The Best Restaurants In San Jose - San Jose - The Infatuation

"Don’t be fooled by the unassuming Milpitas shopping center that houses Royal Thaali. The bright and cheery vegetarian restaurant is warm, welcoming, and always bustling. People come in droves for the unlimited thali that’s overflowing with curries, dal, roti, poori, chat, and dessert. Dishes change daily and from Friday through Sunday, you can get the even larger royal thaali for $5 more. This spot is also good if you're in the mood for takeout—the menu is a few bucks cheaper and more than enough to feed your hunger, even without the refills you get when dining in." - shoshi parks

Royal Thaali really lives up to its name. The thali was a perfect mix of flavors — from the spicy curries to the sweet desserts, everything was spot on. The service was warm and welcoming, and the ambience had a lovely traditional feel. Definitely coming back!

Been here multiple times but most recently went for lunch on a Saturday and to our surprise, the wait was just 5 mins. Usually the place is packed but there was only one other party waiting other than us. The dining area is small and not the best in terms of cleanliness but they have defenitely worked on it over time. The service is great and they frequently attend to you to serve the different items on the menu for the day. The food usually tastes good but we always end up feeling full just after a few bites.

We've been to Royal Thaali countless times, and it's definitely our top pick for Indian thali. Our recent Friday visit for the Punjabi thali was absolutely amazing! Honestly, everything tasted incredible, all the sabzis and starters were just perfect. Last time, we savored a delicious mohanthaal, and this time, we got to enjoy gulab jamun, aamras, and gajar ka halwa. We really loved it all!

Google
Horrible experience. The condiments placed on the table had fungus on it. The weekend price was $25.00 which had 5-6 items. The other customers were complaining about the service and food and the waiter attitudinally said "we can't make everyone happy". The servers had attitude and the service was horrible. The food tasted horrible. Please AVOID the restaurant. Please go to other restaurants for much better quality and it will be worth the price you pay.

Google
We tried Royal thaali a few times, and the food has generally been good. The thaali comes with lot of dishes, while some are good others are just ok. The pricing is little on the expensive side. Service is good. It's a small restaurant and can feel little bit cramped.

Went in before the rush soon after they open and found a table. Ordered weekend special unlimited thaali. They started serving after 10 minutes. Rotating servers bring different items. Kachori wasn’t fried properly. Gatta sabji was more like gatta kadi. There was also a plain kadi. Jalebi was cold. All curries were mild and taste was mediocre. Daal was tasty but baati was hard inside. Overall not worth the price and not anywhere close to authentic taste.

Google
Food: The unlimited thali is both delicious and comforting, giving off a home-cooked meal vibe. I particularly enjoyed the poori and the flavorful curries. However, the paneer curry could use a better balance, as it felt like 90% gravy and only 10% paneer. Service: The service is amazing—attentive, friendly, and quick, which adds to the dining experience. Ambience: The ambience is decent, providing a simple and comfortable setting for a relaxed meal. Royal Thaali is a great choice for those craving a wholesome, homely thali, though a bit more substance in the curries would make it even better.

Google
Small Indian vegitarian restaurant in Milpitas. It only has one item and it is unlimited thali. It consist of variety of small dishes like bento box. It was interesting as this was the first time I experience it and also experience fully vegiterian Indian cuisine The food is yummy and service is good. Thexserver constantly come over to check if we need more dishes. Nice lunch with friends

Yelp
The food here was great. We went on Holi and they had a holy special thali and it was some of the most fantastic soul food. I had eaten up. Their gulab jamun and jalebi were outstanding and even the chaas and thandai was refreshing. However, when it comes to service they have a very small restaurant and they found it hard to seat a party of 11. It was a lack of space and I think general lack of staff as well. There were only two people trying to serve the whole place up and it was a little bit difficult. The ambiance is small, simple and No nonsense. Just come here in parties of one to three people and you can eat good Indian food and enjoy yourself

