Roy Wilkins Park

A spacious park with tons of activities and a great recreation center. I always look forward to the Juneteenth celebrations and Vegan Fest here—such vibrant and joyful events!

I came on the weekend for a picnic in Jamaica, Queens. We found a spot for our blanket with no trouble and spent a relaxed couple of hours. I liked that dogs are allowed—I brought mine and it felt comfortable for everyone. I kept an eye on the time since the park closes at 9 pm, so we packed up without any rush. The running track and field look well kept; it’s nice to watch people train while you snack. The grounds felt tidy and safe, and the noise never got in the way of conversation. Great place for a calm afternoon. I’ll be back for a walk or an easy lap.

We attended a reunion here. The park is clean and well taken care of. There was lots of space so everyone wasn't bumping into each other. The reunion we attended was at picnic areas blue. It was not close to the parking lot. We had to walk a good distance. Also, the restroom that was visible to us was not close either it was across the lawn/field. O have to say the bathroom was clean and for a park bathroom. Floor was wet a little,but other than that, it was not bad, especially for what I've seen at other park bathrooms. This one had mirrors, soap, running water, and toilet paper. Other than that, everyone looked like they had a wonderful time. We even saw the ending of a cricket match happening when we went there. Which was a plus. Definitely would go back to this park and check out the other areas that are available.

Juneteenth Celebration was excellent Organized and no negatives incidents of note! Do it every year to commemorate

I went there to see the Universal Circus on the 6th the park is clean a huge.

Very nice park. Took forever to get to, but it was easy to navigate. Entry went quick & smooth. Plenty of restrooms available & they were in decent condition considering. Was lucky to be given a VIP bracelet, so I had a great view. #seanpaul #lloyd #mclyte 2024 Rise Up NYC Summer Concert

Roy Wilkins the historical park that has had many walks of life gather here for a good time and it's been happening for a long time. We gathered here yesterday to celebrate Juneteenth while Dj Envy and Dj Clue were on the turn tables.

They have a 400m track, and great field both kept in excellent condition they has a water bottle fountain and bathrooms, people play soccer and football and work out on the field, but it's never crowded. The rec center is clean with a nice 25yard pool, lots of classes all day, they have indoor and outdoor pickle ball, adult basketball and ping pong. Also it's open until 10. Most rec. centers close before 8.

About 2 weeks ago me and wife took our 3 year old son to see the universe soul circus. This was his first time to any circus. We took him to see the animals , but we found out the circus does not have the lions and tiger ,or elephant's etc. But I tell you my son enjoyed him self, so did me and my wife. From the acrobatics stunts ,to the tight rope walking ,clowns, the women walking under the fire bars. All the west indies style dancing made me feel like I was in the Caribbean cool. This circus was fire ,he laughed and yelled, stomped his feet like he was here before. Plus we had good floor seats. One of my favorite parts of the circus, was the motor cross flying through the air off the ramp. Don't forget the ring master was a good sport. This was definitely a great family experience, and memories that will last a lifetime. This will definitely be a family tradition to take him every year to this circus.

Came here for the Universal Soul Circus and had an awesome time. The park looked beautiful and well kept.

As one of the more prominent parks in the St. Albans area of the southern part of Jamaica, Queens, Roy Wilkins Park has had a lot of history in these parts prior to being named after the civil rights activist 3+ decades ago. It was initially the site the St. Albans Golf Course and Country Club, but after a stint as the St. Albans Naval Hospital during WWII (#1), the unoccupied land was recognized as this park in the 1976. It might not look like much to folks on the outside, but there's always something going on here. It's not uncommon to see folks training or getting their exercise on their track or various tennis/basketball/handball courts, and folks playing soccer or cricket. It is most definitely a place to run around and be away from the concrete villages of the rest of the NY. It is also a place for all things community. There are summer programs for kids, numerous adult activities that include concerts, carnivals and some of the biggest festivals in the borough. Regarding the latter, everyone owes it to themselves to check out the Jamaican Jerk Festival. Since a child, I have always enjoyed this park. The track was premium for jogging, the courts were guaranteed to be full of paddle ball players, the circus and other cultural events. Yesterday was a Vegan festival of Caribbean delights. The Soca music and spirit was vibrant and had me dancing. Some vendors had store fronts while others cooked from the heart at home. I thoroughly enjoyed the fried oyster mushrooms and cauliflower the most. The breading was superb while the veggies were still firm. A. mazing

