The Best Brunch Spots In San Diego - San Diego - The Infatuation

"Rustic Root does hearty and well-executed southern dishes (think bourbon-glazed pancakes) alongside California brunch staples, like excellent chilaquiles that have just a whisper of heat in their salsa verde. We also go for the banana pancake parfait, which is airy, mildly sweet banana mousse layered over mini buttermilk pancakes and topped with fresh berries. The dining room’s clashing plaid printed walls and floral tile is chaotic, but fun to take in over blood orange sangrias or the dirty cola (whiskey and oat milk), while there’s also a covered, outdoor patio if your dog is your plus one." - candice woo, cora lee, ligaya malones

Rustic Root is a stylish spot with a great atmosphere and excellent service. We stopped by for brunch and had a fantastic experience. I ordered the smash burger, my husband had the biscuits and gravy, and my friend got the chicken and waffles—everything was delicious. Our cocktails were also top-notch. Despite not having a reservation, the wait was only about 20 minutes, and there was plenty of parking, which was a big plus. The manager even stopped by to check in and see if we needed anything, which was a nice touch. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely return next time we're in town!

Google
I had a great brunch at Rustic Root in Solana Beach with the gals! The restaurant is spacious, from the indoor dining area to the outdoor space, and we were lucky to have a table at the back, perfect for our big group of 20! The food and beverages were appetizing, beautifully presented, and offered a lot of variety. I only got to try the burger with yummy fries, but there’s so much more on the menu that I’d love to try next time! The service was fantastic, the staff was super attentive, always checking in to see if we needed anything. The only funny part was that the bathroom is outside, but overall, the place was worth it for us! Definitely a nice spot to check out for brunch.

Google
My wife a I went for our 18th wedding anniversary!!! The burger was amazing. Brisket with the ground beef was an excellent combo. The fries were hot and crispy with the perfect amount of Parmesan and herbs. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The sauce it came with and the kale were delicious. The beet salad was good. The bacon Mac n cheese was all time. The staff is kind and helpful. Overall it was a terrific experience and we will for sure be back.

Google
I wish I could give a higher rating, but too many mistakes were made. First, the atmosphere is cool and bar and whole restaurant was very busy. We ordered our drinks and the crab cakes, but the app came in less than 5 mins b4 we got 1st drinks. The vodka soda that was ordered was tonic instead. For dinner, my husband got the pork chop which he enjoyed, but my seabass was overcooked and dry. I'd try again but not on a Fri or Sat night, so it wouldn't be so loud and busy.

Google
The new Rustic Root location- Solana Beach is a a great new option in SB! Great outdoor bar, Happy Hour is solid but it (understandably) gets slammed. Oysters, cheeseburger, scallops (perfect amount of spice) and fries were definitely on point.

Brandon N.

Google
Brussel sprouts were undercooked and not seasoned enough. Pork belly appetizer also was lacking seasoning. The smash burger was solid but not all the different from the one I got at Shake Shack for half the price. The food is not bad, but for the price (and the other available options) the value is low here. I will say the atmosphere is fun and staff were super nice but this is more a commentary on the food quality itself.

Chad D.

Google
I recently attended a corporate event here and was genuinely impressed. The space offers a unique, energetic atmosphere that still feels polished and professional—perfect for business gatherings. The staff handled the large group seamlessly with outstanding service and attention to detail. If you’re looking for a venue for company parties, networking mixers, or corporate events, this place is an excellent choice.

Google
They have weekend happy hour! 5 stars for that alone, kidding kidding. Stopped in on a Sunday, tried 2 glasses of their featured wine (a red blend and a Pinot Grigio). Also tried two items from happy hour, the mini crab cakes and the meatballs with mashed potatoes. Both were excellent and flavorful. The inside/outside bar is great to sit at on a nice day for people watching.

Tim S.

Yelp
Robert was wonderful. Great cocktails alone were great but the conversation elevated the experience. And Tatiana pitches in and brought even more fun and tasty drinks. We are so grateful!

Brad T.

Yelp
Rob is the best bartender! Food was amazing and drinks were 2nd to none! Will be back!

