150 Years of Eating and Drinking in Deep Ellum | Eater Dallas

"A multigenerational, family-run meat market and sausage operation with deep roots in the neighborhood; founded by the current vice president's grandfather, the business has been a longstanding local institution that reflects the area's history of locally owned commerce. Longtime staffers see Deep Ellum's bohemian past in the neighborhood's continued mix of shopping and live music, and the market is positioned as part of that enduring local fabric." - Alex Gonzalez

Google
The butchers here are true experts. I asked for a specific cut for a stew and they prepared it perfectly. The quality of their meat is consistently excellent. You can really taste the difference.

Richard Oliver S.

Google
Amazing piece of history. We purchased some Beef Bologna, Rye Bread and Beef Sausage. So far had the bologna and rye bread and it was delicious. The staff was super friendly. The butcher block tables were beautiful and you can see the 100+ years of use.

Google
I'm going to highly recommend this meat market to everyone I know. Friendly and helpful from the moment you walk in. Clean facility with an abundance of meats to choose from.

Mitch S.

Google
Tried their summer sausage, and some of the cheeses they were selling. Great collection of meats, the aged beef, and the tomahawks look amazing.

Lanny S.

Google
Down home meat market with friendly service. A family owned market. Dry aged prime beef ready for the oven, grill or smoker. Cutting tables 85 years old with one over 120 years old, all still in use.

Roderick B.

Google
Nice place for buying fresh cuts of meat. Summer sausage was good and staff is very friendly.

jonathan R.

Google
Love this place. The guys that work there aren't the friendliest but the quality of their beef makes up for that ten times over. I just got my beef for valentine's day and it was even better than the first time I visited them almost 5 years ago. Will be going back for sure.

bryan H.

Google
Oh my god, it was pricey, but worth every penny. The best steak I ever put in my mouth. The guy at the counter was great as well. He told my wife, “when you try our chorizo you will be back.” He was right, we will definitely be going back for more. So tender, so flavorful. I NEEDED THIS!!!!

Yelp
Rudolph's Meat Market is purdy good! Amazing sausages and fresh cuts with great flavor. A bit pricey, but worth every bite--friendly staff and definitely coming back.

Yelp
Venturing through the neighborhood can be challenging. But this place never fails. It was a beautiful walk over for some bacon

Yelp
I've only been to Rudolph's a few times over the years and I regret that. Rudolph's is a true Dallas treasure harkening back to earlier, simpler times. No frills.. Ambience much as it probably was "back in the day." Just a well stocked meat counter and personal service. Tony, the butcher, was helpful, informative, and patient. I was tempted by beautiful rib eyes and strip steaks, ground beef and pork, various sausage and what I think were dramatic tomahawk steaks. However I settled on a fantastic rib eye, hot links, kielbasa, and wieners. Everything lived up to my expectations. There is on street parking and a lot next door. While it is marked as a pay lot, I'm not sure that applies to customers. Best to check. Rudolph's is open Tuesday through Saturday. Well worth a daytime trip to Deep Ellum.
google avatar

Peaches L.

Yelp
Bad customer service and over priced meats. The guy at the counter ignored me until I said something to him. However, few people came in after I arrived and were greeted immediately
google avatar

Johnathon B.

Yelp
Meat heaven. Check out the freezer for some fun cuts and other items. Price is comparable to nicer grocers, but the quality and dry aging are on point. You get a good value here with real meat cutters and butchers.

Bertha M.

Yelp
They have the best breakfast sausage in the DFW area. Service was awesome. Great selection of meats and the hand sliced bacon was phenomenal.
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
Best tenderloin you can get in the dfw area and the butcher is always funny! We get ours every Christmas and any time we jeed some yummy fresh beef!

Charles S.

Yelp
Rudolph's is a meat lover's paradise. They have everything...great quality cuts of meat, knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices. Whenever I have a meal that is important enough to drive to Dallas to visit Rudolph's, I'm never disappointed.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Service was very friendly and helpful. Owner was very knowledgeable. We got fresh cut lamb chops butured the day before, which were amazing. As was the headcheese, which was well seasoned. Just wish the cuts of meat in the cases were labeled with what they were and the price. They had a selection of goat cheese from the place next door that makes it. It was all pricey but it was a good experience.

Yelp
Went in on Saturday looking for a nice dry aged ribeye to break in the new PK grill. Tony, (aka Tony "bologna"), steered me to a good deal my friend. He set me up with a dry aged pin bone sirloin, cut into 3 steaks. I was hesitant, but went with it. So glad I did! Honestly the best steak I have ever grilled myself or had in the finest restaurants I've been to. Well done Tony and will not question your suggestions ever again!

