The Saddest Houston Restaurant Closings to Know Right Now, June 2025 | Eater Houston

"A Westchase German restaurant that first opened in 1976 closed in May after nearly 50 years; the original owner retired and sold the business a few years ago, and the subsequent owner sought to preserve the operation—keeping staff and much of the restaurant intact—out of a sense of responsibility to loyal workers." - Brittany Britto Garley

This place is fantastic. The food has great portions and is reasonably priced, service (Especially Greta) was so sweet, attentive, & quick, and all the food tasted authentic from my time in Germany! Highly recommend if you're in the area. Try the sampler plates for a good variety & massive portion!

I've never eaten at a German restaurant before so I was excited to try out Rudi Lechner's today and they did not disappoint! Our waitress brought out two types of bread to pair with two different butters and honestly the darker dessert bread didn't need the butter, it was warm and delicious all on its own! I ordered the chicken schnitzel with a side of red cabbage and Austrian potatoes. Everything was seasoned to perfection but I added the gravy on all of it anyway because I'm a gravy girl. My husband was actually dipping his fries in my gravy and I tried one, absolutely delicious! The fries were perfectly crispy and paired well with the gravy. His burger was really good too! Our waitress was extremely attentive and we've already decided we'll have to visit again but on a Wednesday night when they've got live music.

What an amazing German restaurant! Took the family here and we had so much fun! Tiffany was our main server and she was great! The food was really really good! I highly recommend the Jalapeño Schnitzel. Also, the potato latkes are great! Oh, the Hungarian Goulash is superb…it was all great! There’s a good beer menu and the food menu is large. We went on a Sat for lunch and there was no wait. We will be back for sure!

Google
The place is absolutely gorgeous and very familiar, we went with a reservation and it was really packed. Friday there's live music which is even better. The attention was amazing and the food even better. I personally started with the German coffee with brandy, good Lord is exquisite, I had the cabbage rolls and they are really good. I love the fact that you can't tell from the outside how warm and welcoming it is when you get inside. 100% recommended and we definitely gonna come back. Ohh for Oktoberfest definitely the beer 🍺 is AMAZING!!!

Google
We went there on Wednesday night. They have live music and buffet on Wednesday night. We have fun there. The food reminds me when the time I traveled in Germany and Austria. I didn’t order other items, but I saw people ordering different dishes and the portion was big. I saw people were there having fun and drinking beer. It’s such a wonderful place to have dinner and have a drink. I love the apple pie there. Recommend for enjoying a night there.

The overall experience was okay for us. Server was very nice, but forgot stuff. Literally didn't eat appetizers because main came before it. The music can be very loud here so be cautious. I had to wear my earbuds to limit the sound. I understand it's for entertainment, but can be very annoying (especially the hardcore clapping after section played). As for food, was nice but seemed to be lacking seasoning. So polite employees, okay service, okay food and below par environment for eating. More of a bar.

My dining our club FEAST visited a few weeks ago on a Saturday. The service was very friendly and out server was great about explaining the dishes. I personally am not a fan of German food but everyone else really loved what they had for dinner. I personally really liked the zuchinni bread they serve to the table. There was live music and that was a lot of fun. If you like schnitzel and saurkraut and fun music, give a try!

I have fond memories of Rudi Lechner's. I went there almost weekly when I first moved to Houston in 1991. My office was just down the street. When we saw they offered a buffet one night a week, I was excited to return. . 30 years later, the magic was gone. The excellent salad bar that I remembered with magical sweet rye croutons is now merely serviceable as a side to the buffet. . Speaking of which, the buffet was okay. The sauerkraut and cabbage rolls were the highlight. The schnitzel was there, a sad comparison to what I remembered and a mere echo of the schnitzel I love from a dang food truck. I mean..! . The original live music act was a no show, but the replacement artist really was fantastic. . We saw many guests greeting each other, so there is clearly a community of loyal customers that love the place and each other. That speaks to a quality that we didn't witness. Perhaps the buffet night isn't the proper choice to see the best of Rudi Lechner's. . It's been thirty years since I last visited. It will likely be 30 more before I visit again.

