"While Zemanick stepped away from restaurant cooking in the last two years, she didn’t leave cooking altogether. For example, she brought her soups to Simone’s Market this past January." - Stephanie Carter

Rouses on Baronne St. Slam Dunk folks. So convenient to all the hotels on St Charles St and surrounding areas. We had a nice kitchen suite at Residence Inn and regularly walked to Rouses to get crayfish boil which they put out at 11 am. James(highlighted in pic above) was so helpful, friendly knowledgeable about seafood prep that we ordered a pound of crawfish, corn, potatoes, etc. for awesome southern meal. Be sure to ask for James. Also Brent the manager gave us other tips about gumbo and specialties of the store.

Visiting New Orleans for a week, our Uber driver recommended this local grocery store chain. It’s a nice grocery store with an impressive selection of wine, cheese, and more. For groceries for the week, it was ideal and within walking distance to our Airbnb.

Google
Local grocery chain within walking distance of lots of hotels. I walked over on my first day in New Orleans to grab some water and snacks for my stay. It's a good midsize store with a healthy amount of options. The store itself looks deceptively small from the outside. Staff were friendly at checkout and throughout the store. Prices for some products were higher than I expected going in, but the store branded items and in-house fresh goods had great prices. Will likely be back this same trip.

Google
I really like Rouses Market because they are locally owned and offer good products at reasonable prices. Shopping at the Baronne Street location is a special treat. The Royal Street location is super convenient but about one half the size of this store. Great selection and a great inventory.

Google
Great grocery store. Walked from hotel we are staying at to get some fruit for our room. The deli and hot food is delicious. Lots to choose from. Husband even got some dirty rice, greens and baked wings. Yummy.

Google
This family-owned market boasts incredibly fresh products, including a wide array of ready-made foods and freshly cut produce and fruits. During my initial exploration of New Orleans, I sought out a supermarket for some fresh cut fruit to enjoy back at my hotel. Luckily, Rouses Supermarket was just a convenient 9-minute walk from my accommodations, with a CVS conveniently situated across from it. The supermarket impressed me with its cleanliness and neatly displayed produce, all of which looked remarkably fresh. The cut fruit I purchased was not only fresh but also deliciously flavorful. Though I only bought fruit on this occasion, if I lived in the area, I'd definitely become a regular customer.

Google
OMG what an incredible supermarket. The staff here knows the meaning of customer service. Southern hospitality at its best. I could just spend hours looking around. You will definitely find what you're looking 4 plus more. Excellent experience at this supermarket.

Google
Vacationing in the area and my wife wanted to go to Whole Foods... I said we didn’t drive 10 hours to go to Whole Foods so we went here. It was a very pleasant surprise. We were both glad we did something more local. Very cool interior. Felt like a fancy grocery store but didn’t have that air about it. Very nice meat, seafood, and deli counters. Parking lot was tiny, but even around 5 PM on a Saturday it had a few spots open.

Yelp
Appearance Watch the homeless outside there all over. Inside now we're cooking! Just like the big store just smaller. Clean set up nothing dirty. Customer service The two gentleman in the black uniforms are what make the store run. The older one with the hat & glasses is very helpful. The younger guy went out of his way to find something for me. The girl Brianna at the register keeps her cool under pressure. Plus has a nice smile. Wish the guys had name tags! Would love to give them props! Items: Available fresh & more than enough. Thank you Rouse!

Yelp
Love Rouses! I shop there for all my foodie souvenirs when I'm vacationing. My regular buys are Arnaud's Remoulade sauce, Boudin Sausage, Cajun/Creole spices, Cafe Dumonde beignet mix, Andouille Sausage, Camille red beans, several packages of frozen crawfish tails, and boiled crawfish. Employees are always friendly, and prices are good!

Amber G.

Yelp
Hot food. Groceries. Alcohol. Cold foods pre-made. Lots of choices and worth going in to see and check it out.

Marck N.

Yelp
I came here to buy local hot sauces to take back with me. The layout of the market was easy follow. The hot sauce varieties were plentiful. All the Louisiana hot sauce brands identified by the price. This made it very helpful for me to easily select and decide which ones I wanted to purchase. Check out was friendly and fast.

Joi B.

