Bauhaus Will Soon Open New Capitol Hill Location - Eater Seattle

"Bauhaus, a Seattle coffee mainstay, is planning a new outpost in Capitol Hill at 515 Harvard Ave E, aiming to open by the end of the month. Originally opened in 1993, Bauhaus was part of coffee's Second Wave, emphasizing carefully-roasted beans and cafe community. Its original Capitol Hill location had a used book store feel, known for strong roasts. Financial troubles led to closures in 2015, but a Ballard location reopened in 2016. The new Capitol Hill location will be smaller, modern, serve beer, wine, coffee, and pastries, retaining nostalgic elements like an old Apple computer." - Gabe Guarente

I have lived here several years and love this apartment community. Cameron and Greg are very kind, friendly building caretakers. They are super responsive to any questions or maintenance needs. The units are nice with good sound insulation, and the rooftop view is unbelievable. The coffee shop in the building, Mintish, is also delicious and their staff have been a great addition to the Rubix community! You should live here if you get the chance. The location is unbeatable too.

I have lived here a while and the building/property managers have always been courteous and helpful including Cameron, the current manager. Free laundry which is great because I often don't have change. I have always felt safe living here. Fed Ex packages are delivered to a secure location. Garage parking available so I don't have to shop for street parking. Eventually, I will move to a warmer climate but this has been a good place to live for me.

Living at Rubix has been fantastic. Cameron and Greg have both been quick and very helpful when it came to our occasional questions and rare concerns. The building is clean and well maintained, the rooftop deck is an absolute gem, and the lobby/amenities (not to mention the great coffee place attached to the lobby, Mintish!) were fantastic - I couldn't have asked for a better experience for the area and location.

After so many bad experiences with landlords, I've been very happy here at the Rubix. Cam is the best building manager I've ever had—he's friendly, responsive, and (most importantly) extremely competent at his job. The building and its amenities are also really nice, and I feel very safe here.

Google
Great and lovely experience. I appreciate the people who managing this building. Always on top of things. Cameron, with his beautiful British accent always ready to help. Greg the maintenance manager always quick to respond to any requests. In addition to the service, the rooftop is my favorite. Great open space to BBQ and see the beautiful Seattle.

Google
The property manager has been outstanding. They are professional, responsive, and genuinely care about residents. Any maintenance requests I submitted were handled promptly, and communication has always been clear and respectful. It’s rare to find management that goes above and beyond, but they do exactly that. Overall, this is a great place to live, and the property manager plays a huge role in making it feel like home. Highly recommend.

Google
I have lived in this building for a while. They hire great and very reliable building manager and maintenance. The current building manager - Cameron, and maintenance person - Greg are very dependable and thorough. Cameron has looked into every request I had within 24 hours and replied with a very thorough investigation. They are also very patient, keep calm and really care for the tenants. They would fix things and look into things ASAP and do whatever is needed to unblock issues. Management experiences like these is the biggest reason why one wants to rent vs buy.

Google
service in this building is truly outstanding ! from cleanliness and maintenance to the way management interacts with residents. The building itself is exceptional and offers an incredible view of Downtown Seattle and the Space Needle, which is simply breathtaking. I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved in managing this property, especially the building manager, Cameron, who is an amazing and very kind person.

Yelp
We recently moved into the Rubix, and absolutely love the apartment. As an artist, I appreciate the 12 ft. high ceilings, more room for art. Also at the end of a hall there is room enough for a studio for me. There is also a patio, that I can do art work in the warm weather. The entrance of the building is wide, wonderful and filled with art, as are all the halls on every floor, leading out to an outdoor space and garden. The management is warm and inviting, and very helpful. There is enough space in the kitchen for a table, but we use it for our two computers, still ample room for kitchen work. When we do see the sun, it pours in the windows of the kitchen, bedroom and studio, and the patio. Love the Rubix!

Yelp
You won't find a better place than the rubix! Maddy is also the best manager out there!

Yelp
Love the building, management, and rooftop! I've had no issues with noise or security.

Yelp
Beware of this leasing staff. I applied almost a month ago to be a resident - deposited $400, toured the property virtually, but then ultimately decided not to rent at Rubix. Rubix has since kept my $400 deposit and the staff is not responding to my e-mails. Pinnacle Residential, the parent company (206-215-9700) is also not answering the phone. There is something fishy going on in this building. Think twice before giving Rubix your money.

