The Best Restaurants & Bars In Columbia City

"You might have driven past this West African place located in a strip mall before, not realizing that you’re actively missing out on fantastic Kenyan food. The food here includes an entire fried tilapia with coconut curry and flavorful kuku chicken thighs. No matter what, make sure you order plenty of crispy beef samosas and pilau (incredible spiced basmati rice) for the table." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Gotta come! Great variety of food. Occasionally they have a buffet so I drove down from Everett in the rain. Todays event was sponsored with food from Chop Chop of Kent. It happens last Sunday of every month. Rumba was packed for the special occasion.I felt most welcome. Organizer Kofi Tay from Chop Chop welcomed me. The Chop Chop co-owner and cashier Tierra was so welcoming. The servers Savior and Rejoice very generous. DJ Chris kept a lively mix of African fusion music. Family friendly with dancing kids. I'm going back for seconds especially fried fish, marinated eggs, noodles and beans with a smokey flavor. Warm sense of community around food and music. Come and enjoy new flavors in your life.

I didnt try much of the food, but this is a pretty cool spot. Stage and sound could use some work along with an updated menu, but this place and the people there are really cool. I had a good time playing a show there and really encourage people to check out the live music. I think there's an open jam/jazz night there...

I’m revising my review. I’ve been coming to Rumba Notes off and on for about 5 years now and each time I’ve attended I’ve had a great time! The food is soooo good! I had the chicken wings and beef samosas. I went on a Saturday and Tuesday. Saturday was live! The age range was 3-50, Lots of men! Lots of dancing and lots of the drinks, which were nice and strong!! Tuesday is live jazz from various artists that crowd is more mature with ages ranging from 40-70. There is plenty of seating and whether you’re going for live jazz and dancing the vibe is just right! I really the red light in the VIP area!

This place is always a chill time, zero drama and live entertainment. The Somosas are incredible.

The food is good. However, the atmosphere can be iffy due to the crowd. As a woman, I do not feel safe here. There are more men than women who go here, and I do feel like the male patrons are running the women off. They act as if they do not understand boundaries or NO! Everyone knows the owner. That's not a power move to get a woman to like you! Until the owner stops letting creeps in his establishment, there will continue to be a lack of women patrons. Also. Try having dinner specials. There is way too much space for the lounge to be empty on weekends even week nights! Something isn't working. That man dressed like a broke down Martin Luther King drunk in a trench coat with a 5th of vodka stumbling down the street every day keeps coming back scaring off the women with his nasty creepy behavior. Don't get me started on the other men who get mad when women turn down their advances that they think it's okay to drive around the parking lot stalking them! I won't be coming back here because I don't feel safe here.

Ordered 4 coronas and double shot vodka, the lady i think she must be the owner charges me $61. Me and my friends ask her how much one corona costs, she tells us $5, double shot vodka $16 so thats makes the total $36. Asked her why she charged us $61 she has the guts to say the rest is tax and tip. Thats robery without violence. Look at your tab when you go out drinking there!. Btw i was the designated driver so i was very sober!. I will dispute this charge with my bank.

Yelp
This is a review for the Tuesday Night Jazz Jam at Rumba Notes. Really fun event. You never know who might show up. I've been going pretty regularly and from time to time you'll see/hear some of Seattle's best musicians. If you've got the urge - definitely bring your axe or your best tune, show up, sign in and have a good time. If you like jazz, r&b and blues you'll be happy. Plenty of parking and a friendly crowd.

Yelp
I loved this place! The vibes were amazing and everyone was so nice and friendly. The music was great, the DJs know how to get people dancing. There were a bunch of local vendors selling their products too which I thought was awesome. Definitely a cool joint to have a few drinks and catch a live performance.

Yelp
Karaoke on Wednesdays. So far it is a short rotation. The owner is in the process of recustruction of events.

Yelp
ABSOLUTE TIME OF MY LIFE. Growing up from the Bay Area, music is in my roots. And im sorry Seattle, but the music played at most clubs just don't cut it for me. But Rumba Notes Lounge? Wow. The best RnB and Hiphop playing all night. I pulled out my phone multiple times to Shazam songs that were absolute bangers. On top of this, the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, where I feel like most places have bouncers/bartenders that are extremely impatient I'll be a regular here for sure. I can't wait to see how this place is in a post-COVID world

Yelp
Managed to somehow absent minded leave a laptop at Rumba on a Sunday night. Owner actually answered the phone on Monday morning and was nice enough to meet me at Rumba two hours later. Incredibly friendly and generous with his time, and turned what was a day of stress into a day of smiles. Now about the venue- friendly staff, great place to catch live music and jams. Looking forward to more great hangs!

Yelp
There just aren't a lot of Lounges left in Seattle. This one is a nice surprise. Live music and DJ nights. Intimate room. And great bartender you need to ask for: Pete. It's going on my list for private event space, receptions. Plenty of parking too, which these days is nearly impossible throughout the town.

Yelp
I've been to this place a couple of times for the live music and I've really enjoyed it. Lots of talented local performers, some just vibing on open mic. Last night they featured Klyntel and Thaddeus Turner's Thadillac. PHENOMENAL! They also have a DJ who played Old School R&B between sets both times I've gone. Rumba Notes is a great neighborhood 'jook joint' where you're likely to run into old friends. It's very casual and intimate, although they expanded the space since my last visit, which is nice. The drinks were okay. The bathroom situation is limited with long lines. And the parking lot is small, so plan to find street parking and walk to the venue unless you're a skilled open space stalker. :-)

Yelp
Went there for the first time last night. Wasnt too impressed in the beginning, but as the time went on it began to grow on me. The pros: The music is great and the people are friendly. The cons: I didnt see any food service, and the place was too little. The might also want to designate a smoking area so i dont have to walk trough all the smells when you go in

Yelp
If you want the out of the country experience, then this is a must visit place. I call it the after hour joint! I go to other clubs and come here around 1 AM. Usually, the DJ are amazing and able to blend back home music with some modern tunes. The drinks are decent prices. Everyone is nice. If you ever want to see some amazing African fashion and some of the most gorgeous women on earth, stop in, at the least, I'm always impress when it comes to Friday and Saturday. Wow! Even though you probably won't get any love unless you are African on the dance floor, but it is amazing to be in the mix.

Yelp
I love this place... Excellent service and you get to enjoy great music. The Dj is awesome and the live band is something to look forward to! I am coming back

Yelp
Can't actually give a reflection review YET, but real soon, haven't been inside as of yet. I drive by the "rumba notes lounge", daily.. But all I've heard from my dearest Seattlelites, is this place is awesome. Good vibe, warm atmosphere, live music, great dancing and just plain awesome, y'all stay tuned I'll let you know from a personal perspective...

Yelp
The lounge gets 100 percent in their support and hosting of local artists. If someone that draws a crowd go early to get a seat. There is a cover charge, usually about 8 dollars. The reason I did not rate higher is that the bar service neglects to serve any snacks or food, I mean none, and the sodas minus the alcohol are overpriced. Also the website is not kept current. I bring my own peanuts etc to enjoy with the drinks I purchase here.

Yelp
It was first my time at Rumba Notes lounge. Had a great time seeing Klyntel perform. They were amazing! The parking lot is small so get there early or be prepared to park on the street. The drinks were good.
