A Delano anchor known for fried tacos, fajitas, and big burritos. In April 2025, ownership passed to a longtime local restaurateur who kept the same staff and recipes, reported by KMUW and KWCH, preserving its neighborhood feel.

I give this place a 10/10 everything was absolutely amazing from the chips and salsa to the chopped carne asada all the way to the fried ice cream everything was amazing. The owner Ruben even came by and greeted us and asked how the food was to which we responded everything was amazing and this place has now become our new favorite restaurant. We will definitely be back and we encourage everyone to go and support this business the staff is very kind and attentive and the owner is very sweet everyone loves him.

We ended up stopping to eat here unplanned, first time here the place is very clean to include their restrooms huge props on that. The service was not an issue both servers were super nice, but the food though definitely is not Mexican it has huge differences that are not mentioned in the menu or advertised anywhere. We ordered Enchiladas and they were Flour tortillas 😶 plus my "Suizas" had like a green spaghetti type sauce not the original green tomatillo sauce and the chicken inside was in chunks not shredded. They had a cheese dip that I DO NOT recommend it was like white velveeta cheese made with extra oily ground beef in it which made it look like vomit. Taste was not the worst just the presentation was definitely not great. All in all if you just want to eat food go there but if your looking for good Mexican food this is not your place at all.

This was delicious. We are from out of town and want a good meal. This place popped up on my google search. It had good reviews, so we thought we'd try it. We weren't disappointed. They were fast and friendly. The food was good. The salsa was perfect mix of spices and heat. Will definitely come back the next time we're in town.

Google
What's not to like about a steak burrito with some shrimp on top! I'm usually not a steak fan in a burrito but thought I would try this one since it came with shrimp and I was glad I did. The steak was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Not chewy like most places like to throw in a burrito. The ladies taking care of us were all very nice and fast.

During a recent visit to Wichita, Kansas, I had the pleasure of dining at Ruben's Mexican Grill, located at 915 W Douglas Ave. This establishment has garnered a reputation for serving authentic Mexican cuisine in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Eager to experience their offerings, I decided to try their Chilaquiles with beef, a dish that holds a special place in traditional Mexican breakfast cuisine. Ambiance and Service Upon entering Ruben's Mexican Grill, I was immediately struck by the vibrant yet cozy interior. The walls are adorned with colorful Mexican art, creating an atmosphere that is both lively and welcoming. The seating is comfortable, and the layout allows for both intimate dinners and group gatherings. The staff greeted me warmly and promptly guided me to a table. Throughout my meal, the service was attentive without being intrusive, with servers checking in regularly to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. The Chilaquiles with Beef Chilaquiles is a traditional Mexican dish that consists of corn tortillas cut into quarters and lightly fried. These crispy tortilla pieces are then simmered in salsa—either red or green—until they begin to soften. The dish is typically topped with a variety of ingredients, such as cheese, eggs, or meat. At Ruben's, the Chilaquiles are prepared with green salsa and can be ordered with beef or chicken, accompanied by shredded cheese, rice, and beans. When the dish arrived, it was a feast for the eyes. The presentation featured a generous portion of chilaquiles topped with tender strips of beef, melted cheese, and a sprinkling of fresh cilantro. The accompanying sides of rice and refried beans were neatly arranged, completing the plate. The first bite was a delightful blend of textures and flavors. The tortilla chips retained a slight crispness, providing a pleasant contrast to the rich and tangy green salsa. The beef was cooked to perfection—tender and flavorful, complementing the zest of the salsa. The melted cheese added a creamy richness, while the fresh cilantro imparted a hint of freshness that elevated the dish. The rice was fluffy and well-seasoned, and the refried beans were smooth and savory, making them excellent companions to the main attraction. Menu and Offerings Ruben's Mexican Grill offers a diverse menu that caters to a wide range of palates. In addition to the Chilaquiles, they serve a variety of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and specialty dishes. Notable items include the Burrito California, a large burrito stuffed with grilled steak, chicken, bell peppers, and onions, smothered with cheese sauce and served with a side of rice and shrimp. For seafood enthusiasts, the Del Mar features three tacos—two tilapia fish and one shrimp—served with tartar sauce, cabbage, pico de gallo, and a side of rice. The restaurant also offers a selection of wines by the glass, including Chardonnay, White Zinfandel, Moscato, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sweet Red, providing options to complement various dishes. Special Offers and Online Ordering One of the appealing aspects of Ruben's Mexican Grill is their commitment to customer satisfaction through special offers and convenient services. They feature a happy hour special where customers can buy one drink and get the second at half price between 2 PM and 6 PM, making it an excellent opportunity to unwind after a long day. For those who prefer to enjoy their meals at home, Ruben's offers online ordering for takeout. The process is straightforward: customers can select their desired items from the online menu, place an order, and pick it up at their convenience. This service is particularly beneficial for individuals with busy schedules who still wish to savor authentic Mexican cuisine. Conclusion My experience at Ruben's Mexican Grill was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of a welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and delectable dishes like the Chilaquiles with beef makes it a standout destination for anyone seeking genuine Mexican flavors in Wichita.