Yelp
Definitely a more bougie Rouses than, say, the one in Mid-City or the French Quarter. I'm rating it as good because it could be better. My expectation would be that I could find access to more organic and vegan items but the selection is paltry and hasn't improved since it opened years ago. It's a little surprising. What I appreciate most: -sparkling clean -decent produce selection (not outstanding, but decent) -good wine selection -Brocato's lemon ice in big containers (I'm obsessed. It's literally the best Italian ice that I've ever had, up there with Veniero's in Manhattan). -generous parking... in the CBD this matters!

Katherine P.

Yelp
Very well stocked grocery store and lots of options for hot sauce and Cajun spices to bring home that's cheaper than the gift shops around French Quarter or the French Market. Good place to get groceries for your Airbnb.

Becky S.

Yelp
Definitely was a spot to go to late at night to get some desserts from the bakery area and some last minute local items to take home for the family.

George T.

Yelp
Cool grocery store with cooked fresh food and lots of southern seasoning and desserts for sale. Reminds me of a flavorful whole foods store in Cali. Didn't get to taste the cooked food, but next time, I'll give it a try. I did buy lots of goodies and shipped them back to California.

Gerry B.

Yelp
Since eating out in New Orleans can get pretty pricey even for California standards, this supermarket is an excellent way to keep on a budget and save $$ while on vacation May 2023. I arrived late at night and luckily they are open from 6:00am till 11:00pm. I got a whole rack of ribs the first day which was delicious that I back came on Friday to have it again. They have a special ribs on Fridays so be sure to check it out. I also tried the cooked crawfish, which you scoop it yourself in a plastic bag. It is located in the back, near the seafood in a cooler and it was steaming hot, set out around 5pm. I liked their flavoring of their cooked food since it is to my liking since I found restaurant food in the area is too spicy for me. I was able to pair the cooked food with mac and cheese, potato salad from the deli, salad, cooked corn, or bread. They also have breakfast food or tacos available in the service area in the back of the store. Best of all, you can eat it indoors in an area towards the pathways to the right of the registers. Be sure to ask for a fork or spoon to eat your meal. Bring your own plastic knife to cut your ribs!

Bruce H.

Yelp
Everything a visitor could want. Fresh vegetables, meats, fish, prepared foods, wine, beer, spirits. And hours from early to late every day.

Ryan W.

Yelp
No matter how hot it is, Rouses is smooth as ice. They've (in my experience) also have what I need when I need it. There may be a line for a cashier but the wait is always minimal. Just get in the queue. They're always stocked and the inventory is broad. If you need one of something, they'll probably have three kind to choose from. It's clean and cool.

Linda V.

Yelp
Wonderful grocery store if you're going to be in New Orleans for several days and maybe not want to eat out in restaurants breakfast, lunch, dinner! They have almost everything you could want-regular grocery store (crackers, cheese, meats, canned goods, etc) but also great hot bar section with cooked crayfish, shrimp snd such for authentic creole food as well as breakfast, lunch selections. That's not all...also beer, wine, liquor, some souvenirs-reasonable too! Appears to have plenty of employees who will help you find thing!

Michelle T.

Yelp
It's a bit of a walk from the FQ proper, but I LOVED Rouses Market and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a comprehensive shopping experience. I was on the hunt for some Sweet Creole Onion Zapps and they had so many bags - but also such a large selection of NOLA-based chips and snacks. I must've bought like 6 family sized bags of Zapps here, along with cheese puffs and caramel corn. It's honestly just a wonderful shopping experience and I highly recommend it.

Yelp
If you're staying or visiting within the downtown area near the Mercedes Superdome, Canal/Bourbon Streets or Virgin Hotel and looking for hot food or groceries this is the place for you. This place is easily located and within walking distance about 15 minutes or less depending upon where your walking from. Rouse is similar to any grocery store like Raley's, Publix, Trader's Joe and Whole Foods. They had so many great hot food choices from burrito and panini to buffet style. The buffet style section had food for the Holidays about 10 choices to choose from: seafood stuffing/dressing, corn chowder but looked like mac and cheese, spinach souffle or maybe it was cream of spinach turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes and fried chicken....there were no labels to let you know what these dishes were so if you have allergies like I do ask questions. Rouse had to continually keep stocking the fried chicken because this is what people would normally pile on their plates. So I had to taste it. I don't normally eat chicken but had to try it. Awwww the chicken was tender and flavorful through and through. YOU MUST TRY IT! Now it is important to remember that what you get at the buffet area will be weighed at the cashier counter where you will also get your napkins and utensils. Parking can be difficult around the area but there is a small parking area in the back.

