Every Sunday is a new shopping adventure. The only year round indoor antiques and flea market in the area. Prices are reasonable and many dealers will haggle. Come early ( like 7 am ) for best selection

Google
A happenin place in Royal Oak, and a great place to host your event! We always attend the farmers market, flea market, and many other events that Royal Oak hosts here! We also had our wedding here last year. It was amazing and all of the staff (especially Paulette) are so kind and helpful. Have your wedding here if you’re considering it! You won’t regret it.

If you like natural sweet from organics, I can recommend corns and cherries. I should try the others as well!

The Royal Oak Farmers Market used to be my Saturday morning first stop. Now there is no parking, many of the vendors are gone and the prices are terrible. Sorry, but someone ruined a great thing. I hope they will consider the price to make it low.

Love the vendor selection and layout. Most vendors are inside. Seating options (if you get a pastry, coffee or smoothie) and bathroom is clean. Parking is close and free. Get there early, bring cash (although many take credit cards now) and your own bags. Be prepared to be wow'd!!!

I absolutely love the Royal Oak Farmers Market! The variety of fresh produce and unique products is unmatched. Whether you're looking for locally grown fruits and veggies, handmade crafts, or delicious food vendors, you'll find it all here. The market is always bustling with energy and the atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming. The staff and vendors are friendly and knowledgeable, and always happy to answer any questions. I highly recommend this market to anyone looking for a fun and authentic shopping experience. Don't miss out on this gem!

Google
The best farmers market around! Fantastic bakery and Pierogies too! We love the Heirloom tomato options and all the veggies you need! They also have a great meat and seafood vendor we love too. Need your knives sharpened? They do that too. Big fan of mushrooms, they have a sweet mushroom vendor. Pre-covid they had an incredible local kitchen too for breakfast and lunch. When it's open again, it's a must visit!

Nice place to buy from local vendors. The management is friendly and they keep the market things running smoothly.

Yelp
My review is about this venue as an event space. I attended a networking event at the RO Farmers Market on last week. I was first pleased with the parking. There's parking surrounding the building as it shares lot space with the municipal offices of the city. It's quite a large space, great for expos, fairs, etc. I could even see it as a wedding venue; which it likely is. The are food services spaces and bathrooms inside of the building, and a nice outdoor sitting/dining space.

Lindsey K.

Yelp
Excellent farmer's market for produce, plants, meats, and freshly made goods. I am in awe at all of the delicious findings at this market. So many markets these days are filled with ancillary items while the food takes a back seat. No shade to the soap makers, etc. as its nice to have all of that stuff too. I'm just overwhelmed at the bountiful choices of things to eat. I like that the market is in a building but still open air. It makes it more tolerable than being in the hot sun, particularly for those of us who ride our bikes and are happy to have the shade. As is usual, the best pickings are found early. Bring your reusable bags and come support your local growers and artists!

Yelp
Finally made a trip to Royal Oak Farmers Market and it did not disappoint! I lived basically across the street from the farmers market for a full year and never visited, and many years later, I finally manage a visit! The parking situation is interesting and seems small at first, but I think it's surprisingly a manageable amount of room for the traffic through Royal Oak Farmers Market. It might require a loop or two around either side of the farmers market building through. What's most attractive about this farmers market is that it's completely indoors, with a handful of vendors just outside the entrances, so this runs basically year round, which I love! It's one giant space inside, completely dog-friendly and there are bathrooms available for use as well! The vendors are lined up table next to table lining the perimeter of the building and a smaller circle in the center, allowing the walkways to be in between these two "circles" and allowing for the ability to loop around the entire building without much thought. There is a wonderful variety in vendors at the farmers market, plenty of produce-based vendors, organic produce in particular, plant sales, snacks, and more art/craft-based vendors too! They are basically a small version of Eastern Market if you can't make it out to Eastern Market! I was in a bit of a hurry this first time, so I was only able to do one quick loop around, but I am definitely excited to come back here soon to look in more depth at all that they have to offer because there is a TON! The prices also seem very reasonable as well. Love Royal Oak Farmers Market and I will definitely be coming back again soon, especially throughout the winter months! :)

Yelp
Indoor and outdoor Sunday flea market set up. Easy parking and fun quick morning outing. Lots of interesting tables selling their various interesting knickknacks and collectibles. They had a couple of food stands and bathrooms inside the building. We came out to see the crystal booth to view their selection. They had some really cute crystals to for sale. We will be back to check out the Saturday farmers market a different day.

