Nestled in the city, this vibrant bar mixes classic burgers with a fantastic drink selection, all enjoyed on a year-round patio perfect for socializing.
"Royale is a perfect bar for watching a game with a beer and burger. Add in a spacious, plant-lined backyard—a top sunny day hang in the East Village since 2006—and it’s a great local watering hole as well. Both calm enough to catch up with friends during the week, and loud enough to feel like you’re actually going out on the weekend, Royale also keeps everyone fed with some excellent bar food, like buffalo wings and onion rings. Our only complaint? They’re not allowed to play TV volume outside, so if you want to watch a game and enjoy a warm breeze at the same time, you’re better off at The Grafton. Food Rundown photo credit: Will Hartman Royale With Cheese Yeah, yeah, Pulp Fiction, we know. This quintessential bar burger bursts with beefy flavor, and it’s served on a buttery brioche bun. It’s always cooked well, with just enough of a crust from the broiler." - Will Hartman
"There are two things separating Royale from its other “chill” sports bar peers: the burger and the patio. And yes, if it’s cold outside, the former is still 100% enough of a reason for you to steer your group here. Royale is never too crowded, the burger is consistently great, and this continues to be one of our places for a not-overly-rowdy hangout." - bryan kim, katherine lewin, neha talreja, kenny yang
"You could always go to Royale to watch the game - it’s one of our favorite sports watching spots in the East Village. But that would require some effort. Instead, order that excellent Royale Burger straight to your living room and take a moment to appreciate that you didn’t have to put on real pants to eat it. "Burgers, onion rings, and sports. That’s what this place is about, and if you like two out of the three, you’ll be into Royale. Even if you only like one, actually. And if you don’t like any of those things, just sit at the bar, drink a beer, and stare at the wall. There are worse things to do with your time. Overall, this is a pretty ideal place in the East Village to eat ground beef and watch athletes do some things you assume you could do but, in reality, cannot. Also they have a backyard." - bryan kim
"Royale is still one of the best patios and best burgers in the East Village. Along with their backyard, they now have seating out front as well. Reservations are encouraged, and you can make one by calling (212) 254-6600." - hannah albertine, matt tervooren
