Best Restaurants in Burien, Washington | Eater Seattle

"Western Washington is a competitive place to open an Indian restaurant, with plenty to choose from. And sadly, a significant amount of them can be mediocre at best. Burien may be slightly out of the way from the more well-known places, but it is well worth the trip. Royal Everest successfully showcases the diversity of the Indian culinary landscape by offering everything from momos (a dumpling eaten in the Himalayas, Nepal, and Tibet) as well as the more well-known fare of the plains region, such as curries and tandoori. But the quality and authenticity is what sets Royal Everest apart. Wherever the curries are this colorful, you can be sure the food is good." - Laura LeMoon

Google
Ordered the vegetarian dinner special for 2 and it was amazing! Huge portion sizes and everything was delicious. The variety was great too, you could easily order this 10+ times and still never get the same thing. Definitely coming back soon for this!!

Google
Delicious, Authentic & Super Clean! Absolutely love Royal Everest Cuisine! The food is 100% authentic Nepalese and Indian — full of flavor, fresh, and served hot. You can tell they really care about hygiene and quality. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Great customer service every time! Highly recommend for anyone craving real, home-style Indian or Nepalese food.

Google
Best Indian restaurant in the United States! Been on a quest to find an authentic South East Asian food for so long, I am very pleased to discover this place. The food is spectacular and amazingly authentic. They do not cheat you with their food like other Indian restaurants. The food is cooked properly with the taste it is supposed to have. The goat is tender and melts in your mouth. The tandoori chicken is smoked just like how it is cooked in the Nepali village. The customer service is also top-notch. They care about you. One time I came to their buffet at their almost closing time. They wanted me to check if I like the remaining food since the kitchen is closed before making a choice. And when I chose to eat buffet, they brought out new rice and new nan roti for me.

Google
Came to Seattle from out of town. Wanted Indian cuisine and chose Everest based on other reviews and proximity to our hotel. Waiter was polite and willing to help. My wife and I shared the chicken Tikka and each got a mango lassie so I can’t speak to anything else. Chicken was seasoned well and tasty. Naan was a little thicker than we are use to but was also good. Would recommend.

Google
This place used to be many things, now it’s a great place to get some delicious Indian food. Just happened to come in thinking it was still break time/ or CCs but it was so good we got some lamb and bread it was so good I can’t wait to bring my family back!!

Google
The chicken/garlic Naan was delicious! I am always a fan of the Butter chicken and paneer naan.

Google
Oredered the malai kabab for take-out. Got home to find mostly onion and a very tiny portion of chicken for $19, rip-off! The other dish I got(shahi korma) didn't taste too great either.

Google
I'm sorry I always forget to take pictures because it's so fing good. This place will give you a mouth gasm, even the condiments/chutneys don't stand a chance with me, I clean out the whole jars. This place is the BEEEEEEST! We have ordered a variety of things and all have been devoured with haste.

Yelp
I have been a couple times now and have enjoyed the meal each time. Last night we had a late dinner with my wife's sisters and brother-in-law. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala level 2, wife had Chicken Curry level 1. My brother had the same except goat. His wife had the Lamb Biryani. We ordered a garlic and plain naan. I think my wife's curry was spicier than my level 2. It was edible but a little too spicy for my wife's preference. I think that they use a base curry that they add spice to in order to increase the heat. Great depth of flavor that shows the sill level:

Yelp
Friendly staff, excellent tasting food, quick service, and very relaxing environment with good Indian music. The space was simple and laid back. Wish the naan bread was larger in size but they made up for it with good rice portions. Chicken tandoori was good and the servicer was very kind and patience with us.

Yelp
We stopped in for a bite after bowling. We got seated immediately and ordered Aloo Gobi, Coconut Curry with Chicken, and Tandoori Chicken. They were all out of the kitchen quickly and tasted delicious. The 2 of us had plenty to take home for leftovers. There was only one other customer in the restuarant with us at 5pm. The waiter said that most of their business is take out.