Yelp
This review only covers Happy Hour. Great outdoor space on the corner of 101 and Dahlia with lots of stools along the bar as well as facing out, and no shortage of overhead heat for cool evenings. Lots of drink specials as well as apps available. We have been twice for HH. We tried to go for dinner this past Friday, but they were closed for a private event - should have checked that before walking over. We expect to be back for dinner with another couple later this week.

Yelp
Ambiance was great, we enjoyed the drinks and appetizers. My actual entree was ok (sadly). I ordered the pork chop, not a dish I would typically get, it was already cut for me which seems strange and overcooked/ chewy. I didn't want to complain or send it back. The other thing that interested me about the dish was the creamed spinach. It was fine but not as good as what you'd typically get at steakhouses. My boyfriend ordered the pot pie. I had a bite and it was good. The appetizers were better. We shared Brussels sprouts, the wagu meatball, and buttermilk biscuits. We also shared dessert, the chocolate pot which was great and bread pudding. Our server was attentive. I don't went to provide names but didn't feel like they understood the wine list or drank wine. Was recommending wine and said all the red wine was "heavy" when we asked what the lightest red was. Between us we all had drinks, cocktails, red wine, white wine and bubbles. I'd consider going back but wouldn't be my first choice. Prices were decent at least take would try ordering something else.

Yelp
Atmosphere is great but the food, at meat the Bolognese was over spiced. The meatloaf is good, not great but hey meatloaf is a comfort food first and foremost and it is comforting. There are likely better choices and for the price I'd say this is a skip.

Yelp
I was really happy to hear Rustic Root (RR) was coming to North County. Ever since I went to their Gaslamp location, I've been a HUGE FAN. I made it a point to attend their grand opening back in January. Despite the large crowd there, I still had a fun time celebrating this NEW location. I did notice however the bathrooms are outside which is uniquely different. Since they opened, it's been the hottt spot in Solana Beach. RR was definitely a perrrfect addition to the Coastal scene. It's my go-to for Happy Hour. When I'm in the house, the staff are always super friendly and drinks/food consistently greaaat - a TRUE neighborhood vibe for sure.

Yelp
Visited on a weeknight around 6pr 7pm. Kind of an older crowd vibe to me. Nice seating inside and patio appeared dog friendly. Bartender was nice and the place was crowded. Had a tasty beer and ordered the crab cakes. They were described as a good snack size.... Yup. Quite small and snacky. They had a spicy Kick to them. Probably wouldn't visit again though. Overall 4 stars for the upscale vibe and ambiance. But a little too foofy for me.

Yelp
Our group reserved a table on a hoppin' Wednesday night. The place looked great and the service was excellent. The description of the "special" sea bass sounded good, and I ordered it, even though they were out of bass and subbed in trout. The sauce and olive/cherry tomato mixture was really good. The sea bass would have been better for my taste buds, but the trout was enjoyable. I think sea bass costs more than trout, but the cost of the dish somehow stayed the same. I tasted the wild boar bolognese and it was very good. The smashburger looked excellent as well.

Yelp
Now this place has a cool and fun vibe, and is ALWAYS jumping! Lotsa people, flowing cocktails, and amazing dishes. We walk there but there's plenty of parking in the nearby garage. Our absolute favorite dishes are the Wild Boar bolognese (I know it sounds scary, but believe me you'll be thanking me later!), the Lobster Tagliatelle (big chunks of tender lobster), and the Chicken Pot Pie (one of there best we've had in a long time). Always looking forward to going there. See you soon!!

Yelp
I really love this Rustic Root location. I never have any trouble finding parking and best of all very dog friendly. Came here for their restaurant week - where it's 3 courses for $39 (excluding tax + tips of course). For 1st Course - I picked their mini maryland style crab cakes and there was nothing mini about them! It was a decent size and there were 2 pieces. Had a good amount of crab and the tartar sauce with the small herb salad really paired well together. 4/5 For 2nd Course - I got the Chicken Pot Pie. Presentation was beautiful it came in a small mini cast iron pot with a biscuit on top. The side salad was in its own mini cast iron pot. Chicken Pot Pie can be heavy so the side salad was much needed. Chicken Pot Pie was good, but nothing that wow'ed me. 3.5/5 For 3rd Course - Unlike their downtown location, the Solana Beach location had a choice of Banana pudding or Gelato from Bobbi's. It was a tough choice, but had to pick the banana pudding. Absolutely delicious and great wait to end the meal. 5/5 Whoever did the portion for these deserve an award. I was 'perfectly' full and really think it was worth the price. There was also live music that night and just made it even more special for our date night.