Rimha I.

Yelp
Very nice grocery supermarket. Love the hot food section and all the options. The seafood counter was amazing too. Seems to be a very well stocked and organized store.

Marisol F.

Yelp
For the first two or three years we end up buying drinks and snacks at CVS, Walgreens or a convenience store near the hotel. And they all cost a ton and don't really have all that much to pick from. I was really happy to accidentally find Rouses Market when I was at a restaurant nearby. Ever since then we visit Rouses Market on the first day we arrive in town. It's so much more convenient to pick up a 6-pack of soda, a bottle of wine, some crackers and cold cuts to keep in our hotel refrigerator. And even though it is convenient, it's not a convenience store; it's a small grocery store. So we were able to stop by for fruit other things we decided we needed during our visits. They even have a hot case of foods but haven't tried it yet.

Sean K.

Yelp
What a great grocery store. Whenever I am staying downtown I make it over to stock up on some food and drinks. Great hot bar and deli with fresh food. I ate plenty from here this trip: creole rotisserie chicken, muffuletta, Cobb salad. Always busy. Always able to find something to fill my hunger void

Sean S.

Yelp
Tiny but tidy marketplace tucked away in the warehouse district. I was staying locally in the warehouse district on a recent trip, and I went out, looking for some groceries to bring back to the room. I stumbled upon this grocery store across the street from a CVS, and it is a bit unassuming from the outside but once you step inside it's a full-fledged supermarket. The isles were all neatly laid out. The assortment of goods and foods all looked very tasty and organized pretty well. I also wanted to get a little bit of the Louisiana flare, which they had in spades. They definitely felt very local and not big box, in the product they had in stock. Check-out was a bit of a mess because I came during rush hour, but the staff was all personable and friendly, and we got through the line as quick as possible.

Judy C.

Yelp
Above average for making groceries. This location always does a good hot foods selection in addition to soups & salad fixings. No complaints here. Has a limited OTC cold med, headache remedy, first aid, etc selection (but there is a CVS across the street. Excellent wine and beer selections. Abbreviated liquor selection available. Good floral selection to choose from. Decent bakery - have had great luck with their cakes, sweets - where people ask where I got it (because it's so good). Good cheese selection too.

Kristin V.

Yelp
I've shopped here since the store opened and it has become a real dump over the space of the last year or two. The carts are broken. The lines stretch down the aisle, because none of the cash registers are open. The shelves are empty, they don't have basic ingredients. You get accosted for money in the parking lot. It was nice, but now I leave empty handed and frustrated.

Elena A.

Yelp
Very well stocked, easy free parking lot, Employees are friendly, I came here in the evening, saw a lot of people hanging outside drinking, kinda loud. But they did not brother me. Next time, I would shop here, would be in the daytime.

Richard P.

Yelp
A great local market right in the heart of the French Quarter. Filled with all the necessities of life without the cost associated with a big city. Beads, beer, bread, and much more in this family feel shop. They even have a security guard to boot.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Went to this Rouses Wed 3/6. Sale started today for chicken legs and Eckrich smoked Sausage. Went in about 8:40am, neither item had been put out yet, and the store had been open since 6am.

Rohan B.

Yelp
There is a large selection of groceries, drinks, and hot foods. The cashier was nice and there was a device that chilled drinks within a few minutes that was cool. I would recommend coming here.

Joe G.

Yelp
Great market , excellent staff and service . awesome deli and hot food . will be back . it's must go for everyone. tell all your friends and family

Caitlin N.

Yelp
The Baronnes location has an extensive deli selections compared other locations...we came daily to get our crawfish fix...soo fresh and yummy

Mary N.

Yelp
Spending a week in the French Quarter, I knew I would want some items for my room, Rouse Marketccarries a wide variety of food, beverages and miscellaneous item. It is in the heart of the French Quarters. I highly recommend it.

Brooke J.

Yelp
the most expensive grocery store in louisiana! literally go to walmart if you're visiting from out of town

Kristina L.

