12 Hawaiian Restaurants To Try in Portland - Eater Portland

"For a slight step up from L&L, diners can walk a block over to one of three Roxy’s located in an A-frame structure that looks like it could’ve been a former IHOP. The best bets are the garlic fried chicken or shoyu chicken — and even pre-COVID it was recommended to get food to-go due to limited seating. Order online for pickup." - Krista Garcia, Jenni Moore

Google
I tried the Kalbi Chicken and it was well priced for $12 esp. for portion-price, you get a lot of rice and a generous amount of chicken. However the chicken is a bit dry and quite tasty as I used to have one in Hawaii but the Mac salad is very good and service is fast and friendly. I will try the Kalbi Beef rib next time cuz it seems tasty 😋

Google
All-round a good experience. Having a customer dispenser for sauces is a great touch. Could use a bit more kick to the mac salad, maybe a little more pepper?

Google
Great food to be expected customer service for the northwest. Kinda like I’m here working why are you here eating. The two go hand and hand but sadly few customer service business can see the importance of this. Yes you can have great what gets someone to come back in good customer service otherwise people go elsewhere. The food is good but I go where they have customer service probably won’t be back.

I’ve been in Portland for two years and coming from a very multicultural place, it has been a struggle to find good food that’s not also considered high end, and expensive. I’ve had chicken from a few places who charge $20 alone for the chicken, use all organic, etc., and yet the chicken has that weird taste like it’s been microwaved or something. Their shredded shoyu chicken is out of this world tender and tasty. I’m blown away by it. The sides are also tasty, but this chicken is fire. And the meals are super large, while the prices aren’t. I made three meals out of one, breaking it down to about 5 bucks a meal. This will be a weekly staple from now on.

Google
An old favorite that I haven't been to in years... Still tasty; and pleasantly I don't feel like they've jacked up their prices and shrunk their portions like many other restaurants have. The best mac salad I've ever found.

Google
Rice was extremely stale, like so stale I couldn’t even chew it :( Shoyu chicken & mac salad were both great. They offer those “Hawaiian Sun” drinks in a wide variety of flavors, which I always love to get one of! Workers weren’t assholes :) Super cute atmosphere, however definitely needs more consistent clean-up throughout the day. Overall would have given 5 stars if it weren’t for the stale rice, it kind of broke my heart how horrifically stale it was that I had to completely skip it and not eat it altogether </3

Google
Use to be my go to but not anymore after I just have to wait 50 minutes for an order of shoyu chicken and garlic chicken and the only explanation they would give me was is we are working on it. I know it's not fast food but fine dining is faster than that. They also sent me an email that my order was ready but then I had to wait an additional 20 minutes. Why notify me if it isn't ready?! Not sure what's going wrong with this place hopefully they fix it.

Google
Went for the first time today (6/26/2025). Much smaller and crowded than I had imagined, but no big deal. We got a table for 4 inside. One of our party loved the teriyaki burger and the carrot "fries" where very good. Stay away from the fried chicken dishes (I had the pineapple chicken). Over-cooked, tough and dry. Bring your chewing teeth. Teriyaki sauce is just OK. Mac Salad is OK. Fried rice is OK. We'll go back, but NOT have their chicken dishes.

Yelp
I dream about this place. My roommate and I live in the pearl and drive all the way out here 1. Because it's delicious 2. Because the staff here are so friendly 3. There's nothing like left over Roxy's because the portions are HUGE.

Jane T.

Yelp
I've been going to Roxy's for years now! The Beaverton location is the best by far; clean, quick, and the staff are always SO friendly! The food portions are filling and I leave feeling satisfied every time if you're looking to satisfy your cravings, check out the Roxy's in Beaverton.

