Went on a Sunday…second time trying this place! Rumba has dope music and the potential for a great atmosphere, the aesthetic of the place is refreshing with the lights and plants that line the walls and the modern vibe of the whole establishment is really nice…bonus for having clean open bathrooms as well. Another amazing point about this place is the music which they do very well…they could use better speakers for the outdoor sitting area but the song selection was on point! The problem for me is the food and service which is subpar at best. The menu could use an update both option wise and taste wise because there is not much to pic from even for a weekend specialty menu. Moreover, you would think that with such a small selection everything would taste amazing….however, that is definitely not the case. The guacamole is alright nothing note worthy. The wings, and jollof rice are pretty lackluster in preparation and flavor. I will say that the orange looking spicy sauce the wings come with is really good…tried to ask the name of the sauce and the waitress was clueless. (Hopefully y’all take note and make the sauces a flavor of wing somehow while also educating your servers on the menu) The chicken and waffles are also pretty basic in taste like you “should” have just made them at home especially considering the prices. The price should match the food or at least the flavor profile and it does not hit the mark. Regardless, like I said this place has so much potential so hopfully they kick it up a notch so we don’t lose this place…uptown needs a spot like this, but yall need to pick up the game! * drinks are decent I suppose but that shouldn’t be a challenge yall in uptown! *If I’m paying 17 dollars for 5 chicken wings then they better taste better Buffalo Wild Wings! *lose the flowers and glitz on the guacamole and add more guacamole, and maybe a more bountiful amount of chips for them! *the Jollof has been a bit “soggy” both times I been here and had it, find a new chef or recipe MN got plenty of aunties that can make Jollof! *the servers are cute at least….keep that up, but train them on customer service cause that’s what gonna get people! *prices on everything are to hefty for what your being served…again both drink and food wise!

After this visit, I'm convinced IG influencer are LYING!!! I was so excited to visit this place after seeing 3 of my favorite food influencer give this place 5 starts. My experience was far from 5 stars. My grandmother loves Mexican so I bought her for a celebration. The service was lacking! My grandma uses a walker and they sat us far from the door. The time it took to ask what we needed was crazy! Now don't get me wrong, this place looks so AMAZING! It seems made for Instagram! It is very photo shoot friendly. The food on the other hand is not good. I was looking forward to the salmon croquettes that all the influencers posted. They tasted like unflavored mush! The drinks were speedy and not so delicious. This is a place I don't see going back to any time soon.

Came here with a friend for Sunday Mimosa brunch and had an amazing time! The staff were attentive and so genuinely sweet, the ambiance beautiful with greenery, art work and culture, and the DJ spinning vibes on point! We ordered the mimosa flight and shrimp ceviche -- everything was delicious, and not over priced. We had so much fun, and literally nothing to complain about. We will definitely be back! I lived in New York City for years, and I am thrilled to find a little corner celebrating Afro-Latin culture in Minneapolis!

Great Colombian food!!! It’s what mpls needed, to get Colombia on the map here in MN. Cost for food a little pricey but I think it’s worth it, if you like passion fruit flavored things this is your spot. Recommend to anyone trying to expand their global palate!

The Afrobrunch day parties on Sundays are truly enchanting. The venue never fails to impress, with amazing food, great music, and beautiful people. If you're ever in town, it's the perfect spot for brunch and daytime partying, always giving off a vacation-like atmosphere.

Everything was good except the pricing. They have a $20 cover and drinks that were extremely overpriced compared to other bars in the area. They definitely have some of the best interior design and decorations out of any bar/club in the area, but Uptown isn’t in high enough demand to be charging those kinds of prices anymore.

Rumba has a great atmosphere, latin inspired - lights line the walls and music plays at a mid level tone, giving off a modern vibe that reminds me of restaurants I've hit during my travels through Mexico and South America. The food was delicious: the guacamole is a must try. I had the pork chop bedded on a puree of sweet potatoes, and I went ahead and tried several dishes that were ordered by those with me, each layered with complementing flavors. We ended it off with the pastel de elote for dessert which we all enjoyed. The cocktails were inventive: some nuanced and others bursting with flavor. The owner stopped by and briefly spoke of the work he put in to opening the place. I respect the hell out of the effort, and the passion shows in the results. Later that night I came back for the opening party. The place was packed. A dj was set up beneath a large visual display, and the music sounded over the dancefloor. We danced and drank until close. Try this place out, either to dine in and taste the creative mix of ingredients, or to dance and enjoy the revival of uptown nightlife

I felt compelled to leave a review because the 2.9 star rating was unexpected and not representative of our experience. We made reservations for 8:30PM on a Saturday on the day of. We were sat down near the live band and had an AMAZING server. I forgot her name, but it started with an A. We asked for recommendations and her options did not disappoint. She was also knowledgeable with the drinks and checked in on us every once in a while. As time was approaching 10PM, they did inform us that they were converting into a dance floor, cut food menu to only sushi, and remove their special cocktail menu to just “bar drinks.” We were understanding since this is typical of restaurant/club fusion locations that remain open during the transition process, so we did not see this as an issue. The food was delicious. I will agree with other reviews saying the portions are a bit smaller than expected, but the taste is amazing - EXCEPT the sushi. I would avoid the sushi in my opinion as it was nothing special and it was too much rice. However for the Latin-inspired food, if you want the same taste and bigger portions, I’d say go to their other restaurant Iconos on Lyndale Ave. I can’t speak on the security since we made it in before that process began. However, our server was amazing, the hostess was as well. Also the barbacks were constantly clearing our tables. And of course, the atmosphere, decor, music, were all top notch. I’m looking forward to seeing how this place evolves over time as they just opened in an area that seriously needed a Latin venue.
