We are from out of town but decided to stop here to try some halal food. We had no prior experience with east African food. We each ordered a chicken dish. Our food was prepared fresh and was very flavorful. It seemed like there were many to go orders, but we chose to dine in. If we were in Fargo again we would stop again! Portions were generous and cost was reasonable too!

Google
The guy is an excellent cook and provides outstanding customer service. The food took about 20 minutes, which was not a long wait at all—I even brought a magazine to read while waiting. The meal was absolutely delicious and made to perfection! The tea was fantastic as well. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Google
The food is great. It was served with love and care. Most importantly, the wait time was appropriate! If you find yourself in the area, treat yourself to an Eastern African food well served.

Google
One of the best local family ran African restaurants, great food, great service it might take a minute for your order to be delivered because they will COOk you the food, which mean you’re eating something authentic not processed Give them a try

Google
Food exceeded expectations! Stopped for a quick lunch- lots of options with reasonable prices. The chicken and rice small plate will be enough for 2 lunches easily. Tons of food! The best part was the kind and welcoming staff! I had an issue with my credit card and she helped me problem solve with a smile and even laughed at my stupid jokes :) The atmosphere was very clean and cozy. First time trying and will be returning!

Google
This restaurant had more of a commercial feel to it as opposed to being authentic. BUT... It was in fact authentic as the owner was there cooking and he is from Africa. The food was pretty good. I had the chicken and rice and would recommend it. My friends shared a Sports Plate. Their goat was a little too chewy for them but the other meats were good.

Google
This brings me back home to AUTHENTIC food. I love this place and their service is top notch. Never have I been disappointed, never have they messed my order up. When I need a stress free experience. This is where I go! Love y'all!!!!

Google
I had a very disappointing experience at Rugsan Casino on 13th Ave in Fargo. The customer service was awful. I waited for over an hour just to get my order, and no one seemed to care. The lady working there was extremely rude and disrespectful. It felt like customers were being ignored on purpose. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for decent service or a welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
My son and I had dinner here and had a great meal. We both tried different dishes. The ordering was easy and they described the dishes since we did not know exactly what some of them were. There are a few seats to sit down and have a meal. I did noticed quite a few people simply ordered for pickup. Overall the meal was great and will plan on stopping again!

Yelp
Tried the "goat meat with rice" recommended by previous reviews, and was definitely not disappointed. The meal was delicious & the portion was huge! The restaurant was clean and the owner was super nice. I can't wait to visit this place again to try their other menu items. I ordered my food to-go, and it really wasn't that much of a wait. Highly recommend to try this place out if you're in the area!

Yelp
This was our first time trying Somalian cuisine and we loved it. We ordered goat meat with rice and chicken quesadilla . Food was deliciously flavorful and portion was huge which was more than enough for 2 people. My child loved the chicken quesadilla. Spice level is just perfect, and felt like home cooked food. Moreover, the customer service was excellent. We would love to eat here again when we visit Fargo next time.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the portions are very generous. The owner was very friendly and made the food fresh and hot.
google avatar

Yelp
I got a samosa, which was soft and delicious, and a chapati chicken wrap, which was piping hot and devoured. The man who cooked the food also rang me up, and he was very nice. So happy I came here.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried the chicken, goat, and steak platter along with the sambuca and camel milk. The platters are huge - definitely for two people. Tastes great, this was an awesome find in North Dakota, didn't expect to find this here. Definitely try this place. It's inexpensive, you get a lot of food, and it tastes really good.

Yelp
They only had one thing on the menu for a vegetarian, beans & rice, which I love but I eat it all the time, so they offered to make up something else for me -- a vegetables and rice wrap and hot sauce. Very friendly staff. Love the large photo of Mogadishu in its prime -- beautiful city, and will be beautiful again some day.

Yelp
This restaurant is the only Somali spot I go to here in Fargo. Owner is friendly and very helpful. The food here is fantastic! Large portions and very flavorful. Ya'll gotta try the marinated steak with rice or the goat meat with rice... Bomb!

Yelp
This place is the best restaurant in Fargo. My boyfriend and I drive through Fargo a few times a year on the way to Montana and we have to stop here no matter what. Absolutely delicious. I spent a summer in Tanzania and was so excited they have chapati. I got the fish and rice and my boyfriend got chicken curry and he said it's probably some of the best food he's ever had. Highly highly recommend. And they have a great selection of juice that is hard to find anywhere else. Absolutely delicious!!!
google avatar

Cris F.

Yelp
The place is nice and clean enough. Nice owner and service. The goat and rice was the best ever. The Kay Kay chicken was new to use and not that great. Will return asap.
google avatar

Sahar A.

Yelp
I would give it a 3.5. The food was absolutely great! I had the goat and rice. A lot of flavor with the goat dish and a hearty serving of rice with it. The only reason I'm giving it a 3 is because it wasn't clean and it felt really grimy in the building. They could use a deep clean....