Davrien L.

Yelp
Great place to go great meat everything was on point the summer sausage is amazing some of the best in the world
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly service and great cuts of meat. I've never had a bad experience, which is why I keep going back!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great I've been wanting to try it for a long time and finally got there before they closed at 5pm. Top of the line meat market that's been around for over 100 years. Staff is very helpful and the selection is top notch. I'll definitely be coming back. Thanks again guys for the excellent service.
google avatar

Robert A.

Yelp
I ordered a tri-tip from here trying to support small business during COVID and was very disappointed. It was fully untrimmed and barely resembled a tri tip. I emailed them a picture and received no response. For $40 I expect a lot better considering after I trimmed it myself I ended up with about 1.5 lbs of meat. I did give 2 stars because the quality was nice but I've got much better from chain grocery stores
google avatar

Mariel H.

Yelp
Having never been to a butcher's before, I looked to Yelp to help me find one, and I am SO GLAD I found Rudolph's! The staff were so friendly - Mr. David Ruiz offered some great consultation, tips, and fantastic customer service! And the meat was perfect, fresh, and oh so tasty. We will definitely be back!!

Nate B.

Yelp
Great spot to get some meat. This place has the best left handed beef jerky I have ever tasted. I am not even left handed
google avatar

George F.

Yelp
Best butcher in Dallas. I've been going there for over a decade and it's consistently A+. Steaks, chicken fajita meat, cheese, cold cuts, jerky, etc. This year I got a fresh Turkey and it was the best I've ever cooked. I can't recommend Rudolph's enough.
google avatar

Berri A.

Yelp
Hello fellow Yelpers and Yelpettes! Rudolph's sets the standard for what an old meat market was and can still be! The gentlemen behind the counter are always courteous, helpful and funny. The shop has an array of meat selections, beef, chicken. and something off the typical market. They have quail, beef tongue, (ok, folks get out of your comfort zone.) For those of us die hard old school cooks they have suet. They are a bit expensive. Their meats are well worth it along with the service. They do have a parking lot beside the building but its small. Also, if you love bread get some of the specialty Empire Bread that they get delivered fresh. I recommend the jalapeno cheese bread. It goes great with tomato soup. Happy adventurers.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
I have heard good things before I finally got to try it out. Meat is amazing. Great selection and service was very prompt. I strongly recommend to anyone looking for specialty meat
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
I had been looking forward to buying fresh meat from this meat market for a long time. We had passed this place several times before during our deep Ellum adventures. So we go in and the guy behind the counter greets us which is nice and we start looking around. No prices are listed anywhere. None of the packages in the freezer are marked or signed. None of the meat in the cold case is signed. No prices anywhere. WTH? Do they want you to ask for prices on every single thing you're interested in? We left without buying anything. Not even the spice rubs and sauces were priced. Sorry, I don't have time to play guessing games.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
I think I rolled out all the verbiage I could muster today on other reviews but since I saw this pop up, I'd like to give a good Yelp out to Rudolphs. Homemade sausage(s), aged steaks and other odds/ends. It's hard to pinpoint one thing here as a reason to return as there are multiples. We grabbed a good amount of variety and what has me doing this review is... In-house made Braunschweiger! Its really good too! I will get it every time I go. We had the wieners (awesome), hot links (very tasty but not really spicy - kind of disappointed), polish (spot on and excellent), italian sausage (when I cooked it up for a home made pizza it had just enough fat to cook, no excess - extremely lean and delicious!), summer sausage (also made in house and damn near perfect). The banter with the butcher is fun as well, these guys are a riot and add to the charm of this landmark market. It's worth a 30 min drive as well. While we didn't try the aged steaks, I'm pretty tempted next time we go to get a couple to grill up as they age them in-house too. One other suggestion for people going here the first time, there are imported items as well as items they make themselves. While I was a little annoying, I have other places I can get imported items, the whole reason for us to make the trip was for those in-house items. Just ask they'll tell you, and let you sample as well.

Yelp
Stepping in here is like a step back in time. First of all, it smells deliciously meaty and rustic in here. I came in to get some locally made beef jerky. It is surprising to me the dearth of locally made beef jerky in Dallas, but this is the jackpot. The beef jerky is very thick and flavorful, and has a great chew without being the texture of tree bark. It is expensive though. A nice 1/2 lb portion is $15, but the quality is great, and they make it all themselves. That is something to brag about if you need a "Dallas made" goodie to take out of town. I will also be back for their high quality and amazing selection of smoked meats and bolongne!

