LA's Best Pop-Ups Of 2020

"Beautiful plating, dishes served with a side of social justice, and pies so indulgent you’ll feel like you’re eating the rich? It’s a pretty tall (and oddly specific) order, but somehow, Rose + Rye was able to fill it. My favorite dessert pop-up of the year did everything from holding cake auctions in honor of Breonna Taylor to educating their followers on democratizing food systems, and somehow, they still found time to create something called a “Banana Nutella pie” - a heavenly, decadent confection filled with, like, a pound of chocolate pudding, Nutella cream, and real golden flakes. And to answer your question, yes, it tastes as delicious and hedonistic as it sounds. - KH" - brant cox, kat hong, brett keating, james montgomery

Let me just say that after having simit in Constantinople / Istanbul and then trying it here at Royal Pastry, definitely I vote for Royal. GREAT JOB guys. Croissant was exquisite, light and airy, full of butter flavor, and each layer was evenly cooked. I'm yet try their cakes, that's for next time. I recommend 👌 wholeheartedly! I did notice some of the low-star reviews that point to pricing and lack of price tags. As you may see in my photos all items have tags, perhaps this is after-effect; nevertheless it tells me they listen to what customers want. Maybe let's tell businesses how to improve on spot rather than posting. I can say that prices rose everywhere and not just in bakeries

This place cheats you. When you buy by the pound, they include the heavy box as the weight. The pastries are also one of the poorest qualities I have tried in all of Los Angeles. So stale and dry. Why go here when there's an Armenian or Persian pastry on every other street? Royal Pastry I won't be buying from you again. Two times I tried, and twice I had a poor experience. I don't know how you're in business. Especially because the owner is so unpleasant and rude. STAY AWAY FROM HERE unless you want to waste your money and time.

This is one of the best bakeries I have found in the larger Los Angeles area. The pistachio cake is to die for drizzled dark chocolate. Savory cookies are a special treat. And the showstopper is the sweet cheese pastries only served on the weekends. I buy them in bulk now. The bakery is very small with only a few seats outside, I would recommend this as a spot to pick up and take elsewhere to enjoy.

One of the few Turkish bakeries around OC/LA. I tried acma, pogca, simit, kadayif, ay coregi and everything tasted pretty good. Almost as good as the ones in Turkey. They don't have a lot of drink options.

I recently visited this bakery and I must say, it was an amazing experience! The aroma of freshly baked goods wafting through the air was enough to get my mouth watering. The simit, baklava, and birthday cakes were all exceptional in taste and presentation. The simit was perfectly crispy and golden brown, and the baklava was sweet and flaky. I was blown away by the taste and quality of the birthday cakes - they were moist, fluffy, and absolutely delicious! But it wasn't just the food that impressed me - the service was top-notch as well. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home. They were knowledgeable about their products and even gave me some great recommendations. Overall, I can't recommend this bakery enough! Whether you're in the mood for a sweet treat or looking for the perfect birthday cake, this bakery has it all. With their excellent service, delicious food, and welcoming atmosphere, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Five stars!

I am so happy I have found this Turkish bakery. I have now been back twice to get their Simit which is a Turkish ring bread covered in sesames. It's the 1st one I've been able to find outside of Istanbul that taste correct. The story is run by people from Istanbul so it makes it even better. Also tried their baklava and it was delicious as well as their profiteroles which are also delicious. You can't go wrong.
