Every time I come here, I really want to like it because the ambience is fantastic. There's just something about the vibe that makes it inviting. However, I always find myself feeling let down by the food and drinks, as they never quite hit the mark for me.
Tonight, I ordered the posole and a margarita. The margarita was fine, but I was thrown off by the salt being placed on the lemon wedge used for garnish rather than on the rim of the glass. I really would have preferred it to be on the rim, or at least around part of it, to enhance the drink.
As for the posole, it's definitely not the typical version you'd expect around here. I'm all for trying new foods from different regions, but this one just didn't work for me. The broth was almost non-existent, and I was surprised by the purée placed on top of the four slices of pork belly on the side. While the pork belly itself was exceptional--rich, tender, and perfectly cooked--I wasn't a fan of the sauce that accompanied it. It felt unnecessary and didn't complement the dish as I had hoped.
That said, the ambience was once again top-notch. It was a chilly night, but the heaters were strategically placed, ensuring I was never uncomfortable. The lighting created a warm, cozy atmosphere, and the crowd was lively, full of laughter and good energy, which made the experience enjoyable despite my food misgivings.
Will I return? Yes, likely. I'll probably come in with the same expectation I always have: to enjoy the setting, but with a little expectation to enjoy my meal and also pay a hefty bill.
