Rumba Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"It’s time for a vacation. But you just spent all your money on almond butter at Whole Foods, so a tropical getaway is probably not in your near future. Make moves to Rumba, which is the next best thing—perfect for getting slightly tipsy with your friends over tropical small plates. Grab a booth amidst the bookcases full of island tchotchkes, order some classic daiquiris along with a round of empanadas. photo credit: Megan Rainwater" - Aimee Rizzo

Go for the rum punch and get some yummy food while you’re there. We’ve been many times and always start with the rum punch which is consistently delicious with a nice flavor, not too strong but not too weak. The chips with pimento cheese spread, and we add guacamole, are great! Fresh and tasty. I also like their tacos, they’re all yummy. Small cozy atmosphere, some tables have a view of the water. Servers are friendly, polite and attentive.

Have been here multiple times as a local. Went to the tequila and food pairing and it was outstanding. They have some truly amazing chefs that came up with some fabulous food dishes that should be featured as some of their main dishes. The Paloma they made was the best I have ever had. Perhaps it was the Tres Generaciones tequila they used, but it was absolute ridiculousness! Will be back!

Google
We had their duck empanadas, Mahi and grilled steak! I will rate the steak 10/10!! It was perfectly cooked and I like the yum that they paired it with. Cute place and friendly staffs too. I usually don’t like empanadas but rumbas duck empanadas is worth the try!

This place is amazing! Great place for brunch as well. Staff was attentive and the food was amazing! The wings are a must get, tacos are great and flavorful :)

We had our lunch at Rumba after we saw the exhibition at Parrish Art Museum. Their signature Dominican Ribs were appetizing and braised soft. We love both of our entrees and the roast cauliflower was amazing. It was grilled perfectly with a little burned on the surface and juicy inside.

Google
One of my 5 favorite restaurants out East! Delicious comfort food, beautiful views of the bay. A must when out there, and try the shrimp tacos and the chicken wings

Google
Even with the small restaurant they have. They still do a fantastic job keeping you satisfied while waiting for a table. We sat at the bar, had a few delicious cocktails, and also got the seared tuna appetizer, which is a must-have! Everything was delicious, fast, and fresh. The bartender was lovely and totally on it, even with a busy bar. Our waitress was also so lovely. Great staff, Great vibes, Great food. A must have stop if you can get a table.

Yelp
Absolutely everything about this place is perfect: location, food, service, drinks, vibe. I will say, the restaurant comes up fast so be aware that when you are driving by, you'll come up to it and then BAM, there it is haha. My friend and I got the coconut shrimp to start and the pieces were huge! So flavorful and crispy and the sauce was delicious. We shared tacos (taco Thursday!? Sign me up!) - a Brussels one, a shrimp one, and a fish one, and some coconut risotto and literally everything was divine. Only advice would be to grab a sweatshirt if you're sitting outside in the late afternoon!

Yelp
I am a fan! We were craving some food with flavor so on our way to Montauk, I asked my uber driver to pick us up in South Hampton, wait for me while I picked up the food we ordered in advance from Rumba. We could not wait to dig in so we asked permission to eat in the car from South Hampton to Montauk. He was such a great sport. My order was ready when I arrived and when I checked in on Yelp and noticed that I qualified for a Yelp discount and was able to get my bill adjusted because of the perk- Yay for being a Yelper! We ordered the Coconut shrimp Island Ribeye, which came with mashed sweet potato Side of Sweet Plantains Side of Island slaw Zen Garden Curry Veggies Our fave were the coconut shrimp and the island ribeye. The mashed sweet potato was a little strange. But those sweet plaintians were a hit. The slaw abs the curry veggies were not that great but decent enough as veggie options. Next time I hope to be able to actually dine in, enjoy the view, reggae music, and good service.

Yelp
This is a must go to place in the summer or when it is warm enough to be outside. The food is great, I always have the tacos. The drinks are great!