Yelp
So fun! I remember passing by this place since I was in middle school... And I finally gave it a try at 46 years old lol!! Do not wait as long as I did because it is a cozy German find for sure right off of Westheimer. Lots of seating and even live music after 6 PM...choose inside or outside seating. Staff is friendly and attentive and they have been working here for years. Be adventurous on the menu! I was leaning more towards the different sausages and breaded chicken known as "schnitzels". The sauces are delicious as well! I'm going to come back for Oktoberfest for sure because the beer choices are quite the variety!
google avatar

Yelp
Not really surprised Rudi's closed. The food quality had been diminishing since the new ownership. Other than the sausage the meat entrees and buffet were usually on the dry side. Sauerkraut and red cabbage so so. The waitstaff were always friendly and never felt rushed. Enjoyed the entertainment and the bier! Chronicle article mentioned they may remodel and reopen. Hopefully as a true German restaurant. To the owner, have you ever thought of moving Rudi's to a new location? Say Katy or Cypress areas. We could use a GOOD German restaurant out this way!

Yelp
The atmosphere was nice and a new experience. The entertainment was a man playing an accordion and yodeling. Was an experience to see. The service was attentive and also entertaining. The salad bar was a nice little touch. While I have never experienced German food, the chicken schnitzels I what I ordered. Everything was cooked perfectly but in my opinion had no seasoning or flavor but I understand the history behind the food so I can respect it. Other people in our group orders other dishes And comments were the same about flavor with their dishes. I just threw some hot sauce on the chicken and was good to go. Did not enjoy the mushroom sauce. Overall was a great experience. Very family friendly as well.

Yelp
Having visited Germany recently I was still on a high from all the great food and beer I just had to find something that resembled around Houston! I was actually surprised to find Rudi Lechner's! When I called into make a reservation and the nice German-accent hostess was very nice and accommodating. Upon arrival, our table was ready and everyone again was just really really nice and attentive. Customer service was top notch. We went during lunch so it was quiet, but I hear they do get busier at night for happy hour and dinner. I was able to pre-order the pork shank prior to arrival so I wouldn't wait the full hour to cook. We also ordered a sausage appetizer and pretzel. All were great! I was very impressed. Now I can't compare it exactly to Germany itself, but it was good for German food in Houston. Top notch service, clean restaurant. If you want to give German food a try in Houston , this is the place to go.

Yelp
If you want to try out this place, make sure it's on a Wednesday night when they have their Oktoberfest buffet. They have a full salad bar plus German classic dishes like schnitzel, goulash, sauerkraut, and a half dozen more things that I couldn't even bother figuring out the names of, but literally every item was delicious. I volunteer with a group that has made a trip to Rudi Lechner's a December tradition-- a Christmas party of sorts. We all order from the buffet, sitting by the stage where a gentleman is playing on an accordion and singing. Given the season, he traded off beautifully between Christmas songs and more traditional German songs, and even switched from English to German on a few of the Christmas songs. Of course, they have an impressive selection of German and other European beers. The ones on draft can be ordered in various sizes, including a stein that I'm pretty sure is roughly a half gallon in volume. Of course, there's always a couple of people in our group who happily partake of that massive glass. The only knock on this place is that they need to get their website updated and their hostesses trained on the menu. We saw a price on the website which included dessert, and according to the hostess included beverages as well. When we arrived, we found out that 1) the prices was about $4 higher than the website, 2) beverages were not included, and 3) the apple strupfel was no longer included in the buffet. Thankfully, our amazing waiter spoke to the manager and got things sorted out for us, getting some dessert included in the buffet since we were repeat customers.

Yelp
Rudi Lechner's has been here my whole life and despite coming a couple times I've never experienced the dinner buffet. Coming here for the dinner buffet is both way cheaper and a better deal that coming for lunch or dinner. I got the Hefe Weizen to drink and it was smooth, rich, and easy to down. Bob Suttie was the gentleman playing live music and he was a blast. The stand outs from the buffet were chicken and schnitzel. I wish there was a dessert at the end. Cons were the sizing of the portions (not all the same), no directions (it our party's first time there and our waiter didn't tell us where the buffet was located (back of the restaurant) or how to do it (we followed everyone else)), and we were pretty much ignored until it was time for the check. I would definitely come back though despite the minor inconveniences now that I know how to navigate the buffet.