Google
Very crisp chips to go with great tasting cilantro salsa. Hot is not too hot. I had the Taco Loco. Very good and a lot of food. I wasn't sure how too eat it, way to much filling to fold it up and eat it like a taco. So I just requested a knife and cut it all to bite size pieces. I am not sure but does anyone know if deep fring a jalapeño takes away the heat. The jalapeño added flavor but no heat to the dish. Will frequent again if I find myself wanting a Mexican dish when in Delano. Pepsi products.

Google
The owners are great! The food is top-notch. I highly recommend the Anita's special! Deliciously flavored steak and chicken with rice, melted cheese, and hot tortillas. I personally like to add jalapenos and ask for lime with their hot sauce. It keeps me coming back every time and is a regular spot for me.

Google
Some of the best Mexican food we've had. Loved the refried beans, salsa and cheese dip. The pork in the burrito was so tender and juicy. Service not so great our waitress was not really friendly and never came over to check on us.

Yelp
We miss Rueben & Anita but the new owners are doing it right!! Taco Tuesday tasted like always. We will be back.

Yelp
Rubens remains one of our favorite Mexican restaurants for lunch. Over the years the food has been consistently good as well as the service. We've enjoyed a variety of the dishes on the menu .

Yelp
TL:DR - food was great but skip it on the weekends! This review is based on two visits. The first visit - during a Wednesday afternoon - was superb. Service was great, food was hot and quick. Zero complaints! The second visit - the following Friday evening - was a totally different experience. The server had an attitude upon her first stop at our table. I understand restaurants can be very busy on Friday nights, but being short with your customers unprovoked is crazy. We waited over an hour for food, one of our orders never made it to the kitchen, and refills on chips and salsa were slow. Not the worst customer service I've ever had in a restaurant but far from the best. Eat in with caution.

Yelp
I've always wanted to checkout Ruben's every time I drove down Douglas. We were happily greeted with a basket of chips and salsa. The hot salsa was really good! I was happy it wasn't tomato saucy, they added cilantro and additional ingredients to it. The chips were a bit too thick for my liking, but I guess it helped me not eat as much and save room for food food. I ordered the Create Your Own Lunch: Flour Taco, Tamale, Beef Enchilada. The tamale was probably the best item on the plate. It was topped with chili verde which was really flavorful. The masa and meat inside remained moist, which makes me think they make the tamale batches on the regular. Nothing seemed temperature hot beside the tamale. The beef enchilada was warm which made the cheese thick. The beef didn't have much flavor. The rice was tasty and cooked perfectly. Service was excellent and efficient! Ice waters were always filled and the waitress had a welcoming attitude. They work very well as a team to make sure every customer is taken care of. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The windows bring a lot of natural light in.

Yelp
The food was amazing! We have been there before a few years ago and were not impressed. They have new owners now and the staff is very friendly. We will be going on a regular basis.

Greg T.

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner Monday evening. It's been quite a while since we had been there. The service was very quick and friendly. The food was outstanding! I'm not sure why it had been so long, but will not make that mistake again. We'll be back soon

Yelp
Rubin's is an authentic Mexican restaurant. He has great food at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is good and people are friendly. I love the fish dinner. Rubin is always there to make sure everything is right. Located in old town it is one of my favorite places to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty middle of the road Mexican food. Service was good, and the atmosphere was pretty standard. Ordered the chilaquiles, which were advertised as spicy but weren't in the slightest.

Zoey S.

Yelp
Rice was dry asf and cheese quesadilla was gross to me also the greens sauce isn't green it's orange and the owner said it's because the green sauce is too spicy for the white people that eat there so he can't make it like that so just keep that in mind so you know what you're getting. The costumer service was good everyone was very nice but I will not be going back I'm disappointed
google avatar

Marcia H.

Yelp
Great lunch and my first time here. Quesadillas were perfect temperature and service was great. Authentic music too!!! Love to hear that when I go to hispanic business.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
I had the chicken chimichanga. It was cooked correctly with a nice crunch to the tortilla, but service wasn't great. There are many better Mexican restaurants than Ruben's without the Delano address. The hot salsa was mild. The mild salsa was also mild, but had a slightly different flavoring. They were ok, but nothing to write home about. The real telltale sign was that the only Mexican customer was the guy that came with me. So if want gringo food with slow service, come here. Otherwise seek out some of the more authentic Mexican restaurants all around the city.