Lori B.

Yelp
Great market!! Always new items!! Love buying from Peter, Rob , Craig & Scott! Fair & fun!

Nicole E.

Yelp
Small compared to eastern market but nice and close and a quick jaunt from the house. Best on Saturdays during the spring and summer season. Come earlier, it's slim or reduced pickings after 9am. Sunday is flea market, always interesting to browse the random articles for sale. I am glad we have this iconic spot in our town. They have food truck Wednesday's when the weather is warmer. Many social connection and living social events are held here too. Surprisingly peeps even hold their wedding receptions here during the summer months. It's a large and great open space for many diverse and cultural events and so conveniently located.

Jeff H.

Yelp
There was a vendor named Peter on Sundays Flea Market that was very rude! He was very unprofessional!

Eldwin L.

Yelp
Great little place that has multiple different events inside of the covered exhibit area. What was surprising was the expansive menu in the in-house Diner located in the corner of the building. You would picture shoddy concession food like most event spaces. But this was not the case The quality was quite good even serving breakfast and the area was very clean and reasonably priced A pleasant surprise to an already great day We definitely will come back for more events.

Mark C.

Yelp
Went up for the Shamrock and Shenanigans. Had really good time. There was a few different food vendors and beer area. I'm not a Bud or Bud light drinker so I was not in on that. The band Katie's Randy Cat were awesome, punk Irish music right in my wheel house. I sample food from four vendors I was happy with my choices. I had pierogies, potato pancakes, meatballs, and corned beef sandwich. All were very good. I took a picture of the menu to see where I my food. It was such a shame attendance was low but people were scared off by the Coronavirus threat. Maybe next year.

Christina L.

Yelp
Parking is free during the market hours. I live by Eastern Market, but thought I'd explore Royal Oak. It didn't disappoint! Probably not as good as Eastern market by vendor amt, but the abundance of food was definitely there. It's also nice that it's contained in one building. Less is sometimes more. What it's lacking is a cheaper meat market like Gratiot. I also like that Dirty Girl Farm as a shop here, definitely helps me explore the brand and new products. Plus, they let you sample things! $6 Traverse City cherries $5 plums $.50 ear of corn (have gotten it for 3/$1 elsewhere) $6 pints of blueberries $3-4 cauliflower Samples galore. Prices are decent and the crowd is friendly, except the old man who chose to ignore me when I asked him a direct question. Awkward. But other than that, I'm a fan.

Billy J.

Yelp
This is a very nice Farmers Market. I actually only go to this one once a year, but it's always the best one of the year. They have heat, it's all covered, and they have a restaurant in the place. This farmers market is a stable for Royal Oak, and it even has free parking! Double score. Make sure you check this one out if you're ever in town and something is going on here, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy this gem in the changing city, it will be a nice gem.

Yelp
Nice moderate size farmers Market right in the middle of the Royal Oak Business district. Has a pretty decent selection of fresh produce, various herbs, farm fresh meats, jerky, pastries, breads, teas, sauces, honey, fresh flowers, coffee and the list goes on.... Prices are a little higher than what I have seen at other farmers Market but the location in central Royal Oak cannot be beat. This is part of my weekly Saturday morning routine where I take a long walk with my son and grandson, stop at the farmers markets for a few items and to sample their food and stop at one of the many wonderful restaurants this town has to offer for a relaxing lunch. It really ends up being a wonderful day spending quality time with the family and enjoying all that Royal Oak has to offer.