Yelp
Came here for dinner via the Cowfish to Rumba courtesy boat at the start of 4th of July weekend. Arriving here by boat is just so cool, and I still can't believe this boat ride is actually free. We'd made a 7 pm reservation for two but wanted to sit outside, which ended up resulting in a bit more of a wait. The hosts were apologetic and you could tell they were in the middle of dealing with a ton of chaos trying to get everyone seated after the happy hour rush cleared out. After about a half hour we were seated outside just in time to watch the sun set. The ambiance of this place is cool and Caribbean themed, as is the menu, which makes for a fun atmosphere since Rumba is situated on the water. This menu is a welcome change to anything else you'll find out here in the Hamptons. We started off with the Dominican Rib appetizer which was fall off the bone tender, a perfect mix of sweet and spicy. Next, we split the soy and sugar cane salmon which was perfectly cooked and paired impeccably with the coconut risotto and the Caribbean Mahi, served with amazing plantains. If you're in the Hampton Bays area and feel like you can't possibly look at another menu that's nothing but lobster rolls, this should be your next spot.

Yelp
Very satisfied with this restaurant! Drinks were great - I recommend getting the rum flight or the craft of rum punch! For apps, my friends and I started with the wings and the crab cake (special) - both were tasty! All our entrees were packed with flavor and every bite was delicious! Really cute vibes inside and if you want an amazing server, Tatiana was THE BEST. She was kind and on point with all of our orders/requests! Only one note if you are a Shrimp & Grits fan, the grits have corn in them! We were surprised, but it was still good. Definitely coming back again!

Yelp
Definitely a hot spot on a weekend! We came for a late dinner and the crowd was still going. Very fun vibes and a great menu. Loved the drink options, as well as the food menu. Creative cocktails and mocktails. Tasty and fun options for entrees. Duck empanadas were delicious (so much so we ordered a second round). Loved the tacos, and they were decent in size. Prices were fair for the area. Friendly staff and an overall nice evening out. Would definitely be back!

Yelp
Went here again, and as usual it was incredible! There was live music and the place had such a great energy in there. The staff was amazing as usual! I had the Dominican Ribs and they were falling off the bone and full of flavor! I recommend making a reservation as they get very busy.

Yelp
Rumba was on our radar for a while, after all we have read and heard here on Yelp. Well, we thought perhaps it was overrated (?). Not. Upon arrival, (and this is November, post summer peak season in the Hamptons) we find the place is packed and everyone is having a great time. We realized this is the place to be on a cold November Sunday late afternoon. We ordered: - Grilled Shrimp Salad - for moi - Breakfast Brunch Burger - for hubs , he was very very happy with his choice. - Plus, Caribbean Bellinis - amongst other island style beverages. To end our meal, we ordered their recommended Key Lime Pie. It was the best key Lime Pie North of the Florida Keys. And, Yes I have been there numerous times in my life. I know key lime pie. *** efficient staff *** ***outdoor dining during warmer months ** ***good tropical music (Reggae) *** Enjoy!! Yes, we will definitely return. Thank you for reading!

Yelp
Food choices are good Drinks at EXPENSIVE Views area phenomenal Loads of families so they're family friendly and that is A+ Parking us Valet don't be concerned when they park your expensive car onto of another car. Literally overlooking the water. Lines Can be long. On season it's too busy for us. The season started Early I guess... Was a bit overwhelmed with drink prices ... at bar

L C.

Yelp
Everything is great here. Shannon, our server, was wonderful as was the food. Very comfortable place w/ stunning water views. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Had a great brunch with my mom a few Sundays back. I had the shrimp and grits and my mom a breakfast specialty bowl. Also had the duck empanadas. Food and service were excellent and we had a great view of the bay as we ate and chatted. First time dining there and it was great. Bar and dining area set up With a great island vibe.

Yelp
My family and I were able to sit in the bus. It was pretty hot but still a cool experience. Food is priced well and was very tasty. I enjoyed the jerk chicken and coconut risotto meal. The staff were so friendly and accommodating.
google avatar

Yelp
The garlic Cesar is so heavy I got a stomach ache despite barely getting through half of it. They also do not honor the Yelp check in that's advertised (the 5% off coupon). The valet was nice but the rest of the staff looked pretty miserable/we're not warm to deal with. Friends seemed to think their tacos were ok, thus giving it a few stars but honestly would not go back.