Yelp
Excellent Service, nice ambience and great food!! I've eaten here half a dozen times in last couple years and I really enjoy the numerous offerings on the menu If you like Indian food, you should definitely give this restaurant a try

Yelp
Good place for Indian food. I'm basic and usually get the butter chicken. It always comes out as I expect it. Servers are really nice and attentive. Restaurant is clean and inviting. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Went there tonight, it was our first visit. Service was excellent, food was timed perfectly! The dishes were enough to share and have take home. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
We've been a few times to Royal Everest and are glad to have a good Indian spot locally. The appetizers are good and we love the different varieties of Naan. Our go to are the chicken curry masala and butter chicken. Delicious!
google avatar

Linda N.

Yelp
Service is very attentive. Food was just okay in my opinion but the people beside me kept raving about how this place is the best in Burien. If you have an itch for nepalese/indian food this place will certainly scratch that itch; but better can be found if you're willing to drive to the Eastside. (My current preference is Turmeric Kitchen).
google avatar

Yelp
Really great Indian food. We had the chicken daal, chicken biryani, and chicken tikka masala. The food didn't sit really heavy which we were expecting after the amount we ate. Our main comments are that the spice scale is pretty tame and the dishes were a little sweeter than expected. The 4/5 biryani was starting to get spicy, but the 2/ 5 and 3/5 were very mild. The sweetness was not enough to keep me from wanting to eat here everyday and I hate sweet and savory food. The selection was huge. We didn't try any of the Nepalese dishes, so I can't comment on them.

Yelp
My go to spot for Indian south of Seattle. I will usually drive here from Renton when the cravings strike. The flavor is consistent, unlike some other places where it's obvious when another person is cooking for that day. The naan is on the smaller side, though, so make sure you get an order per-person! I usually get to-go, but service has always been very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Absolutely lovely addition to Burien! I arrived shortly after opening on a Saturday and was promptly greeted. Our server spoke very, very softly, but thankfully we were the only ones in the restaurant. On a busy evening I'd really struggle to hear him. I like that they took the guess work out of the spice level and explicitly state that it's Americanized. I opted for some veggie kofta, 4 stars. I wish I went with a 5, when they say Americanized they're not kidding! Garlic naan, of course, which was overall quite good. My dining partner is new to Indian cuisine and went with the chicken tikka masala, which was well received. They brought out a single plate of rice and let us know they'd be happy to bring more when needed. I washed it all down with a mango lemonade, which was delightful! While I was here 5 or 6 other people came in for pick up, all Caucasian, though they already straight up tell you it's Americanized and not authentic, so I suppose I'm not surprised. Overall I enjoyed my lunch, plenty of leftovers and I got my money worth, and I'd happily eat here again.

Yelp
Wow. I was new to Indian food, and while visiting my daughter and her BF, I, my BFF and "the kids" went to this amazing place. Delicious food. Tandoori Chicken, Coconut Curry Chicken (my fave), and other things I cannot remember the names of. I have had store-bought Naan many times, but their homemade Garlic Naan is heavenly. Fluffy with a little bit of crunch. SO delicious! For dessert, I got some gorgeous Chai Milk Tea and Rice Pudding, which is not like any I've had before. Their Rice Pudding is a but thinner, with pistachios and raisins. I absolutely went nuts over it. We all did! The wait staff was very friendly. I can see why my daughter and her boyfriend are in love with the place!

Yelp
The only thing I don't like about this place is that they're a 20 minute drive from my home, but I still make the trek. I've never had anything from the menu that I didn't love. The folks working there are very kind and are more than willing to explain anything that you may want advice on.
google avatar

Bright H.