Alfred B.

Yelp
I always have a nice time when I go to the Royal Oak Farmers Market. Along with being home to 'Dirty Girl Farm' - when they have a public event they really do it right. I attended Detroit Public Television's Kids Club Live event when Barney the Purple Dinosaur came to town. I had a wonderful time. Staff here work hard to keep the place neat and clean even during events that host hundreds to thousands of attendees. The parking is convenient and where there is a charge it is reasonably priced. During regular market times they have a very nice short order cook stand featuring pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers. Fries and drinks and other refreshments are available. Dirty Girl Farms is a permanet fixture at the location and an example of the other merchants that are available. Specialty clothing and fancy, imported coffee is also on site. The vendors that come during the week offer a wide variety of reasonably priced and useful items.

Shunda B.

Yelp
Sorry I can't necessarily review the "farmers market" but I can review the most of the venues hosted there but I've volunteered for most of them. Lol! (Don't judge me) The space, parking, staffing, and everything is wonderful - even during cold season; I never had an issue with being cold. Volunteers needs to stand near doors and I'm not freezing my butt off - it's awesome that they allow a variety of events to be hosted here without an issue. One day I will finally visit the actual "farmers market" if I don't have to work. Keep up the great work and helping other businesses.

Yelp
Food Truck Rally. Very crowded. Lots of choices. Needed to get here earlier. It started at 5 but I could not attend til 8. Still lots going on. Beef, mac n cheese, BBQ, weenies, pizza, hero and villain sandwiches, Turkish street food, home made ice cream, chicken and waffles and The Beignet Truck were all here. What is not to love? We had the Rollin Stone fired pizza and a dorn roll up from Mitta's Turkish street food truck. Rollin Stone pizzas we have had before an we love them. The dorn wrap was very good with chicken, red onions, pickles, tomatos and a slightly spicy sauce. Would not hesitate to get another. I think this event is once a month so get free and attend.

Yelp
We had a really good experience at the vegbash today. Parking was free which was awesome that the event arrange that. Sometimes parking in RO can be tricky especially when there are larger events. It was nice that the veg bash have a good signage to direct people where to go for parking and also for entry. The event had separate entry ways for people that were purchasing tickets at the door and also for people to have pre-purchased. We had a huge selection at veg bash of many vendors. One of the highlights for me of this event was the ability to try a place called, "Chili Mustard and Onion". This restaurant is going to be opening soon in downtown Detroit. It was honestly a great idea that they were at The farmers market for the veg bash. I was pleased that we got there early so that we could wait in shorter lines. The line was most busy for this place. I have to say though I really enjoy trying a veggie coney dog. Being vegetarian, I have never tried anything like that before. The flavours were great. The chilli was awesome and the mustard and onion on the top of the veggie dog made it all complete and flavorful. The other place that I had enjoyed was called Nosh Pit Detroit. For my first time ever, I tried a sandwich called "The Larry", which is a vegan Ruben. Again I thought that the beats and all the flavours of everything else that they put in the sandwich were very delicious. The Royal Oak farmer's market is a very nice venue. There is ample parking good signage good lighting and it was very clean. Probably will be going back here for another event.

Yelp
This was my first time to the farmer's market. Loved it, so much to choose from, fresh, and lots of variety. If you compare the quality of the food it is much fresher which makes it all worthwhile. It's just an awesomep place to visit in the weekends. good selection of vendors, and all are friendly and knowledgeable. The cafe has fair food and fair prices. Be sure to bring cash.

Libby F.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of the Sunday flea market here, but Saturdays are the new Sunday during the produce growing season. There are many booths to select from with prices pretty much the same at every both. I saw one guy that had Michigan rhubarb for a $1 a bunch. Another guy had it for a bit more, but the bunch was bigger. I was disappointed not to find Michigan corn yet. Some of the best deals are at the flower sellers outdoors. The selections are widely varied and the flowers are healthy. I still prefer the Oakland County Farmers Market though. Prices are cheaper there and I like strolling around outdoors rather than in the confines of a darkened building. Still, buying local is the way to go. Support your Michigan farmers!

