The Best Rooftop Bars and Restaurants in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Drag queens are the main attraction at this titanic compound of cocktails and theater, with food courtesy of Nicollet Diner on the first floor. There are not one but two outdoor lounges — Roxy’s Cabaret and On the Rox — here that offer tons of events each week including drag brunches, karaoke, industry night, trivia, and more. The diner’s menu runs the gamut from all-American breakfasts to burgers to sandwiches and is open for dine-in 24/7 on Friday and Saturday and from 7 a.m. to midnight the rest of the week. Book tickets to your chosen event online to ensure a seat." - Cinnamon Janzer

I am sure most people come here for drinks and drag, if you plan to go for dinner it may be the worst mistake, I got a double patty burger w/ a sunny side up egg and everything on it ($20). The burger itself had 0 seasoning on it, they say fresh burgers never frozen, they may want to rethink their idea since clearly it’s not helping. Incredibly greasy leaving the bottom bun sopping wet, fries were pretty bland as well. First walking in no one says a word to you, which is odd since you have to “wait to be seated” we went up to the top to sit outside which had numerous tables with food, drink, and garbage all over them. You get your food by speaking with the bartender (who was very polite and nice by the way) it’s simply a shame that he couldn’t get more help up there since he clearly needed it. The one and only good thing about this place WOULD have been that they validate parking, however it’s only $10 off if you stay in the ramp for 4 hours so we were unable to take advantage of that. I would never go again until they fix their food and get better and more assistance.

Great time tonight at Roxy’s Cabaret! The entertainers are amazing, the food and drinks are great too. Easy to park and safe to walk to. A must see if you are up for a fantastic evening in downtown Minneapolis!

Google
I've been to the cult cinema Sunday's and Saturday night drag show here and both were fantastic experiences! The staff were very friendly and experienced with the menu and willing to give their opinions on different items. The queens were all super fun and energetic and put on a great show. You can tip with venmo if you don't have cash but they do have a box of change that you can change out bigger bills into ones if you need it. All around a great show and a great experience!

Google
We had a wonderful time celebrating someone's birthday last Saturday night, laughing a lot and singing along! Don't forget your $1's. P.S. The campfire shake is AMAZING 🤤

Google
Went to the Glitz and Glam drag show hosted by Nina DiAngelo to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was so fun! I've been to a couple of drag shows, but this show was unlike the others - stunning outfits, amazing performances, and all the queens were hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing. They also tell you about their other shows/performances so you can find out what else to go to. Great place to support your local queens. The menu is the same as the Nicollet Diner so you get to enjoy classic diner food as well - shoutout the executive chef/GM for being a great host too. Thank you for a great night!

Google
While in MN, I came here for a night out. We had so much fun! The Queens were so entertaining and personable! They even took pictures on the rooftop, for free! The food was good, just need some more seasoning on the chicken. For the price, you get a lot of food. The wings were so big! The drink was tasty and it for sure made me feel good. If I ever come back to Minneapolis, definitely will be back. Please go and support!! Also, the staff were so nice! And attentive!

Google
We took a bunch of teenage girls, those drag queens interacted with them and had so much fun! Bring cash, they interact with the crowd alot and danced with everyone! Reba was an amazing look alike

Google
✨️STUNNING!!!✨️ Literally everyone, working and performing, was so delightful, talented, and doing the most!! Food and drinks were DE-fricking-licious!!! 🤩🤩🤩 We will be back!!!🥰💗✨️

Yelp
Do you want a place to embarrass your friends on their birthday (or at least make them get on stage and do a shot)? Roxy's is your place. We went to their drag brunch for a birthday, and absolutely milked it for all it was worth (the friend got lots of free drinks and we had a great time heckling them for their behavior after). The performers were a delight, and the opening number, which is CUSTOM composed, was very fun. The drinks were appropriately strong and campy, and I would absolutely go again. They also take Venmo, if you are like me and haven't carried cash since 2010, so that's a plus.

Yelp
So bummed by our experience. We signed up for tickets well in advance for drag queen charity bingo. We received several reminders, including text messages up to an hour prior asking for confirmation of our attendance. We were traveling a long distance to attend and made sure to confirm as prompted. When we finally get there, we ask someone at the host stand where bingo was being held. He responds with "Oh, it is canceled tonight." No explanation or apology. :-( They clearly had our contact information to continuously send reminders, so we were very frustrated to not be contacted when they knew the event wasn't happening. This would have been a 1-star, but we like that they frequently do help charities and support LGBTQ+ initiatives.

Yelp
Roxy's is great! I went for Drag Queen Charity Bingo and had a blast. Such an awesome concept for bingo. They raised over $1,000 for the charity! Cards are cash only. Bingo - 10/5 Monica West and Nina DiAngelo were fabulous hosts and bingo was so fun! I really enjoyed the unique rounds. Service - 4/5 Everyone was so kind! Though one extra server would have been nice. I felt bad for the one there, but she did great! Drinks - 4/5 I had the Minneapolitan and the Roxy's Old Fashioned. The old fashioned was great! The Minneapolitan was a little too sweet. Food - 4/5 I love that you can order breakfast in the evening! Though I opted for chicken wings and fries haha. The wings were good, though maybe a little too breaded. Fries were excellent! Parking can be a little tricky, as its only metered street parking.