Yelp
My son and I had just visited the Wichita Exploration Museum and wanted to try a local restaurant and this place looked it. It wasn't bad, but certainly was not the best Mexican food I've ever had. The service was good and the environment was quaint and friendly. I just wasn't overwhelmed with the food. Try it for yourself as it's conveniently located in an eclectic part of town. I'd be willing to try it again as I don't like making bad judgements off of one-time visits.

Yelp
Horrible all the way around. Slow service, horrible drinks, and Mexican food so poorly cooked and put together it's an insult to Mexicans. Do not spend your money here.
google avatar

Elaine S.

Yelp
Every time we go to Rubens , we get Great service Great Food.. always the Best best highly recommend this restaurant. Best Mexican restaurant in town.. The owner comes around checking on his guests. Such a friendly Atmosphere. Thank you Reuben for being in business we love coming to your restaurant.

Yelp
I enjoyed the Tamales dinner. So did my employee. This is been a favorite place of mine for many years. I didn't like that on their credit card system, their tip option starts at 20% and goes to 30%! Not every server deserves 20%.

Brian M.

Yelp
We had seven people and were somehow able to be sat right away. Staff was very nice and food came out quickly. The quest was fantastic. The steak quesadilla was probably one of the best that I've ever had. I've been away from this place too long. I definitely need to be a regular.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite go-to restaurant in Delano. If I go without eating here for two weeks, I get itchy. People will always ask why I'm in such a terrible mood and I'll answer, "I'm sorry. I just haven't had a Pancho Villa burrito from Ruben's since last Tuesday." My friends and family know at that point that they need to probably give me some space until I've at least had some chips and salsa.
google avatar

Angie E.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, california burrito was really good, more like a fajita burrito with queso. Shrimp was on point. Only thing we didn't like was the salsa, kind of tasted like pizza sauce, not a huge fan. Other than that friendly, clean, and quick service.

Jeb B.

Yelp
Three of us went for lunch to try for the first time. I ordered the Ceviche and the taste was not good. Maybe was old. Idk. The other two that went with me ordered different plates and both said their food was not great either. We won't be going back as nothing special there. The atmosphere is nice all I can say good about.

Yelp
We went to Ruben's about 3:00PM. They were not very busy at that time - about 4 tables filled. I love Ruben's and used the go to their old location a lot. This was my husband's first time. He had the chicken fajitas and I had the Burrito Pancho Villa. His fajitas came out sizzling with all the extras including rice and beans although he would have liked more lettuce. My burrito was huge! With beef, pork, beans, lettuce, cheese and covered in a pork red sauce. It came with pico, sour cream and guacamole. I lived my burrito and couldn't finish all of it. My husband was so, so on his fajitas. He is very picky about fajitas and food in general. The bite I had was good, not overly seasoned though. Service was pleasant and quick. They also were very on top of the cleanliness. Ruben's has always been our new of my favorite places.

Yelp
Had them for the 1st time on 11/5./21. Takeout. Service was good but food could have been better. Overpriced for what you get. Tacos only 1/4 filled. Pretty much all shell. A couple of strands of cheese. Pancho Villa small with odd taste. What little meat inside was chewey. Nothing at all like the ones from Felipe's. What little bit of sauce they sent was good. Almost $50 for four small meals that were8that good. Don't think I will be a return customer.

Josie B.

Yelp
Yucky food. Worst Mexican food in ICT Not worth going. We won't be back. Horrible service as well

Cindy C.

Yelp
Walking in there is a sign warning of a price increase but didn't pay much attention. There was a weird smell and a fan blowing. We were sat right away. The chip and salsa were just ok. We ordered an appetizer of guacamole. It was three very small scoops with lettuce to make it look like more. After we ate the appetizer the server took our food order. The service was awful!! Our server didn't get drinks right or food orders correct but we didn't say anything to her. She seemed annoyed when we asked for a knife to cut the steak. When the bill came every thing was a dollar more then what was listed on the menu! When we asked the server she said there is a sign on the door of price increases.

Billy M.

Yelp
I haven't gotten too many things here, but the guacamole is really fresh, and the prices are easy. Staff is always super friendly. It's just a good place to get your Mexican food fix.

