"The Royal Opera House standsright in the middle of the city and is also a key part of its cultural and culinary life. Home to several outstanding restaurants, this is still the country’s main venue for opera and ballet. There’s been an opera house on this site for centuries but the current building opened in 1898. The interior is stunning, with a red-and-gold auditorium and the famous gold foyer, which you can visit during the intermission. The program usually includes many of the best-known operas along withlesser-known works."

I was wondering when I would come here again, so I booked and watched the performance here. The inside was narrower than I thought. Therefore, anyone sitting in a side seat at least a little bit would not have seen the stage. I watched the Giselle performance here, and I don't know if you will perform Giselle here again, but I hope you don't sit on the left side if you do. I don't recommend that seat because the main character mainly performs on the left. My neck and shoulders hurt because I sat there. But it is a beautiful space if you look at it as a place! It would be better if you look up the explanation of this building on the Internet as a building with a long history.

Not my favourite opera I’ve been to, but quite beautiful. More of a classical look compared to the one you can find in Copenhagen. Saw Romeo and Juliet and it was very well done!

A luxurious room, and comfortable seating. There was a ballet apparently, Romeo and Juliet. The orchestra did a great job, the music was very enjoyable. On the stage, well it's best described as a lot of people milling around at the edge of the stage. They walked, ran off, even skipped out of sight and often came back out of breath. I'm not sure what they were doing on the rest of the stage, but I'm sure it must have been ballet. In short, these seats are not fit for sale for a visual performance. Be careful booking here. The bar, cloakroom and toilet facilities are also due for modernisation. They're not sufficient to the numbers of people squeezed in. Something went wrong with the booking as well, we were charged 6 coats overall (2 were needed.) So also be careful what you book in advance, it's not necessary, there's no advantage.

Visiting the Royal Swedish Opera (Kungliga Operan) was one of the most memorable highlights of my stop in Stockholm while on a cruise. Even if you don’t catch a performance, the building alone is worth seeing—both outside and in. But if you do have time for a show or a guided tour, you’ll walk away with a deep appreciation for Sweden’s artistic and cultural richness. The Opera House is located right at Gustav Adolfs Torg, in the heart of the city, and is an architectural masterpiece. Its majestic neoclassical exterior gives way to a lavish interior filled with gold accents, red velvet seating, ornate chandeliers, and grand staircases. Everything about the atmosphere is elegant yet inviting. I didn’t attend a full opera or ballet performance during my visit, but I did join a guided tour, which was absolutely worth it. It offered a glimpse into both the front-of-house beauty and the behind-the-scenes workings of this historic venue. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate, sharing stories about the building’s history since its opening in 1898, as well as fun facts about Swedish royal connections to the arts. If you’re planning a longer visit in Stockholm, I highly recommend checking their calendar. The Royal Swedish Opera hosts an incredible lineup of opera, ballet, and orchestral performances, and the acoustics are said to be world-class. Even for those who aren’t usually into opera, this is a cultural experience that’s truly special. The opera house is also located near many other attractions, including the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan, so it’s easy to fit into a day of sightseeing. Whether you’re an architecture lover, music enthusiast, or just a curious traveler, the Royal Swedish Opera is a must-visit. It beautifully blends tradition, history, and world-class performance under one stunning roof.

Absolutely a great place to see when you are in the town. I bought a cheap last minute ticket to a balett that I actually enjoyed a lot too. The building itself was an experience worth getting in.

We attended “La Boheme” and it was amazing! I recommend that you buy tickets way in advance for you to have nice sitting. They charge 3 sek for the cloakroom and the bar can be quite expensive!

We watched "The Barber of Seville" and it was magnificent. However, the opera hall is old, and the seats are a bit uncomfortable. I recommend getting there with at least 15 minutes of anticipation, as it gets really crowded.

As an Opera / Ballet lover I’ve visited many Opera houses, the Royal Swedish Opera gets the highest praise from me. I signed up for English Guided Tour which was informative and enjoyable . 1.5 hours flew by in this beautiful building full of history and amazing architecture. It’s relatively small vs Covent Garden ROH but cosy, I stayed to see Sweeny Todd musical sang in English - impressive performance and advanced scenography. Well worth a visit!

Yelp
WOW! I didn't know what to expect from the Royal Swedish Opera Ballet, this dance troupe is rarely talked about compared to the Paris Opera Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, American Ballet Theater, or The Royal Ballet. But the Swedes did a phenomenal work art of Sleeping Beauty. The live orchestra, talented dancers, colorful costumes, and elaborate sets all worked together harmoniously to create a wonderful classic ballet...the Carabosse was mesmerizing and seductive! Be careful when buying tickets online for this opera house. I picked out a couple of seats for 330SEK($37) each. They looked decent on the website chart, which unfortunately is not to scale and doesn't fully project the true sharp horseshoe shape of the theater. The seats were still decent, but required turning your head sharply for 3 hours. Fortunately, the show wasn't sold out. After 15 minutes into the show, we snuck over to some better seats that were much central and provided a significantly better view. I guestimate these seats were 500-700+ SEK. Still, I would've been happy with the 330SEK seats, they would've been 50% more in America. Though I'm guessing tax revenue subsidizes the ticket costs, thanks Sweden! If you're into the Arts, go check out a concert, opera, or ballet at this classical & beautiful opera house.

Yelp
The opera house is unbelievably beautiful. I appreciated that the opera we saw was in Swedish with Swedish captions, as well, despite the fact that I did not understand a damn thing hahaha.

Yelp
It is hard to not give this venerable institution founded 1773 a top mark; it's the stage where La Nilsson, Jussi Björling, Nina Stemme, Nicolai Gedda, Jenny Lind, Christina Nilsson, Elisabeth Söderström, Anne Sofie von Otter, Sixten Ehrling, and Anneli Alhanko have performed. The Royal Opera is the Swedish National Stage for opera and ballet. I have now been here a number of times, and it is a building that is the ultimate turn of the century building that fills you with awe with an interior to match it; marble stair cases, red velvet and gold (the gilded hall is just made for drinking champagne), busts of King Gustavus III (the founder) and the singer Jenny Lind. The productions have lately started to break free of the conservative, and I am excited to see more challenging and moderna ballet productions, and a La Bohème transferred to Stockholm's Old Town. And I look forward to many new productions - just to mention one: the Ring cycle in 2017! So, why not a five-star review? To me it boils down to the service and welcoming by the people working there. Far too often the people working there come through as too snotty and a tad to self-grandizing in relation to us the visitors. Just by working at a venerable institution doesn't make you shimmer with gold, only your helpfulness and service can. Far too many visitors find the opera intimidating and that they may not be "worthy" visitors - don't add to that feeling!

Yelp
Absolutely love every performance I have seen here! I am new in town and I have gone every month to each of the shows! Beautiful building! The performers are very passionate and talented! If you are in Stockholm, check it out!! Great prices for those under 25 years old!
