me and some coworkers came here after the YOUMACON anime convention on a Friday night. We shared our orders with each other and everything was BOSS'MATIC

I’ve had the pleasure of eating here for years. I’m especially thankful to the high quality service and personal service of their phenomenal manager Abdo and the young new waiters he’s trained to provide high quality service to me and my legal staff , family and friends. They assure my food is prepared to my liking and the food is fresh , seasoned and excellent. Abdo is always available to help you select your meal for the day and help you to create a new menu to fit your taste. I highly recommend the Royal Kabob as one of the top Mediterranean restaurants in Michigan and this part of the Country. Try it , you will love it. The food is great 🏆 Thank you Abdo and your staff for all the years of fine service. Attorney Bertram Johnson

Google
Food is great, but whoever this young lady is, should rethink her job choice, she sat here on the phone, her phone, I’m guessing she’s a waitress not a hostess, either way she didn’t acknowledge a single person who entered that door, 4 people including myself walked in and she just looked at us, and continued on with her business, mind you, this is the first person you see walking in, the LEAST you can do is say hello.

After 4 long years, we're back at one of our favorite restaurants in the metro Detroit area. We were greeted by Abdul the previous manager and Bouchra waited on us and provided great service. The lamb chili and Chicken Gallayah was excellent. The lamb chops could have been more tender and juicier. But overall great experience. We are happy that they are back in business with a soft opening.

Google
Took three people to take a simple order over the phone for a lunch combo. Instead of an upcharge for a smoothie as the drink for the lunch combo, was charged full price and not given the drink that comes with the combo. Better off ordering everything separately. Overpriced and bad service. Too many other options around.

Miguel H.

Google
The soup was hardy and tasty. Good home cooked soup. 👍🏽 The salmon dish was delicious rice was a bit clunky but overall cooked well, seasoned, juicy salmon. The salad was okay, the vegetables were chopped anyway type of way but overall good.

Google
Absolutely terrible experience. My $6.49 sandwich was slapped with an extra $2 charge for sauce that’s supposed to be included. When I asked about it, the lady working there was extremely unprofessional, completely dismissive, and acted like my money didn’t matter at all. It honestly felt like they think they can charge people whatever they want and get away with it. Avoid Royal Kebab — the overcharging is real, the customer service is awful, and that lady clearly doesn’t care about customers. Check your receipt or just don’t go.

Google
Absolutely disgusting experience at Royal Kabul today. We ordered a platter and halfway through eating, we found a long hair mixed into the food. I pointed it out immediately, expecting them to at least replace the dish or offer some kind of apology. Instead, they did nothing. No replacement, no discount, not even a proper acknowledgment. The fact that they didn’t offer to change the food or make it right says a lot about their hygiene standards and their customer service. Right now we’re literally feeling like throwing up just thinking about it. This was supposed to be a nice meal, but it turned into one of the most unhygienic and disappointing dining experiences we’ve ever had. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Fantastic! Chicken kabob with hummus and garlic sauce. Lamb Kafka! Wonderful. Everything was perfect... oh, and the service was excellent... good job, I will be back !

Yelp
Try this place for the first time. They've been closed for quite a while. Good food. Nothing spectacular. Very pricey. Service was good. The one thing I couldn't get over was the amount of garbage along the curb outside the restaurant. Probably from the grocery store across the street, but somebody should be responsible for all that

Yelp
Stopped in today after learning Royal Kabob reopened! So excited to read this after several attempts to visit since 2020. Remodeled restaurant looks wonderful and the garlic sauce was as remarkable as I remembered. Staff was knowledgeable and shared the menu is expanded with the same great recipes and same ownership. Highly recommend visiting if you're in the area!

Yelp
This place has reopened since it caught fire a few years ago during COVID. They remodeled and the place looks larger. I ordered take out which was a chicken Kabob with soup and rice. The food was good with a large portion of rice. The soup was tasty. I wasn't sure what it was called but it had chicken and was a little spicy. The prices were mid range. Some might consider them high but then again the price of everything has gone up. I'll go back.

