Rough Draught Whiskey Bar

Found this place while we were out strolling College Station looking for a place to eat. As soon as you walk in you're hit by the wonderful smell of a Wood Fired pizza! Almost wish we ate here lol. They have a crazy good whiskey selection, and honestly more Texas Whiskeys than I even knew existed! If you're in town, it's worth a visit!

Good beverages. Great Pizza. Good service. We had the chicken bacon Pesto pizza. The bar crackers were great but had a little kick on the tail end. Worth it in the middle of the day but I'm not sure I'd risk it on a Friday or Saturday night during the college bar scene.

Easy atmosphere, much quieter than most places in North Gate. Friendly and creative staff of bartenders are always coming up with cool new stuff and have great recommendations. Also: great pizza. This is not a stop while barhopping, it's where you hang out the whole evening.

Traveled to town from Keller, TX and had to support an old friend who I’ve known since high school and haven’t seen in 24yrs! Brought our entire softball team for the pizza and parents got to enjoy a few drinks! Pizza was phenomenal and atmosphere is great! Definitely recommend!! So good seeing the owner, Kyle, too!

First time here, been hearing about it on the radio. It did not disappoint. Highly recommended!

Best real deal Italian pizza? Kyle knows what he's doing and he does it right! I wish there was an option to build your own pizza (and maybe there was), but the pizza dough is far superior and done it right!

This is by far the best bar in College Station. I come every time I’m in town. The Berry Pimms Cup is amazing!! The pizza restaurant is the best addition. All the guys love the old fashions and whiskey/bourbon options.

Best pies on the Gate. Don't believe me, come see yo self. The bar is also amazing and the staff as well.

ABSOLUTELY the worst cocktails. I rarely rate any establishment a one-star, but I just had what had to be the worst Old Fashion and Whiskey Sour imaginable. The Old Fashion was just flat-out not good, on top of that it was a very stingy pour and to top it all off they poured it into a FULL glass of small cubed ice, I have NO idea how you call yourself a "whiskey bar" and serve this drink on that type of ice. The best part was, there was no twist to the orange rind it was just tossed in the glass. The Whiskey Sour was almost undrinkable, it tasted like they took bottled sour mix put a dash of whiskey in the glass and said "good luck" Not typically, this is what I would expect in some dive bar or night club, but again to call yourself a "Whiskey Bar" ehhh just an absolute fail.

Such a good place to go to for HH or just to hang! The drink selection was great and the pizza was SO GOOD. We had the Elote pizza and it did not disappoint! 10/10 will be coming back here!

I absolutely love Rough Draught. I'm not even a big whiskey drinker but they still have a great selection when it comes to other drinks. It's definitely one of the more chill bars on Northgate which is nice if you want to go out in College Station but want to be a bit more low key. The atmosphere is very rustic, there's lots of seating, games to play, and they're about to open a pizza shop that will be next door as well. If you go, I suggest getting the berry Pimms cup, it's super refreshing. Also, don't forget to ask for the crackers! They're a little hidden gem that they keep behind the bar and they're to die for. COVID Precautions: Minimal.

This place is amazing!!!! If you are a whiskey drinker this is your place. Great alcohol and fun atmosphere. Fantastic pizza and fun and knowledgeable staff. I will make it a point to come back every time I am in college station.

This place is really cool, and the bartenders really know what they're doing. I saw people doing lavender strawberry lemonade shots, and asked if they could make a drink version, and it was great!

Excellent whiskey selection and great happy hour ($5-$6 drinks with high quality booze). Experienced bartender, seasonal specials with fresh fruit. They also have Pimm's Cup (not often seen outside of NOLA) and terrific mules along with classic whiskey cocktails. Come during happy hour for the best deals but it's great any time.

I love their mojitos and mules, and the blueberry sour they make. They also have a lot of different deals on different days throughout the week!

The best dirty martini, ever! The bartender took the time to muddle some olives with vermouth and peppered vodka so there's ALL the olive flavor without all the chewing

If you like whiskey and know even a little bit about it this is the place. Great selection and they didn't bother with the fru fru stuff. Bartenders know enough to be dangerous, but excited to learn and share what they do know. Two thumbs up on this one!