Yelp
I wasn't planning on writing a review but after 15 minutes it was apparent that this staff deserved recognition for their fast and friendly service ! The mixologist (Grayson) was so casually welcoming ( def a vibe ) .He gave me his favorite two dishes and I chose the boar bolognese .. the taste and perfect al dente pasta with a kick of light spice paired with the red blend from Portugal was a perfect match that fed my soul. The bar wraps around and has plenty of seating however there is outdoor seating at tables for a more intimate experience. Dont be surprised when Justin welcomes you the minute you step off the sidewalk into the restaurant.. All around a great dinner and wine with great service after 8:30 pm when other restaurant servers just want to go home . A+ and 4.8stars Thank you to Rustic Root !! Did I mention they are dog friendly and have bowls for their furry patrons too

Yelp
Super cute place with a great vibe. Staff was attentive and helpful. Took a star off bc one meal wasn't good and I had a bug in my cocktail that when I pulled it out was FILLED WITH BLOOD. Then my replacement drink wasn't full which was annoying. The bad meal was the steak tips. I asked how they were cooked and they said medium. They came out WELL DONE. like past the point of edible. I sent them back and the next set came out a little less cooked, but still very very well done. Also the taste was not great. And when you're paying that much money, I think that it should be tasty. Onto the Goode. My youngest child got the kids chicken tenders. They were more than adequate and served on top of a frisbee, which was very exciting for him. The server even offered to clean off the frisbee and let him take it home afterwards, which led to him eating his whole meal. The fried chicken dinner I didn't get to taste because it was someone else's but she said it was amazing. It did look very succulent after she had taken a few bites. I loved the cream corn. It tasted just like when I could make it home except better. Yummy yummy yummy . I got the pot pie and it was delicious. It came with a side of dressed salad, but the salad chunks were way too big and there wasn't enough dressing on it so I didn't need that. But the texture of the pot pie with the biscuit and the seasoning was delicious. I wish it was bigger because I could've eaten two of them . This is not the place that you would think to go for a chicken pot pie, but I'm coming back again 100%. Other meal we got was the wild boar Bolognese. It was a large plate with very chunky sauce and thick penne type noodles. Actually, they were probably like a rigatoni noodle. Either way it was phenomenal. Not even the least bit gamey with amazing seasoning. I see when this is a very popular dish because it was hot and flavorful and different . I wish they gave you a piece of bread or something because at the end there was a lot of the chunky meaty sauce left over and no way to scoop it up. We were too full, so we did not get any dessert, but the menu did have some really good looking options on it. Overall, there are certainly some things I would go back and try again. Would be a super cute place for a date night as well.

Yelp
Came here for a friends birthday and the atmosphere is very San Diego. Super chill, not too loud, close to the water. Perfect. Our waitress was amazing and very helpful. Got some great recommendations. The breakfast was pretty decent, fun little spin on chilaquiles, my only complaint would be when adding chicken for $8, I'd like more than a nugget of it.

Yelp
Rustic Root is such a gem! The cozy vibe makes it the perfect spot to settle in for dinner or happy hour, and the fact that it's dog friendly makes it even better. The food is consistently excellent--some of the standouts for us have been the wild boar bolognese, chicken pot pie, burger, penne a la vodka, cornbread, and fries. Each dish feels comforting yet elevated, with flavors that really shine. Their skinny margarita is one of the best around, and they also have an incredible wine list with options to pair beautifully with any meal. Service is always friendly and attentive, which keeps us coming back. Rustic Root really delivers on both food and atmosphere--it's a place you can count on for a great experience every time.

