Yelp
Pretty average independent coffee shop. Nothing wrong with being average. And it's not Dunkin or Starbucks which I refuse to patronize. So I drove 6 miles out of the way. Worth it to keep to my principles.
I got a coffee to go, a spinach/feta croissant, and a truffle. The coffee itself, from Magnolia Roasters in Charlotte NC, was probably good but was made too weak, a serious flaw. I got a pound (3/4 actually - don't get me started) to take home so we'll see how it is when I make it correctly. The croissant was excellent, light and flaky but not so flaky as to seem dry, and the cheese wasn't excessive and gooey so the spinach flavor came through. Rather salty but I'm fine with that.
The interior is nothing special and pretty tight but does have a bit of that comfy feeling that I expect from a coffee shop. The back patio though was very nice, tucked between the brick walls of the neighboring buildings and furnished with umbrella covered tables and hanging plants. And the storefront is very pretty - see my photo.
The refrigerated dessert case was broken so the sign said inquire about them but I didn't. I'm not sure if they serve lunch or breakfast sandwiches.
I had the truffle later. It was champagne/ginger I think. Very good, and larger than most. Firm dark chocolate shell, lots of ginger flavor in the filling and crystals on top. And with a mass-produced candy bar costing over a dollar these days, a good deal at $3.
In the end, my rating comes to the coffee. If they can't serve an excellent cup then I have to dock no matter how good everything else was. And so easy to fix: just brew it stronger!
