I love Rudy's. My go to is always the brisket, the cole slaw and creamed corn. Today I added ribs to my lunch. They ask how many slices of bread you want. I don't normally eat white bread, but cheat day, I'm going in deep. I had super friendly service, and it was really quick. I grabbed my tray of deliciousness and walked over to the self serve area where you get your forks, and soda and sauces and napkins, those sort of items. I loaded up on the carrots. They have these spicy carrots that I'm obsessed with. I just love them. They're crunchy, they're spicy, they're fire! Love them. I find a seat, and I'm just looking at all this food. I start with my brisket sandwich. A little sauce, a lot of brisket, and little more sauce and the bread on top. I wish I grabbed 2 sauces though. Sandwich is so soft and warm and the brisket taste like Texas. I don't know how to explain it, it just tastes like you think Texas would taste. The ribs, I only got 2 cause I got half a pound of brisket already. But the ribs were amazing. So much meat in the bone, and they meat just pulls off the bone so easily. Sure was a glorious cheat day. The cole slaw was delicious as always. It's just such a simple side, but it really brings everything together. Creamed corn is very good. I never eat corn, and I always thought creamed corn was not for me as a kid. But I really love it now. And I only get it here. The food is great, and the service is consistent of Texas southern hospitality.
Something I want to mention in case you've never been to a Rudy's before. The tables are long picnic style tables. You just sit down next to strangers, and I'm telling you, it's the nicest, get to know stranger setting. I absolutely love it. I eat out alone and it's actually nice to chit chat with a stranger and enjoy a meal. You can meet some real humble, honest, politest, southernerness (is that a word?) people at a Rudy's.
I did have a visitor with me for lunch. You can see him in the picture. This is Flat Stanley. He is visiting all the way from Maine. He came here to Austin to learn about Texas, so he could go back home and tell all his friends from the second grade what cool things make up Austin and Texas. Rudy's was his favorite BBQ meal. I'm sure he'll be back again.