Yelp
We've been buying meat (mostly steaks) at Rudolph's for the better part of 25 years. For Father's Day, my wife picked up some filet mignon at $27 per pound. Expecting a perfect steak, we found it chewy and something akin to what we'd find at the local Kroger. I'm guessing this is because of the meat shortage. If that's the case, fine, but then lower your price to match the quality. Always a long-time fan, I'm now wondering if we'll shop there again.
google avatar

Thomas E.

Yelp
Our family has been customers with Rudolph's for three generations. The family treats each client as if they are family and indeed we are family. The sausage, and fresh turkey is fresh and with Spring on the way it's time for the hot dogs! Keep it up!
google avatar

Rick H.

Yelp
I would drive all day to buy their hot dogs! My family has been going to Rudolph's for over 50 years!! 'Nigh Said!
google avatar

Collette W.

Yelp
GREAT meat market, slightly higher priced but DEFINITELY worth it. Their chile con carne on some local tamales is life changing. The poblano sausage with Pinot Noir is a PERFECT snack.
google avatar

J G.

Yelp
I'm happy with their selection and the meat I bought. I'm not happy w/ their practice of not having their prices displayed. I was in sticker shock when I got my total but it was too late to back out so I paid. Come on Rudolphs, get with the times, display your prices and don't make me feel like a cheapskate by asking the price for every item I'm interested in.
google avatar

Kelsey S.

Yelp
Our new go to place for meat whenever we are having people over to grill out or want to smoke something. We have not been disappointed. So far we have tried the brisket, jalapeño sausage (which you must get as an add on every time you go), the regular sausage, filets, pork ribs and beef ribs - which we actually ended up liking the beef ribs better than the pork. The owner is so nice and knows everything if you have any questions at all. I have never seen something like it myself and we can't wait to go back and try more cuts out.
google avatar

Rudy K.

Yelp
I heard about Rudolph's from a friend who said they donated a large amount of food for a fundraiser event so I told myself I have to check it out. I was blown away by their selection of dry-aged meats!!! The customer service was out-of-this-world! I purchased a tomahawk and a couple ribeye that I can't wait to fire up this weekend. I also purchased some prosciutto and it reminds of the prosciutto I had recently in Italy and Spain. I also sampled some of the beef jerky and it was the best I can remember having! Needless to say, I will be going back to Rudolph's!! Thank you!

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Fantastic service and selection! Amazing pastrami, and salami choices. We had them smoke a ham for Thanksgiving and it was great. Great, old world feel once you step inside, and a level of service that time has forgotten!

Yelp
This was an unexpected find on what turned out to be a Foodie and Brew day in Dallas for us. Bring the cooler, because you are going to want to stock up when you get here. I was so excited to see the selection here and we purchased quite a few different items. The meat counter has amazing cuts of meat. Kind of funny that all the customers there on a Saturday at noon were guys, buying gorgeous steaks destined for the backyard BBQ later that day. We went the other route, selecting a variety of frozen items and a few fresh items bust as pork breakfast sausage, chorizo, Poblano Cheddar sausages and much more. They have ground lamb, sliced stead for cheese steaks and of course Carne Asada. We made our breakfast sausage the next morning and it was delicious and was very lean.. There was hardly any grease in the pan, a sign that they are not trying to add fat to be filler. I believe that the butchers here are masterful, and after being in the same location for 150 years you would expect it. Look at the cutting tables when you visit, they started our flat but and now concave because they scrape them every night for cleaning. The staff was great and made the whole experience a very positive experience.
google avatar

Matt F.

Yelp
Echoing what other reviewers have said, you can get fantastic meat with enthusiastic service from these guys, but it's true you should inquire about pricing before you buy just to be sure of how much you're shelling out. The butcher explained to me that they "dry age the entire cow," which means every single cut will come with a premium. Two large NY strips were about $50, so although it's quality meat, don't expect to pay less for a steak than you would to have it prepared for you in a restaurant. Also, some sort of price display would go a long way in pleasing the average customer. I would return, but I have to limit my visits to special occasion meal planning, not day-to-day consumption.