The classiest bar in College Station, hands down, no competition. They call themselves a Whiskey bar and Whiskey is what they do. Their strong suit is bourbon, rye and texas whiskeys. Their selection of these is extremely impressive. They have more normal selections of scotch, gin and liqueurs with a few stars thrown in to give some dazzle. (Irish for example mostly features the entire Jameson's line - a solid choice but normal - and the Tullamore and Bushmill line. The exclamation points are Redbreast and Green Spot. Scotches are more like Glenlivet, Glenfiddich but they do carry the new awesome Suntorys. You can't get a lot of those bottles anywhere else in BCS except at Rough Draught. Bourbon and Rye however are the total star of the show here. I won't even try to make a list. It is just one fascinating selection after the next. College Station drinking is undergraduate drinking. Beer in plastic cups. Commercially flavored vodka and rum. Margaritas made by formula. Microbrews for professors and for undergraduates with better palates. In Lilliputia, a normal man stands like a giant ... and by College Station standards - Rough Draught is the Holy Tabernacle of small batch whiskeys and finely crafted single malts. Hey, I'll take a Holy Tabernacle any chance I get.

This is a relatively quiet and calm bar in the entire Northgate area. They serve different whiskeys and other drinks.

From Seattle to Miami, Rough draft is definitely one of our favorite bars ever! With well over 100 whiskey options, over 30 beers on tap, an excellent mix of old and new school cocktails done right, and the best bartender's in college station you can't go wrong here. The decor is a eclectic mix of rustic charm, meets a speak easy. There are cozy little corners for chilling out, a comfy bar to cozy up to, games and a piano to play, tv's for games, sliding glass door that allows for an alfresco experience. They don't serve food but you can always use the "favor delivery " app. If you're into people watching, it's the ideal spot when North Gate comes alive! Check out thier calendar for live music nights. Bottom line, go!

Located in an area awash with "shot and bud light" joints is a place that holds out hope for mature souls. This easily boasts the best whiskey selection in college station, especially for the price point. Pours have been generous on the last few trips and service friendly. One of the bartenders actually knows quite a lot about whiskey, which was a nice change to the standard "yeah man..its awesome" kind of service. Want a beer to cool you down after the whiskey? Sure, they also have a decent selection of micro and standard brews. Definitely a place to have on a after work drink rotation.

This was a great bar to visit. Awesome beer and whiskey selection. Also had a wide variety of unique cocktails. Staff was friendly and professional. They don't serve food, but let you bring in meals from local restaurants. I highly recommend you visiting this place when going to college station.

For a whiskey bar the bar tenders do not know what they are talking about. I ordered the new fashioned which was terrible! They have absolutely no variety of bitters which is really disappointing for a whiskey bar. I asked a different bartender (she was very sweet) to put an extra sugar cube in my drink and she added two a muddled cherry and a TON of cherry juice. It was completely undrinkable. When she handed back my drink the first bartender said a snide comment under her breath about my request. I will not return. This is because of the quality and the attitude given to me. I would like to add the second bartender was trying very hard to help me and had a great attitude!

Fun place to hang out with friends. Love the atmosphere and culture of this place. The wallpaper in the women's restroom was awesome helped set the time and vibe of this bar. Decently priced for how strong the drinks are.

Great place to have a drinks after work for the non-college folks! Like the decor and variety of drinks. Great addition to Northgate. Friendly staff too!

We really liked this place! They had the best happy hour deals and the drinks tasted great! I only wished they had something to munch on while I sipped my cocktail.

I found this place through recommendations from friends and their peach party event on Facebook. However, I was disappointed when I arrived on Saturday evening and they didn't have any peach left for drinks nor did they have any limes for mojitos. The staff were very friendly and cigars were great, however, I would recommend not to advertise your event lasting until 2 am and not having enough supplies to make it through the evening.

Love the atmosphere and people. This place has a more mature crowd than most bars on Northgate. The staff here has completely changed from a few years ago. They are much more knowledgeable and polite than the previous group. And the whiskey selection is definitely respectable for being in a smaller town.