Yelp
The food here was pretty good, I am personally a huge fun of Indian food, specifically Tikka Masala. The Tikka Masala was very flavorful, the Raita was fresh and creamy, the naan could've been thinner, it felt a little pizza dough, but that's just my personal preference. The staff working there were extremely pleasant. They were always looking for a way to help; moving empty plates out of our way and bringing us extra napkins and utensils when needed. They even asked if we wanted to me to a booth when we first sat at a smaller table in the center of the restaurant, which I thought was very thoughtful because although I wanted to move in my head, I wouldn't have asked if they hadn't asked me! The restaurant itself was very cozy and inviting. It was relatively lit, which I highly like about restaurants, I want to be able to see. Overall, great place.

Yelp
My daughter and I started with the Chai,,, very nice. We had paneer pakoras, and Butter paneer with plain naan. It was, all, fabulous! We just flew in from Georgia for a long weekend. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Lidya G.

Yelp
The quality of the food, service, and location were all exceptional. I am thoroughly impressed and will undoubtedly return in the future. Thank you for your excellent work.
google avatar

Yelp
Excited to be trying this place out after my friend invited me but I was unable to attend because he gave me the wrong date. So there I was, eager to indulge first in some chai to help calm the nerves. Such a treat to sit back and enjoy the Indian music while taking in the smell and taste of all the spices. Quality food made from quality ingredients! We ordered vegetarian samosas while we waited on the main dish, chicken palak. It was delicious! I was able to share the plate with my two kids so the portion size is nice. We had to try the desserts, naturally, and I'm glad we saved room (barely) because it was amazing. Guys, don't sleep on it he mango ice cream because it legit taste like mango. I got the gulab jamun (warm) and it was the perfect end to my last bit of chai. 5/5 would recommend!

Yelp
The BEST Indian food in Burien and Normandy park and Des Moines! Not just Indian food, also Himalayan They don't deliver but Uber eats will get you the food. The restaurant is very basic and no thrills but nice service. I wish they would up their game there but it's fine. I'll add some photos next time I eat there or order.

Yelp
Really pleased with our (party of two) first experience at this restaurant! We happened to be in the area, and in the mood for this type of cuisine, and Yelp led us here. The Tikka Masala (chicken) and Jalfrezi (fish) were both tasty, and the Garlic Naan was very good accompaniment. Our friendly and attentive server, Mohammad, brought us some more White Basmati Rice, just when we needed ( the original serving size was on the small side for two). We might try the Non-Vegetarian Dinner for Two next time. There will definitely be a next time. It was not hard to find nearby parking, despite the bustling dinner scene on this Burien street. We will be back to Burien too. Lots of interesting-looking eateries there.
google avatar

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
Loved dining here. Parking wasn't too bad in the Burien area. The service here was extremely friendly and prompt. They have a very extensive menu, and everything we tried was simply delicious with excellent flavor. Portion sizes are also very generous. Loved their mango lassi and desserts too!
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
Big fans on Indian and Nepalese food here, and Royal Everest scratched the itch we had for curries and creamy flavor packed dahl. The two of us went for the Vegetarian dinner for two. The "Dinners for Two" is the way to go, 100%. These dinners come with an appetizer, an order of their basic Dahl, two more entrees, white rice, and a dessert! The veggie pakoras were an awesome and interesting start. Then we opted for a couple more vegetarian mains to go with the dahl, one with Chana and Paneer, and one with peas and potatoes. We ended with a fries dough ball soaked in some kind of syrup - I can't remember the name, but it was just a few bites and was the perfect ending. We had SO many leftovers it was beautiful. We plan to go back soon and try two more main dishes with this Dinner for Two option. The table next to us was raving about the okra dish, so we'll try that one for sure. Can't wait!
google avatar

Ed C.

Yelp
We ate lunch at this restaurant and was very pleased with the service and ambience. Our waiter was very helpful in selecting the five dishes that we ordered --Dahl, chicken tiki masala, lamb korma, spinach paneer, and palak. Every dish was super tasty and delicious. The waiter was considerate and asked us how much heat (rating system) we wanted in the cooking. The meal came out hot and in time. We definitely enjoyed the meal and will come back to this quaint Burien location!

Jessica N.

Yelp
So flavourful and tender, we love the chicken tikka masala. The staff is friendly and helpful!
google avatar

Nancy W.

