On a cold winter morning, I caught up with a friend from college over brunch at Rustico Restaurant in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington. We were seated at a booth in the back of the restaurant. Before choosing a beer on tap, it was nice to be able to try the ones I was interested in - Commonwealth: Venom fruited sour ale, Black Project: Thin Thread fruited sour ale, and Lost Boy: Gingerbread hard cider. Among the three, I liked the Commonwealth: Venom fruited sour, which had a nice balance of fruitiness, sweetness, and tartness.
We shared a Wild Mushroom Bruschetta, which consisted of grilled rustic bread, topped with creamy wild mushrooms. It was delicious.
My friend had the Crispy Chicken and Waffles, which consisted of crispy waffle topped with fried chicken and powdered sugar. It was served with Mike's Hot Honey and Maple Syrup on the side. She thought it was alright. She felt that the waffle was a bit doughy.
I had the Winter Harvest Salad, which consisted of mixed greens, roasted brussels sprouts, cranberries, roasted squash, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds tossed in balsamic vinaigrette and topped with grated pecorino. It was alright. I regret not getting something warm like the Eggs Benedict but I'll be back to try their other offerings.
Our server left after serving us and Brayan took over to provide takeout boxes and separate checks.