Yelp
One of the last fun places to visit west of the canal, that is welcoming for visitors, shows people the water, and has good drinks, and food with a kick to it. Definitely have lost too many fun places on the water .. making way for vacation home owners and year rounders wanting quiet... This place tries hard and succeeds accommodating visitors - they have shuttles for parking so no one has to shlep blocks or get hassled for parking on the street... Fun times are still here.... Island inspired cuisine and drinks are reliably good. Best thing is to go outside on the deck and enjoy the outside... weather permitting.

Yelp
Beautiful vibe place! I love the outdoors bamboo look. They even have a nice back patio. Ordered: 1 Rasta Taco (Vegetarian) - super delicious. I would order more! 1 Fish Taco - Great flavors 1 Shrimp Taco - nicely seasoned shrimps inside 1 Sweet Potato Mash - very, very good. 1 Double Dip - the jalapeño cheese is recommendation to order. 1 Caribbean Rum Punch Carafe - the carafe tasted like juice and no alcohol, the waitress quickly corrected it and it was well made. My friends ordered the pork with coconut risotto - risotto was with it! The ribs were super moist and had a wonderful color to it. She devoured it. I would recommend this place for food and a good experience.

Yelp
Follow the music, and "Rhumba" your way over to Rumba, for cocktails that pack a punch, and dishes loaded with flavor. The amount of heat in the Mezcal Mango Chile Margarita was just right, and the Rocket Fuel was sweet and strong. My party of 3 enjoyed the tacos, Dominican Ribs, Chili-Rubbed Pork Tenderloin, and Salmon. Definitely check them out if you're in the Bays! And remember, if you're ever unsure of where to dine, and need some help, just turn to Yelp! We'll point you in the right direction:)

Yelp
Food was delicious, drinks were amazing. Definitely recommend the prickly pear margarita. Very GF accommodating! Super fresh and unique ingredient combos.

Yelp
The food and vibe was really good. They played some really good Spanish music and the food was so good. We started with the guacamole and chips which also brought a side of cheese as well. It was delicious. For our entrees I had the Dominican ribs with sweet potato mash and my girlfriend had the jerk chicken taco with a side of sweet plantains. The ribs were so flavorful and with the right amount of bbq sauce. The sweet potato mash was outstanding, I could have eaten a whole plate of them. My girlfriend enjoyed her taco but the sweet plantains were so good. We really liked this place, definitely a gem. The service was excellent, they took care of us immediately.

Yelp
Stopped at this gem while visiting Long Island. What a great beachie feel with a casual vibe. We sat outside and had a wonderful meal. I had the Mahi dish that was delicious. Service was great but expect to wait a bit for your food.

Yelp
Rumba never fails to disappoint me !! I sat right near the window and I was able to see the water outside. My server was great and attentive. She gave us recommendations on things we should try. I had the sweet heat margarita it was delicious probably one of the best margaritas I have had in a very long time. Everytime I come here I always order the same meal because it is AMAZING. I ordered the Grenada chicken. The chicken has the perfect amount of jerk seasoning on it. The chicken is spicy but the creamy coconut risotto balances it out perfectly. There is a sweet chili glaze that goes over top that gives the dish a nice kick. It is also served with a tomato confit which is my favorite. Definitely recommend this dish it is packed full of flavor and is so nicely balanced. My aunt got the salmon and she said it was delicious and had no complaints! Overall 5 star experience!! Con: parking is not the best here - there is only a small parking lot behind the restaurant. I came when there was no valet so I had to wait until someone pulled out of a spot which took about 10-15 minutes .

Dean L.

Yelp
Amazing food for about the fairest price you will find in the Hamptons for that quality food. They are a bit slow in service terms when cooking food, drink menu is great, food menu is great, mostly sea food. Overall menu is seafood centered and good. Amazing Caribbean ambiance, feels like you're at the Caribbean and I would know because I have been there. If you oh can afford 20-40 dollar meals and 5-25 dollar drinks then definitely go!
google avatar

Christiana M.

Yelp
Drinks were ok, we had the mai Tai and the rum punch. The food was also just ok - we had the dips (guac was very bland), Brussel sprouts, chicken and rice dish, tuna sandwich, and the ribeye. The rice in the chicken dish was very strange in both texture and flavor, very stodgy. The desserts were both good and if we were to return (we probably won't) we'd likely just stick to that. The service was fine. It was VERY loud and we were seated right next to the glass door which was VERY cold. Maybe a nice place for summer, being right on the water, but they could do with some heavy curtains or heaters for winter.
google avatar

Lauren J.

