"Roy Yamaguchi is one of the founders of Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine, a movement toward showcasing local ingredients and upscale techniques alongside the islands’ fusion of Asian influences. Now, there are more than a dozen locations of Roy’s, including this one in SoMa. It’s a great place to taste classics that influenced a generation of cooks, such as tuna poke with wonton chips or blackened ahi with soy-mustard butter sauce." - Janelle Bitker

Everything was delicious! I ordered the shellfish plate and it was flavorful, tender and fresh. I tried some of the butter fish and that was very good also. They even had complimentary dessert for our anniversary. Parking was easy to find right in the street.

The experience eating at Roy's was nice, wait staff was attentive and pleasant and the food and drink was prepared quite expertly. We were celebrating our anniversary and they provided us with a pleasant little note on the table. I suppose this level of celebrity fish preparation does come at a premium as the dinner was a bit on the pricey side.

Good overall experience. Went for anniversary dinner. Staff was courteous if not entirely attentive (could have used a water refill). Went on a Sunday night and had their prefixed menu options which ends up being a great value. The food was fantastic.

Nice food presentation, tasty meal, had to ask for water refill. Bathroom mirror frame worn down by sink splash. Noted some plates looked worn down.

Well. I’m a pretty good reviewer normally as far as not unfairly hitting businesses with negative reviews. Here’s the deal, the food was good, not great. However, the service was awful. I eat out a lot and this was not right. The biggest issue was that it was so slow. It took about 90 minutes to get food. It was all luke warm. When we questioned the server he was un-apologetic and didn’t get it. He didn’t offer anything or any worthwhile comment. So odd for a “high end restaurant”. Had the food been the only deciding factor, I would have given it a 3-star rating. The service was a negative -1 so I went with a 1-start rating overall. In a fantastic culinary city such as San Francisco, there are so many better options. Go somewhere else and thank me later.

It was good food. Friendly staff. It would have been better if there were new and interesting items on the menu.

I’ve been to Roy’s all over the country and the food at this particular visit did not disappoint! My swordfish was soft and flavorful and our sushi starter really hit the spot. Everyone had a great meal! You should definitely expect San Francisco prices but you do get great food for your money. Our service was pretty good, they were attentive without hovering. The one downside for me was that even though it was very spacious, high ceilings, and there was no music (as far as I could tell), it was still extremely loud. It was so echoey that voices created a loud din that made it hard to converse with the other people in my party. If you’re looking for good seafood definitely stop in, if you’re in the mood for conversation maybe keep looking.
