Ruff House BBQ is the hands down the best BBQ around. I am a professional chef and a foodie and have very high standards when it comes down to dining out. I have never been let down by Ruff House. From their meats, and sauces to their specials and staff, everything is 10/10 every time. I am a Ventura local who has lived here over 20 years, and I am SO thankful for amazing BBQ right down the street. Can’t wait for their new location to open in the Gasworks building!!!!!

Went to Enegren Brewing Co yesterday, Sunday 5/25 for their end of the month BBQ & the food was catered by Ruff House BBQ. Although it tasted good.. Sadly, that evening I got food poisoning and was quite sick, most likely from the potato salad as I didn't eat much else. I'm writing this review to make aware, as food really needs to be better properly prepared, stored etc. Especially when on location and serving products that contains milk, dairy etc. If you've ever been affected by food poisoning, you know it's just awful and even worse when trying to enjoy a holiday. :(

Ruff House BBQ is an absolute barbecue paradise! I recently had the pleasure of savoring their mouthwatering dishes, and the experience left me utterly impressed. From the moment you walk in, the inviting aroma of smoked meats sets the stage for a flavor-packed adventure. The menu offers a fantastic variety of barbecue delights, from tender brisket to succulent ribs. Each dish is expertly prepared, showcasing a true passion for barbecue craftsmanship. The standout at Ruff House BBQ is undeniably the smoky goodness infused into every bite. The meats are perfectly cooked, retaining juiciness and flavor that make each mouthful a culinary delight. Whether you're a barbecue connoisseur or just looking for a memorable meal, Ruff House BBQ is a must-visit. It's a haven for those who appreciate the art of slow-cooked, flavorful barbecue. I'm already planning my next visit to indulge in more of their delicious offerings. Ruff House BBQ, you've won me over!

Jason dropped off 5 racks of ribs and 30 pieces of chicken for our KY Derby party. The crust on the ribs was incredible, the smokey flavor perfectly balanced with the sauce. I cannot recommend Ruff House Bbq enough! There wasn't a single piece left afterwards. Thank you!

Google
Best Texas style bbq I’ve had in CA. Seriously amazing. Can’t wait for the brick and mortar location coming soon! Brisket, Ribs, Burnt Ends and sausage are all amazing

Google
Best Texas barbeque I've had outside the Lone Star state. The sampler with sides is the best move, if you have 3 or 4. Will not disappoint.

Found it by accident. Best pulled pork sandwich and brisket! Ask the great bartender Preston for a craft beer recommendation. A side restaurant in a full music venue location.

This is the third time I came here to leave with nothing again every time I come get the maple bacon pork belly they’re always out a drive from Oxnard to Ventura and all three times of been disappointed not cool if you know that’s your number one seller cause it seems like it is You should try to have more