Roy Wilkins is exactly what a neighborhood like Jamaica needs. Everyone has the same perceived notion that Jamaica is rough, hood & ghetto. I believe you can find that any part of the 5 boroughs. When you live in a community that has hair salons, Chinese takeout, chicken spots & insufficient grocery stores within a .5 mile radius of each other you NEED something to look forward to. Roy Wilkins provides that missing it factor the community needed. Roy Wilkins is a huge park that promotes wellness. It's named after the famed civil rights leader and former NAACP president. This is more than just a park it's a cultural landmark. The park houses The Black Spectrum Theatre, which promotes socially-conscious dramas. Also there's a four-acre vegetable garden that awards opportunities for the community to grow their own produce. How cool is that? You can catch inexpensive concerts & carnivals here. The facilities offered here range from tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, cricket fields, handball courts, playgrounds, running tracks, indoor pools, fitness equipment, Wi-Fi hot spots, spray showers & bathrooms.

great clean enviornment, but they should add some more decors to the place

If you ever get bored running the track do yourself a favor and run the entire park which is an unsuspecting challenging trail. The track is good later in the evening during the summer. You don't have as many kids on the track getting in your way. Every now and them someone will light up a cigarette which can be a real turn off. If your into soccer there are usually a few games going on every night.

They offer a program here were elementary school classes can learn to swim for free! What an awesome opportunity. There are 4 swim instructors and a life guard on duty. The teachers chill on the pool deck and watch the kiddies learn to swim. The instructors are strict and seem to be very experienced with working with children and are clearly great swimmers. They start off slow and soon the children go from afraid to be in the water to little sharks! The even more awesome thing is the children get a membership card and can come to Roy Wilkins for activities for free. With such a wide variety of different things they can do here it is a great opportunity for the children. It keeps them busy and active with no cost to the parents. This is a great park and their swimming class is just a bonus.

Roy Wilkins Recreation Center is named after a civil rights leader who also served as president of the NAACP. In addition to the 425-seat Black Spectrum Theatre (mentioned previously), the park has a four-acre community garden, basketball, handball and tennis courts, outdoor performance space, and an indoor pool. Location: Vicinity of Merrick Boulevard, 115th Avenue, 116th Avenue, and Baisley Boulevard.

I enjoy attending the annual sranan dei (surinamese day) here. It's a nice big park with plenty of shade.

I took swimming lessons here.i didn't know how to swim a bit and after 2 months I'm not a pro but I can swim and back float.

This park fills a void that's not available at near by Baisley Park. It has the typical basketball courts tennis courts found in nearby parks and even a nice garden section. I think in winter I saw a weight room but cannot verify what was in there as I did not use. What draws me to this park is the pool. I have been using for a year now. Normally in the winter to keep up my skills for scuba diving. Summer is good when hot and I do not want to go to the beach. I find it is clean and well maintained and never to crowded. If one cannot swim or wants to improve its a good place. I have seen postings for classes often. I have been to a few events like concerts in the park and visited a gospel revival tent. I find it to be a safe area. Like any area one must use be cautious. The park is serviced by the q85 and Q5 that has great service. I find it easier to get a bus doing events to avoid parking issues. The membership for this park as it has a pool increased to 150usd a year. One can thank Emperor Bloomberg for that. Its worth it as I get to use all parks in the system.

Very pleasant atmosphere! Loved the FRESH clowns. They were wonderful with my grandson (Keon).

Like This park think its the biggest Park in Southeast Queens..Sometimes they have concerts here and the circus etc...a great park to be in the Summer...

This is my local park, though I rarely use it. The only time I use it is to jog around the track. I use a NYC parks department gym in the city (East 54 Street) which is closer to my school. In the past, I've used the pool here. It's a typical pool-nothing special. They also have a basketball court. The park also hosts the Universoul Circus, a carnival, and various West Indian events. Local football teams train at the park. During the morning, seniors like to stroll around the track. This is a utilitarian park- it doesn't have the bells and whistles of parks in more affluent areas, but it gets the job done. I just wish that people threw trash in the garbage and not on the ground.

Great community space! Always nice to see local football teams practicing here and community members hitting the track! I've been away at school for a while, but every time I come back, this is where I go to work out!