Yelp
I'm so happy that a farmers market like this exists close to my house. I've never been here before, but I decided to go check it out one Saturday morning. What an awesome experience! Everyone was so nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. I will definitely back to pick up some delicious, locally grown produce!

John H.

Yelp
I love a Farmers' Market that looks like it could stay open nearly all year, and ROFM fits that category: enclosed, large space, surrounded by paved parking. Saturday morning parking was tight, but we patiently drove round and round, and finally found a place. Great vegetables, including some really unusual mushrooms (which ended up in the background of my photo). Being a cloudy, cold Saturday morning, I definitely felt like I needed some carbs to go with my coffee. I found some great donuts, and beautiful pies, three varieties of blueberry. So, I bought a blueberry lattice pie for the road. Postscript: I drove 1500 miles in a week+, and gained exactly four pounds. Pound two gained here.

Dawn V.

Yelp
What is not to love about this facility?!!?? On Saturdays, I'm here scouting out Dirty Girl Tree Farm products, (beauty items), and homemade treats for my dogs, as well as produce. And the facility makes an awesome venue for special events. I've been to Tastefest, BaconFest, etc where there are a number of vendors, a dj, outdoor tables, etc and it makes for a great night out. The venue seems to attract a really nice crowd that supports the community with plenty of parking. (12 hour meters within the lot here! Plus two hours free in the garages)

Melissa L.

Yelp
As a RO resident for a number of years, I can't believe that I haven't visited the farmer's market until now. Well, I guess I can believe it because I am a late waker. I came here early at 7:30am and the market was already buzzing. This is ten times bigger than the Birmingham Farmer's Market (or more). I try to shop for organic produce when I can, and I was happy to see at least two veggie vendors. This time, I only bought veggies from Cinzori, and was excited by the variety that they have. The prices were as expected for organic, but I believe probably cheaper than buying them at Whole Foods ($3.50/lb of zucchini vs $1 each). I bought some hard to find organic kohlrabi, purple potatoes, and purple green beans. They also had fresh herbs, leafy greens, etc. I look forward to cooking them! I was also searching for organic eggs, and perhaps I missed them or they weren't here that day, but I found eggs at 3 chicks & a coop. It was pricey at $7, but if their chickens are happy, free range, and if they feed them organic feed, it's worth it to me. All in all, I was happy with my purchases. However, I do wish that they had organic meat vendors. That would save me a trip to the market.

Yelp
I genuinely love when a city devotes a full on space to their farmer's market so I was already ready to love the Royal Oak Farmer's Market before I ever stepped foot in there (Ann Arbor's market is another standout). Being that it's not terribly close to my house I actually hadn't been prior to this past weekend but I'm so glad I was able to pop by when I was in the area. Especially since corn is in season! There is plenty to choose from here--from dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese), baked goods, McClure's pickles and other canned/jarred goods, farm fresh meats, and of course stellar produce. I also saw some of my beloved chanterelle mushrooms (although they were still pricey so I didn't partake but it was exciting to see them for the first time at a market nonetheless). As I mentioned I got tons of delicious Michigan sweet corn but I also picked up some fabulous juicy peaches and some sweet cherries to boot! The farmers and their staff at the stalls are great to chat with and the prices are fair for fresh, local goods. It's also not tough to still find some tasty eats later in the day (if you're like me and not an early riser). The parking lot can be crowded and it's metered so bring some change. There also isn't as much to choose from by way of premade eats like some markets I've been to so don't come terribly hungry unless you're cool with a hot dog or burger from the little cafe or are ok with just filling up on fruit as you stroll along. If this were closer to my house (or if I were a better early riser) you can bet I'd be here every week!