Yelp
I feel so fortunate that I stumbled upon the best BBQ spot thanks to Instagram! We don't really eat BBQ much but I didn't really have super high expectations since I figured it would just taste like any old BBQ but boy was I wrong. The sampler platter comes with a variety of meats and two sides, perfect to share for a group of 3-4. They set up at Ventura Music Hall every Sunday and it was a much nicer venue than I thought it would be. There are some booths and plenty of tables, as well as a clean restroom. The menu switches up a bit so be sure to give Jason a follow on IG @ruff_house_bbq to see what is on the menu for the week. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
My foodie friends have been encouraging me to come to this spot for forever now & the peer pressure was real! I knew they were serving up some tasty BBQ in the 805 and I was also lucky enough to sample their fixings at an event last year which was awesome. Even better then the food in my opinion was the hospitality and passion of the owner. He was extremely nice & gracious, exited to have everyone try his food and BBQing is clearly a labor of love so I tip my hat off to anyone who can do it well. With that said, is Ruff House BBQ one of the best BBQ spots in the 805, very likely (haven't tried them all but out of the ones I've tried this was definitely good). However, the hype got to us a little and as a group of three we were expecting this to be some of the best BBQ we've ever had based on the ongoing word of mouth and stellar yelp reviews. It was good don't get me wrong, but I don't think it completely lived up to what everyone said as every bite wasn't a 5/5 and having been blessed to travel the states trying BBQ from Texas and Kansas I had higher expectations then I should have. I was actually the most generous as I thought Ruff House was a solid 4/5 but the other two at my table were closer to 3.5 tough crowd and I guess even better they aren't leaving the reviews. I personally love the location as I frequent the Ventura Music Hall often and I love a more hidden locals only pop up. The venue is spacious and can fit a good amount of people as they definitely get a long line and can get busy. Nice that Ventura Music Hall opens up their bar during these hours if you want some booze. I'm also really excited about their business that they'll be opening up in downtown Ventura, a brick and mortar business is exactly what they need to get more foot traffic. Staff are super friendly and nice. Not sure if the staff working in the restaurant kitchen side are ruffs team or staff from the music hall but either way everyone was super nice and helpful. Like I said before the owner has always been nice and great that the good vibes carry over to the team working the weekend bbq shift. Be prepared to wait, nothing wrong with that - shows that people like it but this isn't a quick in and out grab unless you come right at opening. We came about 11:20am and we were not eating until closer to 12pm. This didn't bother me at all, good food takes time. Just noting for others who might be more particular about this. Pricing is a little costly but meat is expensive I get that. I'll pay a lot for a good meal but the platter we ordered for three people was $110 and given that we didn't leave noting it at 5 stars yet isn't ideal. The more people the better to split the costs and to get to try a little bit of everything. Now for the foods! My hands down favorite was the brisket. It was truly delicious. Juicy, flavorful, and a glorious smoke ring. Having smoked brisket myself I know how much work it is and this was a 5/5 hands down. I'd definitely get this again. Loved the crust and it was clearly a fan favorite as we saw a lot of people getting it. As a side the broccolini was the perfect side to breakup the heavy meat filled meal, a good choice. That was about my only favorites though this trip. The pulled pork was just okay and I remember thinking this the last time I had it. The biggest bummer being a girl who loves sausage (don't worry I get jokes about this all of the time) was how overly peppery today's batch was. I like a good pepper bite and flavorful profile but all three of us agreed it was overdone and hard to eat. Probably the first time I've left sausage behind...Lastly, the Mac and cheese just isn't for me, I've had it twice now and I don't find it to be as creamy or rich as I like my Mac and cheese to be. The BBQ is heavy enough, so maybe this is intentional but between three of us we didn't finish that side. All in all there were some mega hits and a couple misses. That's why I think 4 stars is just despite the intimidation to not give this spot the 5 so many felt it deserved. I would definitely love to come back and am really excited for their storefront coming to Ventura. The brisket alone was well worth another visit. Also I follow them avidly on social media and some of their specials look fantastic, bummed I had missed their gumbo and I definitely need to come back to try their burnt ends and pork belly.

Yasu Y.

Yelp
Uh... what everyone said. 5 stars. Wow. How is the Mac and cheese so damn good? Gained 3lbs today.

Benjamin P.

Yelp
Prepare for a feast. The food is so good and bbqed perfectly. And the sides are just as good. Especially the mac n cheese. Jason is an awesome guy. We're best friends but he doesn't know it yet. He serves out of the Ventura Music Hall, which is really cool. It's a nice venue. Order ahead if you can to make sure you get the goods. And don't forget the sauce!

Erica G.

Yelp
#ThankYouThursday. Thank you for serving the best BBq in the 805. Woot woot .. Oxnard native too.. like me. I can always count on having an amazing food experience! From the tacos , smash burgers, biscuit sandwiches to the yummy brisket. Currently, located at the Ventura Music Hall but looking forward to when you open your place! Thank you for raising funds for Children's Hospital and supporting other local businesses by collaborating or being a patron!!! Your business is truly a local gem!

