Roy's Soul Food

The food is always delicious. I love this place because of all of the places that you go to now for soul food. The food isn't really seasoned like soul food is seasoned for just everyone when soul food should actually taste like soul food this place taste like someone is cooking soul food your mother or grandmother in their home. The food is delicious. Their breakfast is delicious. Their dinners are delicious. The food is absolutely amazing. The service is great. I wish their hours were a little better. I believe they're closed on Sundays and Mondays. Everyone deserve some rest, but those are really good days for people to go out and purchase food but outside of that the food is amazing.

I surely love there peach cobbler and I love there bake chicken and rice and spaghetti yummy prices are good can't wait to try the breakfast

You can never go wrong at Roy's! Good food, friendly service and exceptional owner/staff. The breakfast is very good (pancakes. Eggs, meat!).

First of all let me say that the food was nasty as hell. Also the service was hands down rude and ignorant. And as far as abundance goes it doesn't they gave me more potatoes not hash browns potatoes cooked on the grill with a bunch of onions no seasoning the eggs was watery and the sausages was burnt and to top it off I ordered the pancake breakfast with the side of hash browns and I didn't get no pancakes. And when I asked her could I just return the orders to I might add she told me I can come in correct it I don't want to correction I say too far from the restaurant to have to drive all the way back over there to correct something that shouldn't be corrected. So in my point of view they need to be closed down with all that old ass stuff in there they need a modernize it and get some order because they take too damn long to make eggs and sausages that had no flavor and was burnt.

Carryout only. Daily specials are really good. Catfish is delicious. Will come back. Next time I will phone first.

The soul food here is delicious. The smothered pork chops and rice entree is a definite favorite. Great customer service.

I ordered several meals and each was very good. They were a bit too salty but I ate it. Turkey with dressing is delicious. The fried pork chops were too crisp, the smothered pork chops were ok and the baked chicken was great. The sides: The beans were tender but salty. Macaroni was dry but tasty. Sweet potatoes were good. Rice was good. Corn bread was thick but dry. Cornbread Dressing was excellent. Called in my order. 25 minute with no wait. The prices have increased. There is no place to sit. Call in/Take out only.

This is a take out restaurant. The food is fresh and most importantly the prices are very reasonable . I have sampled quite a few of their dishes and the food reminds me of home when I was growing up.

Excellent food and service! & The food arrive on time . I catered my brothers repast food from here and people were getting thirds and taking a 4th plate home too. I ordered spaghetti w meat (has a little sweet edge to it), Mac n cheese (magnifficent) green beans w potatoes(seasoned well), and candied yams (great). .My only complaint is I would have cut the yams in half the size they were cut. The customers in the store raved how good the food was and there's always a crowd of people there (speaks volumes). Made with love by sweet people. Black excellence! Merit (Shanny)

Roy's delivers a very tasty Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. I was extremely satisfied with their service as were the other members of my senior community. Roy's provided the holiday dinner for my community in 2022. We were not able to use them this year because our admin contacted them too late to book their catering service.

Loved everything! I ate everything on my plate AND finished my husband's. The mac n cheese was my "litmus test" and it was perfect. It was a like having a true southern Sunday Dinner! The best part: I just didn't have to cook it. Stephanie.

I'm so happy that this restaurant is in my neighborhood. I don't have to travel to Hyde Park for overpriced breakfast and Soul Food. My sister told me about this place and she lives in South Shore. I can't say enough about how tasty the food is and the service is incredible. They answer the phone quickly, even during busy times and are always pleasant AND confirm your order and the time it will be available. Roy and Ms Bebe are a neighborhood necessity!

Stopped in for lunch yesterday and had porkchop sandwich with a side of greens. Food had a homemade taste that was spot on! Menu was limited and nothiing fancy , but enough selection to make it interesting. Place was def busy. Will return if I get a chance.

