The Best North Indian Restaurants in London - Eater London

"Until a decade ago, this Southall stalwart, once known as Sagoo & Takhar, was the area’s most famous Punjabi restaurant. The standards are inconsistent now, and the place is quieter. However, it’s worth coming here for the one classic dish that it does better than anywhere else: sarson ka saag aur makki di roti. This rich, warming winter dish of mustard greens accompanied by sunflower-yellow cornmeal flatbreads, so beloved of Punjabi farmers, gets ex-pats misty-eyed with nostalgia. The leafy greens are ground into a thick paste and cooked in plenty of ghee with turnips or kohlrabi; a shower of ginger juliennes to cut through their bitter, peppery, astringent minerality. The best time to eat here is early in the day when the saag is freshly cooked and at its vibrant best. The large flatbread section is also superb; fenugreek leaf paratha being particularly alluring." - Sejal Sukhadwala

Southall Restaurants Specialise in Punjabi Cuisine and Fine Indian Food - Eater London

"Nothing comes closer to Punjabi home cooking than Roxy — one of the oldest restaurants in old Southall. Formerly known as Sagoo & Takhar, generations have been coming here. A Punjabi brunch is a must. Pick from a range of excellent paratha (roti breads): aloo (potato), methi (fenugreek leaf), mooli or gobi with yoghurt, butter and a cup of masala tea. Fancy something comforting and indulgent? Then chole bhature (fried bread made from maida flour with chickpea curry) is the tip. A little less calorific, but no less delicious: saag makki di roti (spinach with corn bread) is a winter classic. Snacks: samosa chaat will hit the spot. Broken pieces of samosa with chickpea curry, yoghurt and imli (tamarind sauce). £15 per head will satisfy most appetites. Be patient with the service." - Harkaran Gill

This is one of the worst place to go both the services dine in or takeaway. I have been there couple of times with my family for dinner or for Lunch. Always disappointed with the food and staff. For instance I had few samosas for takeaway. I went home and the min my mum tasted samosa it has stinking smell, the aloo( potatoes 🥔) in the samosa was rotten. And When I went back to the restaurant and managers wasn’t even sorry for the rubbish food. Rubbish quality, it taste like the food is been served without being checked, food was cold and prices r over priced compared to quality of the food. The staff needs training and manager need to go on holiday.

Good Indian food - the gol gappa, chilli paneer, pulao, aloo paratha and the malai kofta are really good. Service is quick and it’s great value for money

Google
The worst Asian tandoori centre .this is or was called ROXYS the tight shop owner can't be asked to change it. I would not let my dog eat here. In fear he would get ill.worat service you could ever imagine They have no concept of how to talk and treat a members of public. Very rude .Just a hole for victims who get caught out.lots of places to eat in Southall this is NOT.

It is basic inside and as is the service. However, the aloo paratha and Shai Paneer are delicious. There paratha are thin and a decent amount of filling. Also need to get the sides of yogurt and pickles. Had muli and aloo paratha once and it was not that nice. And the masala tea had way too much ginger in it. I'll defo go back for my Aloo Paratha fix.

Awesome and traditional Indian punjabi food. We had makki di roti and sarson ka saag and salted lassi. The dishes were excellent. Highly recommended.

Food is okay, but service is beyond terrible. The waiter who served us was so rude and so unprofessional. Plates and glases used were too old, with black scraped Marks on them. The menu price is normal to other restaurants but they lack on standards. I wouldn't wanna go back ever again. On the bill, there are no descriptions, only "Item 01 -£8.95". They do not accept card payments. Cash only. I would rate 0 starts if I could.

I feel sad to write this review, but I have to be honest. I have been coming to this place for 20 years with my family, it was one of the best establishments of Southall. However the standards have droped so drastically its unbelievable. Poor management, arrogant owner. The staff are treated with no respect hence why they are most probably always miserable. In regards to the food, used to tastes delicious but now it's very hit and miss. I really wish the owner would bring this place to the standards it used to be.......

Yelp
I love Roxy's! I stopped by Southall during my vacation in England and loved their food. It is very authentic and delicious. We ordered butter chicken, lamb curry, aloo protha, golgappa, and aloo tikki. My dishes were the golgappa and butter chicken. The butter chicken was amazing and my favorite dish. It was not overly spicy and had just the right amount of spices and cream. The curry is very rich and melts in your mouth! The golgappas were another favorite of mine. They came with delicious imli cholay and mint pani. So yummy! The rest of the dishes were too spicy for me to enjoy but my brother and cousin loved them. The spice level is not too bad but I'm a wimp with spicy food. I highly recommend Roxy for their authentic North Indian food. It's absoultely delicious and addicting.

Yelp
My family has been going here for 30 years, before I was born. Quality used to be consistently good over that time, which is impressive even through multiple owners. However things have visibly changed. We order tandoori chicken, chole bathura, and chicken tikka masala every time. For the Indians that have been in London for 30-40 years, this is a well-known name, and for good reason. But the service is awful. I would not want to see the hygiene in the kitchen based on how the visible part of the restaurant looks. Luckily the food usually still tastes good. Usually.

Yelp
We came to Roxy's twice on our recent trip to Southall and the food did not disappoint! We came to eat their famous Makhi Methi Di Roti (Spiced Corn Flatbread with Fenugreek Leaves) and it was among the best I have ever had. We paired it with plain yogurt and butter (of course) and it was the perfect meal! We ordered the kids the Chole Bhaturay plate and it was a generous portion plate that they shared and thoroughly enjoyed. The service was a bit slower than I expected, but we were a large group, however we did tell them to bring the food as it was ready and not to wait for everything. The food did come out hot and tasty, so in the end it was worth it. A few days later, we were craving it again and ordered the Makhi Methi roti again for carry out and brought it home. It was excellent as usual!

Yelp
Average food.. staff overworked and tired... no ambience... Would not go back again..