Yelp
Ruff House BBQ left an ever-lasting impression on me since the day I traveled to Ventura to try it. I arrived just before they opened, and even though the line didn't seem too long; I still had to wait about an hour and a half to finally place my order. So, come with patience here! I promise the wait is totally worth it. BTW, it is located in the Ventura Music Hall and only offered on Sundays from 11am-3pm (or until they sell out), but Jason the master BBQ wizard does occasional pop-ups at other locations. Check out his IG page for daily updates @ruff_house_bbq Ok, so I was kind of overwhelmed on what to order even though I stared at the menu while waiting in line. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, but then again it always does when you haven't eaten. I ended up going with the Chipotle Cheddar Beef Hot Link ($7), 1/2 pound Spare Ribs ($14), and 1/2 lb. Maple Bacon Pork Belly Burnt Ends ($14). I also ordered the banana cream pie pudding cup ($8), which was mind blowing delicious! It wasn't overly sweet and very well put together. These are made by Jess who teams up with Jason on Sunday's to provide the best desserts to accompany the BBQ. Her IG handle is @awkwardpastrychef if you'd like to check out her page. As for the food, the beef hot link wasn't too spicy and the Dijon dipping sauce to accompany it was the perfect balance of sweet n tangy. The spare ribs were love at first bite!! The meat was super tender, melt in your mouth delicious, and it had the perfect amount of smokiness. Honestly, these were the best I ever had in all my life lol. I also enjoyed the bbq sauce that was served with this, but you could eat them just as is. The Maple Bacon Pork Belly Burnt ends are a must order! They are little pieces of heaven and melt in your mouth. I devoured these in my car, and they didn't even require a dip in the bbq sauce that came with it. This is Cali meets Texas style BBQ, and although I've never tried Texas BBQ; this has got my stamp of approval and deserves an award! This was one of my favorite BBQ experiences I've ever had and I am looking forward to going back soon!

Yelp
Finger licken good! Meat falling off the bone and into your mouth. You can tell the owner, Jason, has a passion for grilling. All the food is cooked perfectly and to make it even better the bbq sauce is just delish to smother on top of everything. Or maybe I can ask for a straw to drink it directly . I recently tried the brisket esquite, and I don't think I can have one anywhere else now. So yummy! Right now, you can enjoy this deliciousness at the Ventura Music Hall, which is actually a pretty cool spot. But there will be a new location soon, so stay posted so you know where to find this amazing bbq.

Allison C.

Yelp
If there is one thing that comes to my mind when I think about Ruff House BBQ it is how passionate they are about what they are doing. You can tell that this is more than just a business to them. They care about providing quality food to the Ventura community and keep affordability in mind. I was fortunate enough to sample most of their foods at a Yelp Elite event and have been twice now to take advantage of their $5 smashburger appreciation days. I hope to make it out one weekend to get some more of their fantastic pulled pork, brisket, and mac n cheese soon! They currently do not have a permanent "home" and mostly operate out of the Ventura Music Hall on the weekends and sometimes at Poseidon Brewery. They offer a variety of meats including home-made sausages, tri tip, ribs, chicken, and more! Jason really knows what he is doing and it shows in the quality and flavor of the food!

Jara S.

Yelp
whenever I see Korean shortrib in a menu I always order it, I mean how can one go wrong. Perfect fat to meat ratio and bone in. Stopped by for the collab special along with some staples. Got me the kalbi -- over coal friends, over coal. Those of you know, will know. There isn't a sub for that coal, smokey taste in bbq. Garlic rice from Lola Bettys was the perfect partner for it. Brisket was done perfect as usual and the maple pork belly burnt ends made for a perfect kimchi fried rice the day after. Appreciate that there are lots of specials and local collaborations to keep things fresh.

Tiffany M.

Yelp
We got food at work for a retirement party and everything was delicious!! The tri tip, BBQ chicken, brisket, Mac n cheese, Cole slaw, pickles, garlic bread.... YUM! Would definitely order from them again!!!

Julia C.

Yelp
This place used to be really good but the past few times that I've gone the brisket isn't the same (not as tender as it used to be) today I ordered togo and the brisket was over cooked as shown in my picture. Everything else still tasted good sad that the brisket isn't as great as it used to be. It's a hit or miss for the brisket. I will probably wait a few months before giving it another shot.

Kim C.