Yelp
i took a fork full of the salad before i put dressing on it and found bugs walking in my salad. i'm disappointed and disgusted i will be going back when they open in the morning i need my money back plus some. this is not okay

Yelp
Just had a luncheon catered from here. The food was really good, all of it having great flavor. There was nothing bland about this food. A very nice display of food with a healthy and tasty dose of veggies. I'll definitely be checking out this place in person. I definitely recommend them for your catering needs as well. Thank you Royal Kabob! You did a great job!

Yelp
Standard Middle Eastern fare. Not my favorite, but we go frequently because of the convenient location. My husband and I typically get the platter for two and they let us split the large salad into a cup of soup and a small salad. It is plenty of food and we have leftovers for days! The grape leaves are my favorite, don't leave without trying one! Both the veggie and lamb ones are good. But the lamb ones are the best. The Gallayah is also mouth watering especially when you get it served on top of hummus. Request the freshest bread they have. Right out of the oven it is amazing! We have never had to wait for a table the service is quick but they don't rush you if you want to stick around.

Yelp
They had a fire and are closed for now, and that totally sucks!!! It was/is an especially high quality middle eastern restaurant. I can't wait until I can have their lemon oregano chicken again. And lamb vegetable soup. And hummus with lamb. And salads. And fresh juices. The service was always good, too. I hope they reopen!

Yelp
Back in town visiting my family. I swear it's nothing like food in Detroit. My sister scoop me up from the airport first thing she said was "bro, I know you're hungry?":) yup. Nestled away in Hamtramck right on the beaded path of Caniff St. Where all the cuisine is international & authentic. Discover Royal Kabob Mediterranean on a premium scale, already familiar with the menu my sister insisted on the Deboned chicken. Also, a gentleman suggested I try one of their fruit smoothies pssst.. it was dumb good;) I shared it with both my nieces and they concurred. Even though we got carryout the staff was very polite. Got home and all four of us smashed, and it was still food left over. The white meat chicken was uber moist, satisfying & just delicious the freshly made pita with garlic butter paired perfectly. All in all, it was excelente.

Yelp
Disappointed in my visit today. The kids asked where I wanted to go for noms, so I picked our favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Today's issue was with our waiter. He initially brought the wrong smoothie order, as he brought a single glass instead of the quart which was ordered. He then failed (I guess he decided that he had a great memory as he didn't write anything down when we ordered) with our food order, as we wanted the lemon oregano topping on our deboned chicken and it didn't come with that. One of my daughters also requested a side of grilled veggies with primarily carrots on it, and it showed up with a single carrot slice. And he was pretty much nowhere to be found for the entire meal. Now wishing we would have taken our business elsewhere today, especially considering how well of a job they've done on previous visits ...

Yelp
Friendly service combined with delicious food... I gave this place five stars! Very good and very authentic Arabic food. We had some hummus with Shawarma, some grape leaves and a couple of falafel sandwiches. Everything was excellent! And their fresh baked bread is delicious! I highly recommend!

Yelp
Lucky to have found Royal Kabob! Located on Caniff in Hamtramck, this wonderful middle eastern restaurant is a great find. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant that puts you steps away from the rear entrance. Upon entering, you are greeted with an amazing aroma that makes you excited to find out what exactly it is. The interior dining room is clean, light and airy. You can have your choice of a table of a small or large booth topped with bread plates and red cloth napkins adding a nice flare of color to the inner decor. You are immediately greeted by the servers with smiles, ice water, warm bread baskets and a yummy garlic sauce. The menu has traditional appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees, including many vegetarian options. My party opted for the half-size spinach salad topped with chicken breast, you can even add feta cheese for a nominal add on price. The food was fast and fresh and visually appealing. The server checked back frequently to make sure we were okay. In the future, whenever I am in the mood for great middle eastern food, Royal Kabob is at the top of my list!