Yelp
Best place, by far, to get crawfish. When they have them that is. It's a clean spot that has everything you need. Very big store and great selections. But my focus is on crawfish and this is the go-to spot.

Kyle C.

Yelp
This has always been my favorite Rouses since moving here 4 years ago. I must say that Cake Artist Cristian is fabulous at what she does. She understands your vision for cake orders and executes. You would have thought the cakes I've got from her cost well over $100. She always delivers what I want/picture for the occasion. I will never order anywhere else besides here with her.

Gloria P.

Yelp
My husband and I are from Houston. We have family here in New Orleans. He and I always stay in a nearby hotel so we can shop at Rouses. We have noticed that the " Cooked" food have been " Lacking " in taste for the last few visits. Today was the " Final" straw for us. We went to Rouses and brought Shrimp Etouffee, stuffed cabbage and mac n cheese. The Shrimp Etouffee LACK SEASONING and NO TASTE, Stuffed Cabbage ( the meat was undercook and pink ) and the mac n cheese was ok . This s the LAST and FINAL Time we will ever purchase " Cooked Food " at Rouses

Lise B.

Yelp
Note that I'm from Canada, and simply visited this store to bring back food items unavailable at home, like Tasso. The store was clean, well laid out and well stocked. Staff was helpful. Can't really ask for more, can you?

Arlon F.

Yelp
Take caution when buying frozen seafood ! Rouses had whole flounders on sale for $6.99/lb so i thought i would treat myself. The flounder was frozen solid which was not a concern. I defrosted it and it was rotten. Stunk really bad! It stunk like rotten fish so bad that i had to get it out of my house. I went to the same rouses on baronne street and spoke with the same guy from down the bayou and explained my situation and all he told me was that it was out of his hands and offered no type of solution and was not concerned at all about him selling me a rotten fish. I cannot trust buying seafood from Rouses seafood department anymore. I grew up in Thibodaux and have always shopped at Rouses and might continue to but will never buy any type of seafood from Rouses again ! Very unhappy customer who is out of almost $19.00 I know the old Mr. Rouse would be ashamed of this store for selling me a rotten fish !!!

Lex G.

Yelp
Great place for all your booze and food needs. Even the crawfish are pretty good! Good place to stock up on hangover cures before you hit Bourbon St.

Mackerton D.

Yelp
I really like Rouses. They carry a wide variety of brands, including their own on several items, often at a good value. The store in the CBD is big and clean with plenty of associates to provide good service. If you are in the central business district, either as a resident or visitor, you will find all your needs met at this store and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. They have a full deli and bakery.

La L.

Yelp
This stores checkout employees are typically a pain. Higher priced grocery stores such as Rouses should train and expect their employees to bag groceries for customers. If they only want the cashier's to focus on scanning and payments, then Rouses needs to stop cheating us out of good customer service and hire actual baggers. The check-out employees just scan your items and let them all pile up and get smooshed at the end of the counter instead of bagging them (RIP bread and eggs!), while you are still unloading items from your cart onto the belt. They then stand there completely still while you scramble to get your money, again without bagging anything. Once you pay, you then bag your smashed groceries while the cashier chats with another employee. I am used to bagging my own stuff, and expect to do so at stores with cheaper prices. But not for the high $$$ Rouses charges.

Ellery D.

Yelp
For the most part, I do enjoy shopping here, but y'all... PLEASE do something about your vegan ice cream selection. Some of us are allergic and want something other than avocado or chocolate. There are so many amazing non-dairy brands and flavors available now, and none of them are reflected here. Nada Moo and vegan Ben & Jerry's are fantastic and I guarantee they'd sell. Checkers are also seriously hit or miss at this location. Had one guy, obviously zonked out of his mind, charge me three dollars extra cause he rang up the wrong kind of apple. Wasn't able to figure out how to refund me either so he sent me to the customer service desk. Lmao. They have an excellent bakery and salad bar, though, and a good selection of bulk items.

Michael A.