Yelp
We used to love Royal Thali--it was one of our favorite spots just last year. Sadly, the food quality and service have declined drastically. On multiple recent visits, **more than one person in our group got food poisoning**--not once, but twice. The oil content in the food has gone way up, to the point where it's borderline inedible. What was once flavorful and comforting now just feels heavy and careless. Because this was my mom's favorite restaurant, we decided to give it *one last shot* this weekend. We arrived at **2:50 PM**, well before their listed closing time of 3 PM, only to be met with an incredibly rude response from the host, **Sachin**. There was already a group of 14 waiting, and we were just a party of 2--but instead of trying to accommodate, he abruptly turned us away, saying the restaurant was closed and that the servers were tired because they had been working since 9 AM. That's understandable--but the attitude was completely uncalled for. Between the poor hygiene, overly greasy food, and dismissive customer service, this place has gone from a favorite to a **hard no** for us. **Never going back.

Yelp
Ambience and service is very nice. We tried Saturday Gujarati Thali. This is more like Beer , you have get used to it. Gujarati Thali is neither sweet or spicy, weird sweet , weird spicy.

Yelp
Delicious vegetarian food at Royal Thali. Just one round of food and we were full. This is in Milpitas . We were out for Sunday lunch and had about 5-10 mins wait time. Casual ambiance and great service. Will also try their Pleasanton location soon. Must try if you in the mood for veg thali.

Yelp
A thali literally means a platter, and usually has an appetizer , 2/3 mains, a lentil, and 2/3 kinds of breads. A rice and a dessert round up the experience, and unless noted otherwise Thalis are supposed to be unlimited. I grew up eating Thali at Golden star and Chetana in Mumbai, so the bar is very high. Having said that, Royal Thali does a fine job of serving freshly made tasty dishes, served with abundance. Their menu is different each day so there is no fear of being fed day old leftovers. Eveything from the vegetarian curry dishes to the breads are always small batch made so you really are eating them piping hot. We've been here twice already and both times I have found atleast 2/3 items I really liked so for the price point, it's a win-win. Veer is the main server and he and his team ensures you leave happy and well fed. So if you are in the mood for an unlimited thali any day of the week , head over, but only after you put on some comfy pants!

Yelp
Affordable, infinite amounts of food? Sign me up. Basically, they serve thaali-style meals, which basically just means a meal on a plate with a lot of different things in it. I guess it's not that different from how people refer to bento meals - except it often is a lot fancier due to the sheer diversity of food offered. And this place is no exception! You go in, get seated, and you get a preset meal of basically multiple staples (roti bread, puri bread, etc.), some appetizers, and several curries. What is unusual is that basically whenever you eat any of those and want more of anything in it, you can ask for more. So in short, it's essentially all-you-can-eat. The menu rotates through several themes, usually revolving around a regional cuisine (I think I' remember Marathi food? Punjabi food? Gujarati food?). So what's cool is you actually do get something different depending on what day you go. If you have a strong opinion on what you prefer, you can check their website to see that week's menu. Overall, I do not have a strong opinion and I've liked almost everything I've had here. And even if you don't absolutely love something, you can simply...not request refills of that specific curry. They also basically have complimentary chaas buttermilk. Personally not a fan of chaas, but it's a nice touch! Value is pretty good, especially on weekdays. Honestly one of the cheapest AYCE options I've seen in the Bay Area. Highly recommend if you want to get absolutely stuffed on a tight budget.

Yelp
Good place to go to after a 5 mile hike or on one of those hungry-like-a-whale afternoons. Weekend all-you-can-eat lunch tends to costs upwards of 30 including basic taxes and tips. Usually you only get one specific Thali on a given day it looks like. Food is not bad. On par with other "thali" places. The flavors could be a wee bit better in my opinion. We went on a weekend and ended up eating Gujarati thali. Will go again to try the Rajasthani version another day. Service was great. We were there before noon. Personally I became full right after eating a couple of roties. Place is fairly clean and cozy.

Yelp
The food was pretty good, it was traditional Indian food. The servers were also pretty nice, also the plates and utensils were high quality.

Yelp
This was my first thaali experience but I went with my two friends from India and they loved it. Come hungry and ready to eat a lot. It's unlimited and the employees will come around refilling what you liked. I thought the dishes were flavorful and delicious. Great rotis and puris too. We will be back
google avatar

Jill M.