Yelp
As the winners to a pair of tickets to Indulgence 2018 @yelp; we had a Blast. This was truly a wonderful experience. Everyone was so comfortable and friendly. The various dessert and drinks were simply AMAZING. LOL, I'm still trying to get out of bed . Although there was so many people, it remained clean inside. People were really respecting the establishment. We're looking forward to Indulgence 2019.

Yelp
I was disappointed, half my fault, in my visit to the Royal Oak Farmer's Market. I went looking for a farmer's market and instead got a mini-antique festival (clearly advertised on the side of the building). The vendors there seem to be regulars with items that haven't sold in thirty years. We were in and out within 10 minutes.

Karen W.

Yelp
I frequent the RO farmers market every week or two on a Saturday morning. I like to get their early and beat the crowd, plus the parking lot gets kind of insane after 10am! Don't expect Eastern Market variety but for a small market it's nice. I enjoy getting produce from local farmers and checking out the interesting vendors. Most vendors are reasonably priced as well. You can get farm fresh eggs, meats, fruits and veggies, flowers, handmade soaps, fresh baked breads and pastries and granola. I even enjoy their little coffee stand. It's a nice way to spend a Saturday morning.

Chelsea K.

Yelp
We had our wedding here a few years ago and love attending events in this space! What a fun way to bring the community together!

Holly S.

Yelp
I like this place, but I don't love it. I frequent here a couple times a month and whenever I go the stands are never consistent. Either the vendors aren't there or they are outta things when I get there (which isn't their fault, but I would always come prepared and have extra of the things that sell the best) Anyways, 4/5 stars because I still like it but I just go in with lower expectations :)

Tamara Y.

Yelp
I generally enjoy frequenting the RO farmer's market for the eggs and chicken. Since buying farm laid eggs, I quit buying eggs from the supermarket -- there really IS a big difference. You can also buy duck eggs more often than not, which I enjoy. Otto's chicken has FABULOUS chicken. if you want a nice fat roasting chicken, this is the place to go. This is also a great place to come in the spring for garden plants. The produce tends to be of good quality, but is also pretty high priced considering that much of it is NOT organic. (The organic places have plenty of signs identifying themselves.) Aside from meat and produce, there are a lot of people hawking their specialty products -- salad dressing, shortbread, salsa, cheesecake, tamales, kombucha, etc. etc. Some are MUCH BETTER than others. The shortbread is awesome, but certainly not something I can eat all of the time.

Aaron P.

Yelp
This farmers market has everything. This is a place you can take the whole family and experience a fun filled day and get some delicious food.

Robert P.

Yelp
I enjoyed the ribfest here we did luck out and get parking so if you don't realize that when they say free parking and free admission that the lot is maybe about only a couple cars and you should plan ahead then you can end up wasting a lot of your day.

Sara A.

Yelp
Looking for locally grown produce in a metro area? Then make a stop in to Royal Oak's Farmers Market. Help on Saturdays from 7-3pm year round this local farmers market offers patrons a chance to get great deals on tasty and local produce. With a huge number of vendors the market does not't offer just fresh fruits and veggies. In addition, shoppers can grab dairy products, handicrafts, baked goods, and more. I highly recommend grabbing some handmade caramels that are decadent and buttery goodness. And some homemade salsa from the salsa guy. The Royal Oak Farmer's market is certainly much smaller than Detroit's Eastern Market, but it still packs a serious punch. For more information check out the city of Royal Oak's website.

Chelsea O.

Yelp
I went during the food truck rally so this review is specific to that event. Really wasn't bad but was extremely crowded and hot when I went and the lines for every truck were at least 20-40 people deep. That's fine and to be expected but just a little too much for my personal enjoyment. I should have went when it first started. I will say though I discovered the most amazing pizza ever there though by Rolling Stone. SO. DELICIOUS. AHHHH I WISH THEY WEREN'T ALWAYS IN DETROIT OR I WOULD EAT THEIR PIZZA CONSTANTLY. Okay, so it was really good like I said. The Beignet Truck was also awesome with their chocolate sauce and raspberries. They were immediately inhaled.