Yelp
My first time here as I usually go to Indian Bistro in Des Moines. In comparing the two, I would say the service here was above and beyond. As far as the quality of food and the amount given for the price, I have to say I find them comparable even though a friend of mine last night thought Royal Everest was so much better. Perhaps it's because what I ordered, which was butter chicken, came and was simply lukewarm and then I also had a big piece of cartilage which is never a good thing. I also ordered the cauliflower naan but quite honestly couldn't taste any cauliflower in it. I thought everything was very good, not exemplary.

Erica N.

Yelp
Worth the wait! Sometimes service can be a bit slow at times, so 4 stars instead of 5. But sooo happy that they brought this tasty restaurant to Burien! Masala chicken is a favorite, as well as the mixed naan and saag paneer. I love how they will make any of the vegetarian dishes vegan if you request it.

M W.

Yelp
small portions for the prices charged they dont fully simmer the butter curry or tikka masala sauce resulting in half done sauce (needs to be simmered darker)

Anna L.

Yelp
The food in Royal Everest is not consistent. Sometimes good, sometimes decent, sometimes bad. When it is bad, it is really bad. One time I had 2 dishes to go, they were both leftovers of leftovers. They were utterly uneatable, and highly possibly one could get sick from eating them. The other time, it was "much better", it was only leftover. It tasted only unpalatable. There were other times, the sauce was perhaps freshly cooked, but the chicken was old. Is the owner at peace with himself? Is it worth it?
google avatar

Rudy J.

Yelp
I've only gone for lunch and while it seems unassuming, it's a treasure. I've smelled the food coming from this place whenever I'm in the junction and it's always been a reminder "hey I'm need to try that place". Boy, am I glad I finally went. So far I've only had Indian basics (butter chicken, palak paneer, coconut curry, naan and samosas) but man have they all been dynamite. Service is super friendly. I can't wait to try more and move into the Nepali side of the menu. Lunch ambiance is quiet and calm. A great place to sit eat and think. A great place to dip your toe into Indian food if you looking to give it a try.
google avatar

Xibee M.

Yelp
Food is good, flavors for our curries were correct and not scrimped on in the spice department. The naan was yummy; samosas were thinly wrapped and crispy, great filling; the deserts a bit standard. My one complaint, no fresh sweet lassi. The mango lassi was tasty but overly thick and heavily sweetened. Service was courteous and efficient. Menu was the usual roster of Indian dishes, but offered great combination possibilities for their two-person dinner deal. Making all their dishes in either vegetarian or non-veg is their big plus. Decor is sadly lacking--looks like it used to be a bar or pizza place--but, BUT: Booths!!! Nice comfy seats! Just dress it up a bit. It's pricey enough that I might keep it to special occasions--ours came to ~$40 person--but it is delicious and plentiful.
google avatar

Cora H.

Yelp
Royal Everest is one of our favorite Indian restaurants around! The taste is very authentic, not light on spices. We always get the non-veg dinner for 2 which is $56 and comes with soooo much food that we always have leftovers. It's such a great deal. Our favorite dishes are the samosas, butter chicken, saag paneer, and mattar paneer. We recently tried the fried cauliflower appetizer and it is one of our new favorites. The same two gentlemen are always working and they are always a pleasure and attentive. It can be busy on a Friday or Saturday night but is worth the wait.
google avatar

Steven T.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The atmosphere is a smidge weird but the food definitely doesn't disappoint.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I ordered take out through doordash. The vegetable samosas were tasty, the shahi korma was rich and flavor full, the vindaloo was equally as good, and the naan was warm and tasty. So good! Only bad thing was they didn't send silverware, but we received some from our hotel.
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
Outstanding, beautiful presentation, out of this world flavors. Quiet, warm, memorable servers.

Joe S.

