"Another Portland institution joined the list of closures over the New Year, as Russell Street Barbecue closed the doors on both of its locations on Monday, December 30. The Oregonian first reported the news, citing bankruptcy as the reason for closing. Co-owners Diane Santucci and Sharon Senter Santucci opened the shop on NE Russell and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard 16 years ago, offering platers of tender brisket and smoky sausage long before Portland was even considered a contender for good barbecue. In 2017 the restaurant expanded, opening a new location on SE Belmont Street. On December 30, 2019, the team posted to Facebook, writing, “After 16 amazing years we have closed or [sic] doors. It was an honor to fill your bellies!” Though the public post doesn’t cite a reason for the closing, the Oregonian confirmed that the restaurant group filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Monday. Employees, some of who had worked at the restaurant for over a decade, told the paper that while the closing was a shock, they were confident they would receive any unpaid wages." - Alex Frane

There were six people in our party and we all loved this place. It had a really great atmoshphere and I enjoyed listening to the Blues. Beer selection was great and the party enjoyed it. I should have looked at their cocktail menu better, but I ordered the Bridge-Town Manhattan and I was disappointed. I'm a Manhattan type of person, but this was really sweet.

As a born and bred Texan, I am picky about my barbecue. I stopped in at Russell St on a business trip and I was blown away by the quality of their food. Their classic sauce is one of the best I've had. Their brisket was mouth watering and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were creamy and fluffy; the Mac and cheese was generous. I finished my plate and just when I thought it couldn't get better..... They brought me my "deep fried pie" with chocolate hazelnut filling. Holy cow. Game changer. I love this place. Definitely returning.

Excellent BBQ place. This place does not get enough credit compared to other places yet I would say it is one of the best BBQ I've had in Portland, better than podnah. Their sides were also very tasty and their sauces are excellent. Overall would definitely go there when craving BBQ. Also there's parking in the back of street parking is a problem!

We thought it was ok but over priced for what you get. At first we were seated at a broken table so we asked to move. They thanked us for pointing it out however keep trying to put people there even though there were plenty of other tables open. The waitress messed up my order twice (making excuses she didn't hear me say "that" even though everyone at the table heard my requests). Most of the items we had were just ok however the meaty bbq beans and cornbread muffins were extremely dry and tasted like they had sat out all day. We won't be going back.

Had the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs with beans and candied yams. Some of the best BBQ I've eaten. Ribs were juicy and tender and the sauced complimented everything very well. 10/10 would BBQ again.

Omg what can I say about this place other than you have to go here. There was a local event happening and we had to wait over an hour and a half to get seated because it was so crowded. We almost left but really wanted BBQ so we stuck it out - it was worth the wait. The food was so good and juicy. The staff was great. If you’re in the area this is a must eat place.

Solid BBQ with amazing cocktails and chill vibes. If you can, come a bit earlier for dinner and if it’s sunny, enjoy the tasty BBQ outside 🤓

First time there and it was really good! I got the bbq chicken sandwich. The bread/ bun was so delicious! The sides are $3 extra, I got mashed potatoes and it comes with white gravy, it was worth $3.