Yelp
This was my first ever Thali experience. I have been wanting to try this place and glad we did. No fuss kindof a place and no need for a menu! They serve you a variety of dishes that you can eat with a variety of breads and rice. About $19 pp on a weekday lunch. Not bad, since technically, it's Ayce. My only Suggestion would be to maybe name the dish they are serving as they serve them (for people who arent too familiar with the cuisine). Other than that, food was great and we left very satisfied

Yelp
We revisited recently after our first visit on their opening day. Lines are painfully long especially over weekends. They obliged and put on name on the wait list over a phone call but we still had to wait 45 mins after our arrival. We did not find the dishes as good as the first day. Nothing on the thali stood out.

Yelp
Came here and was introduced with the Thaali which is a way of eating Indian food. For someone who is experiencing this for the first time, it was a sight and flavor journey. There was this big stainless plate with small cups. Basically the food served was different everyday based on region. I was also told that this was prepared during weddings or big celebrations in the family. Many food items were served and placed on the cups. Mostly vegetarian dishes of curry or masala and fried veggies. There is also rice at the end to finish it off and it's all you can eat for less than $20 during weekdays. Try the food and the full experience.

Yelp
Had a lunch here and it was very much an experience! I'd never been to a restaurant like this before, and I'd definitely go again. My party of 2 came in on a Friday lunch. Each table had platters all ready set, and as soon as you're seated the waitstaff start filling yours. There was definitely a bit of language barrier. There was a saag paneer, dal, a sort of tikka masala, a stir fried potato and veggie dish, and for starches there was a chapati, papadam, rice, along with others. I really like I wish I could identify all the items and I'm learning as I go! Would definitely be back now that I'm more familiar with how things work!

Yelp
Home style unlimited thali.. Felt like home! They have different thalis each day, do checkout menu before going.. Rotis and puris are good and freshly made.. We tried Maharastrian thali.. Service is good

Yelp
This place specializes in thali but the unique thing is their specialty changes based on the day! They have Punjabi thaali, Gujarati Thaali, and Rajasthani Thaali on different weekend days. We went on Punjabi Thaali day where they had the following to eat to our heart's content: Galauti Kabab, Mix Veg Pakora, Tomato Soup, Methi Paneer, Soya Chaap, Aaloo Gobhi Adrakhi, Dal Makhani, Kadhi Pakora, Mattar Pulav, Kheer, Gajar Halva, Roti, Poori, Jeera Rice, Salad, Papad, Masala Chaas Some dishes were new to me which was fun to try. Things were a bit spicy but I was good with the chaas and roti/puri. The kids thought it was a bit spicy but downed a number of rotis with their favorite paneer curry. They were kind and kept checking in to make sure we were refilled. Good amount of seating as well as parking - go check it out! Can't wait to go back and try the other days!
google avatar

Amit T.

Yelp
Eaten here before. It was great. This time around the flavors were significantly lacking. One out of 10 things on the thali was nice. Don't think we will come back.

Yelp
Been there a couple of times now with a group of friends and absolutely love their hospitality, yummylicious finger licking good food and just an amazing vibe overall when you get in there. Parking can be a bit of a challenge depending on what part of the day/evening you get to be there though a bit of wait or going around the parking area can get you a spot. Once you are in, you would be escorted to a table by such amazing hosts and they definitely make you feel at home. The food, is absolutely authentic Indian food and the cuisine changes from Gujarati to Punjabi to Rajasthani etc depending on the day of the week. Lots of options when it comes to the snacks , food, bread and as well deserts. Absolutely recommend the spot and if you are in to enjoy some unlimited authentic Indian thali experience, this should be top on your list without an iota of a doubt.

Yelp
Great food, experience, and team! Get there early to avoid lines. Shout out to Vicky-made it all even better.