Yelp
I didn't want to just like this place... I wanted to love it because of all of the hype (I was following them on IG forever). But as they say, don't always believe the hype. I lined up early at Ventura Music Hall (where they host on Sundays) as I've heard the line wraps around the building. I was 4th in line and it took quite a while for me to get up front to order (it would really help if there was a QR code with the menu at the door so people wouldn't be so indecisive when they got to the front). As a solo diner, I was hoping for a combo that had meat, couple of sides. They don't offer that so I had to order everything separately. For the smallest order of brisket, 3 sides, their sausage waffle stick and dessert, my total was $60. Ouch. The sides are big enough to share among 3-4 people. The menu should have something to accommodate single diners IMO but I digress... I sat down at the bar and was ignored initially; three male guests were asked what they wanted to drink ahead of me (presumably because they were regulars since the bartender knew them by name) which was frustrating. You absolutely don't ignore guests, especially when you make eye contact. I finally got my drink and I politely asked several times for a game to be put on and there seemed to be an issue with my request. The bartender asked for help from other staff and they seemed annoyed. Maybe get the TVs going before you open? If I'm sitting at the bar and ordering a drink, I'd like to watch a game; NOT a screen saver of the beach. Food-wise, the meat was dry; not a juicy flavor like I was anticipating. It was smokey and had a red ring, very nice visually. I couldn't even really save it with the bbq sauce because even that wasn't anything to write home about. The sausage waffle special had me super excited until I took a bite and it was pink inside. The batter was great but a butter pecan syrup would have been more fitting considering the smokiness of the one bite of sausage I managed to get in. The Hawaiian mac salad and the pickle & onion garnish were the winners for me, although I was hoping it would be more considering it's a bbq place. I noticed a lot of robust and smokey flavors, so having a sweeter bbq sauce would have been a better accompaniment. However, those pickles were the real deal. Dessert was good but small for the price. The beans absolutely need a makeover. This is a very unique set up and we are lucky to have something cool like this in Ventura. I've only known the owner to appear very hard working and I hope he continues to be successful. I would try it again if I were with a group as the menu is not solo-diner friendly. The thing that weighs heaviest for me is how I was treated at the bar but hopefully it's a teachable moment. Maybe the brisket wasn't a good choice for my palate, who knows. I've had mediocre experiences in the past which completely turned around on subsequent visits so I'm hoping that happens in this case.

Yelp
Is it possible to fall in love with a plate of bbq? Asking for myself. This food was so incredible that it was shocking. It was obvious the care and time that was put into smoking and preparing the meat because it was so well seasoned and tender. I was also served by the chef himself which was a great touch getting to talk to him and see how passionate he was about the food he served. He was down to earth which after trying his food he had every right to not be humble because that food was fire. So so good, you need to try this place!

Jose G.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of finally trying Jason's food for the first time. Had the tri tip, brisket,, and pork belly. Chicken for the kids. Everything was full of flavor. Sides were good as well, and Jason gave my kids a free cookie each which made their day. Great way to treat a customer. It was a little quiet in there so I would have like a little music/ noise ..: but that's more because my kiddos can be loud and when it's too quiet I don't want it bothering other guest.

Roman V.

Yelp
To begin, I've followed this place on IG even before moving to the area, and I finally had a chance to come and check it out. The only I can tell is - phenomenal! I smoke food myself and have also made quite a few trips to Texas, trying up to #2 in the "Top 100 BBQ joints in TX" list, and I can admit Ruff House could easily be among those places. We had brisket, ribs, burnt ends, and a sausage this time, and It was hands down the best brisket I've ever tried. Everything tasted great and was juicy and tender. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food in the area! Will come and check their burgers today cause they also looked bomb. Didn't even take a picture cause it smelled sooo nice:)

Raquel O.

Yelp
Been wanting to come here ever since I tried it at an event. Been wanting my husband to try it, too. Saw he was going to be opening for Mardi Gras and told my husband we are going. We went right when he started serving orders since we have a little one so it was empty. Staff was all really nice. All the tacos sounded really good. Ended up going with brisket tacos. Once I got home I regretted not getting another one. Either way, it was delicious. The avocado salsa and queso fresco blended perfect with the brisket tacos. My husband has had BBQ in Dallas, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Colorado, Las Vegas, New Mexico, Oregon and probably more areas since he loves BBQ. After trying this he said this is by far the best brisket he has had. He's excited to go on a Sunday and try one of his trays to taste more. I am excited to get some of that Mac n Cheese and pickles again! Amazing! Do yourself a favor and go get some!

Monica N.

Yelp
Ruffhouse bbq is SO. DANG. DELICIOUS. Very glad to have bbq in midtown and hope this place is here to stay. Everything I've tried has been perfect - thick slabs of juicy brisket, smoky pulled pork sandwich with plenty of pickles, picnic potato salad (tangy, dill, with satisfying tiny crunchy things...prob onion?), esquite corn, texas brisket in beans, and Mac n cheese. Sometimes I get full off of the sides alone, oops. You can tell everything is made with so much love and soul. As of January 2023, he has a weekly Sunday pop up from 11-4 (or sellout) at the ventura music hall. There is ample parking at the music hall, lots of seating, corn hole, and a full bar! He is also setup via 3rd party delivery services for some menu items (burgers and sandwiches). My takeout picture does not do the food any justice. Will post an update if I get a better shot soon!