Yelp
Although the apartment itself was great to live in for 2 years, the leasing staff has been truly awful to deal with. A single email is never enough to warrant a response. I would have to escalate to the point of anger for someone to address my issue. Also the office hours are during a typical 9-5 workday so you likely won't be able to see them in person. At one point our washer broke. I submitted a maintenance request and they "fixed" it one week later. The next time I went to use it the front fell off the machine. Wires were exposed. I asked them to bring us a different washer since this one was unsafe. A week goes by and they told us they ordered a new parts for us. 2 weeks go by. We see the maintenance guy in the hallway and he tells us the office didn't approve the parts so he hasn't placed the order. We escalate again. 2 more weeks go by- the wrong parts come in. I escalate again. At this point it's been 2 months since we've been able to do laundry in our unit. They finally order a new washer for us and try to sell it as this incredible gift they are giving us instead of just fixing what should be fixed when you are renting. Miscommunication between the maintenance team and office were frequent during our time here. When we left, we still hadn't received our deposit after 21 days. We contacted the leasing agent 3 times and were told it was on its way. After the 3rd time, they told us they actually didn't have our address (even though we completed the mail forwarding application) and it was mailed to our Rubix address (I wish I was making this up). They finally delivered it to our new address and we had received less than half of what was promised. When we were moving out, the leasing agent was unavailable (midday during the week so she should have been there) so we left the keys with her second in command. We asked if we needed to walk through the apartment together for a final check but were told it wasn't necessary. I am still waiting to see if the deposit will be resolved 3 months after move out. If they do end up fixing it I will update this review. If you are not constantly keeping check of what is owed or needs to be done, they will ignore you. The building itself is nice enough and a good location, however other buildings will have office staff who look after you.

Yelp
We lived at the Rubix for 3 years. In that time, I think we had 4 different property management companies. This review is just about our experience at the building under the current management, Pinnacle.   The Rubix is a fakenice building. It's super new building with fancy little finishes and details, but you can tell is that shoddy, quick construction. We had issues with noise from upstairs and next-door neighbors through the walls and ceiling. It is an AMAZING location though. We really loved that. And our apartment had two balconies and a Mount Rainier view. Fantastic. Unfortunately, the management is a mess. Leslie, the building manager, was always very friendly, and very apologetic, but here are just some of the issues that we had: 1)     Maintenance. I sent the first email about not having hot water in my shower in August of last year. At first, the response I got said that I should just pick a different time of day to shower. Eventually, maintenance was called to look at the issue, but it took a lot of back and forth for them to figure out the issue. It wasn't solved until February. Based on the number of emails I sent, I'm estimating I took around 40 cold showers before it was fixed. This was the worst maintenance issue by far, but we also had a broken washing machine for a month, and a balcony door that wasn't opening right that we just gave up on getting fixed after multiple unanswered maintenance requests. 2)     General building management. You can just tell that there isn't much care being put into the running of the building. An elevator would stop working for a while and we wouldn't hear anything about why or if it was going to be fixed. They stopped picking up the trash from the trash rooms for like a week and a half at one point with no explanation (see the picture). There were some red solo cups and new years celebration debris strewn around the parking garage that wasn't picked up for about a month. The light above the call box would stop working and they would be slow to replace it, etc. etc. 3)     Package delivery. This was haphazard. Packages would either be delivered outside our door, left in the lobby, or locked away in a package room. One time we had a box of perishable food get locked away. I called the afterhours number, but couldn't get through to anyone. By the time we got the package the next day, the food had been sitting unrefrigerated for at least 24 hours. 4)     Move out. I gave plenty of notice on our move-out day, and requested that we could reserve one of the elevators and have a key to the front-double doors. We did both of these on moving in, and it made everything so much easier. I sent several emails arranging to get the keys, but on the day of our move, no one from management was around and I couldn't reach anyone from the Pinnacle office. Apparently, they got the date of our request mixed-up. We had to haul everything out, waiting for the elevator every time, and using the main, smaller front door. It probably added about an hour to our moving day, and I know was super annoying for all of the other residents trying to get in and out.

Yelp
We moved in right when the building opened and left after a year due to noise issues. We lived on the third floor. Being a wood construction building, all floors above the second floor have a wood ceiling. My dishes rattled when the tenant upstairs walked. We couldn't sleep. I do not know the current status of management, but it changed frequently while we were there. The owner of the building was obviously valuing cost of management over quality. The cold water is metered in each unit, but the hot water is not. Your hot water billing is based on how much cold water you use. Do all your laundry in cold water? Now you're paying more for hot water too! It took me months to find out how utilities were being calculated, which my law the management should have had available.

Yelp
I moved in this past March and have had nothing but the best experience! Maddy has been AMAZING as our leasing agent and has truly gone above and beyond in her role. She is prompt with returning emails, keeps the building looking clean and plans great parties! The building is very dog friendly and I haven't had any noise issues at all. I will absolutely be renewing my lease in a few months.