Been here 3 times since it opened and I liked it. They had my favorite beer (Lone Pint IPA-Yellow Rose). It has a nice atmosphere down to the details. Bartenders already appear fairly proficient. 2/3 times they were playing good music. AND it's dog friendly! I really like how they whole front of the bar opens up on nice days. I could see sitting there not so pleasant if there are many smokers on the porch though... Also-wish they had a better happy hour. I really liked Rough Draught, but when Rebel is next door and has drinks at 1/2 price, it's a little more tempting to go there, even if I don't like the atmosphere of Rebel too much..

Perfectly serviceable place, and one of only a few Northgate establishments adults might be interested in. There are two rooms, and the one farthest to the right as you enter is the more intimate and inviting of the two. The layout is classy, lots of wood and subdued light. A large illuminated menu of Texas beer is on the wall, and its a decent selection. While I love Texas beer, far too much skews toward the IPA and over-hopped varieties, so mixing it a bit more here would be nice. They have a large and enticing spirits collection, though nowhere near what The Republic has in stock. I have found their cocktails to be very hit and miss here, and my happy hour friends have as well. Sometimes they come out right, and other times you are left scratching your head. There is no food, which is a major bummer. I like something to snack on while I drink. Adding bar snacks would be a nice touch.

My husband and I walked in, only 5 customers present, two workers behind the bar and one sitting at the bar. We sat right in front of Randy the bartender and she didn't make any effort to welcome us or even say hello. After sitting for a couple minutes Randy finally looks at my husband and states very rudely "there's no smoking in here, you have to go out side" both of us look at her and state "the cigar is not lit" her response "o....well I just saw it" and is silent. My husband then states "is that your way of asking us what we want?" She immediately got an attitude and a face that made it very apparent she was not willing to help us. Thomas the other bartender jumps in and immediately shows his knowledge of the bar. My husband begins asking for different specialty whiskers, which they do t have most. So I settle on a mojito, just have have a drink. And of course they're out of Bacardi or any other quality rum. He offered the house rum at a different price, by this time I just wanted to leave but settled on the house rum. While we were finishing our drink a customer comes in and asks Randy how to make a Vegas bomb, which she is incorrect about, and everyone else in the bar agrees. She immediately gets attitude with the other customer and says, "well that how I make them so....ya." My suggestion, better staff, that is knowledgeable about their products, or any bar knowledge, and has customer service skills. We understand being out of some liquors as it was a Sunday. A little helpful tip, When you work at a bar on a Sunday, your obviously not the best, to make tips, you have to make up for it in attitude. Experienced.

Amazing College Station venue with an amazing selection of spirits and craft beer. The owner is super awesome too. When in town, go here. You won't be disappointed.

Been here a couple of times with friends and we all absolutely love this place. They have a fine collection of over 80 whiskeys to choose from. Their cocktails are excellent and service is superb!

Im in my 30s and think this place was great until my last visit. I was told they weren't serving out of their locked cabinet. So as I understand it, the 20 to 25 dollar a pour cabinet was off limits that evening but its a business that sells whiskey and wants to make money. I have a pretty nice whiskey collection myself and if it were not for a few bottles they have under lock and key I wouldn't have much of a need to go there. Seeing as I took my friend there , I bought 2 glasses of Macallan at 18 to 20 a glass tipped 20 dollars and then I was offered their eagle rare 17 because it was " the last of the bottle," jeez, thanks. I met the owner before , he is awesome and was extremely welcoming, professional and gracious, so I'll go back, but the tool in a bartender's outfit and Chuck Taylor all stars who was anything but a welcoming professional bartender gets no business from me . If you don't want to sell the whiskey you have in a whiskey bar, then leave it at home . Update 5 stars Ashley and Shelby killed it on a Monday night and took great care of everyone, avoid the dude in the chucks and go see these girls make some outstanding drinks

This is hands down my Favorite bar in College Station! It is not only beautiful but has so much soul. It has the feel of an old school speakeasy and hands down the nicest bathrooms on Northgate!. Everything in this bar has a story from the old chicago bricks, the vintage whiskey boxes, and the wood taken from a 100 yr old building, old recycled church piano. They have the best staff and make incredible drinks with fresh fruit, mint, and of course the largest selection of whiskey around. I LOVE it HERE and I highly recommend it to people of all ages!