Vanessa S.

Yelp
Came here for lunch today and I was blown away. Best burger I've had in a long time. The homemade pickles (I usually hate pickles btw) on the burger plus whatever sauce was on it that tasted like a sweet Smokey mustard....SO GOOD. The fries also had a Cajun like seasoning on them.....I'm drooling again just thinking about them. I walked in and ordered and it was out quick and fresh. Definitely recommend for everyone to try. Service was great as well for take out. There are also tables and a large bar inside. Thank you for the delicious lunch!! Can't wait to go back and try that brisket and Mac n cheese!

Lorraina S.

Yelp
We ordered online to pick up and the service was amazing, they treat their regulars like family and the food was delicious. It was our first time going to this spot and we ordered the flight tray, sausages, and strawberry shortcake. In the tray we got brisket, pulled pork, ribs, broccolini, and mac n cheese. It was all super tender, flavorful, and delicious! The sausages were probably my favorite. I will definitely be going back again, 10/10 experience

Alex F.

Yelp
I happened to be in Ventura and was lucky enough to stumble upon Ruff House when looking for a lunch spot. The bbq is absolutely incredible and I can't say enough about the quality of the smoked meats. The flavor and bark on the pork spare ribs was the best I've had, and the Mac n cheese has a unique smokiness/chipotle type flavor that's hard to describe but I absolutely loved it. Definitely looking forward to trying out more of the menu next time, and leaving room for dessert. The restaurant is inside of a music venue and I didn't see a single sign, banner, etc. for the restaurant on the outside which was pretty confusing, but I'm glad that I poked my head in to make sure I was in the right spot. Conclusion - If you're in the mood for great bbq I would highly recommend. It's worth driving 30+ minutes because it's that good, but make sure to come early as they do sell out!

Alana M.

Yelp
I absolutely love Ruff House. I was introduced to them at a Yelp event but have had their bbq several times since. It's without a doubt my favorite BBQ in the county and I follow them on IG to see where they are having pop ups, from breweries to golf courses! They're usually at Ventura Music Hall on Sundays but follow their social media to be sure. The brisket is incredibly flavorful and is my absolutely favorite. They are always offering new items on the menu. For example, we came once for the crawfish broil which my boyfriend really enjoyed. I love their brisket, pulled pork and Mac n cheese. You can tell the owner is very passionate about bbq because the quality of the food is excellent!

Emily V.

Yelp
There are not enough stars that you could give this place to adequately sum up the deliciousness of the food. Jason the owner is the real deal in and out of the kitchen! THE FOOD should be illegal it's so good. Currently in the Ventura music hall and that's such a fun space and has corn hole too! It gets loud but also that's just the perfect vibe. Get any and all sausage you can. Smash burgers? Incredible. Half chicken? HUGE. Smoked Mac and cheese? Make it my last meal.

Jordan J.

Yelp
best smash burger in the 805, without a doubt very fast great bbq not too expensive great

Rusty S.

Yelp
Sundays are for barbecue in Ventura! I will definitely say that you shouldn't sleep on Ruff House. Jason puts his heart and soul into making some of the best barbecue I've had outside of Memphis. The staff is super friendly and always has a smile on their faces. Having his pop up at Ventura Music Hall is great too, Plenty of room for corn hole and DJ to spin tunes. There's always something amazing going on with the food and they also feature collabs with local breweries, bakers, and foodies to have something tempting on the menu. Get there before open because like any good Texas barbecue, their craft is in quality, not quantity. You don't want to be in line when things get crossed off the menu board!

Laura M.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! I often find myself disappointed when I'm craving BBQ in Ventura, but with Ruff House I'm only disappointed when it's not Sunday. That's right, they're only open one day a week for a few hours, but it's absolutely worth the wait. I've tried the ribs, burnt ends, brisket, and chicken, plus all the sides, and everything has been outstanding. Special shout out to the chicken, often overlooked at BBQ places - it was soooo juicy and delicious. Strongly recommend!!

Isaac E.

Yelp
Hands down the best bbq I've had outside of the south. Saying the food was delicious is an understatement. The brisket, burnt ends, brocollini and Mac n cheese are a must try. The service was great. I'd definitely recommend this spot to friends and family.

C P.