Yelp
If you are looking for a good fun place to celebrate a benchmark with friends, I would recommend this place. If you are a single traveler and you like to watch drag queen shows, RUN OVER HERE. I came by myself and was a little nervous. I sat at the bar and had a great view. Having been to many drag queen shows in my lifetime outside MN, I noticed: * The ambiance is full of fun and festivity. * Staff works hard for their money * Food from the diner is very good - as a hungry vegetarian, I was in heaven with the veggie skillet. * Place is packed with people and groups from all sizes * First drag queen show I have ever attended where the show consist around giving $1 tips - you can get your dollars changed there. I like it and would recommend knowing that one will spend at least $60 - entrance plus one entree with food tip. It would be more if you get drinks and the recommended stack of $1 tips. I spent over $100 and I bet this is the norm.

Yelp
My coworker and I were finally able to attend a Thursday night bingo for charity and had a lot of fun! I didn't win bingo but I wasn't super bummed, the prizes seemed meh - we did wing some raffles and earned a bunch of money money for the charity. Monica West was a great host and Summer was a great attendant for drinks and food. We would definitely go again! Parking is easy, I can always find a meter not too far away. Docking a point since their vegan options are next to invisible. I hope they improve someday! I can really just get fries which were OK, very salty. Bingo was absolutely not crowded...It was a fun bunch and odds of getting bingo are higher since there weren't too many people in attendance.

Yelp
Drag Bingo is amazing. SO FUN!! As they say on their website, all ages are welcome. I probably wouldn't rush to bring young kids here, but it would be fine. Our waitress was fabulous. Our food was between good and fine. Quesadillas were perfect, onion rings were way too crispy and mostly breading. The sodas are all local places which I think is nice.

Yelp
Decided on a whim to purchase tickets...what a great time! There were five of us and we all ordered cocktails. Service was perfect. The food was excellent. Then the show started...so MUCH fun! Took my 80 year old mother and she had a blast. All the entertainers were fun and full of energy. Just had a great night. Thank you, Nina!

Yelp
We had the best time! Can't recommend Roxy's Cabaret high enough! Monica and Nina are amazing! The drinks were great! On The Rocks (upstairs) was so fun! Nicollet Diner was also delicious the next morning! Can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
Yes yes yes to all of it. The drinks are great, the food is good, we love the diner and the show is the BEST. I like that it's a smaller venue, it's more personal and you get up close to the performers. A word to the wise it is VERY VERY loud. It has to be to drown out the horror of us all singing along drunk as skunks as loud as possible. Bring earplugs. I did that the second time around and it was a game changer! You can hear everything and even your friends talking better and you aren't damaging your hearing! Bring LOTS of cash for tips. You can exchange 20's for 1's etc.. but be a pro and bring small bills and tip generously. They put this show on a couple times a night on the weekends and it's a boatload of effort. Pay them the equivalent of the joy and memories that your are experiencing! You can order food during the show, but my advice is maybe get some fries and stick to the delicious drinks, then hit the diner afterwards for a full drunk diner meal. Its better that way- I promise. Plus you can gush over your favorite songs and performers while stuffing your beautiful face. Roxy's is attached to the Nicollet Diner and it's open 24 hrs I think- even post COVID. I love the breakfast after a night of indulgence. They also have tasty ice cream shakes if you can eat dairy.. The bathrooms are non gender conforming, so if you can't manage a great time, tipping big, eating amazing diner food, supporting our LGBTQ ‍ community and performers then go find a Dennys in the suburbs.

Yelp
Love love LOVED it here at Roxy's! My boyfriend and I came here last night and had such a fun experience with all the queens. He's never been to a drag show, and this was the perfect icebreaker. Nina DiAngelo, Monica West, Tasha Long and Maxie were all incredible entertainers and great performers. Looking forward to seeing BeBe Zahara Benet next time! We will be coming back with more singles in hand!!! My only piece of advice is that it gets VERY loud very quickly in such a small space to perform. Earplugs are a good idea if you are hearing sensitive. Food and drink were all reasonably priced and the leg glasses were ADORABLE. Servers were all very pleasant!

Yelp
Great food and a great show.. went for drag brunch entertainment was brilliant.. we will certainly be back.. food was also great at Nicollet Diner!

Yelp
Had the best time for my mom's birthday! Already planning our next brunch! Service A+ (Greg).

Yelp
Went here for the first time for a drag bingo night on a Tuesday (proceeds go to a non profit of the week which is awesome!) It was very fun and each round was unique! Monica West was a hoot as the bingo host and knocked it out of the park with "Since You've Been Gone". Liked the array of no alcohol/mocktails on the menu. There was one server, Riley, for the whole room and she did a great job serving a lot of people. My bingo partner had a burger and fries which she enjoyed. I may have snuck a few fries. They were good. The room has lots of seating and a good vibe. I will definitely come back for more bingo fun.