Yelp
As might be already known , this place serves an unlimited platter or buffet of sorts , which is purely vegetarian and everything is served to the customer at the table. The menu changes daily with a mix of north Indian (Punjabi) dishes with some regional dishes with Saturday being a predominantly Gujarati cuisine (from the state of Gujarat ) and Sunday being a Rajasthani ( from the state of Rajasthan) cuisine day. Tried it for dinner on a Sunday and hence as mentioned dishes were mainly Rajasthani . The menu that day was Methi Pakora ( Fenugreek fritters ) Khasta Kachori ( A fried wheat dumpling filled with lentils ) Daal Baati Churma ( Lentil soup with wheat balls with sweet ground wheat ) Gatte Ki Sabzi ( Chickpea flour balls in a yogurt and tomato based gravy ) Haldi Paneer ( Cheese in turmeric based gravy ) Ker Sangri ( A dry stir fry dish of a herb grown in Rajasthan ) Cauliflower and potato vegetable dish Kaju Corn Makhana ( Lotus seeds and corn in a creamy cashew based gravy ) Navratna Kadhi ( Savory yogurt based soup ) Roti ( Whole wheat bread ) Puri ( Fried bread made of all purpose flour ) Jeera rice ( Rice with a hint of cumin seeds ) Pulao ( Spiced rice with some veggies and chick pea flour balls ) Halwa ( A sweet wheat flour pudding kind of dessert ) While the variety was pretty good and at least the breads and appetizers seemed freshly prepared, I felt none of the dishes individually tasted very good. They were mostly one-dimensional in flavor where I could only taste 1 spice and lacked proper seasoning . The service overall was good and I rarely had to flag down the staff to ask for anything . However was there before 7 pm which is a little early for most Indians and hence the place was not super busy. It is a small space and hence seating can get uncomfortable as the tables are very close to each other. Do plan to give it another try on a different day.

Yelp
Unlimited vegetarian thali delight. One of the few places in the Bay Area that provides unlimited thali. The food was really delicious, they started off with appetizers, followed by chappati and main course. They served rice later. The only suggestion would be to add a sabzi (dry vegetable) alongside the main course. The server was very sweet and served us with a bright smile making us come back. The cutlery is similar to what one gets in an Indian household so it took me back to my childhood days. We will be back for the Punjabi and rajasthani thali :)
google avatar

Yelp
I read about this restaurant as one of the best new restaurants from SF Chronicle and immediately bookmarked it! We had tried a Thali meal in England and were blown away, so when I saw there was a Thali restaurant in the area, I knew it was a must-visit. A thali meal consists of a variety of dishes served on a single platter. It's a great way to try a mix of different dishes that are well-balanced together for a meal. Royal Thaali is really unique in that they serve a set thali meal each day, and each day they serve different dishes. When you sit down, everyone is getting the exact same thing -- the thali meal for the day! Plus, they will circle around and top you up with any dishes you'd like more of. It's all-you-can-eat. Want to go to town on lots of roti? No problem! Fancy more dessert? No problem! Children 4 and under eat free too, so our son was free. He enjoyed the breads best, but he loves bread. He tried a bit of some of the other dishes too, but it was really helpful that he was free since he didn't have much. My husband and I really loved the Saturday Thali meal, but would love to return to try another day's set Thali meal. We actually stopped here on our way to camping at Pinnacles National Park for New Year's and we wanted to go again on our way home, but they are closed on Mondays. We arrived right at 11 am when they opened for lunch, and most of the tables were full. Not all of the dishes were ready right away; a few came out later into the meal, but that's okay. As first-timers though, we weren't sure what to expect or what we would receive. Like, we didn't get any roti until about 10 minutes into our meal. It's all good, but now we know, it's on the way. :) It's most likely because we sat down right as they opened, so I don't think everything was 100% ready yet. The staff don't all speak much English, but that's okay. They were all very friendly and helpful and got us a high chair for our son right away when we entered. I believe this is a women-owned restaurant and I believe it was the chef that came out and greeted us at our table at one point through the meal, which was really nice. She was very sweet. On Saturday, December 30, 2023 we had: Saturday Thaali - $22.99 Khaman Dhokla, Sabudana Vada, Dal Dhokli, Aaloo Gobhi Rassa, Undhiyu, Palak Paneer, Gujarati Dal, Kadhi, Shrikhand, Gulab Jamun, Khichadi, Roti, Poori, Jeera Rice, Salad, Papad, Masala Chaas Weekend Thalis are $22.99, and weekdays (Tues - Thu) are $17.99 which have fewer dishes. We loved our meal, and would 100% come back. Now we need an excuse to make our way to Milpitas! I mean, I think this restaurant alone is worth the drive. Great concept, great food and lovely staff!