Yelp
Food was great! Glad someone mentioned it to us this week. Soo full of flavor. Got here at 12:00. They open at 11. There's a line to order. Expect to wait. Brisket and beans sold out by 12:30. so we ordered pulled pork, link, pork burndt ends, ribs, mash potatoes with gravy, Mac n cheese. I'm not a Mac n cheese fan but this one I will do again! All the items full of flavor. Girl at counter very nice. Expect to wait after your order is put in. Have a drink. Watch some football. We got our order by 1:30 and enjoyed it. Will be back to try the brisket whenever it's open again

KY C.

Yelp
Yo yo yo!!! This place is amazing! The wife and I pulled up for dinner and a concert ( Big Head Todd and the Monsters) and we're amazed with the skills of Chef Jason! This dude is amazing and deserves a store front PRONTO. The wedge salad was amazing and he has a unique spin on the impossible burger. All love here!!! He's here every other Sunday, so if you're looking for amazing BBQ, check out Ruff House!

Ally H.

Yelp
STOP WHAT YOURE DOING AND TRY RUFFHOUSE BBQ THIS BBQ IS TO DIE FOR. We hired them for a corporate party of 60, which seems tough to make everything perfect for that many people but RUFFHOUSE delivered! Everyone was so stoked THE MAC N CHEESE -incredible pulled pork- amazing Try tip- out of this world If you have a big party or event I would highly recommend Ruffhouse to cater 10/10

Albert Q.

Yelp
A sandwich board in front of the newly opened Ventura Music Hall caught my eye as I wizzed by, hand written it read, RUFF HOUSE BBQ OPEN INSIDE. I got home and walked over to check out their offerings. I immediately decided on the brisket sandwich and loaded toys with pulled pork. Menu is full of your bbq usual suspects and possible gems. After ordering I realized I probably should have ordered the Frito Pie in place of the loaded tots (not saying I didn't enjoy the tots). I waited inside the newly opened Ventura Music Hall for my order to go. Indoor dining is available too. Now to the meat of this review. The brisket sandwich was phenomenal. The smoke ring was visible, the bread toasted just right, and meat trimmed leaving a delightful amount of fat. The pickles on the sandwich provided the amount of acidity needed to make it all dance deliciously in my mouth. The loaded tots can be made with any of their protein options. I choose mine with pulled pork. The pulled pork seemed to be in a Carolina style, with a what tasted to be a apple cider finish. The pulled pork was crisp, flavorful, and not too greasy. The tots themselves were well seasoned. The accoutrements of jalapeño and pickled onions balanced it all out with some nice heat to boot. I will back for the Frito Pie!

August S.

Yelp
This is the pinnacle of bbq in ventura. It is absolutely amazing, all the flavors are perfect and the service is impeccable every single time. Despite being inside the music hall they still make the most of it and have an amazing set up and process. The owner is so awesome towards everyone, the food is great, best bbq in ventura by far

Michael J.

Yelp
I'm so excited that Ventura has a real BBQ joint. My daughter and nephew picked up some brisket and gave me and my wife a taste. My wife ran back to get us 2 Beef Ribs, 2lbs of Brisket, Mac and Cheese and Potato Salad. It was amazing. I have not had any Texas BBQ this good in California. I'm telling all my friends, please go tell your friends because this guy has got to stay open more than one day a week. Keep doing what you're doing.

Kisha L.

Yelp
Please for the love of God give this man a store front!!! We were fortunate enough to hear that RH would have their full BBQ setup today at Poseidon Brewery. We've watched BBQ TV shows and always wondered what it would be like to eat meat that good? This is it! The meat is that good! Seriously - every bite was great. When they get their own spot we will be regular customers for sure.

Mrwho5150 ..

Yelp
The Hero the county needs. I have been praying to the gods that good BBQ would come to Ventura. The gods have answered. If you are craving BBQ there is simply no other place to go. Jason and his team do things right. Support this crew!!! 5/5 10/10 100/100 My only complaint? When someone comes out with a marker and strikes an item off the menu.

Alejandra G.

Yelp
My all time favorite food. Literally EVERYTHING is good here.Smash Burger is one of my favorites. And the brisket is to die for

Vance B.

Yelp
Very casual, we had the pulled pork and the brisket burnt ends. Plus the corn and the coleslaw. It was all really delicious highly recommend it.

M Z.

Yelp
Pulled pork was pretty good, brisket burnt ends even better. Street corn was delicious and cole slaw was very fresh, not overly sweet. They have a full bar. It's very casual. Counter service and paper plates.

