For chocolate lovers, this is the place to treat yourself and buy gifts for others with a refined sweet tooth. Tastes the best (priced accordingly). Note that it's a couple escalator flights up inside The Shops at North Bridge. I stopped by during a stroll of the Magnificent Mile and nearby parks and I got an Almond Bitter Chocolate bar (which lasted all of ten minutes lol). You can still shop online, but I was happy to find out they have in-store exclusives at their locations (and some prices are better).

Google
Small store that stocks with many different flavors of refrigerated, room temperature, or gift sets of Royce chocolates. Personally, I think it's hard to beat the Nama Chocolate Au Lait. Best chocolate I have tasted.

Kaitlin Backes

Google
Simply amazing!!! Such unique chocolates and very high quality. The employee was helpful with our questions and the chocolates were our favorite we found in the magnificent mile strip

OMG!!!! These ROYCE Nama chocolates melt in your mouth! Imported from the chocolate factory located in Futomi, Tobetsu-cho, Hokkaido. Located in the Nordstrom shopping mall downtown on Michigan Avenue. These are a must try! You can get with liquor or liquor free. Check them out on social media @Roycechocolate What a treat! Mompreneur Gwendolyn B. here with another real honest review. Don't forget to press that thumbs up button to like and then be sure to follow me for more honest reviews.

Google
Highly recommend trying the nama chocolates if you're at all a fan of chocolate. It's quite different and delicious. The texture is almost like that of ice cream or butter, and the flavorings synergize very well. The chocolates also taste very 'smooth', and don't have the acidic or harsh back-of-throat flavour that most chocolates bought in the US seem to have.

Google
I stop here religiously every time I come to Chicago. The staff members are not consistently knowledgeable but they are always super friendly. The space is quiet and small. I wish it was a little more alive with how great/hip all their products are. 2/3 times we were offered samples. All of their products are delicious and fare well as gifts. I have never had anyone disappointed with a gift from here. A little overpriced on the holiday items but everything else is priced well for the quality of chocolate. The refrigerated chocolates melt in your mouth but for obvious reasons aren't great for traveling.

Google
I was excited when I saw they had a store here in the US! If you have not tried these chocolate, you must run now and get some!

Yelp
5 star Because of the man at the desk. He gave us the time we needed and more. Let us try a few things. Explained the Japanese way of chocolate making and quality. I was looking for chocolate raspberry. They were out then tried the matcha. Love the taste of matcha but it is not as much as I would have preferred. I like matcha intensely. This was minimal matcha and creamy. We still bought a box of the matcha soft squares in the cooler. They pack that with a frozen pack in a little cold pack to stay fresh. I put mine in our freezer: they would prob say no to that but every once in awhile I pop one in my mouth. It's not frozen hard. It's almost better that way. I also grabbed a box of the orange chocolates that was so good. Small wafers and very thin. They are dark chocolate and rich so you don't need allot. Product is not inexpensive but we have purchased much more $$$$ chocolate before. This location is inside a mall of Michigan avenue, you take the escalators up to third floor.

Yelp
Love the shop; it's on the third floor of the North Bridge building (not counting the basement in the third floor calculation). The service was really good, but you had to ask for it. The cashier and service person helped me pick between different chocolates and gave me samples. :)

Yelp
The best chocolate and it's from Hokkaido Japan! I am so happy they have a store right downtown. It saves me a trip of flying over to Sapporo just go get their chocolates. I love the nama especially the champagne one. The baton cookies are delicious and so are the potato chips. You can't go wrong here. I need to try the chocolate covered marshmallows next time. Great customer service.

Yelp
Royce' is one of our family's favorite and there are several items that we particularly enjoy: matcha chocolate, pure chocolate, baton cookies, and wafers. This is also our usual go-to gift for family, friends, and coworkers because in addition to quality ingredients, they also have very presentable packaging.

Yelp
This was not a restaurant. Instead it was a store with fancy chocolate you could not sample or sit down to eat. Fine if you want to buy a present quickly. Not great if you want to actually savor.
google avatar

Rick P.