Yelp
There's some intelligent life here in the kitchen and the bar! I thought this might be a boring elevated comfort food menu that was all about people watching in a buzzy atmosphere. But some of the food and drinks were very unique! Indecent Exposure cocktail: not for the faint hearted! I'd like to meet the bartender who came up with this lol. Mezcal + yellow chartreuse + aperol + lime + orgeat. Very unusual combination of flavors. I actually loved the challenge (!) of the flavor combo - each sip was a little overwhelming to have smoky mezcal + sweet/bitter aperol + sweet/nutty orgeat + tart lime (I don't know what the chartreuse tastes like to pick it out). The drink was small and not as strong as I expected - I had barely a buzz after. BUT it was a flavor adventure for a cocktail lover, so I approve! (maybe just make it a bit bigger?) Cornbread: a little dry on its own, but it's covered in butter and blueberries. When you let the butter sink in it gets moister and tasiter. They did not have a lot of vegetarian options - only in the apps category and then just one in the mains (penne vodka). I wanted something lighter than pasta after the cornbread so I got the tomato burrata "salad." I think shareable app would be a better description - it's huge and extremely flavorful - but it's a lot of tomato acid (tomatoes lots of different ways) and oil, a little rich to eat all by yourself. The grilled bread it came with was super delicious. Dessert was reasonable - only $9 for a pot de crème when some buzzy restaurants might charge $15. The texture was great and it wasn't bad - it just was a little muted as far as chocolate goes. For something that rich, I wanted to be saying "mmmm!" after each bite. But the pot de crème didn't have that much flavor. Maybe a better chocolate or some vanilla extract or something would punch it up. Will was our server and extremely nice. The heaters work really well on this patio (too well, in the summer - don't dress like you're going to a rooftop in La Jolla!). We enjoyed our visit a lot, but I'd like to see some more vegetarian entree choices before I rush back. The cocktail was a lot of fun, can't remember the last time I had something so quirky and interesting!

Yelp
Returned for dinner and our experience was very different from our first visit for brunch. Server was very pleasant, but was easily confused and got many things mixed up including who was allergic to what and forgetting to put in our order for appetizers. She kept saying it was on its way, and after the entrees were served, realized her mistake. Delivering the food was another mixup, with several getting the wrong sides. Asked for balsamic salad dressing and got a dish of vinegar. Food quality was mixed. Fried chicken was very good, but steak tips were chewy and overdone, even though we requested medium. Almost unedible. Salmon was good and a generous portion. Salads were mediocre. This was half price night for their reserve list of wines, but the list was shockingly poor, especially from a reputable restaurant group. The three reserve whites were all chardonnays and the red reserves were mediocre super market wines. Few, if any, of these wines would be considered reserve in most restaurants. It really is not that hard to create a good wine list. There is no contact for the restaurant on their website, but I found a company email in a reply to one of reviews below. I sent a detailed note explaining our experience, but never received a response. Lastly, in their description on Open Table, they say they are a 1-minute walk from the Solana Beach Amtrak station. It's 0.4 miles and about a 10 minute walk. As a local, I hope they get their act together, but the wide range of ratings seem to indicate it's a hit or miss depending on your server and what you order. And the lack of any response from them says they don't value our opinions. 3-1/2 stars

Yelp
We can't say enough about the excellent service. Pre-show dinner and our waiter made sure the order went right in and serves quickly. The chef came out to assure us the meatballs were gluten free. Definitely will be back

Yelp
Service was great! We made dinner reservations knowing this place gets busy. Parking is available in SandBox Garage located behind the restaurant on Dahlia Street. The architectural design and decor of the restaurant is something to be admired. Bathroom facility are located outside of the building and a passcode for entry can be acquired from staff. I had a glass of Moet Chandon. My husband had a Coors Light. My friends and partner enjoyed their food. I found my husband's Mac and Cheese delicious! For dessert we ordered a cookie skillet that comes with ice cream. We requested the ice cream on the side. Unfortunately the cookie was soft and underbaked in the middle. The staff quickly made up for it by removing it from the bill. We also ordered a sundae cart. The strawberries and banana topping on the sundae were delicious and it paired really well with cookies and cream! Overall the staff were super accommodating and we all had a great dinner.