Yelp
Rouses was my go-to market when I lived in New Orleans. I recently learned they had a hot bar for breakfast which is delicious. I definitely recommend the smoked sausage.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
How did I find Rouses? Well, from the club view of the Hyatt Regency! I saw it while glancing out the window and wondered...then immediately opened YELP. A grocery store AND fresh foods? oh yeah! We wanted to grab some food for our drive back to ATL so we swung in and loaded up. Fresh pizza ($10.99 for 3 toppings, see the pic amazing), olives from the olive bar, fresh fruits and cheeses. Being veg I didn't grab any fresh made seafood and meats but they had plenty and small and large portions if you just wanted to "try" and not commit to a huge portion...good thinking! Prices are not inflated and they had some great options for local foods and ingredients to make your favorite creole dishes. The coffee bar is inexpensive and great, a krispy kreame setup right next to it of course sucked my kids in. Stop here for snacks or a meal, save some dough and skip the fancy restaurant for lunch. enjoy!

Luana J.

Yelp
Super expensive. Not for your everyday family grocery shopping. Maybe to run to quickly.

Sun G.

Yelp
Solid four stars. Like Whole Foods but they work harder. The staff were all super friendly. Got ID ed for buying liquor-nice! Great compliment. Got some ready food to orient ourselves and some toiletries. Let me tell you the place is HUGE. Prices for most part is decent and acceptable. Not as gouging as ahem Austin's Royal Blue Grocery. Selection is great. Will be back.

Alana H.

Yelp
Don't go here if you don't want to be racially profiled. The most disrespectful, disgusting experience I have ever had happened here. The elderly African American security man pulled me away when I had walked in and again when I was later walking out with my family a second time. I took time to show my personal belongings to him the first time asking nothing though I should have known my inalienable rights. I explained that I was waiting for my family. As I was waiting on my family to leave, a second time he pulled me aside again asked to search my things. I showed him my things again, and he asked why I was there. This was disturbing since I had already explained my reasons for being there. I pointed to my family in the line, who were purchasing our items and explained I was waiting for them. He shook his head head and finally let me go. I am a Latinx woman in her 30s with a successful career and have never been treated this offensively before. I will attempt to contact the owners and will follow up with any additional information. The African American woman who was the cashier of my family was as offended by this as I and my family was her name was Cieane, and she told us that the restrooms were still open. The elder African American man was racial profiling me and had no reason to do this. I will never be back at this location. The fact that this grocery store which hires workers that also agreed that his actions are unsupportable show how disgusting his actions are.

Brad B.

Yelp
Very neat store. We were staying not far away and walked overy to get some wine and beer and snacks. They have great pre-made meals. I thought it was funny because grocery stores where I am from dont carry raw frog legs but in New Orleans apparently some do!

Shirley T.

Yelp
Came here to find all of my just made in Louisiana spices and coffee This store is laid out very well and everything is easy to find The store clerk in the spices aisle was very helpful to me as well when he saw me looking around for some spices for gumbo I was also impressed with the pricing which was very reasonable I will come back here again

Keely B.

Yelp
Hate this store's customer service. I called for floral about balloons. No one ever answered. The customer service desk tried three times then disconnected me. I called back two more times and they picked up the phone and hung up both times.

Jencop S.

Yelp
Cool place and decent prices !! Their bakery items are delicious !! Their French bread loaves are worth every penny !!

Tad D.

Yelp
I like this place for groceries but I called today and asked if they had dog food. "Yes we do". I arrive and there are three kinds, maybe five bags total. WHY BOTHER??? Wish they would've told me it's a very limited selection.

Jacquie M.

Yelp
A wonderful store to buy items for use during your stay in New Orleans as well as to take home with you. I stopped by before I started a drive back home to Chicago and loaded up on all kinds of seasonings and Central Grocery Muffulettas to take with me. When I went to check out the let down began, when the cashier picked up the Rouses reusable bags I was purchasing to use, I asked if I could use them for the current purchases, the cashier rudely informed me she had to finish with the previous customer, the previous customer looked at me baffled as she was already loaded, had paid and was walking away, the crazy cashier then rang up the bags and handed them to me with instructions to bag my purchases however I wanted them bagged???? After reading the reviews I feel a little less offended since the self bagging and rude employees seems to be a thing, but the employees could use a little customer service training.

Safi B.

Yelp
The service here is amazing. The guys in the store were really attentive and helped me navigate where things are. The cooked food here is great too. Just be warned of the bags of cooked shrimp and corn. They are EXTREMELY spicy. The cheesy pasta and collards greens were delish.