Yelp
Wow, this some amazing chocolate. I stopped in on a chance earlier this week and was hooked after one sample! I used to work in Japan and considered myself well versed on the wonders of their cuisine, but somehow I missed this phenomenon. I understand it is made with some incredible milk from magical cows on the island of Hokkaido (sp?). This is so creamy smooth, it's in a class of its own I bought a box as a hostess gift for an event last night and there was not a piece left. Check it out and PS, it's not crazy expensive either.

Yelp
I absolutely love Royce'! It is an experience all in itself. When I walked in the chocolate boutique I was greeted by the most pleasant individual- Corey. He took me around and educated me on Royce' and explained various products. The vibe was professional and personalized. I was offered a sample of their shortbread cookie YUM! I was looking for something to gift to an organization and this is the place. They have variety packages, SCORE! Their chocolate just melts in your mouth and the shortbread cookie was delicious. I will definitely be ordering in the future for myself and others. These are great if you want to pamper yourself, add a personal touch in a gift, give an impressive gift to a company, or just because. I enjoyed my experience there.

Yelp
Located on the third level, this spacious Michigan Avenue store has walls of chocolate made in exotic Japan. With unique flavors, there are chocolate dipped potato chips, coins of chocolate, and matcha flavors. The chocolates have liquor and non liquor options. Don't forget to look in the refrigerator area for tasty treats.
google avatar

Yelp
I bought a bar selection, the 12 piece "nut" bars, original chocolate potato chips, and a black bar. Some were for others, but everything i tried was delicious. And yet... I went while walking through the shops. The first time they were closed with a sign on the door saying back in about an hour, so I went to a few other shops and then returned. There was a young woman at the counter who said nothing whatsoever to me and I was the only customer. I chose my items and took them to checkout. She said maybe 3 words as she rang my purchases. And then "tipflation"- as I used the credit card, the machine asked me to tip. Being asked to tip for counter service is already annoying. Being asked to top for bad counter service is more annoying. A few reviews mentioned good service. They must have been there on a different day- a very different day.

Yelp
Really nice Japanese chocolates. It's the best in the neighborhood. Less sugar more cocoa. It is consistent internationally. Very nice service and atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
Royce is located on the 2nd floor of Northbridge (easily accessible by going up the escalator from Michigan Avenue's side). The store is bright and minimalistic. I was impressed that they had a variety of chocolates just like the stores in Japan. The staff was very welcoming and offered a few samples to taste before making a selection on what to buy. At no point did I feel pressured to buy anything and so I felt very relaxed entering the store. Highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
I couldn't pass up an opportunity to sample chocolates in downtown Chicago. This chocolate boutique is located on the 3rd floor inside of the Shops at North Bridge, and it is also their flagship store. They have another location in Arlington Heights inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable, provided me with a little bit of history behind Royce. It's a Japanese company, and I appreciate the sample she gave me. It was based on me saying how I like dark chocolate. It was a piece of their matcha chocolate that requires refrigeration. It was creamy, smooth, not too sweet and not bitter at all. It was perfection in a bite, and if I didn't have somewhere else to be afterwards, I'd totally get me a box. They do offer to pack it with an ice pack, but I don't like being on a schedule. I ended up getting a box of dark chocolate covered potato chips after being really curious of how the combination would be. I figured you can't go wrong with anything chocolate covered. It is honestly so good, they chip is coated in chocolate, and you still get the crunch from the potato chip. They remind me of a healthier version of Lay's wavy potato chips but dunked in dark chocolate. I can totally see myself coming back here often and getting gifts for family and friends. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for high quality chocolates and sweets. You'll have to come see for yourself!

Yelp
A bougie but absolutely delicious chocolate shop nestled in Mitsuwa Marketplace. Here you'll find a small box of chocolate goes for $18! But it is divine. I got the champagne Nama chocolate, which comes with 20 blocks of eating chocolate along with a little skewer for eating them. They're like little truffles, coated with cocoa powder, with a soft, velvety inside. The service is impeccable. The chocolate is packed into an insulated bag with a portable ice pack to keep it cool--these people are serious about their chocolate! Will I be coming back? Probably not soon, because I am not a millionaire. But an incredible product, nonetheless!

Yelp
Nice staff, clean store. Store felt slightly empty to me as there was not a very large selection available for purchase.

