Rustique

"A wind of audacity has swept through Maxime Laurenson’s restaurant. Precise, legible dishes reveal each ingredient simply, with a firm focus on vegetables and a steadfast commitment to locally sourced produce. The single set menu (no choice) features a dozen or so courses, each of which stars the best of a region that spans Auvergne to the Alps. The interior is clearly inspired by nature (stone, wood, colour, plants) and the vibe is friendly. A down-to-earth establishment that is a favourite with Lyon’s foodies." - Michelin Inspector

The most expensive meal I've had. Also the best meal I've had. Worth it. Frog legs felt below the level of the other dishes to me, but everything else, including the wine pairing, blew me away. Chef is also great.

We had a wonderful time at Rustique on a Friday evening. The head chef Maxime and his team made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent. Flawless cooking and beautiful presentation with quite a few surprises during the evening. The decor is warm and comfortable with lovely indoor plants, making it feel like the plant nursery you secretly wish you had in your home. The restaurant took their wine service very seriously too. The sommelier poured one wine out of order and poured a fresh glass later on when it was correctly paired. Such attention to detail must be commended. I only hope the earlier glass of wine didn’t go to waste. We highly recommend visiting.

The chef catered to our last minute needs brilliantly. Remarkable ! So far this is the first time we’ve repeated our experience in a one star Michelin restaurant. It definitely won’t be the last.

A truly great and memorable dining experience. Loved the intimate but unpretentious atmosphere while being able to converse with the chef himself. Each dish was so well thought out. We felt valued as diners and I have much respect for how the restaurant is operated. Highly recommended!

Wow, this was our best food experience during our three weeks in France where we travelled to different cities and ate different restaurants every day, including multiple Michelin-starred restaurants. We went for dinner, and ordered one set menu each with one wine/drink pairing. We were seated in front of the kitchen so we had front row seats to the chef as he prepared dinner for everyone in the restaurant. (Best seats in the house!) From the first dish of lentil chips and lentil dip/soup, I knew it was going to be good. The lentil soup was sooo flavorful and rich, and the chips had a really lentilly flavor too but in a good way and was a great balance to the creamy lentil soup. Similarly, the taste of all the other dishes had such pure flavors that were combined artfully to create a delightful tasting experience. I loved that all the dishes had variations in textures. And they were all beautifully presented and portioned just nice. There was a great consistency across all the courses. All of them presented something new and showcased how the chef could make this new idea enjoyable to eat. Even the wine pairing was very well thought-out - the waiter explained how each pairing was chosen to complement the dish, and there were some interesting choices such as sake. The staff were so personable as well and made us feel welcome though we didn’t speak French and are tourists. The chef even personally came out from the kitchen to help us open our knives when we were confused about how they worked 🤣 Make a reservation and come here!! For 75 euros for a 10 course dinner, this was such a steal! I hope I can come back to Lyon to visit Rustique again.

Outstanding restaurant! All the dishes were delicious and complex in flavour. They do not just look good but actually taste great. Nice winelist with local wines from small organic/natural wineries. The only point that is not on the top level is the atmosphere/design of the room.

The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, I liked the one person seat that is just in front of the kitchen, it lets you see how the chef’s work. The food was great, I liked the flavour combination and the plating. The service was also great. Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5

Wow what an evening and lovely experience! We try to visit at least one Michelin restaurant on every one of our trips and this restaurant comes out at the top of our list. The food was innovative and delicious - with every course bringing a new surprise and experience. The menu focused on traditional foods of Lyon, and we enjoyed a variety of dishes to include catfish, frog legs, cod roe, crayfish, beets, veal sweetbread, duck, and some beautiful desserts. The wine pairing was perfect, and both the food and wine were just the right amount – not leaving us too full or overwhelmed. The owners, Helene and Maxime, served us throughout the evening, thus making it even more special. We greatly enjoyed our experience and highly recommend booking a table at Rustique for your next visit to Lyon.