Yelp
I stopped here for lunch this week when I heard this place was owned by the same owners as Malek Al Kabob in Taylor. The shish tawook sandwich was really good! I love their hot bread and garlic dip too! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of this place. I visited a friend who lives close by this place and we ate here two nights in a row while I was in town. YUM. The falafel was excellent. I thought the hummus could use a bit more salt and/or some other flavor (garlic, perhaps) but it was still creamy and good. The prices are great and the food is ready quickly. You can order ahead or stop in, either way you'll only wait about 10 minutes for an order for a few people. Parking lot behind the place is tiny so prepare to park in the street if need be. There's also limited seating inside so I think they mostly do takeout or delivery. I've never even been inside so I'm not sure what is happening in there but the food is delicious, even once you get it home.

Yelp
Royal Kabob. Why haven't I eaten at your place yet until so recently? I have missed out truly. The interior is clean, there are big pictures of random combos served in the place and theres a juice and icecream section at the very corner to the right of the restaurant. Anyway the waitress was very sweet, super quick service. We were instantly greeted with ice cold water, garlic sauce and pita bread. We order the combo for 8 people which came with falafel and grapeleaves for appetizers. Also baba ghanoush, tabbouli and hummus. As if the garlic sauce wasn't enough but we weren't complaining. Then came that special middle eastern salad that I could eat all day. So refreshing and citrusy. The kids stuffed their pita bubble breads with the salad and hummus and I'm sitting here thinking like whatever to have y'all eat them veggies lol. Better keep my mouth shut so they don't realize they're devouring greens. Then arrived the food platter. By now most of us have literally licked the appetizer plates clean and pristine but we weren't gonna give up. Most of us tried just tiny chunks or meet with like a scoop of rice then decided that we gotta take this business home, undo our belts then eat a little later when our greed kicks in. Fantastic food, served fresh, hot and absolutely delicious!!

Yelp
Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. All of the lovely standards plus an assortment of outstanding made-in-house treats like pickled veg and labneh and beautiful pita and garlic sauce...and quail! How many places serve quail? Dainty, delicious, difficult to work with wonderful quail! I like the shawarma plate-it's HUGE. Enough for 6 meals for me. The salad is bigger than my head and way more delicious. Unless you're a zombie I guess? Their rice is perfect, delicate yet deep. Like me. Heh. It is perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and perfectly balances any dish you eat it with. As a former chef, I really appreciate attention to detail. There are three things I notice when I am eating food someone else has prepared: the quality of the ingredients (check), the techniques used to prepare them (check), and creativity (check). The last may seem odd to some given how ubiquitous most of the menu's offerings are, but Royal Kabob puts a little twist on everything that elevates what is essentially home cooking to a really fine level. And it's all ridiculously reasonably priced.

Yelp
This used to be one of my go-to places but I was here tonight and BUGS literally crawled out from under my plate mid meal. I told my server (young, curly hair) and all he did was giggle and say "no way!" Then proceeded to charge us full price. So disgusted. I killed one bug and left it on the table for them to see. Will not be going back!!!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome server and customer service + the food was plentiful with large portions and tasty !

Yelp
Place was always busy prior to their fire. Food was excellent, staff was friendly, and owner was often on site. Rumor has it that it will be reopened and better.

Yelp
My friend's favorite restaurant in Detroit area. He ordered a chicken salad because he's on a diet ... whatever, lol. I ordered the Gallayah with choice of lamb and side of rice. The two of us could've split what was on the plate, it was huge! Very tasty with vegetables and herbs and sauce, mmm. The restaurant is very authentic Middle Eastern and Mediterranean, nothing too fancy except for the food and the great service. I will definitely come back on my next visit to Detroit.
google avatar

Nathaniel B.