Yelp
Royce's chocolate is a decadent semi-luxury chocolate and a deliciously smooth silky one at that. I was first introduced to this chocolate a few years ago and have had the pleasure of trying a variety of flavours. While the price here is 2-3x what you might pay overseas, it makes for a delightful treat. Arguably, the most popular flavor is the Au Lait which is both unbelievably creamy and silky smooth. A solid go-to choice for yourself or a loved one! If you're looking to try something a little more daring then perhaps something like the The Port Charlotte? This edition is a dense, rich combination of intense cacao, heady smoke savory malt notes. Regardless, these chocolates are worth giving a try!
google avatar

Karma M.

Yelp
Delectable chocolate treats. Small squares packing a unique punch of mouth watering, flavorful, goodness AKA chocolate. It's different so that's cool. A fun gift as they gift wrap it in a cute sack, or just eat the $hit out of it yourself! Kinda expensive but good choc for the price. I got money! You don't. Go buy a bag of miniature Hershey's bums. Also, my credit score is in the 800s and PERFECT! So I can charge all the chocolate I want. I'm the man

Yelp
Staff was helpful and chocolate is amazing! This is a must stop when in downtown Chicago.

Yelp
This review kind of Rolls off my tongue. I wonder why. Maybe it's because it's for Royce. Extremely fancy chocolate shop inside the Towering five or six story North Bridge Mall in downtown Chicago. Don't look for parking around here because it's not going to be easy unless you park illegally and run up inside. Good luck with that. That's what I did. Very expensive and tasty but I actually prefer a cheaper Swiss chocolate to some of the stuff in here. Nevertheless if you were a chocoholic then this is a good stop for you while you're inside this very fancy mall and if you have a lot of money which you probably do if you shop here then this is probably going to work out perfectly for you.

Yelp
*LOCATED INSIDE NORDSTORM ON 3RD FLOOR** I came here on Friday night with 8 minutes to spare before the entire mall closed. I never ran up the elevators faster in my life! On a regular day, they will always have sample, but since it was closer to closing, the lady was hesitant to hand them out. However, I did get to try the banana chocolate nama and it was yummy! Tips/observations: -the Nama series should be stored in around 50 degrees F. They do provide a cooler and ice pack! -grocery bag cost 7 cents but the gift bag is for free! This is crazy but who knew sales tax in Chicago is 10.5%?! Regardless, Royce is delicious. The locations in the USA are limited (CA, New York, New Jersey, Illinois) so grab some if you come by!
google avatar

Yelp
amazing! loved the kama soft chocolates, had with a light green fruit tea for a delightful moment!

Yelp
We wanted to stop into this place after seeing it was pretty close to where we're staying in Chicago! I have seen these chocolates on social media and we can say that they definitely live up to the hype. The employee at this location was so helpful and really made the experience fun and enjoyable. We got the strawberry chocolate (refrigerated) and it was truly the best chocolate I've ever had. Super soft and creamy - it almost tastes like the inside a truffle and dusted in cocoa powder. I wish I could have these all the time!
google avatar

Ruthie W.

Yelp
I first found Royce Chocolate years ago possibly during my stopover in Japan and at that time, they only had the decadent chocolates that had chilled packaging to keep the chocolate from melting. It was great to discover that Royce had a store in Chicago and was within walking distance from my hotel. Another great discovery is that they had expanded their lines of chocolates. It was challenging to choose from a wide selection. I did decide to buy the big bars of chocolates that had almonds. Highly recommend and wish they had a store in my city!