Yelp
I hosted brunch with my MeetUp Fun Diego Ladies. I ordered the garden egg white frittata and really enjoyed my dish. I liked how it came with a side salad. My meal was tasty and healthy. I also had a small piece of biscuit, which was amazing! The restaurant was beautifully decorated. One thing I didn't like was the draft. The front and side entrances were open, so there were strong drafts and cross winds. I wouldn't recommend coming here on a cold and windy day. It's perfect for a warmer day though. The service was good. Our server made sure our water glasses were adequately filled. They have a great happy hour menu that I want to check out one of these days!

Yelp
Cool place for happy hour or brunch on the weekend. My faves are the chicken pot pie, fried chicken, and the smash burger. The sundae is also yummy.

Yelp
Went during restaurant week so we got to taste some of the specials . The crab cakes was delicious. Everything tasted great and we had leftovers to go. The only issue is the porkchop I wish was cooked more. The banana pudding was my favorite . Service was great and ambiance was cool . Parking was easy .

Yelp
I went to this location during a weekday very busy and completely booked It is new, modern, nicely decorated I have been in the one down town and was looking to this one The service was not bad Food was ok and not as impressive as I had in the downtown location Restroom is located outside the restaurant with a code which I was not a big fan of the concept Overall was ok Will I come back ? probably not Parking was street parking was not bad during weeekday not sure about the weekend

Yelp
Love the vibe of the restaurant, especially the indoor/outdoor feel at the bar. Robert the bartender and his fellow bartenders were all super kind, attentive and helpful, outstanding service for sure. Weds they had half off reserve bottles of wine so that was a win. We got the pork chop and filet. I think the food is a 3.75, my filet was cooked perfectly but it lacked flavor especially with the sauce and even the mashed potatoes were a little bland. The pork chop was juicy, but again the sauce was underwhelming. The mini cookie skillet for dessert was tasty. but tasted more like cake than a cookie texture wise. Overall Service is a 5, food is a 3.5-3.75 and ambiance is a solid 4.5. Id come back but order different things.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
We almost didn't come here due to the 3.9 stars, but we drove by and the curb appeal was . Beautifully decorated and inviting, and a super nice outdoor space. The happy hour was a great deal, the food was surprisingly flavorful and tasty, and the service was really good. We have two little ones and they shared one kids menu item with plenty to spare. They even subbed the French fries for a perfect bowl of fresh fruit. I'd give it a 4.7 and we would definitely come here again!

Yelp
This location is sooo cute! In the heart of solana beach, I love that they have free parking in the parking garage below the restaurant. I came here for a bridal shower brunch, and the staff made it a really good experience. We got little yogurt parfaits and delicious biscuits to start, a champagne board with different juices and droppers with raspberry, peach and blueberry juices to drop in - such a good idea & adds a fun element to making your own drink. I had the smashburger and it was great! No add-ons were included - just onions and cheese. It felt like a classic & slightly elevated McDonald's burger with more meat & I was very satisfied with it!! Next time, I'll ask for some aioli on the side :) Great experience, would definitely come back here!

Yelp
I've been to Rustic Root's downtown location a handful of times and always had a solid experience, so I was excited to check out their Solana Beach location for the first time. Unfortunately, the service here really missed the mark. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. We sat at the outside bar with our dog and used the QR code to order--standard setup these days. It wasn't busy at all, but the lack of attentiveness from staff gave me the ick. We ended up eating quickly and heading out. Happy Hour Highlights: Mini Maryland Style Crab Cakes ($12): Meh. Not bad, but I wouldn't order them again. Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich ($12): This was great, definitely a must try. Rustic Smashburger ($12): Solid choice. I'd re-order. Idaho Parmesan Fries ($6): Crispy and flavorful. A re-order for sure. The space is nice, they offer a dog food menu (which is a great touch), happy hour deals, and there's a free parking garage next door--big plus. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the SB location, but because I've had better experiences downtown, I'm willing to give it another shot. Hopefully the service improves next time.