Yelp
This place is a ghost of its previous self. They are certainly relying on the goodwill and history from days gone by. I haven't been here in at least a dozen years and won't be back unless someone who can takeover and has a heart for authentic German cuisine. I called ahead of the reservation to order the Pork Shank and they said they were out. Off to a less than stellar start. The Spatzle was a weird, horribly bland tasting, odd texture that looked as orange as a pumpkin. It came out cold, like they boiled it and forgot to complete the recipe. Macaroni from a box would be like caviar compared to this concoction. The Reuben sandwich came out ok but overkill on the dressing. Oddly enough, the dish came out with lettuce, onion, and sliced tomato/pickles as an add on. The Jager schnitzel was tough and chewy. They didn't serve the mushroom sauce on the side and chose to serve it drowned in it. No doubt to hide the imperfections. The patty was probably a reheated instead of cooked fresh. Ordered some beets but a few of the draft options were unavailable. How can you be out of 50% of your German beer selections? The Bratwurst was hardly anything more than you can get from a package and the sauerkraut was no different. If you want real German cuisine, walk yourself somewhere else. If you are good with no better than average food go on and drink a few more beers to help you drink it down.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night for a guys night out. Wasn't sure what to expect as the invite text said "let's have German buffet tonight". If you know me, my nickname is "Gravity" because I'm always down. First off parking is a little tricky. Make sure to pay attention to the signs as some areas do say you will be towed. There's a large parking lot around the corner of the restaurant. Walking in I wasn't sure what I had agreed to. The hostess was dressed in a Dirndl (I googled it). We were asked if we had a reservation which we didn't but we were taken straight to our table. We asked to be seated next to the stage as there was an old man signing while playing the accordion. Once seated we took a minute to take it all in. The old wooden furniture, the many German flags hanging from the ceiling and let's not forget the painting of German conquerors. We then headed to the back of the restaurant where the buffet set up. There is also a regular menu available but that's not what we went for. First you pass thru the salad bar which looked fresh and what you would expect a salad bar to be. Then you see the main dishes along with two staff members there to explain what everything is and to serve you. I can not remember what the names were for all the dishes. The pork lion was tasty but dry. The stuffed cabbage was really good. I didn't think I would like it by its appearance but I wanted seconds. Overall it was a great experience and something I would do again.

Yelp
If it's one thing I like, it's a good surprise. HOFC was this a treat. The Jando had been showing great praise for this spot for a hot minute, and I was quite suspicious. The H is known for many things, but I didn't know what I was getting into taking him up on this one. Let me tell you about it... The Parking - The strip side parking is limited, and was full. Don't park where there are signs as they will tow. There's a giant lot in the back that's open for erryone. That's where I ended up after surveying the lot. The Facility - Walking in, it's cozy and home-like. Old wood furniture and decor. Something straight out of a book or movie. Small spaces, even the bar is a tight knit spot for those looking for a chug. The tables are just wide enough for plates on both sides, but you're still close enough to have a conversation and be heard above the rest of the joint. Or the fella in stage. The Fella On Stage - This guy was decked out in the absolute finest of lederhosen. He has both the according, and also the ginormous horn ( see pics). He was signing carols & classics, and he sang in English, German, and Spanish. This man was a SHOW! We couldn't have picked a better night if we tried. Fantastic experience from him! The food - We came on a Wednesday specifically for AYCE. They do have a menu as well, but we came with a purpose. There is a center seating area, surrounded by the walkway that does a full circle. They also have seats and tables and booths. They set their buffet up on tables, and you walk around the joint. Fill your plates and back to your seat for a full circle. There's a couple bread choices, the butter is fantastic. They have a good salad table setup. Then you go through the goods, Veggies, pastas, meats. it was GREAT. We three, Jando, Lupe M. and myself put away two plates each, and a dessert. The dessert was just aight. I was there for the main event, and was not disappointed. They do have a bar, but we didn't drink, just food, fantastic entertainment, and even better company. It was a time. I will be back. Thinking of a UYE.. Highly recommend. I'm thrilled for this to be my last review of this era. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yelp
I had heard of Rudy Lechner's for being an old school hub for German fare but it wasn't until I learned of their Wednesday dinner buffet that I decided to come check it out. European food has been missing from my diet as of late (#1), so this was a welcome treat. The vibe is a mix of old world Bavarian with a colorful German Oktoberfest themed cutouts with this intimate, yet group friendly environment. It gets more interesting with non-German speaking, lederhosen-wearing staff and an older gentleman blasting away at the accordion for some fun live music. There is a separate entrance for the adjacent bar and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The buffet is small but mighty. There's a limited selection of hot foods with an adjacent salad bar and desserts lined up along the counter wall. For the hot foods there is no self-service as the staff is there to help serve and prevent any food waste. The items that stood out for me was the sauerkraut + red cabbage, pork schnitzel, goulash with pasta, stuffed cabbage, and mushroom cream soaked meatballs. The green beans, potatoes, and mix of various room temperature wursts didn't impress as much. The mustard for the latter was clutch for an added zing flavor wise. There are also a number of beers on tap, and many of which are exclusive to German brands. They had a very good hefeweizen and also serve cocktails as well. The bar side seems more lowkey than the dining room and is equipped with a couple of TVs with bar seating and lounge seats. From the bar to the outdoor seating, the place is clearly large enough to warrant a changeup within every area of the restaurant The bottom line is there aren't enough German places in Houston. I appreciate Rudi Lechner's for staying the course and even if the food doesn't hit the same way as the motherland, I'll still continue to patronize them and look forward to trying more things in the future. ___________ (#1) Thanks, Houston dining scene.

