SNAP Cuts Could Be Disastrous for Alaska | Eater

"A community action agency focused on alleviating rural poverty warns that proposed SNAP work requirements—such as a 20‑hour weekly mandate—are unrealistic in many villages with chronically high unemployment (examples cited include communities with rates near or above 19–20%); leaders note that SNAP also underpins local economies (remote grocers can earn up to 40% of profits from SNAP shoppers) and say that, while alternative projects like hydroponic farming are being explored, SNAP remains essential for survival in the short term." - Jody Ellis

They have housing for individuals. They debug your clothing when you come from brother Francis they treat you with prejudice. I have had my mail opened by some of the staff they are looking at me like there's gonna be a package with a bomb in it. They do have transportation to movies, grocery store, doctors office. Staff standards are like a communist 3rd world country. There's this guy named Shawn who checks your room sometimes but he wears his pants like a gangsta rapper and its his underwear can be seen around the meat line of his butt. Then they check your room every Wednesday. You have to answer 2 hours worth of questions for your mailbox key or they will hold your key and you have to ask them for it. Then it's a staff member Doreen at 325 e 3rd that hands you your mailbox key like you've got a disease. Then when it snows sometimes they don't shovel the walkway to the garbage right away. I feel like I'm being surveillanced inside these walls. The Hispanic janitor is disrespectful sometimes. Sometimes doesn't come to work. Doreen closes the door on me when I try to get my belonging.they give you 10-15 days. Then then they throw your stuff in the garbage. Then if people die they sort through it and it to clients. then they kick you out dont give you any leeway time pack all your stuff up and throw it in the garbage bin. come to a place where you think youve found stability and start saying hi to you . then they tell other clients all your budiness they told me about someo f the other clients how they need to be in foster homes. then the stove has a timer on it and if you dont waljk past it turns off. heather did try to help me clean my room and she said ma friend