Yelp
What a gem in Solana Beach! We had the BEST brunch at Rustic Root. We went on a Sunday and all the tables were booked, but we were able to get a seat at the bar. We ordered through the QR code. The the vibe was absolutely on point and the food was so good! We ordered the pot roast, French toast sticks, bloody Marys, strawberry matcha, and the biscuits -- and let me tell you, not a single bite disappointed. The pot roast was rich and tender, the biscuits were perfection and the jam was so yum! The French toast sticks were dangerously good (crispy on the outside, soft and custard inside). The strawberry matcha was unique, and the bloody Marys had just the right kick. The atmosphere is relaxed but elevated -- perfect for a weekend brunch with friends or family. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Thanks again, Matt, for making our experience even better. His positive energy and great smile made us feel right at home! You're a true highlight of Rustic Root!

Yelp
Attractive restaurant, well decorated and easy to find with parking on the back of the establishment. We got seated immediately (we had reservations) and they were very kind to open up an umbrella so we had shade. Our server seemed she wanted to be anywhere but there. Barely spoke above a conversation tone so it was difficult to hear anything she was saying. We asked for white wine recommendations and everyone of them was not even listed on the wine menu, we were confused. Apparently she was listing wines from another restaurant she works at. The food was average, not great, not horrible, it was passable. Not raving about it. The restaurant manager was very attentive and stopped by our table a couple of times to check on us. I'm thinking this is not a restaurant I'd return to knowing there are so many that hit the mark in Solana Beach.

Yelp
Architecturally the restaurant is beautiful , we came in for dinner around 5pm on a friday , early enough for me to look at how this place was built before it got busy , the Bar area is really nice and inviting. For our dinner I ordered the New England steak tips dinner and my wife ordered the Roasted Atlantic Salmon dinner. We both agreed our dinners were great! the presentation and taste was A+ We will most certainly come back for the food, my only minus for this place is the seating is a little tight for my taste, however don't let that deter you, they have great tasting food and drinks

Yelp
My lovely wife and I had dinner at Rusted Root last night after attempting to walk into Valle restaurant with no success. Once we arrived on the scene, the hostess and manager were very helpful. Even though the restaurant was that full capacity, the manager recognize my wife and I and immediately found us a seat. As usual, the food was magnificent. Service was top-notch. Drinks and atmosphere was excellent. The only problem I have with Rustic Root is they do not have an inside bathroom. With that said they have a total of three upscale bathrooms on the outside of the restaurant. If I had the rate the restaurant as a whole, I would give it a 8 out of 10 simply because the restrooms are not located inside of the restaurant. I would highly recommend Rustic Root to anyone.

Yelp
Rustic Root has a catchy name. Table for two and was told by the host there was seating. She came back to the podium and requested we give our phone number. We questioned her and she mentioned the restaurant wanted the phone number so they can text diners of specials and other offers. Didn't especially like to get pressured on the spot to give your phone when we actually did not. Ambiance was nice but music level was a bit loud. Food was mediocre. Smash burger was well seasoned, came with pickles but bun was soggy. Salad was over dressed and highly recommend dressing on the side. Parmesan fries were crispy and good. Ketchup was provided when requested from the server. Strawberry Matcha Latte was good. Ice tea came with free refills. Our servers attention was not focused when requested tea refill and ketchup that took longer to receive. When we got our drinks, the server slammed it on the table. Maybe the server had a bad day?

Yelp
Came here with friends for dinner. The food was delicious and the wait staff were attentive. We hit the end of happy hour. The acoustics are great for conversation and the atmosphere was friendly. We were celebrating a friends birthday and the personalized card was a lovely touch.