Yelp
What an amazing place. We visited for Sunday drag brunch and could not have been happier with the experience. The entertainment was phenomenal. They do such a great job. The food and drink were so good. So many places have great entertainment but the food is subpar. This is definitely not true here. The food is excellent. Our table had a Sam's skillet, pancakes, eggs Benedict. It was all fantastic. The staff was amazing also. We will be back every time we come to the Twin Cities.

Yelp
Highly entertaining. The food is good, drinks are strong and the love stage shows are a great way to spend an evening.
google avatar

Yelp
Food excellent! From Brunch to Dinner yummy!! The shows are professional, funny, and creative! Don't forget your one dollars!!
google avatar

Yelp
Having a beautiful time at Roxy's Cabaret! We're celebrating my bestie's 30th with great food (quesadillas, sandwiches and fries) craft cocktails (we liked the aviator and the the limoncello spritzer) and awesome holiday themed drag! Can't recommend it enough!
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
It was an awesome show! Awesome brunch! Food came out quickly . Drinks are poured strong! Overall a nice Sunday.

Michael C.

Yelp
Visiting from Philly. Fantastic time. Top rate drag performers. Wicked funny emcee. Great energy

Jeff L.

Yelp
Great evening of fun and entertainment. Service was excellent and the performers were working it! Just wish there was a far better sound system- really bad reverb and poor quality that detracts from an otherwise top notch show. You go, girls!

Kenadie M.

Yelp
I have been here for kareoke, and this place is so fun!! They have such a chill environment and Michael was such a great bartender/server!
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
The food was really excellent the service was okay Thunder the manger was really chill but one of the bartenders was rude and disrespectful toward my friends and I

Rickie R.

Yelp
Was visiting from Chicago and went to the Sunday drag brunch with friends. The show was fantastic and the food was great. I've seen shows across the U.S. and internationally, and this is Top 10 for me. If Roxy's was in Chicago, I'd go every chance I could. It's not to be missed!!
google avatar

Nicholas D.

Yelp
Best place in town for a great show and to bring any and all out of town visitors. Been here several times and plan on coming back for many more!
google avatar

MF B.

Yelp
I usually catch the Tuesday show and they are great. Funny and entertaining, just an excellent show. Plus the food is tasty and I keep going back.
google avatar

Calvin M.

Yelp
Went there once, had fun, good food, and entertainment, everyone working was professional, I'll be back soon.
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
The entertainment was so fabulous, the food was amazing, but the music was turned up way too loud!! My Apple Watch wouldn't stop telling me that I was going to get "hearing damage". Had tinnitus issues for a few days after the show. I would definitely return to Roxy's but not until they make it safe for my hearing.

WestCoastYelper W.

Yelp
It's old school drag in good and bad ways. There is something that is particular to Minneapolis drag that I don't like: the queens just walk around and collect money with very little actual performance. I wish they would invite some younger queens in to innovate and make it more artful. Also it's insanely loud and very cold inside with cheap uncomfortable chairs. I want them to be successful but they need to evolve and not be stuck in the 1990's.
google avatar

Lois H.

Yelp
What a fun night!! Visiting family in Minneapolis, and my niece brought us here. I'd never been to a drag show. It was pure silly, campy, funny and outrageous in the best possible way. Highly recommended ... but only if you're looking for a fun evening.

Hannah F.

Yelp
Great food! Amazing service! Fun ambiance! Spotless Gender neutral restrooms, attentive servers and amazing drag performers
google avatar

Kathy Y.

Yelp
I went to the Beauty & Bubbles Brunch January 8 with two of my oldest friends because I wanted to be entertained. I also admire individuals who follow their passions and parlay them into professions. Loved this show, and it appears the rest of the audience did, too. There was so much energy and enthusiasm in the room because the performers were terrific. The venue was beautiful and the food and drinks were great. A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. We're planning to go again on a Friday night. You should, too.
google avatar

Asia H.

Yelp
The food is what you expect from a cute little diner downtown. The drag shows though?????? Literally off the charts. The vibes are IMPECCABLE. Absolutely bonkers. 10/10 would recommend bitches and bubbles on sundays.

Jessi R.

Yelp
My family was aggressively chased out of this restaurant today because a waiter named "Thunder" was offended that we sat down at an open table (one of many) without us seeing the Wait to be Seated sign.... He yelled continuously and then said he was going to call the cops on us after he came at us and my brother told him to get away from us. Have never had a worse experience.

Paul M.

Yelp
Just got home from my first experience here. This club dedicates one night EVERY WEEK to fundraising for a charity! The hosts are talented, charming and are able read the crowd to keep everyone engaged and entertained. Bartender made a perfect Manhattan, too. Will return and want to support a business that is giving back.