Yelp
It had been almost 3 years since I went here and really missed it. I always order my favorites here being the Hungarian Goulash and Chicken Schnitzel (once in awhile veal too since that's the authentic version). Last Tuesday night, I ordered the Goulash with spaetzel and red cabbage for dine-in and got a takeout of the Chicken Schnitzel with mashed potatoes n red cabbage. The beef chunks in the goulash were so tasty, fatty and meaty with a hearty taste in a really good brownish sauce. The meat was also really soft and practically melt in mouth tender. The spaetzle was like a simple, buttery macaroni and just great along with the sweet n sour, juicy cabbage holding a little cinnamon in profile too. I am not big on fried chicken and prefer it barbecued, baked and roasted. However, one major exception is chicken schnitzel being my favorite fried chicken of all as I have said for many years. Maybe bc I am part German myself, who knows. The meat was moist and very well-seasoned. You could taste some rosemary in it, which was great. The crust was crispy, but definitely not too crispy or thick to where u don't taste the chicken. It had a great taste and texture all the way through. The mashed potatoes were creamy, seasoned and fresh. The brown gravy n crispy onions were a plus and the red cabbage as already mentioned were obviously great n refreshing. I hope to save room for the carrot cake or black forest cake next time. I remember both being very good in 2017 or 2018 when I had them here, so hopefully they didn't change. Gotta love that addictive zucchini bread here, which tastes like a spiced cake or sweeter soda bread. It's almost like a dessert imo. My server was very efficient and friendly on this visit.

Yelp
Don't bother coming. It's closed and they didn't advertise this anywhere else but their front door. Not on google or yelp, nothing. THEY DID NOT EVEN ADVERTISE THIS ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE. It will be closed for months. All these people showing up including ourselves wasted our time. I seem to be the only person sharing that they are closed when they couldn't even do it themselves. This is scummy.
google avatar

Liza K.

Yelp
The service is great. There was a discrepancy between the menu and the printout of the bill, and they pretty much fixed it. I don't know if this is a Christmas-only event, but someone is playing the accordion and singing Christmas songs in German. I find it charming. They have a video montage on one of the TVs, and what I noticed is that the older gentleman is featured, which is why I'm not positive that he's only there seasonally. We went to try the buffet dinner instead of the menu, and I think we got a good deal for not being well-versed in German food and letting us taste the most German food according to our comfort level. I pretty much had my favorites including the sausage and some other German dish I can't even begin to pronounce or spell, it's like a beef dish in brown gravy. They do have a salad bar, and because it is really simple, it was crazy good. People in our group ordering off the menu were extremely happy, and the alcohol drinkers were happy with their drinks as if they were getting a large beer in an oversized pint glass that looked comical. They had every hot tea you could think of, which is what I ordered on that cold night. I don't know if I'm a fan of German food, but I did enjoy my meal, the ambiance, and, most of all, the service was on point. If you're going to explore German food, this is the best place to start.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of German food, and unfortunately, Houston doesn't have that many German restaurants. Fortunately, this one is excellent! My wife and I took my parents there for lunch, and we ordered several things to share: the Heritage Platter, kaesespaetzle, and Hungarian goulash. Also, a dunkel and a black lager. The wait staff were quite pleasant and attentive, the food arrived quickly, and the restaurant has an Oktoberfest decor. Definitely my favorite German restaurant in the Houston area!

