"COVID-19 update: Open for socially distant hiking although restrooms may be closed.
In addition to the great workout, this hike provides some of the best views in LA. There are a few different trails to choose from (depending on how hard you want to work) and since this is one of the most popular hikes in LA, you're bound to have some company. Reward yourself with a healthy, vegan lunch to-go afterward at nearby Café Gratitude, or, you know, grab a cone at Scoops.

I conquered Runyon. It's in a beautiful location with excellent views, it's a tough hike and you'll get a fantastic workout.

Beautiful sunrise at the (almost) top of this gorgeous trail. Great birdsong accompanied the hike. Few people between 5:30-6:30am. Bring water and get ready for an outdoor stair-stepper experience!
Also, there is an honor system water and snack box at the entrance incase you forget your own.

This hike was a lot tougher than I thought it would be! I’m a beginner, and I’ve done the Fryman Canyon trail several times. This was much harder!
I took the loop from West to East which meant that the hardest parts were uphill, thankfully! The incline was pretty steep in parts with sand, rocks and gravel. Not gonna lie, I was a bit scared. And so were some other people I encountered that were also doing the trail for the first time.
Getting to the top, was so worth it. The views were unbelievable! And heading down, there were stairs, which made it easier.
Make sure you have good trail shoes for this! :)