Vidya R.

Yelp
I have had the Rajasthani and Gujarati Thalis previously and they were great . The servers keep serving warm food though sometimes need to call them out . I loved the sabudaana wada , ondhyo , daal baati and generally the food overall . Today I ordered the Sindhi thali to go and loved it . Everything was really nice . The ambiance is also good .
google avatar

Samay S.

Yelp
They have good variety and most of the options taste good. Some times the food is a bit oily. The wait is pretty long most times but once you're seated the service is pretty fast. Strongly recommend if you're in the mood for thali.
google avatar

Swetha K.

Yelp
I recommend this place for their Gujrati Thali on Saturdays. We were here for the first time in July '23. It was Punjabi Thali that day which was so spicy for us! My family eats spicy food, but our entire party of 12 people could barely eat any of the sabjis. We survived on the Chaas lol! We thought we'll never be coming back, but our friend said Gujrati meal is great, so we tried again in Dec'23. It was really great and I'd recommend it . We had the following on the Thaali: Appetizers: Dhokla, Mini Samosas, Tikki Ragada Mains: Aloo Bhindi, Dal, Kadhi, Palak Paneer, Sev Bhaji (This was the only super spicy dish), Roti and Beetroot Puri Rice : Jeera Rice, Khichdi Dessert : Shrikhand Drink : Chaas /Buttermilk Service was quick and they checked in multiple times to make sure we were eating well. I recommend the Gujrati Thaali here (which I believe is on Saturdays only).

Yelp
This was defintely an EXPERIENCE.You walk in and sit down at a table with empty plates and cups. Everyday there's only ONE option on the menu FYI. Also, there is a language barrier. 1. Once seated the server begins to fill your plates with an assortment of sauces 2. They make rounds to refill your plate with naan, rice and so on Anyways, I defintely recommend y'all stop by and try them out when you're in the area
google avatar

Mitali N.

Yelp
Great spread of extremely flavorful food on the weekend. Tried the Rajasthani thali and everything offered in the thali was delish. Checkout the weekly menu on their website before visiting as the menu changes per week. Be prepared to wait it out long if you don't reach early (around 11:45am) for lunch on weekend as seating space is limited. Service is quick once you are seated and the

Yelp
We tried the Gujarati Thali on a Sunday during Mango festival! The food is overrated, nothing worth remembering or worth having on repeat. Aamras was super artificial, over sweet. The service was super quick. The staff had eyes on the plate to replace quickly. The seating is really cramped and ambience is average.
google avatar

Malathy A.

Yelp
At first when I got here, it was very crowded and couldn't even make it through the door to put my name down, I landed up going to another restaurant. The second time, I decided to get there super early. There was no line at the door, but three other parties showed up right before they opened. So I'm guessing that's the best thing to do to avoid all the rush. I did call in advance to get a table, but they said I could walk in when I told them what time I was coming. They open at 6 PM for dinner. Once in, service is great! They immediately started serving. The staff is very friendly and come by to serve different dishes very often, which makes it a very welcoming experience. You can also let them know if you're looking for anything in particular and they'll bring it out soon, so overall service is pretty fast. Food is delicious and very homely. Not too spicy but good amount of flavors and very healthy options. They have a different menu every single day that I really hope I get to try, I would still suggest the special thali as they have more curry options. The place itself is pretty small, but has good enough seating. It gets extremely busy during the weekends, and since it's all you can eat, the wait time can be quite long.