Yelp
It's not that the food tasted bad; it just didn't taste very fresh. We ordered a platter and maybe that was a mistake. Food sat dull, lifeless and gray on its tray. We ate chicken and lamb without joy. Grape leaves and spinach pies were barely filled. Where this place plumbed new depths was the coffee, a thin, malodorous brew that was the worst I have drunk in my life and must have been wrung from an oily rag. Pita and garlic spread at the beginning was delicious.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
This place is so disappointing, and even more obnoxious is how everyone who doesn't live in Hamtramck seems to prop this place up as THE place to go for middle eastern food. No. Don't. Seriously every other spot around Hamtramck for this type of food is better (I highly recommend Ali Baba about 20 seconds down the same street). When I first moved to Hamtramck I ate here a few times - every time they messed up my order (e.g. wrong salad multiple times), and the service is inattentive and spacey. On top of this, it's way over-priced. Do yourself a favor and try one of the other 100 middle eastern places within the 2 mile radius.

Yelp
Judging by the growing sea of Arabic lettering on storefronts in this area of Hamtramck-In-Transition, I knew that I was about to get an authentic plate of healthy Middle Eastern grub. We parked in the "alley-lot" behind the restaurant and entered through a beige-colored steel-clad safety door off the parking lot. On the other side of the dreary door, I was pleased to see a clean, attractive and well-lit dining area. Our party of seven was quickly accomodated by pushing two 4-tops together and we were down to business. The few members of our group that were already big fans of Royal Kabob patiently led us through the offerings on the menu. I started with a cup of chicken veggie soup and it was awesome. I wished I had ordered a whole bowl instead of just a cup. It left a comforting warm glow in my mouth as I anticipated my main dish...Chicken Shawarma. It came with an option for rice or fries and I quickly jumped on the rice which arrived with delicious slivers of almonds mixed in. The generous mound of chicken meat on my plate was "right there"...tender and very flavorful. Judging by the size of their Fattoush salads and the Shawarma plates covering the top of our table, Royal Kabob provides great value for the buck and happily offers to doggy bag the leftovers. This being my first visit to Royal Kabob, it will definitely become a part of my regular lunch-out rotation in this area of Ham-Town. Five Yeas!

Yelp
I'm lucky enough to live near a ton of amazing, affordable, delicious middle eastern restaurants. The down side of this is that they can all get lumped together, and it's hard to distinguish one from another. I've driven past Royal Kabob more times than I can count, but never actually ate there until last night. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long! Here's the breakdown: The food: almost everything. The bread comes out hot and fresh. The servers are attentive without being overbearing. The food - oh my god - the food was SO good. My date and I shared the royal vegetarian meal; I was a little apprehensive given the $26 price tag. I had nothing to worry about, as it turns out - they gave us enough food for us both to have dinner, lunch today, and I still have food left over! Our meal included baba gannouj (my favorite!), hummus, tabbouli, fattoush, grape leaves, lentils, falafel, and rice pilaf. Everything was crazy delicious! The bad: not much; honestly; the restaurant was a little messy, but we got there at 8:30, and there didn't appear to be many people working. And with food that yummy, I'm willing to overlook it. I'll definitely be back!

Syed K.

Yelp
Royal Kabob! Definitely not going here ever again. Every time I try to place an order they have HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I tried to placing an order today they had me on hold for two hours, when they finally decided to take me off hold the guys says "I can't take your order anymore" and then hung up on me mind that they were the ones that left me on hold and when I called back asking why they can't take take my order when they're the ones who left me on hold the guy hung up on me again I would never recommend this place!! If was to rate them I wouldn't even give them 1 star. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE NEVER AGAIN. The workers are so unprofessional. If you'd like to waste your time I say you try them other wise no!!! These people have no manners at ALL.
google avatar

Jenna S.

Yelp
While I am not sure adventurous with Mediterranean food, this is definitely the best I have had! Stopped in for lunch and ordered a chicken shawarma & fries. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful. The fries were crisp and almost like a seasoned/beer batter-ish combo. Besides the chicken shawarma the real all star was the complimentary pita and garlic sauce. It was superb! Someone in our party ordered a salad and a full was huge, definitely two meals worth. Prices were really reasonable - especially with the pita & garlic spread that were out of this world.