Nijole T.

Yelp
Fabulous Farmers market! I had been there the weekend before for the flea market and since that was such a great experience I knew I had to stop and check out the farmers market as well. Since we were on our way back to Columbus the next day I couldn't get any fresh veggies but I did get to sample so man goodies and check out what they had to offer! A huge selection of fruit, veggies and local vendors with honey, jams, bread and other desserts everything was great, local and fun to browse. Worth the drive, prices were average, great one stop shopping!

Corey H.

Yelp
I attended the brew and bacon bash. There were a ton of people and long lines but they moved fairly quickly. The food was great and a ton of it. A few places did run out of food. I'd recommend going exactly at opening. There was bacon everything including ice cream and pastries. All that bacon wasn't good for the heart but I'd go back.

Carey C.

Yelp
Always something fun going on at the ROFM. I've been to Baconfests, Beerfests, Whiskeyfests, Dessert fests, and Food Truck events. This most recent being the Indulgence Fest, featuring after dinner drinks and desserts. Oh jeez, hot off the press mini donuts drizzled with chocolate, yes please!

Eddie N.

Yelp
Stumbled in on Wednesday night, realized it was the food truck rally. Oh my god this is food truck heaven. I had no idea. If you like food trucks this is the place to be. Too many selections to choose from. So far the food is great. I found my favorite place in Royal Oak.

Melissa P.

Yelp
We love the RO farmers market and are so fortunate to be walking distance from it. The vendors always have such fresh fruit and veggies and high quality products! You can get anything from salsa, pierogi's, amazing homemade desserts and cheese, etc. The flower vendors are also my favorite - such a large variety of pretty and fresh flowers! There's also some very cool craftwork and handmade vendors too such as a handmade wood cutting block vendor and a vendor that makes stylish homemade pillows. You can also find books and other random house accessories. Also, the breakfast cafe is great! It's small but they have fast service and diner style breakfast. I would definitely recommend going to the RO farmers market and checking it out if you've never been!

Rob F.

Yelp
Absolutely, hands down, the best Farmer's Market in Metro Detroit. This summer we've saught out all the markets within 25 miles of us, including trips to Eastern Market, Plymouth, Oakland County (pontiac), and many more. The quality and variety at Royal Oak is unparalleled at any other markets that we visited. Not only do they have a great selection, they have 2 certified organic growers (haven't even seen 1 at any other markets) and multiple local/ethically raised livestock farms. One booth does solely grass-fed beef while another does chicken, pork, and other animal products. A third has great eggs and fresh cheese. There's always something exciting and seasonal from cherries and blueberries to apples and squashes. Top it off with a booth that sells dried beans and flour and another that does fresh syrup and it's a chef's dream come true. We drive 35 minutes to get to this farmer's market and we go every single Saturday. Yeah, it's that awesome.

Carole H.

Yelp
Nice venue for a variety of events. From VodkaVodka, to the Summer Beer Fest, to Whiskey Business, everything always runs smoothly here. A good amount of parking is available, and it's easy to get to - esp if you come straight up 11 mile and avoid the downtown crowd. It's a simple, open space, but they always manage to do it up real nice with a great lay out and cute lighting. I haven't really attended their actual farmer's market, so I can't speak on that, but for special events, the Farmer's Market always does it well!

Art R.

Yelp
Why five stars? Because the farmers market is something every community should have, it represents many a cottage industry of gardening, etc, within the community and shows social activity and involvement within that same community. Above and beyond, our farmers market location also doubles, triples, and quadruples as a multi-use forum from everything from grocery, to variety events, to Arts and crafts, and it acts as a polling station every four years as well. The market is a great time and offer s a wide variety of local vegetables, the events are normally local yet quality, the building is often tied to the arts and crafts events held in Royal Oak, and as a polling station, it's one of those get in, get out, get on with your life-type deals. If you're in the neighborhood or visiting Royal Oak I recommended the farmers market which is open every weekend 12 months a year.