Bomb. Everything is always so bomb! 10 stars!! Just go find this guy at where his pop up is at the time. We travel near and far for Jason's food! The best bbq you'll get outside of Texas. My favorites are his brisket/brisket sandwich or his smashburger (brisket blend) mmmm so hungry now.

Yelp
Jason is the coolest! You can see, taste, and feel the passion in his food. Always high energy. Only person he's missing is LEEN! Gotta get that girl back! She's amazing to represent you and your food!

Yelp
This place is simply amazing. Ruff House BBQ ruined Thanksgiving for my family. Now, we can never have a turkey any other way for the rest of our lives. It was beyond delicious, the juices, the flavor....my god. If your reading this and haven't had one of their smoked turkeys for thanksgiving, you should be jealous, then you should go to the bathroom and look at yourself in the mirror and cry in shame that you didn't get a smoked turkey for your family on Thanksgiving. You disgust me. Let that shame sit with you until next year so you can right that wrong. Best Thanksgiving Turkey we ever had, would highly recommend.

Yelp
Food is FIRE! It's like backyard bbq but.... professional, which I guess mostly makes it not like backyard bbq at all, but you get my drift. It's for sure not anything like chain restaurant food. I've been following Ruff House around for their various Pop-Ups for about a year now, and am thrilled they have a regular location that I can get food from. I've visited them at the Ventura Music Hall now twice, and that menu is perfect. Do yourself a solid, get in there early if you're going to show and eat some amazing dinner.

Yelp
First time I had the Brisket Ruff House BBQ was at Tarantula Brewing last June 10th. Huge crowd & line were so encouraging to try the "much talked about " bbq. My first bite of the brisket sandwich was to die for. So much flavor & melt in your mouth. I recommend to try this 100% & you will be hook to it. My husband & I will go to their restaurant in Ventura.

Yelp
Ordered first time past weekend. Burnt Pork Ends, Quarter Chicken and their Esquites. All stand outs! Chicken had a great smoke, moist and ruby smoked red skin. Burnt Pork Ends, great char, sticky smoked on sauce and super moist and tender. And the Esquites, tender, moist, chili spiced que flavor, a great side! One of the best BBQ I've had in Ventura County! The owner the Que Master manned the kitchen, thumbs up. Will be back when my BBQ fix needs quenching!

Yelp
I have been following their journey as pop up BBQ because of how amazing their smoked brisket is. I have seen this business expand to offering vegan friendly options!!! BBQ and vegan don't necessarily go hand in hand, but he doesn't spare any efforts in making sure his food tastes great! As someone who was vegan for about 5 years(had health issues) and someone who still eats 99% vegan food, I have absolutely loved everything on his menu! From the brisket- to the pulled pork tacos- the impossible burger with a twist- the potatoes salad- the Mac and cheese- the cauliflower wings..... I mean there is nothing I haven't tried that I didn't like! I highly Recommend trying them out!

Yelp
Stopped by here last Thursday for the thievery corporation show and to grab a smash burger and some wings. The burger was super juicy and filling. stoked to have a smash burger spot in Ventura. The curly wedge fries were also awesome. The wings let me state are some of the best in Ventura the smoke flavor was insane and I've been thinking about them all week. Tell your friends this is the new go to.

Yelp
Absolutely AMAZING BBQ. The burnt ends are probably my favorite, but I've never had a single bad item here, and I've tried A LOT of it. But the burnt ends... oh my gosh, truly meat candy. The brisket is so insanely tender. And their tamales are delish too. I've never had anything like smoked Mac and cheese before, but it's excellent. The portions are a good size, which is surprising given how QUALITY the food is. And there are vegetarian options for when you want something a little lighter!

Yelp
Just omg what real bbq is supposed to taste like. The brisket is seasoned perfectly and so juicy. The dinosaur bone is so tender and flavorful. All the sides down to the pickled onions and pickles are homemade and the best I've had. I never give reviews but I was so blown away I just had to. Thank you for making some amazing bbq.

Yelp
Great food had the tritip salad Mac and cheese beans and pulled pork. Tritip tasted great but slices were a little big 1/2-3/4 is a little to thick for me pulled pork was awesome but a couple extra minutes pulling the large fat out would make it perfect bread was plain turn it in to garlic Texas toast and your on point also loved the bbq sauce real potential here