Yelp
AMBIANCE: slightly dirty, bright lights but dark greys and Browns of paint and furniture made it look older. Not modern LOCATION: in the heart of hamtramck. Corner of one of the main streets. Easy access. Parking in the back. SERVICE: limited servers. Took a while to get service, order, get our food, and the bill. FOOD: delicious, flavorful, big portions that lasted me a couple of days. We got an assortment of dips, hummus, and I got a grilled chicken. No complaints on the food here. PRICING: decent price for the amount per serving. Can't complain if you are getting tons of food. $10-13/dish

Yelp
I'm happy to say that I've found another place to get great Middle Eastern food. I tried the lamb shawarma, chicken shawarma, and hummus while I was here. The hummus was yummy, but the highlight of that first course was the FRESH PITA. Very few places have been able to do pita like the old La Shish, but I think Royal Kabob has pulled it off. The lamb shawarma was about on par with the lamb shawarma at my other favorite Middle Eastern place, Sahara. However, the chicken shawarma was the best I've had to date at any restaurant - very tender and well spiced without being overbearing. My only issue with the place is that it's a mite hard to find parking, but that's a relatively minor quibble.
google avatar

Julian B.

Yelp
This place is nice. Well kept. Wonderful smells upon entering. Tried the lamb Kafta sandwich. Strong on quality and taste. Meat was moist and flavorful. Not dried out. Solid pita and garlic sauce. Mmmmm garlic sauce...
google avatar

Mamoon W.

Yelp
Came here after reading good reviews on Yelp! The reception was fast and attentive. However, overall speed of service was on the slower side. All and all, fair service. The garlic paste was awesome, and the bread was perfect. I could have just eaten that and be very happy with it. The salad was good, especially the cucumber part of it. I picked kebab platter, the meat was tough, chicken was soft but a bit dry. The minced Kebob had good taste and was fine. The veggies that were grilled with the Kebob were burnt to the core. Overall, the Kebobs were 3 stars, the rice was 4 stars, and the garlic paste and bread 5 stars. All in all a good restaurant.
google avatar

Shirletha B.

Yelp
On November 21, 2018, I ordered a carryout Lamb Chops dinner. The lamb chops and and rice dish was cooked to perfection BUT the Fattoush salad was horrible. The cabbage used( Instead of lettuce) was just swimming in the dressing and the pita chips were nonexistence. I have been a patron for the past few years and wonder,"What's going on Royal Kabob?" Approval: 195814
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
My food was ready when they said it would be. Facility is clean, staff is friendly. I ordered the Shish Kafta dinner (lamb). Portions are plenty large enough. Dinner came with 5.... meat sticks(?), way too much rice, a "side salad" which is large, a pita bread and garlic dip, all for about $14. I have no complaints. Will order food here again. I should've taken a picture but I was anxious to dive in.

Yelp
We absolutely LOVE Royal Kabob! I am assuming they had to close down for Covid-19, which really sucks because they have been one of our favorite places to frequent. PLEASE keep us posted!! :(
google avatar

Vershawn H.

Yelp
By far a little gem in Hamtramck... The entire menu is scrumptious!!! They make theeeee best garlic paste & they're homemade salad dressing is spectacular. If you order to go the wait isn't long at all. It's a cute little cozy family ran spot. Yummy yummyness
google avatar

Caity G.

Yelp
Ordered 4 chicken shawarmas and a fattoush salad to go. My order was ready right on time and was still nice and hot when I got there, while the salad was still cold. They put toasted pita pieces on top of the salad and it was amazing. The shawarma all came with garlic on the side which we didn't ask for but appreciated. Very good and very good price for how much food we got. Fed 4 people for a little over $20.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. I have not lived in the Detroit for 8 years but was back for work and went. Royal Kabob, royal kaboom!
google avatar

Nayema K.

Yelp
My family and my go to place for every special occasion. Delicious Mediterranean food for really good prices. You're guaranteed to have left overs. We usually get the deboned chicken BBQ style with rice and side salad. The best part is the free bread and garlic spread. I've never had anything like it and it is so so good.
google avatar

Zach K.

Yelp
Food is on par with other Middle Eastern joints in the neighborhood. I would definitely chose this spot over others for a sit down meal with a group because the bread and garlic sauce they provide is far and away the best quality in town.
google avatar

Flannary C.