Shelia W.

Yelp
Had reservations for 20 people on May 16, 2025 for a lunch meeting. The group has been meeting there for almost 20 years. I called and confirmed, we all showed up and the front door was locked up with a chain. It would have been nice if someone had contacted me that they were going to be closed. Around the corner, a Mexican Restaurant took us all in and it saved our meeting. Very disappointed in Rudis and the way they are doing or not doing business.

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because I've had German food I've enjoyed more, but this was a solid experience. --- --- --- My brother and his kids just came from an outing for the kiddos and wanted to grab an early dinner before going our separate ways. I've had Rudi Lechner's bookmarked for a while now, so I was excited to finally try it. We started off with Currywurst for an appetizer, and then each got a Schnitzel with two sides. Me: Jager Schnitzel + spaetzle and Austrian Potatoes. My brother: Beer Schnitzel with cabbage and mashed potatoes. Between all 7 of those items, I'd rate them all between 3 and 4 stars each. Everything seemed to have just a tick of a different flavor to it than what I'm accustomed to. My brother has not had really any German restaurant experience, and he was really impressed.

Jay R.

Yelp
They were actually out of almost all their menu items when we tried to dine there on a Saturday night and tried to bring us our second round of drinks after they told us they couldn't serve us.
google avatar

Chuck H.

Yelp
Food was disappointing, though I will give them another chance. Music was great! Service was OK. Ambiance was good, but not great. I've had much better German food elsewhere.

P R C.

Yelp
Service was exceptional and the food was excellent. Pork schnitzel, red cabbage and Austrian potatoes were delicious. Cannot wait to return.
google avatar

Moriah H.

Yelp
I'm going to have to knock my rating down a bit. Tonight for the first time we were served stale French onions on our mashed potatoes. We will be back since we Rudis for life (#polka Fridays) but it's also not perfect since that schnitzel plate was like $16+. Luckily, once food gets soggy with gravy the stale-ness matters less and my fiancé and I still had a great date night together. I don't think there's another restaurant that does Friday night music with brews better. They don't hate us if we linger but service is attentive.
google avatar

Celeste R.

Yelp
We went to Rudy Lecter's tonight on a Saturday and found out that they only have a buffet. After looking at it, everything looked like it was small servings and just did not look appetizing. I ordered an appetizer plate and it was sausages. They took the cut up sausages right off of the buffet, put it on sauerkraut and served it to me very Overdone. They were out of the first three beers. My husband tried to order and he had Currywurst and it was served. Cut up almost in a stew sauce not the way you find curry. Worse in most places. I understand this under new ownership. I will not go back, but you might want to give it a try in a couple of weeks. They may have their act together, I'll let you decide
google avatar

Yelp
I have to start with I'm not the biggest fan of German food. I've now visited here a couple of times. The decor feels a bit homey, a bit outdated even? Either way, a bit of a makeover is overdue, though I suppose the decor is enjoyed by the regular clientele... mostly older folks and a few families. As for the food, it's a bit overpriced for what you get. Taste was fine. The complimentary fresh zucchini and sourdough breads were tasty at least?

Ray E.

Yelp
Surly staff in bar, no smiles, no eye contact,, no welcoming vibes, and very slow to take our order, although only one other table was occupied. Slow and surly waiter for dinner, same waiter who apparently was trying to serve entire restaurant and a private party. NO manager apparent. Very surprising to have this experience in Houston's highly competitive food scene. Give food a 3.5...

Yelp
UPDATE: Located him alive and well and still cooking at the base of the Alps in Le Sauze, France 2023!!

Yelp
I'm not one to leave a bad review unless well earned, especially a one star review, but this place deserves zero stars after what we witnessed today. For lunch today, both of our plates of sausages were served cold in the middle. We notified the server who took the food plates to the back to fix it, only to return with our previously consumed food reheated. The waiter stated he didn't remember who's plate was who's and placed the previously eaten food back in front of us without being able to confirm who's plate was which. I wouldn't eat it, and instead opted to give my food to my coworker who was also bothered by the situation but still ate his food. I will never return to this establishment, that was disgusting and I reported this to the health department for this incident. Reheating previously consumed food on the same surface as fresh food is repulsive. Their quality was also poor with everything being pre-made including the pre-packaged fried potatoes (no longer homemade german potatoes), pre-packaged frozen sausages (served cold in the middle) and pre-packaged kraut (mushy). Don't waste your time with this place unless you like intestinal discomfort, they've really slipped in their quality and made some extremely questionable kitchen decisions with re-serving previously eaten food.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful food and the music fabulous! Cannot wait to go back again. The authentic German music was a treat and the staff outstanding!