Yelp
GREAT STAFF. GREAT NEIGHBORS BUT NO SECURITY Place is in order Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday during business hours the place is clean. The maintenance is on top of things. The Office is great AFTER HOURS and especially of WEEKENDS the place becomes a crappy ghetto . HOMELESS sneak in and sleep in the stairs. They root the trash bins and LEAVE A MESS, and pull fire alarms. They break the entrance doors. There is NOT enough security cameras, No security. They come ONLY when you call them. BUT NO ROBBERIES, NO CAR BREAK INS. THE OWNERS: are too cheap to install more security camera and hire full time security

Yelp
Moved here when it just opened last year. I was new to Seattle and didn't really know what I needed. Being a new building it gave pretty good concessions (free month rent + parking free for a year), so I looked past the "urban" 1 bedroom apartment that most people consider a studio apartment. I looked past the lack of air conditioning, and I looked past the really high price for what most deemed a studio apartment. Seattle is getting up there in price, so $1850 in 2015 might seem like a steal to you reading this in 2018, but I don't think it is in 2016 without concessions. Just go on craiglist and type free rent and new buildings going up on Pike/Pine will gladly take you in for the price of this building. The location is good. QFC (Kroger, Ralphs) is basically right out your door. Takes longer to get outside from your 4th floor apartment than it takes to walk from the building to QFC. Restaurants are nearby, nightlife is nearby, and everything else is relatively close if youre on foot and very close if you drive. Bad. Units are small. There's a lot of "one" bedrooms but they're called "urban" because none have windows in the bedroom and only one floorplan has a door for the bedroom--which is a sliding barn door. Hence why most consider this building filled with studios. Management WAS great. When I moved in the Property Manager, Kenny, was as you'd hope. Fun, diligent, and no-nonsense. You had pretty much two other staffers that you knew really well. 10 months in those two were gone. 11 months in Kenny was gone. We were then introduced to a new PM. 13 months in the new PM (Reagan) was gone. I don't know what's happening to the building but I would advice against it. When I first moved in they used ActiveBuilding which is pretty much standard. You can pay rent online, see what's happening in your community, place a work order, even sell your furniture. At 11 months with the new PM came a new system that seemed like dated 90s software. I believe I had to write a check my last month there. Hadn't seen my checkbook in years ;P. A month after moving out I received a call from the 3rd PM asking me when I was going to pay the rent. Kindly told her I moved out. She kindly apologized and said I should be receiving my deposit shortly. The ugly. I expected this by how I heard the owner of the building was but my $300 deposit came back to me in the form of a check to the tune of $18. Anyway, it's late and I'm just going to post this. I'll add pictures when I get around to it. If I don't and you're reading this and feel bummed that I still haven't gotten around to it just know that I apologize and owe you a beer when I get around to that too.

Yelp
We recently moved out of the Rubix and we received an invoice regarding an outstanding balance (related to damages which i disagree with but not worth fighting about) which we immediately paid in full. fast forward two months, we've been reported to a collection agency for non-payment. We know the Rubix has our address since it is where we received the charges, which we paid in full, but we never received anything saying they never got our payment (which we see as cashed). If this were a one off, i'd say a 1 star would be too harsh. However, this is a trend in gross negligence by the rubix. Never responding to repair requests, forgetting our move out date and no reserved elevator, locking perishable packages in the package room while nobody would be there for days to unlock it, not responding to notices about break-ins in the garage, etc. The management (pinnacle) has just been unbelievably bad.

Arielle A.

Yelp
I live in a nearby property, and have the same landlord as Rubix apartments. Cristean has been the best! So accommodating with moving in, and is always there to answer questions or fix any issues that come up! I really appreciate how on top of everything she is! The BEST!

Yelp
I've been at Rubix for almost 2 months now and I love it. I've lived many places as I'm a traveling RN, but the one thing that separates the others from here is the manager, Cristean! She has a warm southern charm that made me fell right at home the minute I walked in the door! She took her time showing my husband and I the property and the home she had available. It was more like talking to a new friend than a business associate. We've stopped by her office several times after moving in with questions about everything from where we should go eat to the closest movie theater and she's always welcomed us and never made us feel like we were a bother! Maint is fantastic! Coming to our distress one night when we forgot our keys! Rubix is perfect for us as we are close to everything and yet not in the heart beat of the city, which is known as Cap Hill! I can highly recommend living here and I actually referred 2 of my new co-workers! Great new building, caring staff, close to everything, light rail, super walking score! Why would you want to live anywhere else?

Alexis K.

Yelp
Who's idea was it to place a rotating metal sculpture outside in a state that constantly rains... The sculpture gets wet and starts to squeak SO loudly if you live anywhere near it you won't be able to hear yourself speak. Apparently only one guy knows how to fix it but he doesn't live here so they have to wait for him to come fix it. You think they would have a key to just turn it off when it starts squeaking! Better yet... Don't pay to have it rotate all day long and make noise. Why can't it just chill there and be quiet? Really ruins it for me. Frustrating to live facing a courtyard that ends up being hassle