Yelp
Ambiance: 6/10 chill takeout vibes Service: 8/10 super friendly and very helpful staff. Food: 8/10 the portions are just insane. Absolutely love it. Noodles were amazing, chicken was a bit too charred but for the price on too good to go, this is an absolute bargain!
google avatar

Yelp
Roxy's Island Grill always satisfies our cravings! So good, especially their shoyu chicken. I love their teriyaki sauce, so I usually drench my rice with it. :) The ambiance and service is great. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I would note that ordering kalbi would add 15+ minutes to the wait time. So worth a visit!

Yelp
I've been an 808 grinds eater for a decade, but Roxy's has taken over as the best. Both are amazing imo. Roxy's has better Mac salad for my palate, and that's how I judge Hawaiian food. I Always get the kilbi ribs. Sometimes they are a little burnt. But they make up for it with large portions, and the times they don't overcook the food it's perfect. Always great service and a great staff. The noodles are amazing as well
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
They simply aren't what they used to be. That won't take away their high volume patronage, but the execution just isn't the same anymore. The various Katsu orders we had was overly deep-fried and hard as a rock. Crispy and moist simply is not part of the equation with our recent orders. We probably won't be back.
google avatar

Jailene C.

Yelp
Been here a few times and each time it has been good. Macaroni salad is great, garlic fried chicken is amazing! Portions are huge, super filling. Service is always casual and friendly. Tables are small but easy to sit in a group or w/ a date.

Yelp
Over cooked chicken and Mac salad is way thick like it is nothing but mayo in your mouth. My wife went in for Pineapple chicken New Year's Eve night. The chicken was over cooked and full of old grease then. I figured it was the end of the night and New Year's Eve so whatever I would go back when they were open and get it remade. Came back and did the same thing to me it was a line and I got my food in less than 5 minutes when people were waiting before me. I took the food and just left. Won't be going back to this Roxy's. There are better Roxy's in Portland and in Aloha. Someone needs to teach the person serving the food not to give customers old greasy food and throw sauce on it like it's fresh! A shame! Two stars because it wasn't a fuss about getting another plate but it should be one because like Britney, Oops they done it again!

Yelp
Delivered right on time food was warm and delicious, driver was very polite!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
ROXY'S ALWAYS HITS The one thing I miss about living in Beaverton/Portland or Oregon in general is shoyu chicken! Not sure why all the Hawaiian restaurants I've tried in The Bay never have shoyu chicken Roxy's has a pretty mean shoyu chicken, nice and sweet and the meat just falls apart and shreds so well. I always crave it and I'm always so happy when I'm able to stop by on my visits up here. I have to say though, it would be so much better if the rice wasn't so dry! It's fine when you drown it in the shoyu chicken sauce, but a nice sushi rice or densely packed jasmine rice would be perfect. This is why I don't like the spam musubis here.

Yelp
Last year, I inquired about getting a gift card for my 94 year old Father-in-Law at the Beaverton Roxy's. The employee said they get so many requests for gift cards but the owners are worried about the cards being scammed. So this year I drove over to the Aloha Roxy's to inquire. By the way most of the Roxy's do not have public telephone numbers so a customer must drive to the restaurant. I drove to the Aloha Roxy's today. I was told that the gift card purchase would only be for the Aloha Roxy's and that NOT ALL THE ROXY'S have gift cards available. I then asked if they could call the Roxy's that is closed to Tigard and they said they could not SINCE there is no phone number. I did not want to have to drive there only to be told that the particular restaurant in Sherwood was not doing the gift cards. Later in the afternoon, I found a phone number for the Tualatin Roxy's. The employee said that THERE IS AN EXTRA CHARGE (Activation fee) for purchasing a gift card and it depends on the amount. I was planning on purchase at least $30-$40 gift card. I told them that the staff at Aloha never told me that. I was only told that wherever the gift card is purchased that it is only for that particular restaurant. This is absolutely ridiculous was well. Roxy's you JUST LOST $40-$50 since I am taking my money to another local restaurant!