Yelp
Royal Kebob is absolutely fantastic. The food is delicious and plentiful, all at a fair price. I've tried many of the entrees and have never been disappointed. The "Sautéed" stands out as one of my favorites along with the Shawarma Plate combo. I usually get the Sautéed and choose lamb for the meat and there's always enough food for at least one more meal. Two people can easily share any of these entrees. The little pillow puffs of pita bread along with garlic sauce to start and salad that come with the entree are pretty much a meal themselves. 1/2 order of just the fattoush is $4.99 and can easily be a meal. The home made dressing is always fresh and delicious as well. Service has always been friendly and attentive, even when they are busy.

Yelp
i miss u guys, please come back !!!!!! i saw there was a sign that said closed until further notice on the door. hopefully you all make a comeback.

Yelp
This is my favorite place ever. I lived down the street from them for 8 years and have never been disappointed. The combo for two is literally enough food for 6 people.

Yelp
3/18/2014 This is one of the non hole in the wall places in Hamtramck. A usual spot my friends and I go to for lunch in the area, especially if I am trying to be "healthy." I am definitely no dietician, but I feel pretty good and never regret eating here. The servers know us, but even if they didn't we would still get good service, because that's just how it is here. Our usual order is a whole Debone, but this time we got the half and also got the Cream Escallop Chicken, which was really good. It was a little bit on the dry side because it lacked the cream, but the sautéed mushrooms and the lightly breaded fried chicken tasted really good with the garlic sauce. The Debone is really good as well, but sometimes comes out a little bit too charred for me. I would definitely recommend this place if you are hungry and in the area. Make sure you have some time to eat so you can sit down, enjoy the food, and share a few ideas and laughs with friends.
google avatar

Stefania R.

Yelp
The food is always delicious. Your order is always right. Everyone that works there is amazing. I always judge a restaurant by their fattoush, and they have the best one hands down.

Yelp
I quietly made vulgar noises the whole time I was eating. Every single bite I put into my mouth was a near-euphoric experience and I'm still dreaming about it the morning after. The bread and garlic spread were the first to hit the table and my palate. Honestly, I could eat the condiment in spoonfulls - or let's just cut to the chase and hook it straight to my veins. The bread was puffed and sesame'd and perfect. The tabbouli was refreshing and the parsley was prepared just right - where you don't feel like you're chewing like a cow for twenty minutes on each bite nor are you picking out minuscule bits from your teeth for the next 12 hours. The shish tawook chicken was amazing - savory and bright and filling all at the same time. And you better believe I put the garlic spread on that, too. The restaurant itself is diner-esque, nice high ceiling, but with an odd choice of wall sponged-paint treatment. But did I care? No I did not, because my eyes were blurring from pleasure. Service was mildly disorganized. Again, I did not care because my cognitive functions were also disorganized from the flooring flavors of my meal. Super fresh food. Amazing layered flavors. Affordable (honestly, if you're not a huge eater, you can easily split one of their entrees with someone, get a side salad, and be pleasantly stuffed). The millionth reason why I think were I to move to Detroit, Hamtramck would be my jam.

Yelp
Omg I love this place I come here at least twice a month and I live quite a bit away. Love the garlic sauce I even order a dozen of their house bread and garlic to go. Lamb chops are amazing and the staff is always super friendly.
google avatar

Ray M.

Yelp
Been going here for the past 60 days or so. They by far have the best falafel sandwich out of all the places I've tried over the years. They get almost every detail spot on for every order. Great attention to detail. Everything made with care. Crushed lintel is very good also. Lots of customers cleans and food comes in a reasonable time
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
Pretty good stuff! I got 1 lamb shawarma and 1 chicken shawarma sandwich and ate half of each (each $3.95 and about 6" in size), and they were both tasty! The lamb has the slight edge, with the spices permeating the thinly sliced cuts of meat, but the chicken one was still well-seasoned. The pita bread was fluffy, light, and on the thinner side, but when it was nicely wrapped together, it provided the perfect balance from meat to bread ratio. Don't forget to add the toum, as it is nice and garlicky without being overkill for after lunch office visits. :) The restaurant was pretty full when I arrived around 1pm, but even with that, the take out orders were placed and taken cared of quickly. The lady and gentleman who serviced me were friendly, accommodating, and fun to talk to. :) They got it down to the T! Place is decently clean, but parking can be a bit of a hassle, I'll be sure to come back when I'm in the area again, and try more of their dishes!