Yelp
Solid overall. Nice selection of rum. Food is decent. Right on the water although tough to get a boat in there as it gets very shallow. Nothing wows us here but it's overall good.

Yelp
Took an impromptu trip to escape the city and ended up in south Hamptons. After a long day with the puppy and excursion to the beautiful white sands of cooper beach we built up an appetite. Found Rumba and read the excellent reviews and boy this spot did not disappoint! Reservations were very easy for lunch and we ended up getting drinks as well. The sangria was amazing sweet and strong with fresh fruit on top served in large mason jar! I went with the shrimp/fish tacos and my girlfriend tried the tuna burger both of which were fresh, topped with chipotle mayo type sauce, ended with desert as well with the house special key lime pie (which perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and crunchy moist crust). All in all memorable experience would highly recommend!

Yelp
This is an absolutely amazing restaurant. They have so many unique dishes and drinks, plus amazing atmosphere! We loved everything we had! We got the Dominican ribs, soy and sugar salmon, and Thai curry cod. They were all SO flavorful and amazingly delicious. The sides like the coconut risotto and mashed sweet potato were also to die for. I also got a Passion Fruit Piña Colada which was sweet and delicious! The staff were very kind as well.

Kristen G.

Yelp
Worth a visit. Stopped for drinks and apps...the coconut shrimp is really amazing but you only get 3 shrimp for $17. They're good...but that's a little much. The wings are just awesome. Perfectly cooked, amazing sauce, plenty to share with the table. I WOULD NOT come back here if they sat me inside again. The food is good...but it's tough to sit inside with such beautiful views. We were told it was a 40 min wait and counted over 10 empty tables outside. Next time, I'll just wait for an outdoor seat. There is an outdoor spot by the water with chairs...if I couldn't get an outdoor table I'd recommend getting a to-go drink and just hanging out by the water. Worth a visit- don't sit inside on a nice day.

Yelp
Rumba is an absolute gem! The tropical ambiance instantly transports you to a vibrant island getaway. The food is fresh, flavorful, and bursting with Caribbean flair--everything from the ceviche to the jerk chicken is deliciously seasoned. The cocktails are inventive and perfectly crafted, especially the rum-based selections. The staff is friendly, attentive, and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. Whether you're out for a casual lunch or a special dinner, Rumba is a must-visit spot for anyone craving bold flavors and a relaxed, fun experience.

Yelp
5 stars for the desserts.  The hot fudge sundae and key lime pie were absolutely delicious. Expensive but very filling and big enough to share.  The view at the high top seating was great and the waitress was very nice. The entrees and apps though... terrible.   From the non-fresh tasting guac and chips to the $16 organic house salad, which had wilted greens, no candied pecans as stated and hardly any tomatoes or dressing.  The good thing was the salmon, which did not taste at all of the citrus soy it was named, but it was good fresh and perfectly cooked salmon.  This was ordered as part of the salad, making the salad $29.  The expensive entrees were overcooked-- the chicken and the sides.  The coconut risotto was way too liquid-y.   The grilled tomatoes on the side tasted of jalapeno/vinegar and so spicy they were inedible.    The fish tacos - awful breading/batter, oil that tasted and smelled bad.    Should have sent back but the tacos were only $7. Had no choice but to valet park and I the guys working that tight lot are impressive with their parking skills! Overpacked on a Monday in June.. Really expected the food to be better based on reviews.   The drinks (key lime pie martini and margarita!) looked great.   I say go for drinks and the 2 desserts!

Marilyn L.

Yelp
Maybe if our waiter was NICE! Besides this unfriendly waiter the food wasn't great , it was sucky . My hubby got the SPECIAL Burger as they put it was nothing but sub standard . I got the ribs , covered in a heavy sauce was just ok Honestly I was looking forward to lunch , because in the past the food was excellent . Not any more

Rosemarie D.

