Rozengrāls (Vinarium civitatis rigensis)

My husband and I were blessed to experience this restaurant twice, first on Valentine's Day 2026, and again a few days later because there was menu options we wanted to try. Both experiences were amazing. We didnt know about reservations the first visit and it being Valentine's Day and seeing how many people were out with their partners, we new it was a slim chance to get seated but we just had to try once we discovered it. Seating took 10 mins tops and we were nestled in a back room with absolute charming medieval decor with a very personable server. I had the duck with cranberry sauce, the fried rye bread, and finished with pistachio ice cream. My husband had the beef cheeks. The honey wine was fantastic, the duck was so tender and flavorful, and I am still living in awe that a place like this exists. The second go, my husband got the venison stew, I had the French onion soup, and both came in giant cauldrons hung over a tiny spit with actual live coals! Mind blown at the ingenuity! We also shared the chicken with curry and bourbon sauce and holy moly that was delicious as well! They do not skimp on any portions. Our second time dining we got to eat next to the kitchen and our female waitress was so friendly and sweet. She took pictures for tables, it was by far the best service I've had at any eating establishment by far. My only regret is I do not live in Riga or Europe so it will be a very long time until I can eat here again.

Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone coming to Riga, it’s truly a must-have experience! We made a reservation for our very first day in Riga, and it exceeded all our expectations. From the service and interior design to the entire concept of the restaurant (the lighting, the atmosphere, and every single detail), everything was impressive. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was incredibly good. Our waiter was extremely polite, very helpful and friendly. The food was exceptional, we were a group of six, each of us ordered a different type of meat, and we shared everything among ourselves. It was simply WOW, every single dish we ordered was of the highest quality!

An amazing experience! Worth 5 stars just for decor & ambience! It's a genuine 13th Century cellar; candle-lit and so atmospheric! The staff are dressed in period costume and despite some reviews to the contrary, they were helpful and friendly; happy to describe the menu items and give us the history of the building... I guess that some people are more needy than others! The food was very hearty! Very much in keeping with the theme, not haut cruisine but tasty and plentiful. Overall, a fabulous experience worthy of a 5 star review!

A truly unique restaurant in Riga that you shouldn’t miss. The moment you step inside, it feels like traveling back to the Middle Ages — the stone arches, dim candlelight, and authentic atmosphere are absolutely impressive. The staff were very friendly and polite, and the food was decent as well. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. Definitely worth visiting when you’re in Riga.

A trip back to the medieval times. Once youre at the door, you'll be greeted by and door keeper, dressed in old clothes. When he opens the door you'll find yourself in time capsul. Very beautiful old Basement, I can highly recommend to explore it while youre there. The food is from old recepies and taste amazing. To much taste in each dish. Cosy atmosphere and dimmed light inside.

Very cool place with a nice decor and cosplay. The food on the other hand didn’t unfortunately match the price, it was dry and didn’t taste very much (even though they did agree to provide us with more sauce). The concept is very cool in a cave with dungeon. They don’t write allergens in the menu which led to one in our company ordering a cake containing nuts. As soon as we got the cake we asked to have it removed from the bill. The fault was both ours(we should’ve asked) and theirs(they should’ve informed), and they should take the hit for it, not us. We threw the cake away.

Food is really good. As you can see, we ordered the biggest platters, containing almost everything from the menu. Delicious, well cooked, the food came really fast to our table. Excellent meat, outstanding cabbage and more sauces than you thought you would need! The servers were really nice and polite and were speaking english very well. The room we were sat in was further away from the live show (which is also a nice experience by the way), but who needs to be close when one has a giant jug of beer! 🍻 The atmosphere is perfect, every table is candlelit. But be prepared to leave your phone down, as the place is underground and signal might be scarce. The place offers card payments.

Visited in Sep 2025 Rozengrals is one of the most famous restaurants in Riga and decided to pay a visit for dinner during my trip to Riga. The restaurant is very conveniently located in the Old Town. The restaurant has a very medieval cellar type of feel, and as a result offers a very unique ambience for a dining experience. Almost felt like I am having dinner in one those tavern they showed in Game of Thrones 🙂 The food menu has quite a few item to choose from. We didn’t order any starters or snacks, and just ordered 2 mains (the catfish filet and the rabbit meat stew). The portion sizes were more than decent and us 2 pax weren’t able to finish the 2 dishes in entirety. For dessert, we ordered the sea buckthorn and quince cake which was really good. For drinks, we ordered a couple of beers. Their regular draft beer is quite nice. Service was ok, a bit on the slower side but that’s understandable as the restaurant can get quite crowded. I had made a reservation from beforehand (by calling them), and would recommend making a reservation due to the popularity of this place. Overall, it was a decent dinner. It wasn’t the best food I had in Riga but it was definitely one of the better overall experiences given the ambience and decor of the place. Just because of its unique environment, I’d definitely recommend folks visiting Riga to have a meal (lunch or dinner) at Rozengrals.