Yelp
I only wish I lived in Detroit so I could enjoy this restaurant more often. I visited here after a friend's wedding at a nearby church and was starving! I knew I wanted hummus and based on another yelp review, decided to try the schwarma. To start things off, they brought us hummus, garlic paste, bread, and pickles/beets/peppers. The hummus was creamy and flavorful, the pickled veggies were tasty and the garlic paste was TO DIE FOR! My schwarma came out soon after and was great! The meat was juicy, flavorful and perfectly spiced. It was a big portion and hit the spot! Lastly, I must comment on the price. This place is a value! So cheap for the quality and quantity of food you get compared to fast food or any other restaurant. I would highly recommend Royal Kabob to anyone looking for some great food for a great value!

Yelp
We're from the San Francisco area where there is no shortage of great Mediterranean eateries--and Hamtramck Royal Kabob offers some of the best we've ever had. The restaurant is casual and feels more like a diner. They offer standard Mediterranean fare so no huge surprises on their menu, but the food is absolutely fantastic. Even though it was a Thursday night, the place consistently had people coming in for take-out or eat-in meals. When you eat in, they offer free on-site-baked pocket breads, which come with a vegetarian "garlic butter" that's absolutely to die for. We finally asked our server what it contained because it tasted so good, and the recipe is very simple--garlic, olive oil, a bit of lemon and jalapeño. You can see very small bits of green from the jalapeño, but it's not hot at all. Just a ton of flavor. If you like garlic, you will LOVE this. What a great option to plain butter (vegans would have no trouble eating here, that's for sure). We saw that the entrees were huge, so instead of ordering three different entrees, we mixed it up a bit. We ordered the "Royal Starter" appetizer with three classics of hummus, babaganoush, and tabouleh salad. Each came in its own container, and the serving size was very generous (especially the tabouleh). The hummus is much whiter than I'm used to seeing, but it's exceptionally smooth. The baba was also delicious, but the tabouleh was exceptional! Sometimes I run across tabouleh that's not minced finely enough, and the parsley feels overwhelming because you can feel the twigs and leaves, but this was not the case here. A deal for only $10.95 (and it can easily be eaten as a meal with the pocket breads). We also got the falafel hot appetizer. You don't get the rice and such, but as an app, only costs $8.95 and you get 8 or so. These aren't little baby falafel, either. They're the size of a mini-cupcake. Comes with yummy yogurt sauce. Ours came well-fried, which gave the outside a nice crunch. We'd pop a falafel into our pocket bread and eat it like a slider--talk about yummy! For our main entree, we ordered a chicken shish kafka ($17.95), which is basically an elongated meatball. We all agreed that this dish was a home run. We weren't exactly sure how it was flavored, but it tasted wonderful, and had a delicious complex flavor of many spices. As an entree, I think we got maybe 4 of 5 pieces (I lost count), but trust me--it's a huge entree. We ordered it with rice (seriously, who goes to a Mediterranean restaurant and orders fries?), and the rice basically covered the entire bottom layer of the plate; talk about a ton of food. These dishes fed three of us, and we wound up taking three boxes of leftovers back to our hotel room! Thank you so much, Detroit, for offering such a great little eatery. I'm giving this place 5 stars for our grand-slam dinner. [Speaking of which, congratulations on the ALDS division win for the Detroit Tigers. The team just won game 5 after we got back to our hotel.] For us, this is yet another great example of Yelp helping us find a great local independent eatery while we're on the road. We found that Royal Kabob was one of the highest rated independent eateries we could get to easily, and we weren't disappointed.