Yelp
A German restaurant in Houston - go figure! And a good one at that. This is a Houston staple. Great bread to begin with. Good pricing on German beers. Salad bar was great. I had the chicken snitzel, which was ok. The sauerkraut was ok, the Austrian potatoes were the best I've ever had. After dinner coffee was hot, plentiful and the service was impeccable. The decor was a little run down hit I will eat here more often.

Yelp
I'm probably the wurst person to review a German restaurant. Most German food I hate. "Why?" You may ask. I had too much as a kid and was burned out on it as a kid. My parents were not German, but for whatever reason, loved German food. I hate sauerkraut and red cabbage. Bratwurst and knockwurst I don't care for. Of course, hamburgers and hotdogs are of German origin (I think). Let's go ahead and say they are. And, who doesn't like burgers and dogs? They're awesome. That puts German food near the top. Let's begin the the beers. Warsteiner is a fantastic lager. Weinstephaner lager is also an excellent brew. St Pauli Girl was also delicious. Paulaner was also quite good. Better stop there. I have to drive home. Beers were nice and cold. Served in proper chilled glasses. Chicken wiener schnitzel with mixed veggies was delicious and of large portion. Also of note, pretzel with sweet mustard was a good start. Kaesespaetzle was very similar to mac 'n cheese. Can't go wrong with that. They also make a good zucchini bread. Everything was wonderful. Great service. Nice atmosphere. I'll be going back soon.

Yelp
I decided to take a very good friend to this restaurant because I haven't been there I over 4 years and I remember the food was amazing. Well a lot has changed since then..for the worst...this place needs to be shut down PERIOD. It needs to be renovated because there were holes in the floor and it appears to have tape covering it. It looks old and dusty and dirty and dark in the restaurant. Cracks in the walls and a roach was crawling up the wall.. waitress came and kill it on site...just nasty.. I can't imagine what was going on in the kitchen..The greeter/lady was apologizing profusely about the roaches..my friend and I left and I never go back...

Lee N.

Yelp
We went for Wednesday night buffet, think the food would be better when ordering off the menu. Not bad but felt like it was just buffet food. Server was very nice and attentive

Yelp
There are not very many German places around and I wanted to try this one and was hoping for the best. Overall, I was not disappointed. I had the combination meal and everything was very good. There was a lot of food and I did not eat it all. I would recommend it and am looking forward to going back. I also loved the German look and feel. It helps to make it feel like the real thing.

Yelp
Great neighborhood place. Good service Makes you feel welcome. Reliably good food. Fun to go during Oktoberfest

Yelp
Had an Amazing time with family and friends over the weekend! The food was great, especially the Jaeger Schnitzel, my favorite! Service was quick and the music was entertaining. Rudi's has been around a while, and it makes sense.

Yelp
This is a restaurant that I have eaten at since 1976 and ever since Rudy sold it the food has gone downhill they have taken some of their best dishes off the menu and what they kept was absolutely flavorless, I have been recommending this restaurant to people for over 40 years and I hate to say it but I just had my last meal there, I can't believe how they have destroyed this once amazing restaurant

Yelp
I recently had a brunch here with my family after my last visit over 10 years ago. The place looked empty as we arrived as first table. As I walked in the vibe seemed the same dark and rustic. We ordered a dish for each one of us. I opted for a sausage combination plate. My mom got a salmon omelette. I forgot what my wife order.LOL. My sausage plate was alright. The sausages were great. I just wished that it came with their Austrian Patties besides the offering of sauerkraut. My mom omelet was good and it came with potato Patties. The omelette may be under-seasoned a little bit. Besides the food, everything else was fine. We feel the place was clean with good ambiance. The service was good. Overall I had a 3-star experience at Rudi Lechner's

Yelp
Great Octoberfest. On Wednesday evening at the start of this fest, at Rudy's, they tap the keg. First it is carried in and paraded around. Then it gets ceremonial tapped with the live music. This band is wonderful, the food is wonderful, and the ambiance is wonderful! Best if all, after the keg is tapped, everyone gets to stand in line and get a free cup,of German beer!

