The 38 Best Restaurants in New Delhi, India | Eater

"Price Range: $$ A couple of years ago, Rude Chef opened to instant popularity in Delhi’s youthful, restaurant-filled neighborhood of Humayunpur. It’s run by a small, skilled team led by a talented, nonchalant chef who worked in several upscale kitchens across the city before he started his own. The restaurant is casual, and has nicely plated but unpretentious food, including global hits like fried calamari, fish tacos, and thai curries. Get the rice wine, a fermented beverage drunk across India’s Northeastern states and Indigenous communities, served here luxuriously pink in trademark goblets. Starters, as is the general rule in Delhi restaurants, are better than mains, especially the som tam salad, the pulled buffalo meat salad, and the birria wraps filled with tender, spiced meat and ordered in succession by every table in the restaurant. Know before you go: There is almost no vegetarian food here, save one menu listing of steamed edamame." - Sharanya Deepak

The food quality, design of dishes, and taste are next level… way beyond the ordinary… and beyond most 5 Star hotel restaurants. I travel all over the world and the last two times I had food so well prepared was in Lebanon in 2021 and South Africa in 2014. The ingredients are carefully selected and although they may not be perfect the way the chef has managed these into a well designed dish with excellently balanced flavours is impressive. Don’t be deceived by the small menu and the cafe like ambience. This kitchen is punching way beyond its dining room’s appearance. Nice service, pricey for the type of venue but well worth the quality of food. I would much rather sacrifice a fancy or trendy ambience for a far superior food preparation. Over several meals i tried and enjoyed very much the trout, the buff steak and the Belgium Pork Belly. The papya salad was the best I have had outside of Thailand. The homemade black rice kumbucha is delicious and punchy!

This place is absolutely fantastic, great food, small menu and great ambiance. It is truly a hidden gem in Humayunpur and the service is friendly and the food appears very quickly to your table. I have tried their buff skewers and Rude chef prawn curry last time which were good , this time I had a tenderloin salad which was superlative, I did also try the raw papaya salad but it was not as spicy as the original thai one.

Probably the best seafood place to eat and north eastern food. Absolutely love it, not fully authentic but still the taste is very good. Their rice beer is light but nice. Been here 2 times and definitely will come again when I travel.

Rude Chef was on my list for a while and I finally got to try the food here. It is located on the 1st floor and there is no lift only stairs. The ambiance is quaint and minimal and staff is courteous and polite. For the appetizers we got the crispy calamari and the chicken kaarage. The calamari was well cooked and well seasoned. It was served with a mayo and jalapeno dip which went well with the dish. I just feel the quantity was slightly less for the price. The chicken was equally tasty as well and it was served in a spicy basil sauce which was good. For the mains we had the chicken soba noodles in a spicy black bean sauce. The noodles were well cooked and the sauce was actually spicy which I loved. The portion could have been better. Missed trying the rice wine though. Overall the food seems good but prices are slightly higher than the other restaurants around. Also a lot of the menu comprises of seafood with just a few items in chicken.

Where to start? The food was exceptional, the wine was superb, and the hosts were delightful. The Rude Chef left an impression—amazing in their own way! The flavors were incredibly fresh, the portions generous, and it was all truly value for money. I’d definitely love to visit again.

the seating at the first floor is better than the rooftop as it feels more homely and filled with the goodness that is the seafood aroma. We had the calamari, prawn curry and minced chicken paired with their in-house rice wine. The food was impeccable, unbelievably fresh and the wine complemented it perfectly. The flavours of the prawn curry are a must try! The minced chicken was packed with flavour but fell a bit dry, which isn't anyone's fault as the dish calls for it, they can definitely add a few more leafs of lettuce to bypass this. The homemade mint sauce provided with the calamari is amazing. Will visit again to try the other dishes, this place is that good. They know what they are doing, a must try for seafood lovers stuck in the city.

Amazing food, Cosy space, well lit. Good for a gathering of 2 to 6 max. Limited menu options, but all good and reasonably priced. You can try amazing rice wine here. Must visit if you love Thai and sea food.

Would really recommend everyone to try this place once for sure. I usually am strict with the r as timg but I'd honestly give 4.5. since they were really good I'd round up to the higher side. We had crispy prawns, crispy calamari, Birria wrap and the famous rice wine. The rice wine was really amazing. Mild and goes really well with the starters they serve. We got extra wine packed as well and they courteously gave us in a bottle. Really humble and polite staff. Crispy prawns is also a must try along with the rice wine. Whatever happens have it. Even if you are on borrowed time :D