Yelp
"Thali is a round platter used to serve food in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Thali is also used to refer to an Indian-style meal made up of a selection of various dishes that are served on a platter. Thali is also used in South Asia for ceremonial purposes." It did feel like being at an event when you walk in here and see the gleaming plates and containers on the plate. Service was excellent, very prompt and courteous. The food was excellent, fresh and straight from the stove to the plate. I am a fan. The day we were there, it was a Punjabi thali.
google avatar

Sharan N.

Yelp
Dirty, poorly maintained restaurant with minimal spacing between tables. There was food lying on the floor below the table offered to us. The seats were wet. Our request for a different table was denied by the host. We were two of us and the only table vacant had 4 seats. This implied the owners couldn't care less about offering a good service. Do not recommend such negative experience to anyone. This was the worst Indian restaurant experience in Bay Area.

Yelp
Ambiance- Normal Its a small space with hardly any space to walk Service - Very good Servers had a smiley welcoming face. They kept on offering us with various dishes on timely basis. Food- Very good If you want to have home like unlimited food this is the place. Everything from starters, main course, dessert was perfectly made. Not too spicy. -Points 1. few curry were super oily 2. Congested area +Point 1. Home like food 2. Great service 3. Hot rotli with ghee

Yelp
Royal Thaali does a wonderful unlimited thali. They alternate between days of just Rajasthani style thali or Gujarat style thali on different days. Royal Thaali is fully vegetarian meaning lacto vegetarian and no eggs yet when me and my beloved dined here recently we were both able to customize our thali to get it vegan. The servers here were very accommodating of what we both could get vegan and plenty of options for us. The cuisine was quite alright. The service was great. I spent over three years in India over nine trips and eight Winters. This is a very authentic thali experience. Recommended!

Yelp
We celebrated my mom's Silver Jubilee here. The owners Dolly and Abijhit were accommodating and really worked with me to curate a memorable experience. For example due to the time limit at the indoor tables, they came up with the idea to set up a separate cake table outside- with decorative tablecloth to boot! Although we went over the 90 minute table limit, they respected our celebration and didn't rush us out. I did get charged a time overage fee on the tables and extra for the chai which was served with the cake, which was fine, but I think it's good practice to give customers a heads up about any charges that might appear on the bill ahead of time. Rather than informing at the time of settling up which happened in my case. For example I thought chai was complimentary. The ambiance inside is cozy, intimate with festive and classy decor. I was worried since I had never been that it might be too casual for such an occasion but it was just right! Also Dolly was super accommodating about dietary restrictions. I was worried the Gujarati menu would be too sweet but the food turned out absolutely mouth watering and perfectly balanced. Like every.single. Item we had. All guests complimented the cuisine and said they will go back to try other menu items. Really love and respect the owners' mission of bringing awareness of and sharing different regional cuisines of India.

Yelp
We came today (Wednesday) for dinner, family of 4 ( incl 2 small kids). There was no rush, we easily got table as soon as we entered. Weekends are really busy and wait time is easily 1hr wait to get a table. Service is really quick and great. Our server was really friendly especially to my 1 yr old. He was prompt and served did immediately which was great. Food was really good, everything tasted great, we didn't dislike any items. Weekday thali for dinner included chaas, 2 types of sweet, 4 curries, roti, puri, papd, rice, salad and appetizer.. it was very filling and value for the price since you are share with kids.. We did takeout as well, and there is no compromise on the taste. Quality and quantity of food is worth the price and time

Yelp
Probably one of the best Thali places in bay area. It's simple, with varieties, unlimited decent service. The place is small so it tends to get crowded pretty fast. Their chaas is to die. Be prepared to wait longer during weekends and be prepared for relatively slower service during weekdays

Yelp
The place is too popular. There is no reservation system and someone takes the order. You have to walk all the way in to find the person who takes order and you have to be with the person as soon as someone leaves to get a table. There is no order to the whole thing. Having said that, the service is great. You are served in these beautiful big thaalis and variety of ingredients. All the waiters are nice and courteous inspite of the place being so busy. The day we went, it was gujarati thali and each and every item was good. We got paneer, dal, kadi, chaat, pakoda, roti, Poori, shrikhand(best I have had), livla vadi sabji, gulab jamun, khichadi, chawal and papads. Only suggestion to them is to get a subscription to reservation system and if possible rent the place next door