Yelp
Ive been looking and looking for a place similar to Onos BBQ, Roxy's got it! Service was quick despite being short handed (they had a sign right where you order saying they are understaffed). Big menu offered, some plates only available on certain days. Restaurant is what you'd expect, clean and they have an outdoor patio as well. Self serve sauces / utensils. I got the Kalbi chicken plate lunch and it was yummmy! Chicken was cooked great. Very juicy and flavorful. For sides I got the classic rice / veggies / mac. Veggies were simple, steamed, rice was on the dry side, but the mac was really good. If I were to do it again (and I will) I'd sub out the rice for $1 for either double mac or their fried noodles! You definitely get what you're paying for because they are beyond reasonably priced!!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
A good place to grab a quick bite, they only have 2 tables available to sit down and eat at. It's similar to L&L. Food portions are small and prices can be pricey.
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
Everything was just so so good. Pro tip don't get rice just all noodles and mac. You will thank me later.

Emis O.

Yelp
I got here at around 7:30pm and placed my order,I know they usually need a little bit to complete orders. I am not sure why today's experience was so unpleasant it's currently 8:10pm I am still waiting on my order. I over heard the kitchen staff arguing about making more food because they were out. The staff didn't have any communication on why there was a delay and they were in a rush to clean up and leave. I understand working in food can be long and stressful but I am also a firm believer is up holding good customer service. Also the food tasted really old.

Steve S.

Yelp
The food is good and consistent. The staff that work here though are not particularly friendly. We've been coming here for a few years but will most likely take it off the go to list.

Yelp
Pretty solid lunch from Roxy's! I went for half kahlua pork and half garlic chicken. I also added the rice, veggies, and noodles. The veggies are always so-so, but they break up the heaviness of the rest of the meal, so not a bad choice. Roxy's is always a good option - it doesn't blow my socks off, but they are almost always good. I do have to say portion size is always on point, lots of food!
google avatar

Frank J.

Yelp
Mighty decent meal at a very reasonable price. The meat is so tender, moist and tasty! I've stopped in here a few times and have never been disappointed. There's very limited seating inside but the do have an outdoor patio. If it's raining or cold at lunchtime you might be eating in your car but otherwise I've never had a problem finding a place to sit. Lots of parking. Best to enter and leave on Jenkins heading west. Navigating the traffic around Cedar Hills Blvd is insane. Staff is great. Very hard working and cheerful. There's usually a line but they do get you in and out quickly.
google avatar

Travis T.

Yelp
I ordered the plate lunch with half chicken katsu and half sweet garlic chicken. For sides I got white rice, fried noodles, and steamed veggies. The chicken seemed like good quality and the garlic chicken had great flavor. The katsu chicken was fried perfectly and the katsu sauce was good. My favorite of the two was probably the garlic, but it was close and I would definitely get both again. I wouldn't recommend the steamed veggies, they were just okay. I'll probably get a double portion of rice or noodles next time.

Yelp
first time at Roxy's Island Grill, i asked the lady i wanted meat & she picked this delicious plate for me.
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
This is the first time I ever had Hawaiian food so I really had no idea what to expect. I asked the lady what was best and she recommended doing half Shoyu and sweet garlic chicken. I'm so glad I went with that choice, just to get different flavors. But honestly my favorite part of it all was the macaroni salad. I could've eaten five more servings!! I also love how the restaurant looks. The inside is pretty basic with hand written signs. To me it shows what you are expecting of the food, where they don't put much effort to the looks but towards quality of food. top tier!
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
This place gets quite the crowd all throughout the day. I've tried a few different meats and they've all been solid. The sweet garlic chicken and kalua pork are my favorite. The mac salad is always decent as well. It's a bit pricey but I think it's worth it for the amount of food given. Definitely a quick and easy place to get lunch or dinner.

Amelia D.

Yelp
Food is similar to local Hawaiian plate. If you miss Hawaii foods, this is the place to go satisfy your cravingsHawaiian BBQ.

David B.

Yelp
The food is amazing, I haven't had Hawaiian food in a while, but this is a new standard.