Yelp
The food was outstanding, creative and complex combinations. Servers were attentive. We were a party of 10 and we were seated in a refurbished decorated bus, with one large table. My mojito was the best I ever had. Looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Good experience but not quite 5-stars I was hoping for. Caribbean Mahi delicious- firm square of fish on bed of caramelized plantains in pool of coconut cream (that I'd kill to have recipe for) finished with avocado decoration. Tropical flavors is something my everyday life is missing & not so easy to come by in the restaurant landscape. Tried West Indies Breakfast Taco- pretty sure this is their sweet spot. Smokey rib meat, lime crema refreshing, soft taco nice firm texture. Shrimp Haiti had great peppery heat, but dish's other elements did not stand up well to spice. Appetizer Coconut Shrimp, c'mon 3 shrimp? Husband & I each had 1.5 shrimp of which I mainly got a bite of tail shell. We agreed mayonnaise-like horseradish dipping sauce did not seem like right compliment- a bit bold for tropical flavor & thick consistency meant spooning on top or losing shrimp & its jacket. Took Key Lime Pie & Tres Leche cake home. Hours later both were still very good. Seated on outdoor deck with beautiful view, but also somewhat forgotten about. A little more forgivable when indoors, not when sweating thirstily in sun. Tall chairs difficult to mount & ledge we ate off felt a little unkept. Agree with other reviewer, placemats. Didn't think inside was too appealing- place could use a little sprucing up.

Yelp
We had made brunch reservations and were here to celebrate a birthday in our group. We were seated right away on our large 7 people table and were attended by a server as soon as we were seated. This place has an amazing view, so I can see this place be an excellent setup on a sunny day. We ordered a couple of appetizers and entrees, and I ordered the veggie burger which was a house made quinoa, lentil, black bean burger. The first few bites went in easy, but as the burger got colder, I was struggling with every bite. The burger lacked flavor and the sauces weren't really helping elevating the taste either. Food was on the expensive side. Service however was excellent and they have a very friendly and welcoming staff. The place got really busy around 2 and there weren't many open tables.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food and attentive service! A fun array of taco selections and unique atmosphere!

Yelp
The atmosphere here is very happy and super noisy, even when less than half full. I had to remove my hearing aids. The staff are outstanding. The bar tender clearly loves her work and has bottomless energy and smiles! No draft beer. The food varied from incredibly delicious coconut huge shrimp to overpriced disappointing salad with boring jerk chicken. I like the valet parking because their parking lot is quite tiny. For those not put off by the very loud bouncing noise off all the reflective surfaces, this restaurant offers one of the best bars and wonderful views in the Hamptons, Not cheap, but well worth returning to! The last time I was here, the food was really excellent. Being consistent is what I like to see in a restaurant and this place needs some improvement in the kitchen.

Emily G.

Yelp
Service was very slow. It took about an hour to get our food. Upon being seated, a waiter dropped dishes under our table and flung a knife at my niece. There was no apology or effort to see if anyone was hurt or stained. There was water dripping on us through the ceiling the entire time we were there. The food was great! The ambiance was good, nice view, cute decorations. Bathrooms were tiny and dirty and there were flies in the stalls. There was no parking because the small lot was full. They had a shuttle that took us to a separate parking lot to park. The valets were the best employees on the site. Generally, I would probably just order to go next time. It took us over two hours to eat and get the check, 45 minutes of which did not include any refills of our drinks or server coming by at all. Had management reach out to me and offer me another chance to dine at Rumba. This time we are on the porch. It was perfect! Food was excellent and service was fast and friendly. I will be returning !
google avatar

Lisa E.

Yelp
If we lived closer, this would be our local favorite...it is just the perfect, happy place with excellent food and drinks all around. We have only been there off season, so I can imagine arriving in the summer and having a different experience. The service is doting, the setting is as if you were on a far away island, the Caribbean inspired menu is unique and the drinks just shine. We are eager to return for their Rum Punch Brunch. Tacos, Caribbean wings, duck empanadas, roasted sweet potatoes with pistachios and plantains are some of the items that we have enjoyed... Absolutely worth the hour or so drive from Nassau County.

Evelyn V.

Yelp
Great vibe and view. The staff was wonderful. Our server Brendan was great. We enjoyed our lunch outside while taking in the view of the bay. Coconut shrimp, Mexican corn and Chilaquiles were flavorful and plenty. The drinks were delicious too. Highly recommend this spot for brunch, lunch and dinner.

