The 38 Best Restaurants in Calgary, Canada - Eater

"After closing his famed eatery Anju, Roy Oh took nearly two years to reemerge in the city’s food scene. Now, people flock to his Mission restaurant, Roy’s Korean Kitchen, to eat the chef’s long-standing specialties like oxtail tortellini, crispy tofu with maple sesame kimchi, and pork belly with lemon aioli. Oh serves up Korean barbecue platters, too, as well as plenty of soju. [$$-$$$]" - Dan Clapson

"Calgary chef Roy Oh — his much-missed modern Korean restaurant Anju made the Canada’s 100 Best list three times running — is finally back, with Roy’s Korean Kitchen. The takeout-only business sells Anju favourites, like the crave-worthy gochujang wings and lettuce wraps, along with a rotation of new seasonal dishes."

We've been going to Roy's Kitchen every couple of Mondays for their Billie's Smash Burgers pop up for the past few months now. WOW! Finally a smash burger that has been well smashed with crispy edges. What really got us going was the cheese skirt option...for cheese lovers...this is a dream! (even better when the burger is cut in half). The burgers are available with single, double or triple smash patties...not a juicy burger compared to a regular thick patty, but we find it very tasty. Crinkle cut fries were crispy and delicious dipped into a cheese sauce or eaten with chili. Last week, I had their pizza sub special and it was definitely a delicious bite. Not a big sandwich, but had all the flavours I was craving. Service is lovely...genuinely friendly and attentive without being hovering. Thank you!! It's really quiet on Mondays because I don't know if everyone knows about this pop up, but it sure has become a favourite of ours! Two things to note: Resos are on Open Table, and the regular Roy's menu is not available on Monday nights during the pop up.

Really enjoyed our visit. Server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We got to try a variety of dishes...they were amazing! We especially loved the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, the Brussel Sprouts, and the Crispy Tofu. It's a great place to go on a double date. Everything was full of flavor. The Cucumber Basil Soju Smash Cocktail was refreshing...And of course wine is always good. Can't go wrong with this place!

Most of the flavors can be found at other korean restaurants. We found that the prices were out there, our bill came to near $200 and neither of us were happy with any dish. We did enjoy some cocktails which was good.

Food and drinks are both pretty good but it is on the pricier side. They also forgot to bring our short ribs the first time. Brussel sprouts - super yummy especially with the fried rice cake Oxtail tortellini - personally felt that truffle taste trumped everything else, couldn’t taste the oxtail at all Pork belly and short ribs - both are pretty good but felt like the portions are small Their drinks are definitely worth a try, they are pretty unique

Had an amazing meal at Roy’s Kitchen. Service was a touch slow at the beginning but the food more than made up for it. I’ll definitely be going back again.

Very busy, make sure to reserve a table when coming on Saturday evenings! We were lucky to get a spot at the bar. Awesome decor and nice atmosphere. You can watch the cooks prepare your food. The staff is super friendly and really knowledgeable. The food tasted amazing! The spicy tuna on crispy rice was for sure our favorite. What a nice experience to try new and extremely flavorful foods!

Came down on a sunny day to enjoy the patio. Missed our favorite Anju dishes and were excited to come down and try! Service was great we had Kristen and Gideon who took great care of us and made us feel special. Went for some soy pickles and pickled daikon to start, so much flavour! Paired with some delicious cocktails we started with their feature, a riff on a paper plane I believe as well as their fresh tasting soju sour. Their glassware and presentation are lovely. Went for spicy gochujang wings which were crispy and juicy. The best Brussel sprouts in the city - next time I need to ask for extra rice cake I love the texture. Also went for grilled shishito peppers which are always a great snack. We wanted to get their beef tataki but they were all out. We received the cutest little sushi trio in apology which was going above and beyond with caring service. Super tasty little bites! Wanted to get the japchae which is always a favorite as well but was too absolutely stuffed, we will have to come back soon. Congratulations to the staff on a great restaurant opening during difficult times. Can't wait to see the dining room I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Yelp
Delicious Korean dishes in a comfortable space. Good drinks options. Everything we ordered was nicely prepared and fresh. There are lots of good choices on the menu and I look forward to trying some more. Service was ok but not memorable. Good spot for a pleasant Korean meal.

Yelp
Amazing, and a must. The vibes, decor, ambiance, music and food makes this place a must for dinner. The service and bartender were superior. Strongly suggest the oxtail dumplings, and kimchi Ceasars salad. It was our first dinner in Calgary, during the holiday season, 2023, and we dined sufficiently. The Playlist was a walk down memory lane. The Ohio Players, Earth Wind and Fire; Bill Withers, Cheryl Lynn, The Gap Band, Commodores, Lakeside, George Clinton, Cameo, Dianna Ross, Micheal Jackson....

Roy is back again on 4th Street. I ordered take out today from his restaurant and it was absolutely dynamite. Great food with his personal care and attention. I enjoyed it I'm sure you would. Go and check it out. Five thumbs up!!!

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I've had in Calgary. Also very fair prices; we had 6 different dishes and 4 drinks for less than $200. Very clean, modern and comfortable interior with great and attentive service staff. Food was amazing with large portion sizes. We will be returning to try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Had the KFC and Brussel sprouts. Very good combo. Some people say the chicken was spicy but was just perfect for me.