Yelp
Again, I will preempt this review with a disclaimer: I LOVE MEXICAN FOOD and grew up in Southern California and was a Texas resident for 20 years, so I have eaten the best of the best Mexican food in the US. I, therefore, have to compare all Mexican restaurants to those, so here we go ... West of the river and downtown on Douglas, this small place looks little like a Mexican restaurant, but the food was decent, the prices fair, and the service excellent. The house margaritas ($4 - frozen or on the rocks) come in a mason jar and although a strange shade of green, were tasty but not very strong. The chips are made in house, crispy, and hot and they brought two salsas, one mild and one spicy, both were complex and delicious ... well done! Unfortunately, they add tomatoes to the guacamole, why I have no idea, like so many places, so I asked for a half order ($3) because my wife is allergic to tomato and I could not eat a full order ($6) alone. It was actually pretty good, one of the better restaurant guac's I have had in a while. My wife hates Mexican food ... BOOOO! ... so she ordered a cheeseburger and fries ($8). The bun was toasted and good, the burger so-so, and the frozen fries (what do you expect in a Mexican restaurant, house-cut?) were hot and crunchy. Not bad overall, but far from the best burger I have tasted. My wife gave it 4 Bombs Out of 10 and I concur. I had the carne asada tacos (3 for $10), accompanied by rice and beans minus the rice. Pleasantly presented with three slices of avocado, one for each corn tortilla, and far too little pico de gallo. The chopped carne asada was also not quite enough for the three tortillas, but it was flavorful nonetheless. I also ordered a cheese and onion enchilada ala carté ($3). It was awful! There was no sauce other than the tortilla having been dipped ever so briefly before wrapping the cheese and seemingly nonexistent onion. It was the worst enchilada I have ever had. Our server was extremely sweet and welcoming, running back and forth to get our drinks, chips, meals, and check. Very efficient, she was the highlight of the night. The food, like most Mexican places in the Midwest was "OK", nothing special. CombatCritic Gives Ruben's Mexican Grill A Very Average 5 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

Yelp
Amazing good, great service, and Ruben and his wife Anita are the sweetest people. They have a huge variety of options on their menu from healthy to authentic mexican food. Everything I've ever had there has been spot on delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant to all!
google avatar

Lizzie S.

Yelp
Terrible service. No one came back to our table after they gave us our drinks. There was hardly anyone in there. The waitress's act like they have no idea what's going on. They served everyone around us but us. Definitely don't recommend this place.
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Wonderful experience today. Service was prompt, server was kind and went out of her way to make sure our drinks and chips never ran out. Food was delicious!! Highly recommend checking it out!

Emily R.

Yelp
The most horrible margarita (with added food coloring) that I have ever had, stale chips and bad customer service. So many better Mexican restaurants in town.
google avatar

Brett B.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in Wichita period; solid menu, friendly staff, good drink selection.
google avatar

Sean R.

Yelp
I read a lot of reviews about this place, but it was rather disappointing. It's evidently owned by a small family, but there's something lacking about both the appearance and the food. I had the beef enchiladas, and it was saturated with cheese. Normally, any comment associated with choice is a good thing, but I like to taste my food. Just bland. Furthermore, I had a, "top shelf," margarita that tasted exactly like a lime slush. Whatever shelf they pulled that from, I'd like for it to be out of reach. No bueno.
google avatar

Danna H.

Yelp
I think their salsa was the best I have ever tasted. I had to get some to go. Anita's special is like fajitas without all the work. Delicious. Standard refried beans and rice. The waitress was perfect. I will definitely go back.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
First time eating there. Atmosphere was great and waitress was very friendly. I had the cali burrito it was great. My boyfriend had the Monterey he was very disappointed.
google avatar

Christie S.

Yelp
I enjoyed the Tamales dinner. So did my employee. This is been a favorite place of mine for many years. And such nice people.

B M.

Yelp
I love dining here. The service is wonderful and the food is always good. I DO NOT like that a political TV channel is always on. I go out to relax and to enjoy my time away from all the BS that is going on.
google avatar

Serle M.

Yelp
Fun place! Best fish plate I've had on awhile. All the plates looked great, especially the taco platter. The homemade guacamole and side order of jalapeños are new go-to snacks. Thank you!
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Cute place, good service. Food=mediocre. Everything I had (cheese and pork enchiladas, rice &beans) was in bad need of seasoning. Pretty bland. Next time I am in the area I will try TJ's burger place, which was packed for lunch.
google avatar

Regan A.

