate which included fries, salad and choice of spices brushed on the chicken so i chose Spicy. They give a pretty big plate thinking I would never be able to finish it all but guess what? I ate all of it .This place has been around for ever and one can never go wrong to eat here. They have ribs as other choices that you can add to your chicken with side dishes. So much to choose and all very yummy! Off to Bill Bouquet for my orange chocolate ice cream in a cup...ouhhhhh!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
I usually go here after making a stop at Schwartz. I have eaten the chicken here and it's great but I usually just grab some natas as dessert after going to Schwartz since I'm pretty full. These are some of the best natas I've had and I recommend coming here just for those.
google avatar

Boz X.

Yelp
I ordered a half chicken with potatoes and pasta salad. The chicken breast was somewhat dry, just like St-Hubert chicken. It was poorly flavored and the skin was completely dried out. The spicy sauce did not taste much of anything. The chicken leg was moist, a tad tastier than the breast. The potatoes were a bit sweet, and I didn't find its combination with the hot sauce very pleasant. The pasta salad was greasy and tasted too much mayonnaise. The 40¢ bread was really dried out and salty, at least Romados gives them for free. As for the natas (egg tarts), the pastry was soggy... so I wouldn't recommend buying them. If I gave Romados a 4/5, I'm going to have to rate this lower.
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Chicken and ribs were so good and cheap! (we even snuck in some Schwartz's take out from next door for an insane meat fest without the crowds)
google avatar

Tony N.

Yelp
After a great day of galavanting up and down St. Laurent, Coco Rico is a great place to end your day if you are on a fixed food budget. I see students and locals of all ages and ethnicity come here to feast on some good ol' poulet, so I must give this a try. I ended up sharing a rotisserie chicken with my girlfriend and a side. The chicken skin is thin, crispy and a piece of heaven in every bite. Lets just say someone can get hurt fighting over it. I almost poked my girlfriend for a piece. My mom is going to kill me, she raised her children not to fight over food and I have committed a cardinal sin. SORRY MOM!!!
google avatar

Brian K.

Yelp
I came here for a quick snack with 3 of my friends. We already had dinner plans, but we wanted to try this place. So we ordered the combo #2, which comes with the ribs and the chicken. We also got the macaroni salad and the slaw. All of it came out to be around $20 (which I think is pretty cheap given how much food we got) I really liked the chicken. It was flavourful and tender. The ribs were also pretty good as well! The only thing we regret was that we couldn't eat too much cuz of our dinner reservation
google avatar

Praveen C.

Yelp
I happen to discover this place (thanks to Schwartz). As a tired customer standing in line I decided to risk it! but it turned out to be a rather decent discovery. Like this place because it's simple and to the point - Delicious chicken with some wicked hot sauce over it and some boiled and bbqed potates (cooked alongside with the chicken) on the side makes a very filling and delectable meal. The chicken is really tender and moist and just melts in your mouth. Doesn't have too much space to sit but honestly I'd keep my focus on the chicken and do with it :p Totally worth it! Staff are very friendly and warm. Price is cheap (1/2 chicken for 5.99 +Tx is a steal deal) They do serve bbq'd ribs too but haven't tasted em. May be next time..def!

Yelp
We ran into this restaurant while exploring a festival on Saint-Laurent. The rotisserie chicken looked so good we decided to walk back to this establishment for dinner. We opted to have the non spicy version of the rotisserie chicken which was still very moist and flavorful. We ordered inside and then brought our food to the outdoor patio to do some people-watching as the festival was still ongoing. Overall a nice choice for an affordable ans tasty meal.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
This is a solid bet for Portuguese chicken. The chicken is similar to Romados, in the sense that it's moist but just a little tasteless as the flavour does not reach the inside of the chicken, but the skin and top layer is awesome. The star attraction here is the potatoes, melt in your mouth, tender warm and swimming in oil, nothing beats them. Romados offers a ton of fries so it's better value since Coco Rico gives about 8-10 potatoes.I normally buy extra potatoes and ask for spicy as they are worth the extra calories. The interior is very sparse, there is a counter along the wall and that's it. It's understandable that there are no formal tables as there are lineups most of the time and there's not much room.
google avatar

Katya P.

Yelp
Small, no frills place with very tasty chicken! First time going there, I ordered a quarter chicken and was given the breast by default (50 cents more than leg), came with delicious mini potatoes and macaroni salad (around 7$ a meal) My companion got a combo meal with chicken, ribs and porkchop (12$) however he said the pork was too dry. My chicken was nice and moist although I wish there was a bit more sauce. I opted for the non-spicy alternative. They also have cherry cola which is one of my favorites. A nice touch! Service is excellent. We were there a bit before 7 and there were continuous lines of people but everything was moving quick. Staff makes the effort of greeting and thanking each one. Overall great chicken and value for portion size. Just wish this place was a bigger and had actual tables to sit down and eat, instead of a counter and stools.
google avatar

Yelp
If the line-up at Schwartz's is too long, come here instead. Seriously. The rotisserie chicken here is amazing, the skin alone is super-crisp and the meat inside is juicy and not dried out at all. That's a sign of chicken-done-right. Make sure you ask for the spicy sauce to be brushed on as well. I've brought friends from overseas here and they still rave about the chicken and the roasted baby potatoes. Ribs are so-so and I haven't tried their ham or roasted pork but the patrons I do see order those items always clean up their plates. The creamy coleslaw is also quite stellar. If you still have room, their egg custard tart desserts are also worth it!
google avatar

Allan E.