Yelp
The food is pretty good. Service is attentive and they are very quick. Interior of the restaurant isn't fancy but it's clean. The Meal for two options are a good bargain. Their naan is one of the best I've had in recent memory. Their onion kulcha and samosas are also good. I like that they leave the condiments out on the table for you when you dine in. If you get take out or delivery they give you the tiniest little cups so unfortunately you will need to order a side of them if you want any appreciable amount.
google avatar

Kim M.

Yelp
The best Indian food! No regrets. Place is empty but my whole family loved it. Medium spice is perfect. Love love love it
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
The food here is so delicious. My boyfriend and I came here this evening and we were food comatose afterwards. The spice is borderline between too hot which was nice and our server was friendly. The one thing was the calamari didn't come out with a whole lot in the portion, what you see in the picture is how much they gave us and for some reason it took a long time to arrive to our table. However, the flavor and the sauce and chutney provided were so excellent that we would order again despite the small amount.
google avatar

Yan L.

Yelp
The person that answered the phone is super helpful. I was able to get the information I needed for me to pick up the order on time. The tikka and butter chicken is mostly sauce and it's very watery. The taste wise for the sauce was pretty good. A decent amount of chicken but comes in a quart for take out. The must have is the mango lassi but it only comes in one side when ordering take out which is pretty small. The reason this didn't get higher stars was because I ate this at night and spent 30 mins on the toilet from a stomachache. That is unacceptable and means the food is probably not fresh. Definitely avoid if you don't want diarrhea.
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
Food was good service was good seems like a mom n pops owns it and still run it. One of the workers here will hustle you for wine so be careful lol. It's actually kinda funny on how he up sales his wine. But all in all they are good. So if you haven't been it's worth the try.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and the never disappoint. Amazing flavor profiles and the service is always first class. The gentleman that work are very nice and prompt. Thank you Royal Everest for creating deliscous food for me and my family

Kathy N.

Yelp
Excellent food and service!!. We will come back again soon. We made reservations for a group of 18 of us on Sunday afternoon. Everyone ordered different meals, and we were all very happy with the freshly made, warm food with delicious flavors. They accommodated one guest who wanted no spice, and one vegetarian. The curries were delicious, the Tandori meat dishes were seasoned just right. They also brought out extra rice and warm naan bread for the whole table. The meal for two with a variety of dishes fed a family of two adults and two boys , 5 and 10. With our large group it took about 20- 30 minutes from ordering until we received our main dishes, but we expected this and we weren't in a hurry. Appetizers were brought out right away. All main dishes were brought out by several servers at one time nice and warm. Dining here was a very pleasant experience. Sorry, forgot to take pictures.

Amber H.

Yelp
Royal Everest has been one of our top 2 favorite takeout restaurants since we moved to Burien 4 years ago. The food is always hot and ready when we arrive and the staff is friendly. We've tried a number of items on the menu over the years, including butter chicken, tikka masala, coconut curry, paneer palak, the appetizer platter and both the plain and garlic naan, and all have been very good. The Gobi Manchurian is outstanding and one of my personal favorites. However, Royal Everest's true shining star (in our opinions) is the veggie kofta. The sauce is rich, creamy, and decadent and the kofta is a perfect combination with the sauce. We've tried the lamb kofta, too, but we really prefer the veggie. It's so good that I had intense cravings for it while pregnant! All of the portions are also large, so we can usually get at least 2 meals out of one order. Highly recommend Royal Everest! We'll continue to be repeat customers for years to come.

Yelp
Mediocre restaurant. Not a lot of Indian/Nepali restaurants around this area so this is your place if you are craving Indian/Nepali food, you don't want to commute and/or you don't want to make it yourself. We ordered chicken biryani and coconut fish curry to go. Chicken biryani had literally only 4 chicken bites and tons of rice. Little mushy but flavorful. It would be great if they added more chicken and less water to the rice. Coconut fish curry was overly sweet. Coconut taste was missing. Not a fan. We walked in to the restaurant and ordered, no greetings no eye contact not even giving you a menu. What is that?

Meron K.