Yelp
This review is for the Solana Beach location. The happy hour scene here is fantastic. It doesn't hurt that, on Wednesdays through Fridays, happy is between 5 and 7 p.m. I mean, those are great hours. Good luck finding a spot at the bar (and the bar is huge and wraps from the inside to the outside). But it is very much worth trying to snag a spot. The happy hour food portions are, like most places, on the smallish side, but they are ample and not tiny. Everything we had was excellent. The Idaho Parmesan Fries are superb. Get those, for sure. I could have eaten 50 of these fries. The Mini Maryland Style Crab Cakes are very nice. The Wagyu Meatballs (you get three good-sized meatballs, served over garlic mashed potatoes) are also a winner. I wanted to lick the plate to get all of the mashed potatoes I could. The drinks are also very good. For those interested in mocktails, the Side Porch Shrub, made with blackberries, is excellent. It is very fruity and delicious. I am not normally a mocktail guy but I would absolutely order this drink. I almost never order a bar's own cocktail creations but I tried two of their "Signature" cocktails here: the Dirty Cola (Gentleman Jack, Coke, vanilla, and oat milk--yes, oat milk) and a spicy margarita (I can't recall the exact drink name). The Dirty Cola was fine but, honestly, a little strange with the oat milk. The margarita was very spicy and delicious, if you like spicy margaritas. The bar and restaurant itself are very attractive. The design is super cool and there is lot of wood and great lighting. It's a gorgeous, lively place and based on what I tried so far, I would gladly return for happy hour or dinner.

Yelp
Husband and I went for an early dinner, around 5:30, to try the place out. Hostess asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't....and then told us they were booked up. We could eat at the bar. The entire place had empty tables throughout that never filled up. Next thought is, they have a staffing problem? We ended up at the bar..which was fine. Had some nice cocktails..Porch Swing was delicious. Shared a great Caesar salad and the Rustic Fried Chicken. We liked both dishes as standard American fare...we'd order again. But I have to question how this newer restaurant missed an opportunity to have a couple sit at a table to have a complete dining experience, when they could have turned that table in an hour and had two people that would have come back and brought friends. Short sighted management? Poor planning for staff? We saw staff that were not overwhelmed on any level..all nice..bartenders with time to chat...so this could have been a great night out...but rather we get a bit short changed. Husbands birthday. Too bad.

Yelp
Great experience, friendly service, good ambiance, and great food for the price. Our bartender Ian was awesome. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
We busted Rustic root a couple weeks ago for my friend's birthday brunch. When we arrived we were greeted by the GM who was so friendly we told her it was our friend birthday and she asked if we had a picture of her because she wanted to do a little something special. I text her a picture and to our surprise she printed edible pictures and put them on top of our espresso martini's! We were so surprised that she went out of her way to make our friend's birthday so special. We loved all the choices we had to choose from for brunch from crab cake Benedict to chocolate pancakes! Everything we ordered was delicious. Our food came out quickly and our server was amazing. The cocktails were also good and everything was reasonably priced. Look forward to coming back for happy hour!

Yelp
As always, incredible food and service. Reservation was ready for our party of seven and everyone was delighted with their meal from the beverages, juicy bread and deviled eggs to the entrees and brown butter cake

Yelp
We had been here for brunch recently and absolutely loved it so brought our friends over for dinner for a birthday. We waited for at-least 20 minutes before having to flag someone down to even get us water. I tried to ask the server for drinks recommendation and his answer was curt and a 'pick what you like based on the descriptions'. It was all down hill from there. We waited a long time for any kind of service. The salmon smelled off and the corn bread was charred. When we mentioned this to our server, he said that is what the dishes are supposed to be like and brought us our check. I really hope it was just a bad day for the server and this is not the norm. I only have pics from the brunch that we loved!

Yelp
My daughter ordered the "silver dollar pancakes" off of the kids menu. What was the served appeared to be reheated pancake bites. The berries from her side of fruit were also spoiled. Our waitress offered to replace the spoiled fruit, which we decline. She mentioned she would bring up the misleading menu to her manager. We were very disappointed with our experience here.

Yelp
Rustic root in solana beach is one of our absolute go-to restaurants when we need a guaranteed good meal in a super fun environment. The food is consistently delicious. We love the fried chicken and lobster papperdelle. The buttermilk biscuit is to die for! The bar has got a great vibe. Great bartenders and great drinks. Definitely a strong recommendation as a North county destination.