Yelp
Best chocolate I've ever had? Well, you only get to say that once in your life ... so, it better be some pretty freaking awesome chocolate. Well, I'm calling my one-time for this premium Hokkaido-made chocolate now available in Chicago. Time to rejoice cause Royce is my choice. The process perfected in Sapporo for Nama chocolate creates a velvety smooth chocolate that melts in your mouth ... as quickly as it melts your heart. Nama has several meanings in Japanese, the most common is draft (as in beer), but it also can be translated as raw or unprocessed. At Royce' Chocolate, nama means fresh and without preservatives. The fresh Nama chocolate from Royce' means you need to eat it as soon as physically possible (lucky you) and keep the chocogold at cold temps (3 days - 1 month). Of course, the Rolls Royce (haha) of luxury chocolate is going to come at premium prices. This is not your mom's chocolate ... cause she can't afford it. Still not convinced Royce' is really worth more than cocaine? Well, the only thing you probably love more than chocolate is liquor, right? And, half of the Nama Chocolate varieties from Royce' contain liquor. Oh, yes, these chocolates are worth every yen, dollar, or kilo you can unearth. *** There are 5 flavors of Royce' Nama Chocolate with whispers of alcohol: * Matcha Nama Chocolate White Chocolate married with Green Tea then sprinkled with Green Tea-flavored Chocolate Powder * Champagne Pierre Mignon Nama Chocolate Celebrate with a hint of Champagne Pierre Mignon. * Bitter Nama Chocolate Hennessy V.S.O.P plus natural semi-sweet Cacao * White Nama Chocolate Creamiest and smoothest thanks to fresh Hokkaido Cream * Au Lait Nama Chocolate Choice Milk Chocolate + fresh Cream = Smooth & Rich *** There are also 5 flavors of Royce' Nama Chocolates without liquor: * Mild Cacao Nama Chocolate Light Cacao flavors and aroma * Mild Milk Nama Chocolate Fresh cream blended Milk Chocolate * Mild White Nama Chocolate White Chocolate meets Cream for your Dream * Ghana Bitter Nama Chocolate Smooth buttery Chocolate with a bite * Ecuador Sweet Nama Chocolate Clean & sweet goodness of Cacao from Ecuador There are several other styles and types of chocolates at Royce' other than the Nama Chocolate. Try 'n buy those as you want, but don't miss the chance to experience the fresh Nama Chocolates. My favorite is the Matcha Nama Chocolate with smooth creamy White Chocolate coupled with the aroma and bitterness of premium Green Tea and just a hint of Cherry Brandy. If you love Green Tea, check out the Royce' Matcha Box Set which will set you back a $100, but hey, some chocolates are worth it, I guess. The set includes Matcha-haves: Matcha Bars, Matcha Almonds, Nama Matcha, Wafers Matcha, and Prafeuille Matcha. Royce' Chocolate was founded in 1983 in chilly Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan. Royce' dedication to crafting memorable, high-quality chocolates has now made its way to Chicago and we are all the beneficiaries of what just may be the best chocolate I've every had.

Yelp
Oh my!!! Having Royce in Chicago is one of the best things happened in my life in 2016. To all the chocolate fans, try this place if you are in downtown. I used to always buy Royce in Japan, Taiwan, or New York City. So it's amazing to have Royce just in Chicago. It sounds ridiculous, I know. You might say - just chocolate don't be exaggerating. Their signature chocolate collection, as I show in my pictures, are a must! I personally love matcha, so that's my favorite one. It'll be a good choice if you like matcha product. It's sweet but it's not overwhelming. It still balances this little cube in a perfect way that melts in your mouth. This also tastes very good with any tea you have on your counter. I also like dark green milk chocolate one with champagne. I can't really taste champagne but it does add layers of taste to it. If you are a fan of dark chocolate, they have multiple choices with and without wine hint. White chocolate is good but might be too sweet for some of you. They often offer samples and it is worth trying. The staff in this location is friendly every time I visit. This product is a bit pricy so you would like to try it before making purchases. It's hard to leave downtown without Royce chocolate for me! My Taiwanese, Japanese, and Chinese friends all love Royce. Even a stranger on Michigan Avenue asked me " Wait what do we have Royce in Chicago now?" Try it and I hope you'll love what I love for years!! As you can see, their festive gift wrapping is so beautiful!
google avatar

Richelle T.