Yelp
As a Hawaii-local born and raised I actually liked the taste of Roxy's. However, it is defined not worth the wait that I just endured. I ordered online at 12, processed in their system at 12:08. The online system says to wait 15-20 min for your order to process. Fine, so I come in at 12:35. The girl at the cash register tells me it will be another 10 min since they are so busy. That's fine I'll go get boba/ a drink in the mean time. I come back and wait and hear many names getting called. It's now 12:48, so I ask hey someone told me 10 min about 15 min ago I want to check on my name. She said oh well get that started now. I said, "wait what it isn't even started yet?" And she said, "yeah the chef only starts if we hand the plate to him." Uh okay but I've seen people who came in after I got my drink and receive their orders. Anyway the food ends up coming out in less than 10 min after they put it in--wow like magic! And they tell me that I can take a drink from the cooler for waiting...50 minutes. Yeah I just won't recommend this to a friend or anyone unless they have a lot of time to wait around. Or I guess you need to stand at the pickup and continuously check on your order like a Karen.

Rose F.

Yelp
I'm a delivery driver Uber Eats & Door Dash.......personally I love Roxy food but this location definitely has some issues. Guy at the front counter couldn't even find the order. Look at my phone to see what it was then he found it then he told me 10 minutes.. so I waited 10 minutes +5 and asked the person behind the counter putting the dishes together. Is this one about ready and she said we're working I said you've been working for 15 minutes and she said another 10 to 15 That's not acceptable... this is the only Roxies that I go to that I ever have to wait more than one or two minutes just so I can. When I came in there, there was one other person in there more drivers came in and he couldn't find those orders either so I don't know what's going on there but they need to get their act together ...My field of work time Time is money & half hour plus for a 1 dish order is ridiculous... nobody smile they don't even greet you nicely ....like yours convenience that's a shame. Did she take lessons from the other two locations Washington County Or.... they always treat you with a smile and hello. Make it slam its call ed Customer Service ..... definitely don't have the aloha spirits

Yelp
Haven't been here in awhile due to pandemic but am glad they're still here! I went at odd hours before dinner time and ordered two of their plates. They were all very friendly and busy, too. I got shoyu chicken which is shredded chicken. Afraid it was dry, it was not. Very flavorful but not too salty where you just taste shoyu (slightly sweet soy sauce). The lunch plate comes with 2 scoops of rice, one scoop of mac salad, and the main dish. The other plate I got was the galbi chicken. Or, kalbi. It's not what you think Korean-wise but they use similar seasoning and they grilled the chicken. Smelled nice and smoky (in a good way!) Some parts were a tad dry but overall good and again, not too salty and paired with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad. I am going to have a paragraph on their rice and mac salad (lol). Sometimes rice when it's to go can be as hard as rock (which I've experienced in the past) or mushy that babies can eat it. This was cooked nicely and yes I had to heat it up when it was dinner time, but it was still nice textured. The mac salad is my all time favorite. Still consistent in flavor all these years and I just love it. I should've just ordered a few more scoops as the onions, mayo, and other flavors were nicely balanced in my opinion. I've tried other mac salads and this is my all time fav. Since covid, prices of food went up which I TOTALLY understand and I thought Roxy's would boost up their dishes significantly but it was only $10 per plate! The portions were heartiful, too that I could have a couple days of leftovers!

Yelp
The BEST place to eat Hawaiian BBQ. Lots of meat options- my favorite is chicken katsu (hardy portion), one scoop of rice, two scoops of Mac salad (the BEST) and a side of steamed veggies. It's always a chill place to eat and hangout - especially with the reggae music playing.
google avatar

Beth E.

