The Ruby Slipper has become such a New Orleans staple that even most out of towners mention it at this point. They have capitalized on our fascination with brunch in New Orleans, and they do it well. The decor looks like a south Louisiana creole grandma from an alternate dimension had a fascination with brunch and a pride for Louisiana.
About a year ago we dined here and did have a super weird experience, but considering I didn't remember to log the experience, and have a card from management for free food, that's all I'll say about that and won't hold it against them, other than theorizing that the Saturday experience versus the Sunday game day or festival day experience could be completely different.
Today, we were seated right away, although tables of three or more seemed to be having a short wait. Our server, Chef, is a hospitality treasure. I got a bacon Bloody Mary, which is infused with bacon and comes garnished with a thick strip of the hangover cure, and a flight of mimosas, all delicious, although the watermelon pomegranate was my favorite. The eggs cochon was fantastic, with a perfect biscuit on a spinach salad, pulled pork on top, and a poached egg on top of that. One of my eggs was overcooked, but I mentioned it and they brought out a replacement that was perfect. My partner had the shrimp and grits, which were delicious, if a little short on shrimp and taso, which explains how they're keeping their prices so competitive on the dish, so you can't really complain, it's a choice. Overall, I'll keep the brunch tradition alive by visiting, So think.