Yelp
If you like Mexican food from restaurants such as Carlos O'kelly's, Playa Azul or Felipe's then you will like Ruebans. If you like Mexican food from eateries such as Molino's, Mexican Cafe, Alejandro's or El Agave you will be disappointed in Ruebans. IMO, the food at Ruebans was bland, and Americanized. I had the fried flour tacos. They come packed with ground beef. I kept putting salt and salsa on them just to give more flavor. It came with beans and rice. Just plain ol refried beans out of a can and plain ol Mexican rice with no flavor. I asked for a side of pork chile verde to sample. Bland. My husband had the pork tamales. Again, no flavor. I mean no disrespect, I just prefer more seasoning. The waitstaff was friendly, prompt, curious. The restuarant is very clean and well cared for. Prices were average. The quantity was average to good. Pepsi products :-( Over all just average.

Yelp
Ruben's is a MUST visit! My family stopped in on a whim while visiting Wichita State. Excellent choice- the service was awesome! The waitress was knowledgable about the menu, very nice and attentive. The FOOD- was amazing! All items including appetizers very fresh! We had Guac for an appetizer, the taco and Burrito combo- their tacos are very original and delicious, and finally the Ruben special plate- also original- over easy eggs over a double burrito- AWESOME!! I know Mexican food and this gets my stamp of approval!!
google avatar

Christie M.

Yelp
Service was great! It is a day before Valentine's Day and each woman who walked in the door received a rose and small box of chocolates. It was so very thoughtful! The menu had a lot of options and presentation and taste of the food was excellent. We will be back!
google avatar

Soon-Hwa J.

Yelp
Are there for a late lunch, service was good and the food was even better! I'd go back for sure
google avatar

Dominic B.

Yelp
This place is so good. Coming from California I missed my Mexican food, all the other places here were very low quality except for Ruebens. Very good food for a decent price, their Burritos and guacamole are my favorite but everything I've had has all been great.
google avatar

Katrina C.

Yelp
We have never had a bad service here. Such friendly staff and owner's. The time is incorrect on the time, they close at 8:30pm. We had phoned in and when we picked up at 8:30pm they were closed. They opened for us to get our food and we told them their closing time said 9:00pm. Love this restaurant!! I love the enchilada dinner and my husband has the grilled chicken burrito. He has cravings later for it. Ruben's will be closed from May 26 to June 4 for vacation.

Anthony P.

Yelp
Family-owned, very service, and very good food. Burrito California was one of the best burritos I've ever had. Not a lot of seating, but luckily I didn't have to wait long. I could see that potentially being a problem however if it became very busy.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Can't really put 0 stars but Saturday 6/24/17 I tried to get my girlfriend to try it for the first time. After waiting 75 minutes and watching 6 tables come and go we never got lunch and left. No excuse for why order never came and all they wanted to do was offer up a free side of guacamole.
google avatar

Robyn R.

Yelp
I had lunch here, and ordered the Texas burrito. The burrito did not come with any rice or beans. The pork was very bland, and that was the only filling. The cheese was on top of the burrito with an excessive amount of sauce. Definitely not worth the 9 bucks it cost me
google avatar

Phil Y.

Yelp
Ordered Gails tacos, three in the meal. Food was good. Problem is they cheap out on the basic ingredients - they give you 2 small strips of avocado and enough pico de Gayo for one taco. I had to ask for more Pico de Gayo and got charged $0.50 more for something that should have been included. Get your act together Rubens and instead of 10 Bucks charge 11 and serve the meal right!
google avatar

Kristen Y.

Yelp
Good value, friendly service, fast preparation, and good Mexican food. I had cheese dip with fresh chips, a cheese enchilada (definitely recommended), and a vegetarian tostada. The salsas were great too. I was almost finished before realizing I didn't take any photos.

Yelp
Two of our four adults have eaten at Rubens before, back when it was down the street. We liked it well enough to suggest it to the other two. There was also a six year old boy with us. We arrived there about 12:30 - 1:00 so there was a waiting line which was perfectly fine, we expected that considering our arrival time. We get seated at a small table for 4 with the boy pulled up to the end so we were really smashed together! About 10-15 to get our drinks. 5 more minutes to get chips and salsa. 1 basket partly filled to go around for our table! Well that basket went quick! Another 10 mins to get another "small" basket! (one of our party was extremely hungry lol ) order was taken. Another basket of chips! Waters were refilled! The two that ordered beer wasnt even asked if they wanted another! Our little man was getting restless, momma had to let him use her wi-fi! One of the beer drinkers had to set empty bottles on a dirty table. We had no silverware! One of us turned around to get napkins off the shelf that they have supplies on. It literally took an hour for our food to arrive! Still no silverware! One of us stood up to get silverware! Well, that didnt go over too well! Another 2 minutes for the hostess to get our silverware! No complaints on the food though! Our waitressing and the times we had to wait and the fact that we had to "take care" of ourselves for several things made it a not-so-nice experience!