Yelp
This family established business has the biggest CONS WORKING FOR THEM!!!! We called and asked if they had 'Fresh cornbeef' around 15 pounds and the guy said YES we have one! We drove to deep ellum to only find out its WAS SOLID FROZEN WITH FREEZER BURN AND 18pounds! We asked if they could possibly get us a FRESH NOT FROZEN 14 pound cornbeef and he said yes ! He said he called his meat supplier and it would be there the next day, we came to pick up the delivered FRESH CORNBEEF and Paid 180.00 dollars to find out , IT WAS THE FROZEN FREEZER BURNED DEFROSTED CORNBEEF FROM THERE FREEZER ! This place is a FRAUD!!!!!!
google avatar

Jm H.

Yelp
The best hot links and hotdogs I have ever had. I love this place. Hand cut steaks while you watch. Great staff!
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
This is one of those places that intimidates me... but what you have to do is just go in and ask the butcher. Let him guide you and you won't go wrong. One more thing don't go thinking you will comparison shop with Kroger. This is a place like you might see on the food network where the butcher knows what part of the tenderloin will work best with your recipe. This is something you just don't see anymore. oh.. and some people worry about going to Deep Ellum --- Don't this place is not open after 2am --- about they only time you would have have any issues.
google avatar

Yelp
Rudolph's Market is like a walk back in time 40+ years ago and a favorite local butcher shop in the hometown I grew up in. Martin's Grocery. However, Rudolph's hangs their prime primal cuts a full 32 days for wonderfully dry aged beef perfection! Yes, just a little pricey but worth every single penny. I've been buying their polish sausage, Steaks, Bacon and Prime rib for 12 years now and have NEVER been disappointed. You will find the Best standing rib roast you've ever had, that my friends is a promise! We make frequent trips from Alabama to Colleyville/Southlake TX for visits with our Kids & Grandchildren and always with my YETI 75 on board. It's an appointment destination on final Friday Mornings at opening time to be at Rudolph's, along with a smile & my debit card. The guys are entertaining, friendly and fully knowledgeable And will answer any question you may have. One thing, please don't get the coarse hand- cut chili meat on Thursdays. It's a perfect blend of prime meats / fat ratio that makes for the best chili in the world. The reason not to is that they only keep maybe 20 pounds at a time and since I come in early on Friday I wouldn't have any to bring home to vacuum pack and freeze. Rudolph's, simply Delightful
google avatar

Cornell B.

Yelp
The best meat market in Dallas. They really care about giving you quality meat. two thumbs up!
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
Been going here for decades. The meats are truly exceptional simply because that's what they sell. The guys who work there know their business and love helping me select the right cut of meat, choice of meat for every occasion. They do what they do with excellence and don't try to be a one stop shop. We've got more than enough of those type stores for my taste. Great meat market
google avatar

susan f.

Yelp
The butcher that works there is very pushy......and before you know it you've spent too much because there's no prices on anything Bad Business. And the heavy sell has to stop!
google avatar

Tony R.

Yelp
I really wish I could give them 5 stars, since that's what drove me there after reading what everyone else rated. The service was good, however the value was not there in the quality of meat... for the price. The hotdogs are really good, however they were expensive. I paid $7.5 for 6 dogs and I will go back for them if I'm in the neighborhood. That's why they got an extra star. Sabrett's (hotdogs in natural casings) are sold cheaper at other places. I purchased beef bones (3 small), hotdogs (6), Bologna (1/4 lb), hog casings (1 pack), and small chili... I paid $43... That's a lot for "Poor Man's" food... The hog casings had whiskers and needed to be thrown away and the bones rendered very little marrow. If you have a lot of money and don't really care about quality, then you might be pleased. Again, the hotdogs are great and if you do go, please try.
google avatar

Neil M.

Yelp
I just recently went here for my first but certainly not last visit and I loved the place. The bone-in rib-eye steak I bought was the best steak I've ever had in my life and that includes having paid $75 at Nick & Sam's Steakhouse for the less superior product. I covered the steak in Worcestershire POWDER which was perfect. I also bought ham hocks and cooked them with black beans all night in slow cooker and threw in fresh cilantro and chives at the very end. Next I twice cooked the pork belly I bought from here in the oven with sweet spices purchased here as well and again the quality was exceptional. I still have duck breast, sausages, bologna and several other proteins left to try. The ONLY con about the place is the price can be steep but YOU WILL NOT REGRET COMING HERE.
google avatar

Brandi R.