Yelp
Roxy's is still holding it down as the best Hawaiian restaurant in the Aloha/Beaverton/Hillsboro area (in my opinion). I've been going here for like a decade now, and I'm still so excited every time someone suggests Roxys for lunch. They remodeled the Cedar Hills location during Covid and it looks great. I love the outdoor seating. The food is still top notch and the Mac salad is still the best I've ever had. Pro tips: 1. You can order yakisoba noodles as a side and swap it out for rice. 10/10 stars. 2. The Kalbi takes about a 10-15 minute wait but is totally worth it I've tried most of their menu and never been let down. Everything is good.
google avatar

Shane W.

Yelp
We were very happy with our order. We thought the menu was not super user-friendly, but we asked about getting two types of meat in one plate, and they were very nice about it. Getting to taste a larger selection of meats made the experience more enjoyable. Our favorite sides were the noodles and the mac salad, which was very creamy. The kalua pork was a stand-out. We made it lava hot, and we really enjoyed the bold spicy flavor. We also thought we got a lot of food for the price.
google avatar

Kay L.

Yelp
I got the garlic chicken plate $12 + egg$1.25 add on, with plenty of chicken, rice and macroni salad. I finished it and was full. Friendly employees. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant.

Gretz T.

Yelp
This is the 3rd time my family was turned away by employees at the Cedar Hills location stating that they were all out of chicken. I offered to wait 30 min as the sign stated but the employee said they were closing early (This was 6:00 pm) and that they were unable to fill my order. This is so frustrating. We won't be back since this is the 3rd time in a row at this location. I tried to contact management before posting this but was unable to leave a message on their voicemail since it full.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Roxy's is always a win, I've never had a bad experience here over many visits. Posting the menus as of April 2023.
google avatar

Ginger B.

Yelp
Love the food here! Kahlua pork meal is so delicious, I could eat it everyday, macaroni salad is the best I've eaten (even mine or my Mom's) I can't say anything about any of the other food because since the first time years ago that I went here and tasted the Kahlua pork I always order the same thing
google avatar

Jul R.

Yelp
Worst Roxy's I have EVER been to!! Decided to stop by before heading home and what a mistake that was. Not made to order. Food looked like it has been sitting there from the lunch rush earlier that day. Should have known it was NOT fresh after being told it would take only 5 mins after I ordered two combo plates. Definitely wont be going back to that one.
google avatar

Nick H.

Yelp
They had better looking short ribs than any short ribs I have ever had. I don't remember what I had, but I'd try the entire menu just to be sure.
google avatar

Melinda G.

Yelp
Pretty good food at a decent price. I really enjoy their macaroni salad and teriyaki chicken. Very generous with their portions and the flavors are spot on! Great customer service and the like. They are always friendly and great with suggestions. I'm pretty picky about my macaroni salad but Roxy's is very good and you can tell it is freshly made. Kudos Roxy!

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I went to the Jenkins location this evening. So disappointing. There are self serve pumps for teriyaki and hot sauce where the utensils and napkins are. This evening there were kids playing with them and I didn't especially want to know what they'd been doing before messing with something I was potentially going to eat. I asked for one of the pre-filled containers back of the counter, as I hoped those would have been filled in a more sanitary environment. I was told that wasn't possible, as those were for to-go orders only. I said I was a to-go order. "For mobile to-go orders only." Really? Really. Customer service has always been spotty here. Now it's just untenable. Good bye Roxy's.

Yelp
Roxy's near Cedar Hill on Walker used to be great, but since they started in their new building on Jenkins Rd. and they started to franchise out all over the place, the quality has gone down. Still, with all my bashing, ROXY's is better than most Hawaiin food in Oregon and that is a fact. On the bashing side of the review, you shouldn't even get me started on the fly (yes flies and Gnat) control problem they have in their new building at the Jenkins Rd...I think they must leave their doors open a lot for fresh air or what have you. When I see a rail (line of food) that has even a single gnat flying around the food bins, it is just disgusting. The old A Frame building on Walker had it's own problems with bugs, but it's as if the bugs followed the sweet offerings of ROXY's to their new location. One cannot blame them in the least! If you find a ROXY's location where the employees keep their rail clean and food covered and are adept at catching bugs and preempting their breeding ground, then that ROXY's is for you!

