Roy Wilkins is exactly what a neighborhood like Jamaica needs. Everyone has the same perceived notion that Jamaica is rough, hood & ghetto. I believe you can find that any part of the 5 boroughs.
When you live in a community that has hair salons, Chinese takeout, chicken spots & insufficient grocery stores within a .5 mile radius of each other you NEED something to look forward to. Roy Wilkins provides that missing it factor the community needed.
Roy Wilkins is a huge park that promotes wellness. It's named after the famed civil rights leader and former NAACP president. This is more than just a park it's a cultural landmark.
The park houses The Black Spectrum Theatre, which promotes socially-conscious dramas. Also there's a four-acre vegetable garden that awards opportunities for the community to grow their own produce. How cool is that?
You can catch inexpensive concerts & carnivals here. The facilities offered here range from tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, cricket fields, handball courts, playgrounds, running tracks, indoor pools, fitness equipment, Wi-Fi hot spots, spray showers & bathrooms.