Yelp
If you have kids, don't come here! The server brought a couples of big size glass with water and told us he can take it to prevent spell. I said no in case we needed it for an emergency, so suddenly the water spelled, and the survey got upset. I asked why you guy a do have a kids cups or put a note outside We don't sureve kids. No answer but the server attitude was very bad and unprofessional. Ifheciyld he can through us out. Thanks to God we are in America!
google avatar

Raye T.

Yelp
This place is a gem. The food is wonderful and the staff are incredibly kind and generous. Yes, they are short-staffed, but the food came out in reasonable time, our water glasses were kept full, we were checked on multiple times, and the food was delicious (with very good portions). On the way out, they decided to top off our rice and side of pickles so we'd have full containers to bring home. Just WOW! Really amazing people who are doing their best. We will return!

Masil M.

Yelp
I picked up an order because something about cold wet weather really makes me crave Indian food. I got the meat meal for two because you got to choose something in each course. I chose the veggie samosa, aloo gobi, tandoori chicken, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, rice, and ice cream. It also came with raita, rice, and chutney. If that sounds like a lot of food, it absolutely is! It's easily enough food for a family of four. Since I got takeaway I didn't really notice the interior for seated dining but it seemed pretty basic. My food was ready in the time they said. It was well packaged so there were no spills on the way home. The food itself was quite good. The lamb vindaloo was the standout because the lamb was so tender! Everything else was tasty and the spice level was perfect. It was a good price for all of the food. Will definitely eat here again.

Sarfaraz K.

Yelp
Horrible food and service. so apparently if you call the restaurant you pay more then the prices on menu. But cheaper on group hub. Food was so bad I had to dip my dry naan in ranch. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
google avatar

Alekkz D.

Yelp
First off, the restaurant wasn't too busy and we got sat down pretty quickly. But that's about it for the 1 star they get for this place. Second, we had to wait a good 10 minutes before we had to flag down a person to get our order taken... since I wasn't too hungry I didn't realize we waited a good 40 minutes before we asked where our naan was? I would think that would come out at least 10 minutes after ordering but we finally decided to ask and the server who seemed completely clueless (asks "did you order any appetizers?") and I just kind of look at her just as confused as her... and I say, yes we ordered naan bread. So she brings it out about 5-10 mins after we mention our missing food. Immediately afterwards, I touch the naan to make sure it hasn't been sitting in the kitchen for too long... it was fairly warm but it was also burnt... now I hate to be that person to ask for a manager... but as we got our naan, a manager looking person happen to walk by but we just kept our mouths shut thinking the rest of our food will be out shortly. Now if the rest of our meal didn't come out within 5 mins of already having waited 50 minutes, then I'd like to speak to a manager. At this point of our evening, our server consistently went MIA and at one point she didn't even want to walk past our table so she came out and went back in to walk to the other side of the restaurant to avoid us. Eventually a different server who popped out of nowhere dropped off some share plates for us and says "your food will be out soon". She already knew how tense this whole situation has gotten. Finally our server brings us our food and of course I check the temperature again to make sure it hasn't been sitting around in the kitchen. I almost forgot to mention... in the 50 mins awaiting our food, we had a lot of time to observe others around us and mind you, we saw two tables being sat AFTER we ordered our food... and the most shocking part of this story is the fact that both those tables actually got their food and FINISHED their entire meal before we even got our APPETIZER??? How does that happen??? If you've made it this far in reading this review, by all means the two dishes we ordered tasted great (Shrimp Butter Masala & Tofu Tikka Masala). It was also our first time trying this place out and I was looking forward to trying the place out because of it's good reviews. However I was highly disappointed in our experience tonight.

Yelp
Such delicious food and provided a warm ambiance for my friend and I! Highly recommend and the service was great!

Yelp
I love this place! The food is delicious, it's clean and they give good service. Only complaint I would have is the calamari appetizer is way too expensive for the amount of squid that you get, but it's very good. Last time we came in, ordered the calamari and it came with only 8 medium size rings. We were disappointed.