Rebecca B.

Yelp
We bought radishes and got a parking ticket. $52 dollars (and the radishes were only $2...). I usually go to a different farmers market because this one is expensive. I mean it is okay, but careful where you park. I won't be back.

Jean P.

Yelp
I haven't been to the Royal Oak Farmers Market in probably 15 years, and back then it was pretty lame - very few vendors, dark, boring. WOW has it changed!! I rode my bike up there this morning, thinking that my extra-large backpack could hold any goodies that I might find - WRONG! The place was so jam-packed with goodies, I could have filled 5 backpacks! Plenty of gorgeous produce, and the farmers/vendors can tell you exactly how & where everything was grown, plus often the best way to prepare it (I found nearly everyone wanted to share their favorite methods even if I didn't ask). Several hormone-free, pasture-raised meat vendors were there too, plus some with cheese, eggs, and I believe one offering raw milk. In addition to the fresh stuff, there were also some organic dried beans, granola, freshly made salsas, pestos, & nut butters, bread & pastry vendors, natural bath products, and an odd assortment of antique and estate sale type booths. I wanted some of EVERYTHING (well, no antiques, but everything else) and it was probably a good thing that I only brought the one backpack because there are a finite number of meals in a week and some of it probably would have gone bad. I'm DEFINITELY going back next week! As another reviewer mentioned, parking can be an issue. If you ride your bike, there are bike racks next door at the library. If you're in a car, there is a large municipal lot in between City Hall and the backs of the Main St stores, that one was not full despite the gridlock surrounding the Farmers Market lot. It is very crowded so leave the strollers at home if at all possible! Bring your patience, your appetite, and your own tote bags. Support local farmers, your tastebuds will thank you!

Yelp
So, for years I have been venturing to the big D for Eastern Market festivities on Saturday mornings. They have everything there, why would I want to go anywhere else, right? Well, sure, except I live just five minutes away from a perfectly good farmers market in downtown Royal Oak. I have made only one attempt aside from today to go to the market, I was disappointed only because I misinterpreted the "open Saturday and Sunday from 7-1" as the "farmers market" is open during those times. I ventured over there on a Sunday and was met with quite a few vendors sporting their wares - mostly forgotten treasures of times past, the "perfect" piece for some aficionado's collection, or simply one person's junk that will become something wonderful to someone else. A nice concept, but to be honest, not the most amazing flea market I have been to. Today, I decided that I would wake up and go to the market, not the big one downtown, but the one in my own neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised, and to be honest a bit disappointed. Please don't take my disappointment the wrong way, everything was great, lots of fun people to look at, lots of nice things to purchase, but I fear it's just too early in the season for the wonders of fresh produce - although if you enjoy asparagus, it was bountiful! I was met with a plethora of vegetation. A jungle of flowers, herbs, succulents, ferns, grasses, greens, vegetable plants, fruit trees, and anything else you could think of that grows out of the ground in Michigan. It was wonderful - if I just didn't live in an apartment... I looked around and around, and there just didn't seem to be anything that I could cook up for dinner tonight. I ventured around the building some more, and was met with various vendors toting their handmade soaps, honey, pickles, cookies, and even a dairy farm selling fresh milk and eggs. There was a mushroom man with several plates full of Morel's...I really wanted to pick some of those babies up.. Rounding the last corner, there was an orchard present with every color apple you would want, and on the other side a farm toting rhubarb and salad greens (as well as the asparagus I spoke of). I should make mention that the vendors here are very generous. One vendor out of Warren Michigan asked me if I had had any of his breads before, I responded with no, and he handed me some wonderful nine-grain bread covered in tomatoes garlic and onion. He said "take this and enjoy." It was very sweet of him. I am sure that I will purchase some of his goods next time I am there, as the sample he gave me was wonderful. So, I gave the Royal Oak Farmers Market only four stars not because it was bad in any way, but because I didn't really feel as if I had the full experience, it being so early in the season. Maybe I'll re-visit this review later this summer.