My husband and I went here for breakfast one weekend when we were kid free. While dating we loved going to little "holes in the wall". We walked in to the blues playing and friendly staff and customers alike. One look at the mans plate across from me and I decided to have lunch for breakfast and dinner later. We had the smothered pork chops (steaks) cabbage, and macaroni & cheese...My OMG moment was after tasting the mac & cheese, if I didn't know better I would have thought mamma and grandma were back in the kitchen. Most people make their mac and cheese full of Velveeta with an egg and milk binder, this one was made with a roux! I am starting to drool just thinking about it! The cabbage perfect with a hint of spice, and the biscuit reminded me of Breakfast after Sunday School. The pork chop was really pork steak and left something to be desired but the sides and biscuit more than made up for it and I cant wait to go back to try the dressing. If it is a hit then I doubt I will be cooking for Easter this year!. Good food, good portions, good price. I only gave 4 stars because my husband used his debit card, it was charged twice and by a business with a different name from the restaurant?

Enjoy eating at Roy's I go there quite often went in today the service was unacceptable after ordering my food waiting 20 minutes only to be told they don't have they don't have what I order if a person after me or that the same thing after completing her order they cook says I have to wait another 45 minutes to an hour for him to finish preparing what I wanted the food is great but the service is unacceptable

we have been visiting Roy s soul food since prior to the pandemic. we highly recommend you try this excellent soul food. the meat portions are plentiful ,the sides are good,and its prepared nicely. furthermore the prices are very reasonable compared to Roys competitors. if there is a problem with your order Roy and his very friendly wife (bebe) will fix or replace your order. thank you all for your fine service mj

Me and my partner went here on a Saturday and ordered the baked chicken and the smothered steak. The Mac and cheese tasted like it was freezer burned, but everything else was great. Perfect flavor, seasonings, and a good size portion

I like Roy's, the food and the people. It's a community setting. Went just for the breakfast and then went back again. Why? It was priced right. Quick and you get what you asked for. Try it. And, they may even play one or two blues songs for you.

The food was horrible I tried the smothered pork chops it was so horrible no flavor or taste. tastes like hospital food

I ordered pancakes, bacon and eggs and it was under mediocre. The pancakes tasted like they came straight from a box. One of the pancakes was so light that I was annoyed that they would think it was acceptable to serve. You can't be lazy when people are paying for service.

this restaurant has really fell off. Very sloppy . Good has no flavor at all. Ordered to smothered chicken dinners and I got bake chicken which was dry with gravy slapped on it. Won't be ordering from this place again. Very disappointed in this place. I would of preferred they said that didn't have smothered chicken.

My man and I have been here a few times since moving to the east side. We're always satisfied when we eat @ Roy's!!!

My boyfriend and I always SPLIT a $10 dinner for breakfast and we are satisfied for the rest of the day. All of the food is great and the owner and staff are always friendly and welcoming! Loyal customer.

This was so nasty the salmon was not cooked all the way!!! Then the Mac cheese was over cooked! My 1 time eating here was great! Today's food was horrible won't b bck! Done

We love Roy's for breakfast. We get the Roy's breakfast special with sausage patties. There is a jukebox with old school jams. The waitresses and patrons argue like family. It's a great time every time.

I read all the reviews about this place before driving there. I must have caught them on an extremely bad day. Had my 2 grandchildren with me. Staff draped over counter talking. All tables looked messing, crumbs, stains, some form or another. Place Looked dingy and dirty; on the dark side too. The menu on the wall was worn. Such a poor 1st impression we LEFT. If the kitchen looked like the dining room, I did not think it was safe to eat there. I HONESTLY THINK EITHER FAMILY OR OWNER WROTE THOSE GREAT REVIEWS.

Don't go here - (1) rude owner (2) food prices are higher than all other soul food places (3) food is bland. I gave them 3 tries - the last time I called in an order for pick up, they gave me the wrong items (someone else's order). I didn't know until I got home and opened the package. Better choices: Mama Lou's or Morrison's