Yelp
Amazing. I have only recently discovered Rudolph's but they have stolen my meaty heart. I love that we can get bacon sliced fresh and to our preferred thickness. THICK. The routine is to do three pounds or so at once on the George Foreman Grill so that it cooks quickly (both sides) and straight not wrinkley. Half goes in the fridge and then great BLTs for days. Rudolph's also has great house-made garlic bologna (I know, I know. Try it.) I once told an Amish lady I didn't like bologna not knowing it was a regional/cultural/family specialty. I had no idea I was being offensive until she made me the real deal and it was greatness. I've never said that again and places like Rudolph's make sure of it. I'm going to lose a few people here but here's the deal. If it's your flavor (and maybe even if it's not), try the liverwurst, also house made. Kuby's version is good but I have to say Rudolph's is my new fav. If you've never tried it, try it at Rudolph's...or Kuby's if you find yourself over there...especially if you like liver or pate anyway. Good things. There are more good things to discover at Rudolph's but I'll leave you with these. Go. Find meaty greatness. And some nice guys, too.

Yelp
Love this place. Always greeted with a "hello, my friend" from the main guy there. Steaks are incredible. Aged in house. Think the place has been there for 120 years or something like that. Saw someone carrying out a whole hog to smoke the other day. Need to get my game in. They have some fun gift items like spicy pickles, seasoning, hats, etc. summer sausage is nice too. Need to explore other options cuz we always stick with the steaks, tenderloin, sausages.
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
Super cool old school meat market! They are kinda pricey, but it's legit fresh meat and quality! The staff was super nice and gave me a discount! I will definitely be coming back since it's the only meat market in Dallas! It's been here for almost 120 years!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
I went here three time before doing a review, I wanted to make sure it was 5 star worthy, and let me tell you it is! You want to look like a ROCK STAR on the grill or in the kitchen, get your meat here! First trip did the Filets and they were a HUGE hit, everyone at the table agreed the best steak that they ever had! And these folks are Bobs and Nick regulars! Second trip, strips, same outcome! Third trip Ribeye bone in, WOW they were OUTSTANDING! Also picked up incredible hot dogs for kids, sausage rocks and they fresh bacon was STELLAR! Service is outstanding, brought my girls with me on the third trip and they gave them the royal treatment letting them watch the cuts and handing out tasters! Im 45 minutes away and I will defiantly make the drive!
google avatar

Wade D.

Yelp
Hello my friend, these guys rock! As noted, you pay a premium here, but if you've got a special occasion and want the best chance of finding a top quality piece of meat, or if you're looking for a special bespoke grind or custom cut or something your local grocery may not carry, this is where you need to go. Pro tip - one of the few places where you can consistently find outside skirt steak.
google avatar

Elroy J.

Yelp
This place has the best steaks you can find, we drive 70 miles to get them when we can afford it. They are a lil expensive but when you dry age beef you have to charge more, and if you don't know why then you need to really read up on dry aged beef....you lose weight in the beef from storing it due to several reasons . If you want cheap meat go to wal mart and eat the cardboard flavored beef. They don't have prices displayed but if you can't ask the butcher the price then you don't need it. There is a reason this place has been around so long....
google avatar

Jenni T.

Yelp
A REAL butcher shop. A butcher who is a REAL character...very helpful and salesmanship is very entertaining. Nothing that we have got from Rudolph's has ever disappointed...huge steaks, pork belly and even the jarred items and bread for sale at the counter are great. You can tell by the huge curved grooves in the butcher blocks behind the counter that this place is the real deal. Like others have mentioned, prices are high, so I don't do my everyday/week protein shopping here, but always stop when I want something special.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Headed back into Rudolph's today specifically for ground lamb because it was outstanding. We're huge fans of... well, lamburger-hamburgers shoved in a pita with tzatziki sauce. This lamb is perfect, lamby and moist and so flavorful. The chicken we purchased last visit was also awesome and this time we just got chicken breasts, They're small breasts, proper portion size, which is nice. I imagine they'll be just as good as the last stuff we had. Their pork tenderloin is $7.99 a pound, which is about $2 cheaper than typical Whole Foods pork tenderloin prices, so big huge hooooooray on that, we go through a lot of pork tenderloin.Their pork summer sausage is tasty but it's not what I was expecting, it's a bit more mortadella like in flavor with the softer, fattier texture. It certainly is good though. Love the guy behind the counter... he was selling hard again today, but he does it in a fun way that's not ridiculous. I explained to him that we'd LOVE to buy all sorts of things but we just don't have the fridge/freezer space, he understood. I'm thinking this is about to be our only go-to place for meat.