Yelp
Even though the food is marketed all you can eat, The servers make sure that the unlimited thaali is actually a limited thali at a high price. We went when gujrathi thali was the menu of the day at Pleasanton location Food was ok , but second servings were hardly honored. Servers conveniently forget The food was also not served in correct order . Food that is accompaniment for main course( eg shrikand for puri) is served as desert (Kadhi that should be served with khichdi is served out of order first) Khichdi reeked of raw turmeric powder indicating not enough time to cook Overall the serving staff need to be trained to more attentive and care needs to be taken to provide the patrons with a more fulfilling experience especially in a restaurant of this model charging a premium

Yelp
Make sure to go HUNGRY! This place is excellent value for money, serves affordable unlimited hot meals that are delicious and true to authentic Indian flavors. It is a vegetarian's paradise because each Thali consists of at least 5 different curries, a couple of desserts, 2 types of rice 2-3 appetizers and 2-3 breads - all vegetarian! Each thali is also served with a sumptuous glass of chaas (spiced buttermilk). I love the fact that they rotate their menu and serve a different type of thali every day of the week, representing the cuisines of different regions of India. I have tried their Maharashtrian Thali and I enjoyed it a lot. The restaurant is basic, but clean and the service is extremely quick. The servers are polite and ensure that you get as many refills of any dish you like in the thali. Its a long drive from San Francisco, but worth it as long as you are super hungry by the time you get there and can truly enjoy all dishes in the meal!

Yelp
Omg what is this place! I just sat down and there is an endless rotation of bread/rice (loved the puri - nicely fried but not tooooo greasy) and a delicious assortment of curries. Loved the aloo and paneer. Comes with the buttermilk drink and salad, sweet. Was quite crowded on a weekday evening. 5% off if you finish all your food!!

Yelp
Royal Thaali is a sparkly NEW venue to the Thaali scene. I believe they opened their doors last month (July 2023) Shiny, sparkling, cozy, clean and inviting venue, brightly lit with a decent amount of seating. The staff is friendly as well. They seem very easy going and helpful. The food was excellent! Everything tasted like a home cooked meal...grandma in the back whipping up some delish meals?? #delishThaali: ~ Thaali - 4.5/5 Everything was very tasty. Although I'm not sure what everything was. I do wish there was some sort of guide or chart that specifically labeled every dish. I did recognize some of the dishes. My favorite was the Paneer followed by the Eggplant. No meat here for those that are wondering... Fairly simple formula: one price for the the Thaali and you can purchase drinks. Watch out for the service charge and tip accordingly...

Yelp
Amazing all you can eat Thali plate service with plenty of vegetarian choices and buttermilk for dinner. The place is popular and busy but has a clean and aesthetic ambiance.

Yelp
We visited Royal Thali a few weeks ago for dinner on a Sunday. We were fairly quickly seated. We chose a thali and food was served in no time. The staff was friendly and welcoming. There was a Rajasthani thali on that day. I have to confess - we grew up in India and spent another 10 years in the Bay Area. But, we haven't had half the dishes on our thali. I was so glad that we could get a taste of a lot of different dishes there. It's a great opportunity to try out cuisines that you don't usually do. There were a lot of yummy dishes but the beetroot puri, dal bhati and gatte ki sabzi were my favorites. I love that it's an unlimited thali - that way, I could get more of what I liked on the plate. I'd definitely go back here and perhaps try out the other Thalis they offer too!