Yelp
Damn I love this place. I used to go practically every weekend and then I stopped for awhile. Well I'm back in the groove and so happy. This place is great, for one its heated and warm in the winter. It has an amazing selection of MI produce and vendors selling everything from cutting boards to Carmel corn. The only thing that bums me out is how early they close on Sat. 1:00 pm. Sad as it might seem it's hard for me to get up and out that early. I wish they stayed open a wee bit later. Check out the market on Sunday when it's flea market day and they're open till 3:00. I've scored some of my greatest finds there back in the day. One time I went for corn and I came home with a couch.

Yelp
The Detroit area is fortunate to have several real farmers' markets: The Eastern Market, the Oakland County Farmers' Market and the Royal Oak Farmers' Market. Of these, the R.O. Market is my favorite. The R.O. offers a good selection of produce from the common to the fairly obscure (e.g., Arkansas Black apples). Most compellingly, the sellers are the farmers themselves, who personally unload their just-picked produce onto long tables for sale. If you visit the R.O., also consider a stop at nearby Superior Fish, whose offerings are unparalleled in Metro Detroit.

Yelp
We just went for the first time this past weekend. And managed to spend probably $75. Yikes. Granted, we did buy some things we normally wouldn't (maple syrup and grain-fed beef) but still. I wasn't expecting that! If you are not a big fan of crowds, this might not be the place for you. There is VERY limited parking in the lot (with the number of people trying to park there) and we ended up a few blocks away on a side street. I have been told that's perfectly acceptable for Royal Oak but I'm a small town girl who is used to plenty of parking right outside the door. It also felt a little cramped walking around--there were just SO many people there! (It probably didn't help that we had a stroller with us.) That said, the vendors were great. Everyone was really nice and didn't mind taking the time to answer questions (maple syrup guy, I'm talking to you!). The amount of food available was staggering, and the samples are dangerous--they make you want to buy everything! We will certainly go back and fight the crowds because the product was that good...but we don't feel we have to go every weekend. Oh, and be sure to bring cash--from what we saw, only a few vendors take credit cards.

Yelp
Being new to this area, I absolutely wanted to check on the farmers market. The location is great, right in downtown Royal Oak but I wish there was more of an outdoor as well as the indoor area. I know that it protects them (and us) but when buying fresh produce it is nice to be out in the fresh air. I love the history of the market. That it is a continuous market since 1925 is a local history treasure. Before sustainable was cool, before the market was cool, it was a great place for farmers to sell their goods and the people to buy fresh food. The selection is very good! You can see examples of all the great fresh fruit and vegetables that make Michigan the best state for a diversity of produce. I have special appreciation for Thomas Organic Creamery. There were lots of samples to try. I think that is important when plunking down $6 for a quart of yogurt. Buyer beware that you are buying the most delicious yogurt of your life! I've been back a few times including for the flea market. But the great thing about a farmers market is that there are different treasures to find every time. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I've been going here regularly since I was a little girl, and It's been consistently wonderful over the years. I usually go on market day on Saturday mornings (they also have a flea market on Sunday mornings) and I love the mix of vendors. Most of it is affordable, fresh food. But strewn throughout are booths of eclectic, quirky vintage, some extremely overpriced, but some the complete opposite, you just have to look. I also find, bath/body products, flowers, and so on. Hampshire Farms makes amazing bread - try it! Dirty Girl Farms make wonderful bath and body products. Steve, a kind little old man who sells newspaper and candy, is a wonderful soul who I always go visit. He will most likely give your kids a little treat free, like he always did for me. He's been there for years and continues to get my support And I wish I remembered the name of the vendor that makes my favorite granola, which is made with peanut butter and coconut. If you see this, BUY IT! All in all, I love the ROFM and would highly recommend it.