Yelp
If you want a good quality chocolate, try Royce chocolates. It's from Japan and I can't say enough about them. I had coworkers try them and they loved it so much that they keep eating them. They also have some free samples if you don't know which flavor to choose from. Make great gifts as well! You don't need to fly to Japan.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! I love chocolate, and ROYCE's Nama is the best I've ever had. This boutique is at the lovely Shop at North Bridge. Hirman, the owner, was as polite and nice as can be. I learned that the chocolates are imported from Japan. I don't drink alcohol, and they had great options for me. It's not often that a chocolate store has labels indicating that there is no alcohol in the chocolate. Lots of places use alcohol to make vanilla essence. If you don't want alcohol, you've got some great options to buy here! The Nama chocolate is so fresh, it's refrigerated. It's soft melt in your mouth and dusted with cocoa. Hirman offered me samples, and I wasn't expecting to love this chocolate so much. Smooth, and melts in your mouth. I believe there were 6 no alcohol options. Mild cacao, mild milk, mild white, Ghana bitter, and Ecuador sweet. I purchased the Nama Carmeliser, which was a seasonal special. I watched with excitement as Hirman packed it for me with an ice pack and in a pretty bag with a ribbon. Please know that this is a very reasonably priced place compared to how much chocolate you get. There are gourmet chocolate shops where truffles are way overpriced. The box of Nama was $18. It should be eaten by the date on the box. I had about 2 weeks. Love the little bricks and the little fork that comes with it. Hirman owns another shop in Arlington Heights. You can also gets chips and candy bars here. For me, though, I think it will have to be the Nama. Love it!

Bohan W.

Yelp
My favourite chocolates in the world. I was afraid that they would be hard to find in Chicago, since they don't have a shop selling them at the Mitsuwa here, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it while leaving Lao Sichuan The Nama chocolates are melt in your mouth chocolates you carve out with a spoon. Very temperature sensitive and they come with an ice pack and a cooling bag. If the weather is bad enough though, I've definitely had a batch ruined flying from Tokyo to Taipei. You're not going to get it to emulsify again after that happens, but still wonderful tasting nonetheless. I'm biased towards the current seasonal darjeeling tea flavour but the gianduja is fantastic as well.
google avatar

Natalie J.

Yelp
From the packaging to the chocolates themselves, amazing! Of the white, champagne and milk chocolate namas I tasted, the milk chocolate was the best. The chocolates themselves are decadent, thick and creamy sprinkled with cacao powder...I probably could eat the whole box. The wafers are a whole other level of goodness...I personally think it's better than the chocolate! I got the caramel wafers and they just melt in your mouth (salivating thinking of it], The caramel and chocolate melt as it hits your mouth mixing into this bursting mixture of creamy goodness. The crisp wafers adding both texture and extra flavor mmmmm. I'd bet the hazelnut one was good too! Will definitely be back to try other things!
google avatar

Nathan C.

Yelp
I walked into this store because my friend, who is a chocolate savant, suggested ROYCE'. I recall being a bit skeptical, but this store visit changed my chocolate preferences forever. The salesman handed out free samples of their famous nama chocolate and the individual cubes of soft chocolate would dissolve into pure cream. I had never had chocolate comparable to this before so I immediately bought three boxes, one for myself and two for friends and family. I also went to Japan for spring break and ended up buying 10 boxes of ROYCE chocolate at the airport, where the prices were lower. The ROYCE chocolate journey started here though!
google avatar

Diep V.

Yelp
I really wish I had gotten the guy's name that was working the day we went in to buy chocolates to bring home for family & friends. He was nice enough to honor an online only promotion in-store for us (buy 5 get one free). He packed everything well for us and even gave us extra ice packs just in case. Great location & great employee!

Summer H.

Yelp
I'm so glad they have a store in Chicago. The chocolate is phenomenal as always. I'm not a chocolate person but ROYCE mana chocolate is the only exception.
google avatar

Denise T.

Yelp
I tried Royce chocolate for the first time in Japan! I'm so glad they brought it here! It is so good, especially the Nama matcha. It may be pricey but it's worth it! You can taste the matcha with every bite, & it's not that fake matcha flavor either.
google avatar

Odranre B.

Yelp
Hershey's quality chocolate in a Cartier packaging sold at Gold Coast area, of course you are gonna pay premium...
google avatar

Nikkie N.

