"Royale’s backyard is one of the most pleasant places to hang out in the East Village on a hot summer day. But the dive (which serves an abnormally good burger) is more than just a place where you can drink beer outside. The inside is functionally the neighborhood’s living room—a non-corny Cheers-esque spot where the bartenders know everything about their regulars' lives. "Royale is a perfect bar for watching a game with a beer and burger. Add in a spacious, plant-lined backyard—a top sunny day hang in the East Village since 2006—and it’s a great local watering hole as well. Both calm enough to catch up with friends during the week, and loud enough to feel like you’re actually going out on the weekend, Royale also keeps everyone fed with some excellent bar food, like buffalo wings and onion rings. Our only complaint? They’re not allowed to play TV volume outside, so if you want to watch a game and enjoy a warm breeze at the same time, you’re better off at The Grafton.