Yelp
Oh so many expectations when I got here, but truth be told, the other place fell short on many of them. Let's start with Service: We got here at 11:20 am for an early lunch (restaurant opens at 11:00) and were the first ones to arrive. The staff welcomed us very warmly and seated us. However I do think they were caught off guard to see customers arrive so early for lunch. There were a quite a few fumbles - they forgot to fill chaas for my kid when I was the only one not requesting for it. Then they inexplicably forgot to serve my wife with any veggies or curries so she had to wait till I reminded the servers to serve my wife as well. However the power of serving with a smile and politeness cannot be underestimated and the staff came through on these, making the aforementioned service shortfalls something I could overlook Ambiance - was nice and certainly a step up from what I'd expect from similar restaurants. The decor was nice but the real upgrade was the steel Thali and crockery. Food: and this is where my expectations fell short. For those in the know, the owner Dolly Khatri has quite a name in the Bay Area Indian Food scene. As such my expectations were sky high. The weekend menu seemed extensive and we were eager to devour the food, having skipped breakfast to ensure we had plenty of appetite to chow down every last morsel. When the food started arriving one thing my family (and the table next to ours as well) noticed was there wasn't enough salt in many of the curries as well as the laapsi. The food was also a tad bit spicy for me and it resulted in me not being able to really savor the flavors of the curries. Be it the daal, the navaratn korma or the gatte ki subzi a little more salt and a little less chili would have helped enhance the flavors. When the daal baati did eventually arrive, the baati was sufficiently crisp and was the one redeeming items on the menu. And finally on the dessert - the Ras malaai was also disappointing on many fronts - the milk hadn't thickened enough, the paneer hadn't marinated enough and the dish itself needed more sugar. I am sincerely sincerely hoping this was just an off day and that my next visit will be very different (and better experience) on the food front.

Yelp
Been here multiple times and tried different thaalis and each of them have been great! Very home style, delicious food. The service has always been top notch even though they're busy. Tip: Get there early or it gets busy and you'll have to wait for a table

Yelp
I have been to this place couple of time and so far I dont have anything unpleasant to write :) Food served is hot and delicious. Love how they keep getting hot rotis and puris. Will definitely come back here for good food. Note: since they bring fresh rotis/puris/pakoda service might get slow if place is packed.

Yelp
Ambiance and feel Clean, small place but arrangement was ok, not cramped. Initial impression was cafeteria-like where you order from the counter, turns out it was a sit-down all-you-can-eat restaurant where they bring their daily selection of Thaali set. Check their website for the menu. Food Everything we had was quite good. The set came with chappati, roti, and poori breads, plus rice if you want to. Good selection of items for the day that we went. They have only one pre-set meal selection each day so if you have specific preference, you can probably ask before the server place the food on the plate. Service Server was attentive, courteous. Kept our water cups filled quite often and kept checking on whether we want more food. Granted at that time they were not busy with only 4 tables of two tops. Cost With 15% tips, ended up paying $43 for 2. They started with a higher price, then gave discount for no-leftover on the plate since it is a buffet type place. Tipping Usual PoS tablet that they flipped over for you to select. I don't mind 15% tips given the service but somewhat uncomfortable part as the server was also there looking at us. Summary OK place if you want a decent Indian Thaali style food and I may return once in a while because of the food quality, but definitely not going to be a regular due to price and uncomfortable tipping request practice.

Yelp
I was really excited to go here because the only other thali concept in US is Rajdhani, Artesia ( recommend). We called ahead to reserve but unfortunately ran late so slipped our seating window, which is fair. But overall the place feels low on staff, seating space, and organization. We walked in to see a bunch of agitated groups who were clearly appalled by the state of the organization. The staff had to seat some of them first and some even got into a word battle with each other. After about 45 mins of waiting, we got a table. I want to say there's space for 10-12 parties of 2-4 inside and it feels really cramped. Like you're basically all one giant group and thali restaurants need constant movement for service so I feel that's a huge constraint here. There's a set menu, so on a sunday, we got their weekend special which is a couple of bucks more than their weekday menu and supposed to have two desserts. Ours was gulab jamun and churma (not a traditional dessert! So we were bummed). Also we got some chutneys and sabjis served immediately (which they don't really inform about, just start serving without checking allergies or preferences), but the rotis took 20-30 mins to come. We saw the lady come out with roti and kept serving tables that had been served while our sabjis and plates got cold. The food was decent, wouldn't say it had the homemade touch like thali restaurants do nor did it feel fresh or restaurant like. It was just alright, which made the wait and effort seem even worse. Overall, wouldn't recommend going in unless you're going on a weekday before or around opening time or they add more seating and change organization.