Yelp
I have been going here for decades.Chicken has always been tender and delicious.Order more hot sauce.Love the potatoes with sauce.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
I had my very first Portuguese chicken sandwich at Coco Rico and really enjoyed it. The chicken was juicy and I had never eaten anything like it before. Although I asked for it spicy, I didn't taste much heat, however, it tasted delicious all the same. I personally like it best of the few I've had in the city. I came in just before 9pm on a Wednesday night so there was no line. The sandwich itself came to about $6. It might be a little small if you are feeling quite hungry though, so make sure to add the sides for a "full" meal!
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time late night as they were about to close. I picked up a spicy rotisserie chicken and a couple Portuguese tarts to bring back to the hotel. It was a great meal and reasonably priced. The staff was extremely friendly. Overall it was a great experience and I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Don't buy their Natas. I know they look great but actually taste HORRIBLE!! Like they add neither eggs nor creams. It just taste like flour mixed with sugar. Very very disappointed:((( And the chicken tast so so.

Yelp
Is it just me or does the chicken sandwich trio taste better when ordered in the evening compared to the afternoon? My regular is the chicken sandwich trio consisting of an honest-to-God deliciously greasy chicken sandwich, potatoes, and a choice of salad (I always go with macaroni). This stuff is the stuff, if ya know what I mean. It's a nice change to have boiled/roasted (not sure which) potatoes instead of fries on the side like the usual. The potatoes are really good so that's a plus. I'm also a fan of the macaroni salad.. If you didn't get that already. The staff is also super nice so bonus points!

Yelp
Hands down some of the best chicken in the city. The place itself isn't fancy but I promise that you will love the food! It's pretty much a counter for take out but you can stop and grab a bite as long as you're fewer than 6 or are going at an off-time. They have about 18 places total but most people are there for take-out anyway. I recommend the chicken (!) but also the ribs and if you ever get a chance the lamb (order only). I've been going here for years and honestly you'd be hard-pressed to find better rotisserie chicken. Not your typical portuguese, Coco Rico slow cooks their birds to deliver perfect chicken every single time. Staff is friendly and the place is generally clean. A great choice if you're looking for a healthy meal to bring home or a really just interested in enjoying great food without the added frills. I would recommend this place until the end of time.

Yelp
Really loved their chicken! Got some take out today and the staff was friendly plus the price was right! Definitely going back to buy some full chickens for my meal prep.

Yelp
The lady at the front was very dishonest, how she treated her customer. I went in for a whole chicken, she tried to promote the pork ribs to me, keep asking me 2 time about the ribs. So, I said okay for a small portion and weights it and told me it was 10.49. And she keep asking should I want to cut the ribs, at first I said no. But, she keep saying after she brush the BBQ sauce, I can't cut it anymore..so I said okay to cut the ribs. Guess what ? when I want to pay for my food ..now she charges me at 12.99. I stead of 10.49.? I asked why? She said she has to charged me for to cut the ribs.. what it is now? She is a liar !! Don't go to that store! It is not about the $2.00..it is not the way you do business and how she treated customer like this! Beware of her! I just think this is not right, and people should know about it.

Yelp
I live right around the corner from Coco Rico and I get food to go from them semi-frequently. I usually get a half chicken meal with coleslaw or a chicken sandwich. Sometimes the food is just ok, but sometimes it is heavenly. When it's heavenly, the chicken is juicy, flavorful, and the skin is perfectly crisp and delicious, and the potatoes are smooth and yummy (cooked in the chicken juices). When it's just ok, the chicken is dry and has little flavor, and the potatoes have an old taste and texture. I have an idea why it is so inconsistent: the staff seems to change frequently. Recently, they have been trying to charge us extra for the coleslaw that comes with the half chicken meal. It's right on the sign behind them, but they don't seem to know what goes in the meals on their very limited menu. Another thing that I find annoying is that they are supposed to stay open till 10pm on weekdays and Sunday (11pm on weekends), but they close early sometimes. We tried to go tonight at 9:45pm and they were sweeping up with the door locked. The least you could do if you're going to close a little early to get a head start on the cleaning is to keep the door unlocked and let people just order to go for the last half hour or so. It's so disappointing to plan on getting food at one of the few places that is supposed to be open till 10pm only to have them close early and ignore their regular customers. Yes, it's winter and it's slow, but you have hours posted for a reason. If we'd known they were going to close earlier, we'd have gone earlier.

Yelp
For under $20 my gf and I got two quarter chickens with potatoes, coleslaw, macaroni salad, pop and a portuguese egg tart. My gf got the mild sauce and I got the spicy sauce, the spicy sauce had a nice kick to it however the chicken did not have much flavour. The chicken was pretty moist and tender but not as good as Romados like others have mentioned. Got only a few potatoes which were soft and hot, once again not that much flavour with those as well. The macaroni/coleslaw salad was decent and my gf said the tart was good but did not taste fresh. Overall I give this place a 3.5/5, food was just okay and the same goes for the price.

Yelp
I recommend the chicken sandwich and ribs. Pork plate is not very charming.