Rachel L.

Yelp
The whole family loves when I order out from Rugsan. I did not know until ordering from here that cardamom is a common space used in East African cooking, particularly in the rice. It is just a delicious flavor accent with their other meat and vegetable dishes. We've had almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. It is a family run small restaurant, so if you place a large order it might take a while for them to prepare your food because every dish is made to order. We have never been disappointed with our meals and that says some thing in a family with some picky eaters.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in town. big portions and amazing food! chicken, steak and rice is delicious as well as the sambusa!
google avatar

Jon D.

Yelp
Love this place, fresh and clean. The owner is present and helpful with some of the foods I am not familiar with. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
One of my favorites in Fargo! Everything has great flavor. We usually get the sport plate when we get Togo. It's enough fir the whole family. My in house favorite is Kay Kay, spicy and delicious! Husband loves the sambosa but they don't always have them.
google avatar

Priscilla A.

Yelp
They are the worst!!!!! My uber driver arrived at the exact time that was estimsted and they took extra 45 minutes. Very bad preparation and customer service

Yelp
before here we had never eaten at an African restaurant, we got the Chicken with rice, meat with rice and fish with rice for take away, once we opened the box up and we were surprised by how much rice there was, so much rice. on the fish plate there was what i can only describe as a Tilapia filet cut in half to appear like two filets, and that's it. one filet and a mountain of rice (rice that we weren't accustomed to) but to their credit the seasoning on the fish, chicken and meat was amazing, just wished that we got a little more meat and a lot less rice.
google avatar

Kira L.

Yelp
This place had great food! They were very helpful in picking food out. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Fargo!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Not having been through Fargo in quite a while, I was surprised that Yelp had so many listings for African restaurants. After careful review reading, we picked this spot, and I'm very happy we did. I had the goat and rice, ordered spicy, and it was delicious. Not overwhelmingly fiery, but delicious. The menu is pretty large, but I feel like I picked the right dish!
google avatar

Nicole H.

Yelp
Amazing food and hospitality. We were offered lentil soup while we ordered our food. Large enough portions for 2 people and very reasonable prices. Possibly the best tasting goat I have ever had. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because there was a lot of use of styrofoam and water is served in plastic bottles. I would love to see them make some changes to be a little greener but we will be back!
google avatar

Karin T.

Yelp
We love food adventures! We had the goat meat, Kay Kay, & chicken stew, $10 each. Spicy and good. No explanation of menu items, no meatless options. Free Lentil soup good. All 3 dishes has similar taste. Staff very friendly. Cons: Goat meat had lots of bones. The bathroom surfaces were dirty.
google avatar

Annie W.

Yelp
I had their fish and rice lunch. The fish was done to perfection, the rice was also perfect, very vibrant flavors, and a LOT of food. One plate could have served two. This is not a complaint, at all. Also the sauce (I think was a chutney) restored my faith in humanity. Eat here. Friendly staff, fast service, and very low prices for what you are getting.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Excellent food, generous portions and friendly staff. Highly recommend. The food was delicious... I can't wait to come back and try something new. Definitely worth the trip.
google avatar

Logan W.

Yelp
I'm a very picky eater, limited to burgers, pizza, and mcdicks. Saw this place one day and thought fuck it. I used to never like rice, spinach, and goat meat but this place, the owner has made routine for me to stop and eat for dinner! It's an amazing hole in the wall food joint!

Yelp
One of my "go to" restaurants in the Fargo/Moorhead area. I'm a returning customer for a reason. And that reason is the delicious authentic food & quick, polite& personable customer service. The owner always greets me with a smile and expresses how my patronage matters. The portions of food are very generous & the prices are very reasonable.

Yelp
I have been meaning to try this restaurant for the past few months. I have heard good things about it from the local Somali community. It is a small little restaurant with nothing fancy about it. It was clean and smelled wonderful. It was bustling with members of the Somali community talking and clearly enjoying their meals. Being slightly familiar with Somali cuisine I chose what seems to be a popular staple, chicken and rice, with a couple Sombusas and a sparkling Vimto. The cook asked if I wanted it spicy I said yes, not really knowing how spicy it would be. The Chicken and Rice was prepared perfectly with the perfect amount of spice. The Sombusas were good but not bursting with flavor as I have become accustomed too. There was more than enough for me to finish in one setting so I was able to box up the unfinished portions and have a midnight snack. The only negative comment I have to mention were the tables had been wiped down but had a greasy unclean feeling to them. I wished I had brought some wipes so I could clean the table before hand. I think anyone who enjoys sampling food from other cultures should give this Rugsan Cuisine a try. I suspect you will be highly impressed.