Yelp
Oktoberfest is the best time of the year to visit this famous German restaurant. On Wednesday during the Oktoberfest, a great buffet is served with eight meats and many sides. The buffet is only $16.95 and includes: - Cabbage Rolls - Pork Weiner Schnitzel - Various sausages - Pork Loin - Goulash - Beef Stroganoff - Curry Chicken - Sauerbraten - plus do many delish sides The buffet is a bargain at only $16.95, and it's not a typical buffet where the food sits a while. It is put out hot and fresh. But, aside from the buffet special, if ordering from the menu, it is pricey. A great special this night, .3L of Paulaner beer for only $4.00, or a nice flight of three beers on special. We are ready to return next October, actually earlier.

Yelp
I was soo excited to move near a german food restaurant! We were immediately greeted with a sweet lady with a thick german accent and that made my heart happy I shared the heritage plate with a co worker. Pork loin was super moist, i loved the red cabbage and sauerkraut. My favorite on the plate was the cabbage rolls and weiner schnitzel. Ambiance and service was great and so was the music.

Yelp
I love this place! It's the most authentic German experience I've been to in Houston or in any area really for the last ten years. The Brauhaus in Chicago closed, but this place suits me well! Great band on some nights too! Make sure to say his to Mrs. Lechner, she is the best!

Yelp
Came here on a recent trip to Houston. We wanted to try something a bit different and were not disappointed. Got the goulash and beer. The meal came with two types of bread and two types of flavored butter. The service was good and food was authentic and delicious. Would come again to try the schnitzel or some sausage next time.

Yelp
The food is never warm enough and soggy, oily, the service is far from being kind. If you have never eaten a proper Wiener schnitzel, don't try it here.

Yelp
Will definitely be back! The food is amazing and the beer is good. I got the beer flight and really enjoyed it. The serving per beer was also more than I expected. We also loved the vibe of the place, and there was a man playing live music. We greatly enjoyed it!

Yelp
It's been quite a few years since our last visit, glad my wife thought of it today. She enjoyed most of her chicken schnitzel with a mound of mashed taters and red cabbage.....that's right, I helped her....that's my job, I liked my Hungarian goulash with noodles and tasty red cabbage kraut. The beef was tasty but slightly dry...not my favorite. The service provided by Tiffany was even better than the food. I don't need the complimentary bread, two kinds, one of which is their zucchini bread, with two types of spreads, one sweet, one with chives, I didn't need but the Zucchini disappeared along with a slice of the other kind.

Yelp
I had a long day and ended up ordering this into my hotel. I tried the sampler because I couldn't make up my mind. Every bite I took was better than the last. I highly recommend this place. Next time I will have to make a trip to their location.

Yelp
It was actually ok food. Ambience is cool and food is alittle better than average. The meat sampler appetizer tasted like microwave sausages. The pork schnitzel was good however fries were not fully cooked and extremely greasy. The Australian potatoes need to be boiled alittle bit longer. Not soft at all. I'm giving 3 star because the service was very good. Our waiter gentleman - I asked what he recommended and he said no I don't recommend. I was confused. He said I can tell you what is good. So I said great I'd love your recommendation - no recommendation he said. I was confused. The lady who took the food was amazing! Loved her but our waiter (older Hispanic gentleman ).

Yelp
We had a lunch there today. We both had the Chicken schnitzel with two sides and the food was wonderful. Every thing tasted so good. The red cabbage was the best and the Austrian potatoes were delicious. Tracy was our server and she was so good to us. She told us to take our time and enjoy our visit. Our drink glasses were never empty and she checked on us several times to make sure everything was as expected. We will be back

Yelp
Made reservations and told them it was my birthday and no one said happy birthday or did anything special. I wasnt expecting anything for free, but i think think someone could have said happy birthday or stuck a candle in the cake i ordered. If you want a special or festive night dont come here. i miss the original owner Rudi. I'm not sure who the gm/owner is , but i chose to celebrate here and was let down. I will find a new happy place.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place since I got to Houston and finally made it. Got the buffet. The food was good not great but it was buffet so I'm sure their entrees are alot better. The workers are awesome and the beer is delicious. Thought the sausages would be homemade like the spot in california though. Overall good experience