Yelp
R u r34dy 2 g3t choc01at3 w4st3d?? I guess I'm not. Royce chocolate is full of hype for me. I mean, I like chocolate and all, but Royce is just A-OK! At 18$ a box and some handle with care type of packaging, I was expecting a little more. I did find that the chocolates tasted better the day after being purchased. I tried the matcha (green box), white (blue box), and gianduja/ hazelnut and almond paste (red box).
google avatar

Kaye S.

Yelp
I've been hearing about the famous Royce Chocolates from Japan and I'm so happy that I went to Chicago 10 days after this branch opened! I got the namas! I've never had a chocolate as good as this before! Melts in your mouth! A little pricey but it's worth it! They will pack your chocolates in a cooling bag that comes with an ice pack. Very ideal especially for those from out of town. Don't forget to ask if they have samples!
google avatar

Quan L.

Yelp
This time we tried the Champagne flavor, which has a hint of bitter Brandy taste. However, we did not really love it as we enjoy other flavors. A box of chocolate came with a cooling bag and a cold pack put inside it. We were pretty impressive the way they cared for their products and raise the service to a new level.
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
This is my favorite chocolate place. Not too sweet and all kind of flavor from Japan.
google avatar

Qianqian L.

Yelp
It's definitely the best chocolate I've ever tried in my life. After I tried Royce NAMA chocolate in NY, I could not stop thinking about how delicious it was! I'm so glad that we finally have Royce in Chicago!! Personally, I love champagne NAMA best!
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
Where I live there isn't a Royce chocolates. I love eating them, but the problem was this location. The hours said they were open at 10 AM. My boyfriend and I got there at 11 AM and it was closed. Today is a random Wednesday so I'm sure there isn't any holiday going on. So, if you are traveling and have a schedule try calling ahead to see if they pick up before you waste money for parking and time.
google avatar

Pertino P.

Yelp
Clean store with clear displays. I've been to their sister locations in Japan, NYC, Las Vegas and Cali so I am use to plentiful samples and more service so I was a little surprised by the dearth in both. I wanted to buy something different but was hesitant to do so without trying first. I ended up being a chicken and stuck to my tried and true matcha and milk chocolates. Overall I still love this brand of chocolate and won't hesitate to come back.
google avatar

Elise Z.

Yelp
It's a bit pricey but definitely worthy!! Mocha are the one you want to try for the first time (well, tastes not really like chocolate but amazing). Can't stop buying them!
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
This chocolate is truly the very best I've ever tasted. The Namas are all delicious and worthy the price..the Japanese did it right!!!! Visit the store and get some..I will!!!!!

Tijani L.

Yelp
Had really good chocolate and various choices of flavors but had to wait more than 30 minutes because the worker was out doing god knows what. Really loved their products, but there should be more employees on stand by or at least train one not to leave the store while on duty.

Amruta D.

Yelp
Addicted to the matcha chocolates! I've been to their store in Bombay, New York and Chicago and I have to say, every city that I travel to that has this store, I make sure I get my share of the Nama Matcha!
google avatar

Noli M.

Yelp
One of the best Chocolates in Chicago. WOW. I enjoyed every piece of it. Their welcoming is very special and unique. PLEASE, PLEASE try the chocolate Chips ( like salted Chips)
google avatar

Andria M.

Yelp
The NAMA chocolate will blow your mind! I have yet to try something I haven't liked. Stop by and ask for some samples and it's a great and unique gift idea!

Hng T.

Yelp
The best chocolate in the world!!!! I've had Nama since i was in highschool and nothing can replace it! Nama is an art, not just chocolate!

Neal N.

Yelp
Take my advice. Don't even try these chocolates. If you do, don't blame me if you gain 100 lbs in a month because you can't stop eating them! Absolutely the finest chocolates in town and I've sampled my share of fine chocolates.

O M.

Yelp
I got a box as a gift from a client of my company. He is a classy guy so he undoubtedly gave us classy gifts for a good business relationship. I've never heard of this company before, but instantly after seeing the packaging and tasting the product you knew it was something special. Easily beats other chocolatiers. The taste and unique assortment was kind of inspiring on the level of creativity from whoever makes it. I don't know if these products are made on sight or are shipped from a different location, but they are certainly a step above. While I don't eat much chocolate these days, i can certainly make the exception for these Orange/Mango Nama bars from time to time.