Yelp
We were passing through Fargo ! Wow! Everything is amazing! This is worth your time! I wish we had this at home! You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
While I won't claim to have a highly developed palate for Somali cuisine, I can say our dinner here was one of the most flavorful meals had in a while. And from the start, it was a very pleasant experience. The place appeared tidy and clean. The menu was quite extensive, but I gather they're out of some items from time to time. Then again, that's sometimes a good sign that they're cooking from scratch with fresh ingredients. The man behind the counter was very gracious - great about recognizing we knew little about the food and helped us with the menu. We both had sambosas to start and they were delicious. They packed a little heat, but not too much for us. I tried the Kay Kay with goat curry (a little spicy for Nancy) and Nancy ordered the chicken and rice (not spicy but delicious). We both nearly licked our plates clean.

Kylie R.

Yelp
I've eaten their 2x, once in the restaurant and another to-go. The first time I got goat and chicken with rice, and the second time I had their Tilapia and steak with noodles. Their plates and portions are very generous, so honestly me and my husband are able to split a plate and be full. They're very sweet and I've yet to encounter anything all around that puts me off about this place. Every time I go inside there's a real family, community vibe and that's very comforting.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
One of my first experiences with Somali food and it was fantastic. You order at the counter, have a seat, and don't have to wait long. Their top specialties are the goat with rice and the chicken with rice. I tried both with my friends and was impressed with the quality of ingredients and spice flavors! The main dinners come with a banana (per tradition we were told). I had the snack size fried fish with fries - great deal for sure.

Yelp
I have grown up eating African American food. Goat is something that is easy messed up. Their goat is wonderful an worth more then what they charge for. In my opinion, my mothers is better. But none the less it is really good! The menu is simple. The speed is fast considering the amount of food and time it takes to make it good. I will eat here again! I will also say that the smell will stick to your clothes so be careful.
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Went for lunch with a friend. Nice, simple menu that isn't overwhelming if you don't know the cuisine. The folks working obviously love to share the food and cuisine with guests- they just wanted you to enjoy the great food! Very welcoming and low pressure. Speedy service. Excited to try the dinner menu sometime!

Yelp
Ragsan has amazing food and customer service. I ordered beef curry with rice and Goat with Peta bread. While waiting for my food they gave me a sample of soup, it was great! I've never eaten goat meat, I'd say it's the best meat I've eaten from a restaurant and the curry was the best I've ever had. I went here outta curiosity, expecting this place to be a one and done but I will be coming back here every time I am in the FM area.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
This place is so amazing!!!!! I've never had Somali food before--soooo good and yummy! We are just passing through on our way to Maine but this restaurant made me want to take up residence in Fargo. I had a beef and rice dish, while my husband had chicken with bell peppers in a sauce. We were both pleased as punch! I highly, I highly recommend this place!

Dana S.

Yelp
Love their food, but tried to order online today (26 May 2019) through Bite Squad. After waiting 45 minutes, we were told they were not open, even though they are supposed to be open 9 am to 10:30 pm on Sundays. I understand tomorrow is Memorial Day, but I don't really see why any business would arbitrarily close the day *before* a holiday. At least notify your delivery service so your customers are not sitting around waiting for food that will never come. :(

Allison K.

Yelp
I'm American, but I love the foods of Eastern Africa. Dishes here are very flavorful and fresh. I cannot speak to what is "authentic" in African cooking (only what I like, and what I've eaten elsewhere), but I will say that, overall, I prefer the Somali place across the street. (This place is good, that place is better.) But I want both places to stay in business!!

Pepper H.

Yelp
Who knew Fargo would have a diverse food scene? The restaurant is a hole in the wall by massage envy. It is a diamond in the rough. Lots of different choices. Got the chicken and rice and it was chock full of wonderful moist chicken strips that were well flavored. The rice was excellent as well as the side salad. Had a vimento too which was different. It looks like a family run business and it is definitely a place id come back to.

Hanna M.

Yelp
So so good. Most delicious food I can remember eating in a restaurant. We had the kay-kay with chicken curry. We will definitely be back as much as possible. Very nice laid back atmosphere. You order at the counter and pay at the counter when you're done eating. You can grab whatever drinks you want from the cooler or order more food whenever you want. Very cozy neighborhood feel. The food tasted very rich and I was afraid I wouldn't feel well afterwards, but it didn't bother me at all. I didn't even feel like I'd overeaten even though I had.

Jatin P.

Yelp
Wonderful service got there on a Saturday before closing and they took care of us. Got the chicken and rice and it was REALLY good! Defo go back to try other items on the menu.

Atreyi G.

Yelp
Ordered goat meat and rice. Just one order was more than sufficient for two adults. Huge portion size, and the taste was awesome. The rice could be a little less oily, but overall tasted very good. We also got ingera on the side. I only wish there was some kind of gravy/curry type thingey to dip the ingera. Staff was courteous and friendly. I would definitely eat there again.