Yelp
Went here with a small group recently and probably wouldn't go back. There was nothing that wowed us. There was a free parking garage next to the restaurant which was nice and convenient. I had the lobster roll which was recommended by the server. It was one of the blandest lobster rolls I've had and there was not a good bread to lobster ratio. It was also over $30, and you had to pay extra $3 for fries. Absolutely not worth it. Another person in our party ordered the pancakes and she said they weren't anything special. The service was also a bit slow, and we had to wait a long time for them to take our order, bring our drinks, bring our food, bring our checks. They were very friendly so that was nice. Overall i just don't think it was worth the visit for us.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed the new hot spot in Solana Beach. Love the atmosphere and the food is good too. My favorite being the biscuits and the prime rib. We have yet to try the chicken pot pie because they always seem to be out. Best to make a reservation or get there as soon as they open to snag a bar seat.

Yelp
Ordered at the bar during happy hour. Love Rob's energy; very attentive and offered great suggestions. I'm especially a fan of the lover's flannel cocktail, but you can hardly taste the alcohol, so they sneak up on you. I had the meatballs, half Caesar salad, and the smash burger. Everything was pretty decently priced and tasted fantastic. I especially appreciated the noticeable cleanliness of the space and the friendliness of the staff.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was impeccable, and the ambiance was great for a cozy fall evening. We went on a Thursday night around 6, got sat immediately, live music began, our food came out quickly and hot, and the staff was so friendly, genuine, and attentive. I ordered the chicken pot pie and my husband got the spicy chicken sandwich - both great! Folks in other reviews were complaining of the size of the pot pie... and I'm just curious the size of the pot pies they normally eat?? This seems like pretty standard size... It's hearty and flavorful here, and absolutely filling! Highly recommend :)

Yelp
Very cool place! Our friend in SB turned us onto their HH and it was a very fun experience. Love the decor, especially the light fixtures! Glass styles for the coffee drinks were so beautiful, can't wait to come for brunch next time to enjoy one! Gets busy, so go early to get a bar seat!

Yelp
Good- service and staff are amazing people. Drinks are beautiful and tasty. Biscuit appetizer is warm, fluffy and butter is out of this world. Mac n cheese was flavorful. Desserts were delicious. The ambiance is fun, love the decor inside Bad- Food portions underwhelming for dinner plates. Chicken pot pie with biscuit on top was hard to break through and it was smaller than expected. Fried Chicken seemed undercooked so sent it back and got a new one. The butternut squash side was a bit too runny.

Yelp
This definitely was a cute location! The staff were all friendly and accommodating. We had the bubbles and berries which was a choice of champagne, and came with fruit, 3 juices and 3 purees. Super fun idea, and enjoyed created new flavors with the juices and purees! I had the blueberry pancakes and it was kinda disappointing as the compote was very overwhelming and hardly could taste the bourbon blend and was rather sweeter than I would have liked. I ended up scraping most of it off as it gradually became too much. Another friend also commented on how her Benedict was overpowered by mustard making it not as appealing. Overall, I may try this spot again, if not the food at least the drinks.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place. Made a reservation on open table and stated we were celebrating a birthday. Checked in under our reservation when we arrived. We wanted to surprise our friend for her birthday with a little dessert. We were seated promptly, it was all downhill from there. Our table backed the swinging kitchen door which slammed against the back of the booth every time the employees went in/out the kitchen. Drinks were ok, food was overpriced. Several people kept coming to try to take our plates AWAY early on while we were still eating, interrupting our conversation several times. Manager came to check on us and I told him there was a dessert on our reservation. He said he would take care of it. Waitress seemed like she was preoccupied. When finally did come back we had to ask for more water. We ordered more drinks and she finally came back again empty handed and asked if we needed anything else. At this point we were almost finished with our meal, so we just said no. Then she said, oh did you order a drink? Had to ask again for the birthday dessert. (Took away from the birthday surprise for our friend) Then was told they were all out. I said never mind. She then came back with an ice cream cart. It was just all an unorganized mess. What was supposed to be a fun surprise for our friend ended up being a little stressful. To top it off, I received a notification from open table saying our reservation was canceled an hour AFTER we left. Will be trying the several new restaurants in SB next time. Will not be returning to RR