Yelp
It been a while since i reviewed this place 3 years ago but we've been back many times. Today I had had two of their signature tacos coconut chicken and the pulled pork both excellent, My wife had the Caribbean wings l, always a favorite. We used the bus (cant explain it you have to be there) this summer when our grandchildren were in, took the boat from Cowfish they had so much fun. Great food great atmosphere
google avatar

Doreen L.

Yelp
We come here every summer but I've seen an overall decline in quality and service. The food is mediocre at best. The tacos are extremely overpriced unless you come on their Taco Thursday. Happy hour is a good deal, but the bartenders must be instructed to water down drinks during these times. I had the worst margarita of my life here this past week. It was all sour mix and no tequila so basically undrinkable. The indoor area is mostly dark and cramped. The outside area is cute but it overlooks the parking lot and then you get a view of the water. This place is overhyped and only gets as crowded as it does because the options out here are limited.

Rachel A.

Yelp
WOW! All I can say is wow. Rarely do I say a meal is worth the exorbitant prices, but the food was DELICIOUS. I got the Grenada chicken and....YUM!!!! We also split the Key Lime Pie, which was topped with heavy cream and had a graham cracker crust. I rarely have key lime pie out of Florida, and this was a rare exception. Totally worth it. The drinks were ok--my raspberry mojito was a little seltzer-heavy, but my friend's pina colada was amazing. The vibes were great since you can overlook the water, and the aesthetic was chill/beachy. The staff was friendly, helpful, and overall really on top of it. I cannot recommend this place enough. HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
My husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Rumba for their food, drinks, and atmosphere but most of all because that was where we had our first date in July 2021!!! Yesterday was my birthday, so I made a reservation for us at 7:30pm. The hostess was very welcoming and the manager sat us immediately. We were excited that we got a table by the window, the same one we sat at for our anniversary last year. Everything was delicious: duck empanadas, ahi tuna salad, piña coladas on the rocks, and the mahi mahi with plantains. We both had to order the same entree because we knew it was so good we wouldn't want to share! We love to celebrate our special occasions there. The manager was so kind and treated us to drinks for our anniversary. Can't wait to go back soon and show all my friends/family how amazing Rumba is.

N D.

Yelp
Stopped by here with my wife for a pre-dinner cocktail and app. The staff was friendly and the place was nicely situated on the water marina. Weather wasn't great but if the sun was out, I'm sure would be a very nice view on their deck. Drinks were average, we had the fried plantains and they were ok, could have cooked longer to bring out more of the sweetness

John V.

Yelp
Rumba's food is always consistently delicious. They never disappoint and the service is excellent. I always enjoy going and the atmosphere is great.

Ilena F.

Yelp
What an awesome place.... the service was amazing. Ardis was our waitress.... she has such a positive attitude. I had the Brussel Sprouts and they were out of this world. I also had the coconut Shrimp and they were mouthwatering . My hubby had the salmon which was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming especially Ty the valet. We will be back soon as I highly recommend this restaurant..... you will NOT be disappointed

Brooklyn Girl N.

Yelp
Beyond a fabulous experience. Indoor dining, outdoor as well. On the waterway. The appetizers were an experience. The brewed coffee extremely good. The mussels were to die for. The not fussy , come as you are welcoming.grear staff but make reservations or go inbetween hours for quick resolve and a full belly

Yelp
Cute place w great drinks n tacos. There was over an hour wait so we ordered takeout n took the food n drink by the water. It was much better ambiance as if life styles of rich n famous. Shrimp tacos $5 each are delicious perfectly fried w diced Mango. The Margarita compliments the taco nicely. You can come by sea or by land. There parking n there's a dock slip for your jet ski or boat. The bathroom has great artwork for sale. Although I dont know if I want to buy artwork that's been hanging in the bathroom! Go visit this place, relax, have a drink. But don't drink n drive!

Yelp
Got in on the three tacos for $12 deal. They have a few tacos to choose from. I got 2 shrimp and one chicken. The toppings each one comes with compliments the protein very well. They also had a taco for vegetarians. It was very busy when we went so potentially expect a wait if you are coming during this deal. The classic margarita was perfect. I would come back to try more from their menu