Yelp
This place shares the same parking lot as a strip mall and a bowling alley. This time I ordered the pineapple chicken and garlic chicken. The chicken was fried just right this time. I really liked the flavor of both the pineapple and garlic. I got the white rice this time and it is better than the fried rice. The macaroni salad is good.
google avatar

Anne L.

Yelp
Ah so happy to get some Hawaii food in my belly before heading over to kingpin bowling for a birthday party. Parking gets pretty full around 7pm on a Friday evening but we found one right out front. The lady taking our order was friendly and you can see the staff working hard to get food orders out. We Ordered the chicken shoyo and steak. Can't go wrong. They call your name when your order is ready, so listen up. Get your own utensils. find an open seat. Waited maybe 10 mins or so. Meat was juicy and mouth watering. Mac was delish and portions were great!

Alessandra G.

Yelp
Best food I've tried in Oregon. Teriyaki beef was delicious, with rice & Mac salad. Just wow. Great serving size, friendly staff (& helpful). Will definitely return. Such a popular spot, saw probably 100 ppl in less than an hour, Short wait times too!
google avatar

Karla M.

Yelp
Had heard great things and they did not disappoint, food was fresh and pretty quick. The macaroni salad was very good!
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
I love island food, and I love making sure I'm eating at non-chain restaurants when I travel. The food was pretty good, the Mac salad was a little different from what I'm used to. More peppery, but still tasty. I was pretty bummed that they had run out of spam musubi, but what can you do. Next time!
google avatar

Rita S.

Yelp
My administrator made a group order to Roxy's for our first day back at work. I had pre-ordered an orange chicken meal. It came with orange chicken, macaroni salad, and two scoops of rice. The orange chicken was tough, completely dried out, and I could not taste any orange flavor. My jaw actually hurt after trying to chew the chicken because it was so hard. Was it old? Didn't seem fresh at all. The macaroni salad was decent, but pretty standard, and the rice was overcooked. No teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, etc. was given with the order. I did not finish the meal because of the chicken, and my stomach hurt for hours after eating just a part of the meal. I'm lucky this meal was free because it was overcooked and unappetizing.

Keeley H.

Yelp
Terrible customer service!! This place used to be my favorite for Hawaiian, but I will now take my business elsewhere. Came to pick up a take out order and it wasn't ready yet, but the girl said she would call out my name when it was ready. She never called out my name, and I had to ask again and she gave me the takeout that had been sitting on the counter for at least 30 mins originally saying it wasn't mine. She also requested to see my ID to make sure it matched while she didn't ask any of the other individuals who came to pick up their order. Discrimination at its finest!
google avatar

Tatiana C.

Yelp
Super delicious & GREAT customer service. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. Mac was tasty!!

Gina M.

Yelp
Food has gotten much worse since it changed hands. I ordered online for a pick up. 1/2 Teriyaki Chicken, extra teriyaki & Half garlic chicken. The Teriyaki Chicken had NO teriyaki sauce at all. The chicken is really fatty, mushy and a little gross. It seems like maybe its been sitting for a long time. The garlic chicken was cold but tasty. I did like the Mac. and the rice was ok. I'm really disappointed. It used to be my favorite place to eat. Its gone really downhill :(

Yelp
I honestly really wanted to like this place after craving Hawaiian food for so long...but it didn't live up to my expectations. We ordered 4 different dishes: kalbi chicken, kalua pork, sweet garlic chicken, and teriyaki chicken. The kalbi chicken and teriyaki chicken tasted fine but were pretty darn similar tasting...which was kind of disappointing. The kalua pork was way too salty, especially if you wanted to add sriracha or some other condiment on top. The taste of the sweet garlic chicken was fine but it was over fried/TOO crispy. The best part of the meals were the mac salad, which is honestly the best I've tasted from any Hawaiian restaurant...but the rest of the food left much to be desired.
